I honestly don't understand all the glowing reviews for B Street & Vine. Our experience was disappointing from start to finish. We sat outside, and the atmosphere felt tired and uninspired. There was nothing particularly inviting or memorable about the space. We ordered the bruschetta sampler ($24), choosing the mango, salmon, mushroom with prosciutto, and tomato mozzarella varieties. Surprisingly, they all tasted almost exactly the same. Nothing tasted fresh or vibrant. The bread was especially disappointing--bland, lacking texture, and seemingly devoid of flavor. The mango wasn't sweet, the tomatoes tasted like nothing, and even the mozzarella lacked freshness and character. The wine was equally underwhelming. My husband ordered the Tempranillo and I had the Albariño. Neither was enjoyable; both tasted harsh and overly alcoholic rather than balanced or flavorful. Even the presentation missed the mark. The glassware felt dated and unattractive, which only added to the overall feeling that the restaurant is past its prime. Unfortunately, this was not a memorable meal for the right reasons. The entrée options here unfortunately are a bit more lacking, consisting primarily of paninis, salads and bowls. I opted for a Shrimp Bowl for dinner, which turned out to be quite sizable. Consisting of shrimp, lettuce, tomato, onions on a bed of warm rice, topped with ranch dressing. At first, I did not see the rice initially and thought it was disappointingly just a salad bowl. Not too sweet and everything was perfect. I'm not a fan of brie but it was perfect with the pear. My least favorite would have to be the smoked salmon. It didn't come with capers as advertised and no one told me why. Perhaps they forgot or ran out. Presentation was beautiful. The salad was just some lettuce and tomato with a little bit of vinaigrette. While not bad, just underwhelming. The smoked salmon tasted store bought, the proscuitto was unlike the bougie ones I found throughout Europe. The ricotta + pistachio barely had any ricotta on it, smeared like they were using the rest of yesterdays ingredients. I ordered when they first opened up on Saturday for lunch..so maybe that's why everything looks old...unfresh..and sad. Staff were kind though. Wish I did myself a service and investigated the contents of the box before taking it back..I trusted y'all. + apple/brie was good + salmon was fine, overly salty though. Yikes! As a long time Bay Area native, I have been to a majority of the restaurants in downtown San Mateo. This one always hits the spot. I love meeting friends here for bruschetta of all kinds. My favorite is the Brie, apples and candied pecans. So so yummy! Service is always fast and efficient and I love their back patio.
