One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. We loved the chili shrimp and chicken Korma.

Loved some dishes, didn't like some others. That's typically my experience with most restaurants, so I won't dock the restaurant any stars for the dishes I don't like when some are really fantastic. I've been reordering the dishes I love from here several times. Overall, I definitely recommend Rasoi. I've done pick-up and delivery, and both have been super easy and good experiences. Oh, I also love that their spice levels seem to be accurate. As someone who loves a true "medium" spice, I find that many times dishes at other restaurants will be either too mild or too spicy, the levels here were perfect. My boyfriend loves spicy and he also felt the spicy levels were perfect. So much respect on that front. 1) plain dosa - very bland. don't recommend. 2) jackfruit dosa lunch - I don't know what to say about this because at the time, I really didn't know much about jackfruit. Now I'm seeing it everywhere on so many different restaurant menus. I didn't enjoy this, but I think that's because I wasn't in the mood for it at the time and didn't really know what to expect. I don't really know how to describe the taste either because I got this several weeks ago, but I know my Indian mother would like the jackfruit mixture - the best I can say is that the taste is similar to an upit / upma but just applied to jackfruit and mixed veggies. I again thought the dosa batter itself was very bland. 3) saag paneer - this was delicious and I will definitely be reordering. I've had saag paneer at many, many different restaurants and this is in my top 2, if not the best of what I've tried so far. It's quite oily, which might contribute to it tasting so good, but the taste also reminds me of a bindi masala I had at a different restaurant. It's quite flavorful and I have found myself craving this a few times since. 4) paneer tikka - portion size is too small. I think this only came with 4 paneer slices whereas at other restaurants you typically get more. It tasted good - standard masala rub on the paneer tikka you find in most restaurants, except this comes with a side garden salad instead of the typical pepper and onions you usually find. 5) chicken mango lunch - this was ok. My boyfriend made a comment that it felt like they were trying too hard to make a fusion that it just seemed a bit off. To me it tasted a bit like my mom's chicken curry with a hint of mango. It was good and we ate it all, but not sure if we would reorder this dish. 6) gobi 65 - this was bomb. I moved to Providence recently from Boston, and you just cannot find this dish in the Boston area. I've had it here and at Jaya's, and while I like Jaya's dosas way better, I think Rasoi's gobi 65 is slightly better in taste. 7) gobi manchurian - this was also delicious, but I prefer the taste of the gobi 65. This one has a bit more of the sweet sauce lathered on top of the cauliflower so I just prefer the crispy gobi 65, but we ate both of these up real fast. They also reheat really well in the oven which is great for leftovers. 9) Tamarind chutney - not a fan of this. The best tamarind chutney I've had to date is from Tikkaway in Boston and New Haven, CT. This tasted more like a jam. It wasn't bad, just not what I wanted. I wish i saved it to cook with some chicken later, but I ended up tossing it. EDIT: when I later ordered samosas and received the small version of the tamarind chutney, I thought it was great. Not sure if the recipe varies by the day. 10) garlic and cilantro naan - fantastic. can't go wrong. 11) honey ginger naan - this is my first time trying this dish. I have never seen it in a restaurant before, but I am seeing it in restaurants in this area. This was soooo good. Garlic naan has always been my go to, but I think now I have a new one. I only wish I discovered this when I was actually going into work so I didn't have to worry about garlic breath from the garlic naan haha. 12) paneer samosas - oh my goodness these were so good. Soooo good! Def at the top of my list for Indian restaurants after having visited last night. And although being located in a plaza takes away a bit of charm to the place, I can't complain about there being a parking lot! Def better than trying to score a spot further down on Hope Street. Food and service were excellent. The manager came by to check on us at some point - *thumbs up*. We started with the notorious cauliflower 65 and I was not disappointed. It was crunchy, spicy and just oh so yummy. At $5.50 for an app, can't complain! Was tempted to order another one but refrained. We got the bread basket (any 3 breads/$9.99, most are between $3-3.99 anyways) and settled for the honey/ginger, chili/cilantro and potato stuffed naan. My faves were the potato and chili/cilantro - honey/ginger not so much. I think i prefer my naan not on the sweet side. I ordered the chicken tikka lababdar and my gf ordered the bengali seafood stew (highly recommended by our waitress). We both enjoyed our meals equally and def save some naan to dip in sauce of your entrees. So full of flavor and hearty. My gf's stew wasn't as thick as she was expecting for a "stew" but she still enjoyed it. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that the consistency of the jasmine rice was a bit harder than I'd like but other than that, I was very satisfied with my visit and am looking forward to returning. I've always loved this place. It's my go-to for when I've had a long day and deserve a treat. Everyone is friendly. The Sangria is amazing and now available for Take Out since COVID-19. Yay! The food is tasty with the ability to increase the spice level. My favorites include the Cauliflower 65, Potato and Pea Samosa, the Vegetable Lentil Soup, the Naan, and Madras Shrimp but there is more too! I love that the menu is easy to read for people with Dairy allergies or Vegan. read more

In a little city with a considerable amount of Indian restaurants - the gold goes to this one! The food: So you have to start of with the cauliflower 65. I'm a huge fan of the sweet but slightly spicy sauce these little guys come smothered in. I'm used to chicken 65, and how they make a flowered-plant taste like chicken baffles me - but I ain't complaining. Also a huge fan of the chicken tikki and garlic naan. I wouldn't recommend the dosa and chicken - found the flavors to be a little bit more subdued than their other curries. But the dosa itself is massive! I have had friends who've tried the buffet and were not as pleased. I haven't tried it myself, but buffets are always less-than-par food! So for a place like this I'd suggest just going for the a la carte menu. The dinner prices are more expensive though - so come in for lunch if you can! The drinks: I had a blackberry martini which was actually delicious! Not as strong as I would like - but my expectations might be too high ;) The ambiance: There is ample seating for large groups,but also good for a cozy date night. There's also bar seating which is a good option if all the tables are full (like on a friday/saturday night!) They also take reservations. The service: Our server was kind and I have no complaints. We also recently ordered take-out via grubhub. Indian food is notorious for being saucy and spilling all over - but I was very happy to see that they packed our curries and naans in a stable, spill-proof manner! I've been eating at kabab and curry since it first opened and the same with rasoi. I travel a lot and come into the area every few months and make a pitstop at rasoi for some takeout whenever I am in town. The portion sizes have significantly decreased as has the quality. The rice that came with my dish was obviously frozen and reheated in a microwave. The chicken Tikka masala had 4 pieces of small chicken...all for $13. I'd rather pay more for more than this amount for the shrinkflation sizes. At least make the rice fresh daily... read more

Rasoi is fantastic! I've been here in both small and larger groups and the food and service has been spot on! My favorite selections include: --Cauliflower 65: This appetizer is fantastic. This dish takes on a whole new flavor the way they prepare it here... in a good way! Honestly, even if you aren't a fan of cauliflower, you have got to try this dish. Yum! --Garlic & Cilantro Naan: Warm and freshly baked... its a wonderful addition to any appetizer or main course. I can't help but dip it in the sauce of my main entrée everytime, so good. --Chicken Tikka Lababdar: Cubed chicken served in a tomato cream sauce with excellent spices. I usually go for the basmati rice on the side. I love that the chicken and the sauce come in a separate bowl so that I can mix in the perfect about of sauce with my rice to my taste. They have a full bar here so on busy nights you can grab a drink while you wait for your table. They do take reservations (easy to make online). Small, intimate atmosphere. Best chicken tandoori I've tasted in the U.S. It might be because they marinate it longer than usual. Hugh portion for only $15. Serves 2 or more people. Comes with rice. Best Indian buffet in RI on Sundays for meat lovers. On Saturdays they offer all vegetarian buffet, which we are not too fond of but vegans seem to enjoy. Delicious dessert and tons of meat and vegetable dishes to choose from. I love their salads, especially the dressing made with lime and cilantro. Nicely decorated. Casual. i wanted to like this place, really. GF hub has been here and speaks highly of it, so despite there were other places i have researched and wanted to try, we came here upon his suggestion instead. arrived a few minutes before 3pm on a Sat; saw the posted sign about buffet ending soon, but they still served (ie. not closed in between hours). sat down, ordered drinks and apps, then thought about entree choices as the staff put away buffet tables in the background. when putting in our orders, the only non-Indian looking waiter in the house regrettably informed us that "lunch time was over", so we had to go with the dinner pricing of the same food. thinking we would have a larger portion? doesn't seem like it (as evident by the dishes that arrived later), but the price of each just went up $4-8 on you because you arrived 5 minutes too late for lunch. oh well. asked about our serving of that cracker stuff (sorry i didn't get the name; they serve that here instead of bread), our waiter once again regrettably told us that they were just finished with the last batch, but he would check on it and bring us some when the next batch came out. except that he never came back for the rest of our meal. another waiter served us food, the manager-looking gentleman came to ask how our meal was, but no one told us where our waiter went... until the end of our meal as we went to use the restroom, we found him sitting in the back taking his break. i'm not saying he didn't earn his break, but he could've followed up on our orders and maybe explained why he'd be gone, instead of just going MIA on us. or the restaurant could have had someone else serve us to begin with, if he were to go on his break that soon. not sure how that system works... forgot to ask hub to check if his name (which we never caught, btw) was on our tab, or if the establishment goes by a communal tip system. coz if he were to get tips from this meal, he really didn't deserve a lot. not very happy with the forced "upselling", either -- now i'm starting to wonder if it was a universal house rule, or he was telling us that only to jack up the bill for his own benefit. food is good, don't get me wrong, and i do appreciate how they list every dish clearly whether it is gluten-free, dairy-free, or both (think they specify vegetarian/vegan dishes too). but the fact that we had to overspend for what didn't look like a bigger portion of food--plus no crackers!--that's just kind of messed up. yes we could've asked for the crackers but when we realized we were not getting ours while those who came after us did (and our main courses were coming), it was kinda past the point... hope the next visit would be a better experience. read more

The 4 of us went around 7 on a Saturday, without reservations and only waited about 7 or 8 minutes. We were seated and given menus. We had never had Indian food before so we ordered lots of different things. We had hoped the waiter would have given some suggestions or even basic portion size information but we are assuming he was new and very overwhelmed. Their service was great, but maybe more customer interaction in the future. Last and most importantly, THE FOOD WAS EPIC!! We were not disappointed. Savory, sweet, spicy all at the same time!! Rasoi has a great modern look. I would consider this more of an Indian fusion restaurant. They even offer almost like a "TV dinner" type of meal where it's a main with rice (and you can add sides of vegetables). I have been here for buffet once and dinner another night. I think the best thing on the menu are the samosas. They are very hearty and ginromous. I always prefer potatoes/peas, but the lamb and chicken ones were juicy/flavorful. I wish the chutneys tasted more authentic. Everything else is ok. Portion size is very large. Because my partner is Indian (and I am from the tristate area), I was not impressed by the flavors. All the dishes were one note (usually each bite should have a progression of deeper flavors and heat). This is a really great restaurant. I like Indian food and go to a lot of restaurants. I found this one while traveling in Providence and wish it was in my home town. They don't have lamb korma on the menu (the did have chicken korma), so I asked if i could have the korma with lamb instead and they did it. It was delicious. Went there with several friends for dinner and the meal was outstanding. I had the Seafood Stew and it had nice pieces of fish, scallops, shrimp, mussels and vegetables. The sauce had a nice spice, not overpowering, but delicate and tangy. I savored every piece of my stew and I was in Heaven !! All pieces were tender and well done.. just the right texture, just the right flavors. Some of my friends went for the Chicken Tikka and the Chicken Korma. They raved about the nice blend of flavors and big chunks of tender chicken. Their sauces evoked notes of ginger, masala, curry.....OMG....yummy !!! I could have just had those sauces poured over anything like rice or vegetables and I would had eaten the whole plate......LOL.. The cocktail, wine and beer selection are very complete. Some excellent Indian beers like Kingfisher and Taj Mahal are flavorful and light. All of us were happy with our meals. I still consider this the best Indian restaurant in Providence. Netesh, the new manager is attentive, friendly and greets you with a warm smile. Overall a well run establishment. Excellent service, excellent food, excellent management. Probably the best or second-best Indian restaurant in the area. I am obsessed--and I can't emphasize this enough-- OBSESSED with their cauliflower 65. Omg it's so good!! But also the service is wonderful. I would get the papri chaat if you want a kind of summery appetizer that isn't too heavy. I've had it every time I've been there and it's always yummy. Additionally, the various options for naan. I would recommend the garlic-naan but that's only because it's the only one I've ever ordered (and will keep on ordering) because it's delicious. I'm not a huge fan of kofta dishes, but this place is delicious. I will say that my food always comes out HOT. It's a good spiciness level, so if you're like me and can only handle subtle heat- this is the place for you. You can always add spice by adding chili's and peppers, but making it more subtle is hard to do! Be careful! The best Indian food in Pawtucket! Their lunch specials are really great. Sizable portions, healthy, and very affordable. You get a salad, a huge portion of rice, and three samplings of meat dishes (There is also a vegetarian option that is roughly equivalent). Suresh was helpful and attentive. I'm really surprised that the restaurant was not a lot more full during what was ostensibly the lunch rush. Guess I found a hidden gem! It appears that they have a full bar, too, so I imagine that this would be a great choice for a Friday night dinner. read more

This place has more south Indian dishes than any other Indian restaurants in Rhode Island. I've lived in south india for 5-6years so i always had this yearning for south indian dishes. Most of the foods that i have craving for (idle, vada, paper dosa, chapati, yellow daal, etc) are really hard to come by in most Indian restaurants. Even when you do find those, it's in little different style than how i used to have it in india. But this place has them all!! Even butter chicken . I would say to me, this is the most authentic indian food that i could find in Rhode Island. My favorite menu is Idle for sure. And indian style pickles with yellow daal and raita. Those are my go to food here and in india. This place really has given me the taste of hometown lol. read more

By far, Rasoi is my favorite Indian restaurant in New England. Look no further! We travel almost an hour to dine at Rasoi. In addition to preparing the most tasty Indian cuisine, Rasoi honors those with food allergies by labeling all dishes on the menu regarding wheat, dairy, vegetarian and vegan. For spice sensitive people, mild truly means mild, and spicy means spicy! The shrimp is mind-blowing, every entree is unique, distinct, and carefully crafted for maximum eating pleasure. It's clear the finest ingredients are used. Everything from traditional favorites to a delicious comforting mushroom soup and a scrumptious and flavorful grilled paneer over a fresh spinach salad for light dining. The atmosphere is contemporary casual and colorful. This weekend, we were blown away by the beautifully prepared generous trays of entrees and appetizers Rasoi prepared for a dinner party for 50 people at my home. The ordering was easy through EZ-cater, and my guests were thrilled and delighted with the food. I'm so grateful, and I will continue to steer my friends towards Pawtucket when they are looking for an exquisite tasty delight! read more

Really enjoyed everything I tried. A lot of vegan options... Cauliflower 65 had a nice balance of sweet and spicy (but not too spicy in case you have a dislike for super spice). Samosas are delish! I had the avial with brown rice, very good. Definitely will be a regular customer. I'm hoping they will try making some naan out of coconut milk or something non dairy. I had a miserable experience where my friend and I were horribly disrespected by this foul and nasty restaurant. It was unbelievably unpleasant. When i placed an honest review on Google, the owner responded by making lame excuses, personally attacking me and calling me a liar. This is the worst customer service experience I have had or witnessed as a customer, a Chef and as a Critic. I would never ever eat at this place again and I highly suggest that you go somewhere else where they will show you at least a minimum of respect. I would rather eat gas station sushi than ever do business with these rude and deceitful people again. They deserve to go out of business. read more

Still very hard to eat. I got a weird message last time I posted my review of Rasoi, so here's hoping it does not happen again. An Open Letter To The Management Dear Owner of Rasoi, I am sure you are a very nice person. And I know from experience that the staff at Rasoi are also very nice people. But the food is not good. When people leave negative reviews, you often respond positively, asking to learn more about what was not right with their particular meal. But let me ask you a question: if you have ever eaten food in India, at home or in any establishment ranging from good roadside dhaabas to five star restaurants, can you really say that the food at Rasoi or its sister restaurants is good? While I appreciate your willingness to engage with dissatisfied customers, the apparent naivete about what, EXACTLY, is wrong with the food at Rasoi puzzles me. You can probably do this better yourself since you know food better than I do, but if concrete examples are necessary, I'll take a stab at providing some: Take a simple thing like an aloo paratha. An aloo paratha is meant to be supple. Rasoi's version is stiff and oily. Then, take the classic North Indian chicken dish: chicken Tikka. This dish is meant to be one of succulent pieces of chicken, brownish red, moist yet crispy. At least seven times out of ten, rasoi's are uniformly bright red, chewy, and tough. Take the cauliflower 65. Again, meant to be crispy yet moist. But, instead, encased in a leathery batter with an unnatural redness that I hope does not come from (but fear does) food coloring. Why...?! When the textures and colors are so wrong, that is a good indicator that the flavors are not going to be right. Indeed, they are not. To give you the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume that all this is happening because you are cooking Indian food for an audience that may not have had an Indian palate. So, there are probably shortcuts and modifications you have had to use to make this food commercially viable. But times are changing and your audience does include others, people who grew up eating good Indian food, presumably like some of the people you have on staff. YOU CAN DO BETTER!!! And to people who eat at Rasoi: educate yourself so you don't get fobbed off with substandard food! Quantity is important but getting heaps of sub-standard food isn't great. If you don't have access to a proper Indian meal, look up photos of what, at the very least, it is supposed to look like. You may not get a sense of the flavors or freshness but at least you should know when something you are going to put inside your body does not look like it should. For example, meat, in any cuisine, is not meant to be tough, chewy, or with an unnatural color. Take a look at what a real palak paneer is supposed to look like. Do these things look anything like the thing you are about to eat? Finally, to close on a positive note, compared to the other items on offer, the daal at Rasoi is often ok. read more

I go here often with my boyfriend. It's never very crowded, but I'm a big fan of the food and the quick service. It's got a nice ambiance, as well. I really enjoy the location, and they're currently running discounts in July where you can win any number of deals. We've had 20% off on 2 occasions. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
