I have visited this place for the 2nd time and both times my experience has been below average. We ordered paneer makhani and chicken tikka masala. The food was bland and spiceless. We had to add a lot of seasoning to even make it edible. The naan (bread)was raw (see pics). You will get better chicken tikka masala at a Food Court. Went to Rasoi for the first time and had a great time. The food is great - we got papadam, the mixed tandoori plate and a few cocktails- everything was great. The service was friendly and attentive. For dinner we got lamb korma, lamb vindaloo, tandoori chicken, Bhindi masala, butter naan and paratha. Everything tasted great. But I have to say that I was surprised that the Bhindi masala was wet, it isn't supposed to be. Also the paratha pretty much looked and tasted like the naan. Other than those two minor things the food was good. At the end it took a while to get our check and then get the credit card back - I think the crowd got bigger and the number of waiters wasn't enough. The lounge area is great, but the main dining area seating is a little shabby- like a taqueria or something. However, good enough to want to go back. Good enough for 4 stars. read more

Rasoi is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I ordered the chicken tikka masala with the rice pulao and the garlic naan. Every bite was literally amazing. The sauce that comes with the plate is to die for. I put it on top of the rice and I couldn't stop eating it. The lamb chops was amazing as well. The way they cook it is incredible. Little crispy on the outer ends, which adds an amazing touch. Every single bite was satisfying!! Garlic naan was delicious and had to get seconds. The food is amazing and the service is just as! Our waiter, Sujan, is an awesome person who really cares about the customer's experience. Lastly, the environment at Rasoi is such a vibe. I've been here a couple of times, and both times my experience was underwhelming. I would have liked to give a better review, but sadly it was disappointing on both visits. The first time we visited for a birthday, we were seated in an area with a weird smell. The staff said that it was coming from some plumbing issue or things that were outside the control. The food itself was fine (I've had much better in the Bay Area). I still I decided to give it a second shot. My second experience was rather flat as well. The food was rather bland and didn't really come out hot. Definitely not worth the price. Also the host and staff were quite aloof and didn't really give us a welcome feel. Whenever I hang out with my friend, we always choose a new place for dinner. This time we decided to try Rasoi because it's close to my work, and we love Indian food! We ordered the chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and naan. These are our go-to dishes, and they were delicious here! I will agree with another reviewer who said that the portion sizes are a little small for the price. The food was very flavorful, though. And the service was excellent! Ambiance: looks modern with the blue lights accenting the place. I also appreciate the authentic pictures on the walls and the giant glass to show the kitchen in the back of the restaurant. Food: I had the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. A very nice man (maybe the cook?) brought out my food. The first taste I had, I was thoroughly DISAPPOINTED. With 4.5 stars, I expected complex aromatic flavors and spices, but it fell FLAT entirely. I wanted MORE out of this dish, but it didn't deliver. It's quite frustrating if you ask me. It was just MISSING something!! And it made me sad as I was eating it. I was chasing the flavors with every bite. That is why I say that it is amongst the worse Indian restaurants I've ever had. This is one of my favorite spot in Burlingame! I love the food here and also the atmosphere. If you are a first timer I would highly recommend to try out their chicken tikka masala, and also their tandoori chicken. If you like cars the owner is actually a big car fan, lot of local exotic cars owner come here and show their cars too. This is a great place to hang out, great food and great people! "As good as it gets" is a rare attribute. The wife and I both agreed that this place qualifies, however. Chicken tikka and aloo gobhi were both prepared and spiced better than we have had at any other Indian restaurant, among the scores we have visited, on both coasts and abroad. my husband and I were not very familiar with Indian food, but, I really wanted someth different. It was awesome!!! So beautiful inside, wonderful and warm service! I had looked at pictures and menu descriptions and we made our choices. Started with assorted appetizer, for naan we had the garlic naan, split salad, then chicken tikki Marsala, tandoori prawns and side of rice. We loved it all! Can't wait to go back. 3.5 stars, rounding up. Came here on a Saturday night, we were quickly shown to a table. We got a couple of old fashioneds, a plate of chicken pakora and the lamb seekh kebab to start. I'd rate the chicken pakora 3 stars, but the seekh kebab was a solid 4.5 stars - it came out a sizzler, and was a melts-in-your-mouth blend of meat and spices! We got the goat cheese naan and garlic and basil naan for our bread, and the machli masala (fish masala) curry for the entrée. My date liked the goat cheese naan (definitely try it if you like cheese, also its quite filling). I felt the garlic and basil naan could have been less crispy (its a naan, not roti!) and more garlicky and basily! The machli masala was decent, made with tilapia, but was more of a tomato-base gravy and less of the masala. Place has good food, but felt it was over priced (maybe because of the location?). It has a cool blue lighting, which I liked and a pleasant ambience. Our server was polite and courteous. Parking wasn't too difficult, and the street is lovely for a post-dinner walk :) read more

Rasoi has to be my favorite Indian restaurant in the Bay Area to eat at. I come here regularly (probably once a month) and the food and service is always consistently good. We typically order the mixed appetizer plate which comes with two samosas, veggie pakoras, and papadum. The portions are fairly small, so be prepared to share or order a second order of the appetizer. When it comes to entrees, you really can't go wrong with any of them! The Paneer Makhani and Mattar Paneer are great options to try for vegetarian dishes. I can't get enough of the yummy squishy cheese pieces. The Saag Paneer is also a great option if you don't want something as saucy. For meat dishes, I always go for the Chicken Tikka (the dry one) that comes on a steaming hot plate with freshly cooked onions and bell peppers. Trust me, just try it!!! Some other good veggie options are the Dal, Navrattan Korma, and the Paneer Korma. I love the mixed veggies, fruit, and the extra crunch from the nuts in the Navrattan Korma. The Naan is also delicious, I just wish that they would give a bigger portion of it from the beginning because I hate having to get a second order. Other than that you can't beat it. Fluffy on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, the naan here is the perfect vehicle to soak up any extra gravy from the entrees. Love love love this place!! read more

So disappointing that eating in the restaurant was not a good experience. We placed our order for the following: chicken tikka (heat 4 on a scale of 1 to 5) - it was bland and literally had no heat, not even much flavor. poori - this was just disgusting. It's supposed to be crisp and airy. Instead, it was covered in so much oil it wasn't even edible. Waitress literally could have cared less. Didn't replace it. Didn't apologize. And we still paid for it... aloo paratha - this is stuffed with potatoes and peas but ours didn't have much filling and it totally fell apart. Again, super greasy -- not properly prepared. garlic naan - too greasy again. Don't know who was doing what in the kitchen with the bread products but they all sucked last night. We asked for tamarind and chutney when we placed our order. Repeated it again when she read us back our order. Food came. No tamarind. No chutney. No one stopped to see how we were doing. 20 minutes later we had to FLAG our waitress down in order to get any follow up. Needless to say, getting tamarind and chutney 20 minutes after our food was pretty much no bueno. I normally get delivery from Rasoi and I have loved the food every time. My friend, who is Indian, treated me to dinner last night and let's just say he was beyond disappointed in both quality and presentation. So was I but since he's Indian, he is an even better gauge than me. I'm gonna call this an epic fail. Time to find an authentic and consistent Indian experience. Do Not Recommend. Bad service. Drinks - depending on the day, I love their mango lassi, hot chai (I add 2 sugars to mine), and their sauvignon blanc. Sometimes I order all 3 because it is just THAT good.
