I am writing to express my profound disappointment and "disgust" regarding the treatment I received today. I have been a loyal Bursaw customer for 40 years, but after my experience this morning, I am questioning that loyalty. I received a cold email stating that my scheduled oil delivery would not be made. The reason given was that your drivers might "pull a muscle" pulling a hose through the snow to reach my tank. Following this, I spoke with a manager whose unconcerned tone during our call was frankly appalling. I am 80 years old. At my age, I am physically unable to shovel a path to the tank myself, and finding immediate help for snow removal is nearly impossible. I have relied on your service for four decades, and I never imagined that Bursaw would be so completely unconcerned with the well-being of their elderly customers during the winter. To be told that a delivery cannot be made to an 80-year-old customer because of the risk of a pulled muscle--while leaving me without a clear plan for heat--is unacceptable. We have been using Bursaw for about 30 years. There are two sorts of perfection that you can experience with your HVAC/heating oil/propane provider. #1: is absolute perfection where nothing ever goes wrong with your decades-in-the-aging AC and heating system. What this really constitutes is living on a beach in Maui. #2: is where your provider treats you like family, never makes lame excuses, and drops everything to take care of you. Maui is pretty nice, but I'll take Bursaw any day. We love this company and Jeff Bursaw is a wonderful human being. I just noticed that somebody posted a horrible picture that shows up on Google when you search for "Bursaw". It says "incompetent" - nothing could be further from the truth. I believe I'm correct in saying, Mary handles new applications, and she was wonderful. She was able to schedule the delivery immediately, which happened an hour & a half later!! Paul delivered the propane, was very kind, professional, and went above & beyond his duties by checking on the status of certain things inside the house. Again, I believe I'm correct in saying, Dana runs the propane division, and he was GREAT! He was very patient, understanding, knowledgeable, and extremely professional. Beware! Bursaw furnace service will steal your money. They came out SIX times in a month, didn't fix anything, literally walked away from the job, then had the audacity to charge me $1,000. The technicians are clueless and one, Josh, said the psi gauge was faulty while another said it worked fine. Josh wanted to charge me $200+ to replace the perfectly working gauge. Bursaw will show up talking on their phone and will ignore you while heading to the furnace. They will leave without notifying you if anything was fixed (I looked out the window and saw their van was gone and the furnace wasn't fixed...no heat). The head of service, Dana, will leave your family and kids without heat while stammering off like a child because he can't fix the problem. Definitely use Bursaw if you want incompetent, untrained people who will turn your world into a nightmare, then charge you 1k+. It's insane that this place is still in business. read more

Zero stars. I feel like these people are still in training, and they will just start replacing parts of your furnace just to test if that was the problem, but, hey, they will charge you full price for those parts that didn't need to be replaced and were working perfectly fine. Their training took a bunch of visits, and they weren't able to figure out what was wrong!! If you want to hire them, make sure you have a heated blanket and space heaters for a few weeks and tons of money to waste. read more

Bursaw gas is right on 119 in Acton, not far from the Concord Rotary. They have pretty cheap gas prices, especially for the high test. And they are full serve. 10 cents discount for cash. Since my new vehicle requires high test, I've been frequenting this station if I'm in the area. Lines can get long, and the Acton police won't allow the line to back up on to the road. I'm never driving through there during rush hour so this policy doesn't affect me. read more

If I could choose zero stars, I would. Yelp requires at least one star. We had Bursaw out to do annual maintenance on our heating and cooling system in June of 2021. Prior to them arriving, the system was working fine. While the tech was here, he told us he had to install a new fuel pump because he couldn't get the existing one to work, and he needed to run a combustion test. We were skeptical about this. The system had been working fine all winter and much of the spring. Now all of a sudden the fuel pump wasn't working? The tech maintained that the fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced, so we went along with it. The tech ran the combustion test and was able to get the heat to work. He left after this. That night, we discovered that the heat would not turn off, and the A/C would not turn on. No matter what we tried - turn the thermostats off, turn off the fan for the overall HVAC - the heat would not turn off. So on a 80 degree day in June, we had heat running non-stop all through the night. We called Bursaw and they sent the same tech back to fix the issue. He came back and told us that there was something wrong with the control panel. He replaced a part on the control panel and got the A/C to work. He left after this. That night, we discovered that the A/C would not turn off. Again, no matter what we tried, we could not get the A/C to turn off, and we could not get the heat to turn on. So we called Bursaw YET again. This time they sent a different tech to address the issue. The new tech came in and fixed the problem within about 30 minutes. He noted that the first tech was "new" and that he didn't know what he was doing. The new tech told us that the problem was with the wiring, and that we probably never needed a new fuel pump to begin with. This new tech told us that he would work with management to waive the charges for the fuel pump and associated labor. He also noted that they would not charge us for the repeat service visits. We received an invoice for the full amount for all of the original labor (including the fuel pump) after the third service visit. This was a surprise to us, as the second service tech had told us some of the fees would be waived. So we called Bursaw to discuss the charges. First we talked with a customer service rep. We explained to him the situation. He asked to speak with his manager, then called us back. The customer service rep said that they would waive the fees, but only if we had another tech back out to put the OLD fuel pump back on our system. [Question: if the OLD fuel pump had truly failed and was not functional, why would Bursaw still have it in their possession? Also, there was no way we were inviting another Bursaw tech into our home to mess something up yet AGAIN.] We raised the question: how would we know that it was OUR old fuel pump? The customer service rep said he did not know. We asked to speak with the manager. Jeff Bursaw (the owner) got on the phone. He immediately accused us of trying to get a free fuel pump out of him. He claimed that it is standard operating procedure for his techs to hold on to old (supposedly failed) fuel pumps for several weeks, in case "people like us" try to get a free fuel pump out of him. He said that it would only be fair for us to take back our old fuel pump in order to get the fees waived. He was extremely rude and would not even allow us to ask questions. He told us to find a new oil company, that he didn't have time to deal with "people like us." Then he hung up on us. We tried to call back. The operator put Jeff back on the line. We reiterated that our original reason for calling was to discuss and confirm the waiving of original charges, as we were told by the tech. And we needed to know what we still owed Bursaw. He continued his accusatory tone, finally told us that we would only be charged for the annual tune-up visit, and instructed us not to pay anything until we receive a new invoice. We will NEVER use Bursaw Gas and Oil again. Consumer beware. read more

Are you with another propane provider? If so, then you're on the receiving end of a bad deal. I've been with another local propane provider for the last eight years and have been receiving their shaft on propane delivery pricing all this time, especially in the middle of winter. I gave Bursaw a call and thought I would have to argue to *buy* the underground tank outright rather than lease as all other providers require. Much to my surprise, Bursaw only *sells* storage tanks, does not lease, and thus I can buy propane from any service provider. Their business model is disruptive to the industry and this is reason enough to send your business their way. Thankfully, however, Bursaw currently has the lowest propane price of all other alternatives explored, without the gimmicks, and thus deserves your business for fiscal responsibility and honest business practices, not just philosophical reasons. I just had them install a 1000g underground tank and I couldn't be happier with their service, professionalism, and lack of need for purchasing hemorrhoidal relief cream on a regular basis! We could not be more thrilled with Bursaw's entire team. We recently closed and moved into a brand new home built in Ayer. We quickly ran out of propane, and being newbies to owning propane tanks to heat a home, we weren't even sure when we should start service, assuming we'd be okay the first week in the home. Low and behold, we ran out of propane after being in the home for 5 days! We had no hot water to speak of, with 4 of us living in the home at the time, including a little one. With one call to Bursaw, they were at the house in under an hour. Not only did they fill the tanks, but Dana also stopped by to help figure out why the water heater wasn't responding to the newly filled tanks. Went to get gas today and the owner was the most rude, hateful man I have come across! They offer services so I asked the guy to put washer fluid in my car. He did something when he put the fluid in and broke a part of my car. He even was the one who told me. I asked to speak to the owner or manager and when the man finally came out he was yelling at me. He told me my car is a piece of junk and that it was probably already broken and that I am a liar and was just trying to sue him to get my junk car fixed! Even when the guy told him what happened he still kept talking to me in a rude way. I will NEVER go there again! He is the most rude, unprofessional man. How can one be a fan of a gas station? A question for philosophers of the ages or answered by the simple exclamation "they pump your gas for you!!!!! Wooo!" I have a hard time putting into words how magical this is for me. Comparable to unicorns magical. Anyways, mild hyperbole aside Bursaws is an awesome gas station. Full service sun, snow, rain, sleet or hail. The attendants are friendly and quick on the triggers, so often the line down the lot doesn't take nearly as long as you think. Also they have a cash price for their fuel sales which is an excellent way to save money. The one negative, as hinted to above, is this place is no secret so there can be a queue if you hit it at the wrong time, but given all the positives it's worth the wait. P.S. closed on Sundays and most major holidays. Prepare accordingly. read more

So I have been using them for as my regular oil company since I bought my house and have never had any issues with them. I am writing this review because my furnace failed the other night and I woke up at 4 AM with my house at 45 degrees. I managed to get the furnace to restart and the heat starting going back to normal. A few hours later it failed again. So I decided to call them for obvious reasons. Of course this all happens on a Saturday so its an emergency call which is a ton of money per hour. Once the guy got to my house he couldn't figure out what was wrong at first and I was getting concerned. After a little more than 2 hours he got it working again. He then proceeded to tell me that what he did to make it work should have only taken him 20 minutes so even though he was there for a couple hours he was only going to charge me for 1 hour. Let me be abundantly clear. RUN AWAY FROM THESES GUYS AS FAST AS YOU CAN. DO NOT USE THEM FOR OIL SERVICE. Do not pay attention to their overall rating, as one is for gas service (not oil delivery) and two are from 2-3 years ago. Pay attention to this review and Doc L's review. Here's the deal. Oil is a commodity, everyone pretty much sells it at the same price. The only thing that and oil dealer can compete on is service. And Bursaw is a service nightmare. They were our oil provider for 2 years. When we first started out with them at the end of 2010, it was extremely difficult to ever get the service manager to call back. He was always out of the office, it took weeks at times to get incorrect bills clarified or our annual service scheduled. They finally got rid of that service manager, and it got a bit better, for a while. In 2011, they "serviced" our heating system as part of annual maintenance, but then when our heating system failed, on a Sunday, we found out that they didn't actually conduct the service correctly. To their defense they did eat the cost of fixing the problem, but here's the thing. If you are going to show up to do the work, then actually do the work. Don't fake it and leave people in jeopardy of not having a working heating system. Fast-forward to the beginning of 2012. The opted to switch our account from automatic delivery to will call. Basically we weren't using enough oil. Hmm. The reason I want automatic delivery is so I don't have to monitor it. But I put up with this because I didn't feel like switching companies. So now in December 2012, I call to tell them my tank is low. They then proceed to tell that they closed my account because I didn't use enough oil. Now they weren't actually going to call me and tell me that of course. They weren't going to tell me that they didn't want my business. They were going to avoid this all together. If they had the decency to call and tell me that my business wasn't profitable, then perhaps I would have overlooked their crappy service in the past and moved on. But no. The person I spoke with told me that my house was too far from their office. When I told him that I live exactly 10 minutes from his office, he didn't know what to say, caught in a lie of dishonest disregard for a former customer. Even that pathetic liar was stuck without a reasonable response. But they made it very clear they didn't want to take my money. So I'm taking it elsewhere. Again, the only thing that separates these guys from another oil company is how they care for their customers. And BURSAW DOESNT CARE! So if you read nothing else, here read all the stuff in caps. FIND ANOTHER OIL DEALER, ANYONE AT ALL - JUST NOT THESE GUYS. UGH I apparently have to give them at least a star. If there were negative stars I'd pick that. read more

I used this oil company for 7 years. As far as delivering oil I would say they were ok. As far as service is concerned I never had the same repairman come to my house over the corse of this time. It seems like they have a high turnover rate. During their last yearly boiler maintenance they shut down my boiler due to concerns and said they would return in 2 days to complete the repair because they didn't have the parts on their truck. So I dealt without having hot water for 2 days. When my appointment time came they never showed up. I called them to see what was going on and they said they had left me a message but, since I didn't return their call "they figured it wasn't worth returning to my house." At this point I was dumb enough to tell them I would pay for the overtime if they would just come and fix my boiler but they refused and said I would have to wait until Monday! (for a total of 5 days without hot water). Please keep in mind I have 3 children under the age of 5. This is totally obscene. I had to fix the problem myself in order to have hot water! This was absolutely obscene that they would not return to my house to complete the repair that they started!!! I will never purchase another drop of oil or service from them again! I would advise that no one else trust these charlatan's! read more

Highly unprofessional. We've used them for a few years now, but yesterday the delivery guy found the pool fence closed so he couldn't get to the delivery spout. Instead of letting us know to clear the snow/ice behind the fence, he tried to force it open and basically broke the gate (which is barely 2 years old). I then get a call from the office to let me know he couldn't get in without any mention of him trying to force the gate open. When I go to clear the area behind the gate I notice that the gate is basically dragging on the ground, latch broken all the wood screws popping off. I call them and the the driver basically lies and claims the gate was already broken. The owner then basically refuses to deliver oil and closes our account. My advice to anyone seeking an oil supplier - stay away from these guys. Owner down - not a very professional organization. If I could give them negative stars I would. read more

To Dr. L. I would like to clear up some of your lies, because its bothering me. I was the technican who came to your house in Littleton, MA in 2012 for a normal boiler cleaning. Although your boiler was anything but normal. The last cleaning you had was four years prior. The appointment you made to perform a yearly maintance was not a sufficiant amount of time because your boiler was in such bad shape. Due to the condition of your system, I had to shut it down for the night. Reasons for shutting your heating system down: 1. system was venting into the basement 2. The burner retention head had fallen into the fire chamber. 3. Fire chamber was in need of replacement and had fallen apart. 4. boiler was almost plugged 5. You installed your own oil filter and oil line and both where not up to code. I made a list of the repairs that the system needed to operate safely and you made an emergencey appointment for the next day. Its funny you don't remember me calling you five times from 7:45am till 4:30pm and I even went as far as showing up to your house at the pre arranged time. Even though there was no down payment of half the quoted price. Yet you never showed up nor did you call me back unill 630pm. I talked to you for 30 min on the phone twice and even made an attempt to call the owner . If you where so worried about your kids you should of never touched your heating equipment and showed up for the emergency appointment the next day. To this day I dont understand what you where thinking because I informed you that if I didnt make the system safe to operate and up to code that the Fire Department would make sure another company did. I no longer work at bursaw but still have family and friends who use them every year and have no problems. I would even go back to work for them because there a small family run oil company that goes out of there way to help people. read more

We've had Bursaw Oil for over 4 years and have had great service and customer care. Every now and then, I look at the oil gauge a little late and these guys have turned on a dime to get to me - longest wait from call to service was 6 hours - and that was after I told tem we had 20 gallons left. They offer a helpful payment plan (which I'd assume most places do), but they helped us get in on it to make sure the winter crunch didn't wallop us. They've serviced our furnace once and give it a yearly once over every year. Great stuff read more

Billed for corrected service. We had a strong oil smell in the house. The technician arrived and stated the wrong part was used in their annual service and replaced it and cleaned out the excess. They inadvertently left the debris from the cleaning and not being familiar with the system left it in a setting that caused the furnace to go out. While we were not charged they did send us a bill for almost $200 to fix their error. Moved on. read more

We began using Bursaw for our oil and furnace/heating servicing when we moved into our home in May '14. Our draw was their offering of Biodiesel fuel and their proximity to our residence. I called them in early October '14 to do an inspection of our oil tank and furnace as well as a furnace cleaning. Cheryl was very prompt in scheduling an appointment for the service expert, Dana, to come out. In fact, at first she indicated they were completely booked for several weeks, but managed to insert us in for the following week. This was very much appreciated. Upon inspection of the oil tank, we were informed that our oil tank was not up to code (although a pre-closing inspection by a separate oil company of the seller's choice declared it was - please reference my separate post on that company). In addition to the tank being over 30 years old, the tank was precariously perched on 36" legs on top of broken cinder blocks. There were also visible drips of oil on the sides and bottom of tanks. Given the risk of a collapsing tank or larger leak, we decided to have Bursaw install a new tank. Cheryl provided a detailed quote and made it clear exactly what was included, such as pulling permits, brand of tank, connections, and access required to the installation site. As I had many questions on this, she was very patient in addressing my concerns and making sure I was satisfied with the terms of the quote. She scheduled installation for a weekday in December at 9 AM, advising the arrival time and expectations on how long the job would take ('majority of one day'). Dana and Chris, two of Bursaw's service engineers, arrived at 9:20 AM and immediately began work. They were clean and professional in their work, and answered all of my questions in a very courteous manner. To ensure no leaking oil from the old tank to be removed, they laid down throw cloths and kept the basement very clean from start to finish. They were able to transfer the majority of the 1/8 tank of oil volume remaining from the old to the new tank, which was much appreciated. Dana had also previously cleaned our furnace, and I must say I am extremely impressed with his work and attention to detail. Dana and Chris also took care of scheduling us for an oil delivery the following day. They completed the work ahead of schedule, and left no trace of garbage, parts, or materials behind. Overall, I would highly recommend Bursaw for your oil needs based on my experience with them. read more
