I have very mixed emotions leaving this review.. I have eaten here on many occasions and have always been happy.. new decor looks fabulous! Food was still super yummy.. my problem was... there were new items on menu that were label gluten free friendly but they were cooked in same fryer as Gluten foods. I have a problem with this. I totally get that you say 'gluten free friendly' but it's very misleading to think I'm getting a special treat only to be let down. Now that being said the manager was very sweet to have the chef /kitchens staff change out the oil in fryer so we could have a few of the dishes that we wanted to order (he made it clear that he could only do this because it was early in the day)... so yes it was a mostly positive experience but I think they should not label things GF if they really can't be cooked safely. read more

Yum! Great place for Indian food. I love the cauliflower Manchurian, cauliflower 65, samosas, and tofu saag! Delivery service was really fast and food was still hot when it arrived. My most recent order from Rasoi was utterly disgusting. I ordered tandoori chicken. This time I'll give them credit, they gave me the right order of garlic naan. This order of tandoori chicken was four breast bones picked over for what looked like to be the best part of the breast meat for another dish or the leftovers from another persons meal slathered in the sauce. We came here on a Sunday around noon for some lunch with some friends visiting from out of town. Rasoi was suggested to us and we're so happy we tried it! The lunch buffet is truly a bargain at $14.95 a person. Come hungry as you will be able to eat right away as much as you would like. I was disappointed that only dinner portions are available on weekends. I had never tried Indian food, so I just wanted a sample of some things to see what I would like. Rasoi is very good restaurant and seems always open. Unlike other restaurants, Rasoi serves lunch after 3 pm too. We stopped by for lunch on our way back from Cape Cod to NJ. Food reminded us "MA ke hath ka khana". We tried Shahi Paneer and Veg Biryani. Indian Cuisine is always a good option if you are vegetarian. Also, there is a catch in pricing for lunch menu. Ever since I spent time in London I have been trying to find great Indian food like I experienced there. I found it at Rasoi!! The food is absolutely incredible! They use an excellent blend of spices. The restaurant is very colorful inside and the food is delicious and gorgeous to look at. They also have one of my favorite beers that's hard to find Taj Mahal. Edit: I would like to add that on the same day of this order, the manager read it and gave called me expressing his apologies. That earns a second chance in my book. Full disclosure, this was also my 1st Grubhub delivery and 1st Grubhub through Yelp. So I may be spoiled as the only Indian food I have eaten is from Kabob and Curry but I found my order cooked with lackluster quality. Like it was microwaved instant. Also I never received my drink and when I called the driver he said no drink had been handed him and I should call the restaurant. A Keith answered and said that I would have to go through Grubhub to get a refund or a second delivery. After I had been on hold a few minutes I received an email that the restaurant had refunded my drink. Finally got around to trying Rasoi for takeout and I was not disappointed. I looked online and it seems as if their COVID menu is different from the usual menu. For example, I could not find the thali on the new menu for the life of me. So I went with the lamb saag. It was great. The dish came with basmati rice and 3 different sauces/condiments (I'm not familiar with the names). We also tried the garlic cilantro naan. Tasty, but not as much flavor as I expected. I've been coming to Rasoi for years, but now that I've got a wee one in tow, my appreciation for their casual, fun and family-friendly atmosphere has multiplied indefinitely. In addition to having fabulous food, fun music, great service and a clean, comfortable space, it's just the perfect place to bring your kids. It's loud enough so that if they scream, you won't get dirty looks and the acoustics kind of muffle the sound. Service is pretty fast so you can be in and out before a meltdown becomes a reality, and things are paced so well that you can even feed your kid nicely between courses. Kid stuff aside, the bites are the best. My favorites are Cauliflower 65 (believe the hype), Papri Chat (soooo gooooooood), Saag Panner and Chicken Tikka Lababdar. There's a great list of naan to choose from, but my favorite is the garlic & cilantro -- it's the perfect balance of flavors, and the tangy bread if fabulous with every single one of the sauces. I'll start by saying that I love Rasoi and have tried other Indian restaurants in the area and prefer Rasoi's samosas (pea and potato), naan, and paneer. That said, if you are looking for spice, I don't think this restaurant is for you. I love spice, but usually start cautiously. I started with their "medium"... thought to myself "ok that is not spicy at all." Upgraded next time to "hot"..."oh wow, that tastes just like medium." Then, I upgraded to their highest spice level, "fiery hot," which satisfied my craving for spice. HOWEVER, I have now ordered "fiery hot" twice via take out (directly from them, with fiery hot listed on the receipt), and it again tasted just like medium. After trial and error, I think Rasoi CAN nail the spice, but it is too unreliable if that is important to you. As a reference for readers, I usually choose the mid-level spice at other restaurants for a comfortable burn and enjoy fresh (not pickled) jalapeños. read more

Very good food. Liked my paneer mattar. My friend liked his mango curry. I love the decor here, very nice and modern. The paper covers on the tables are wasteful. Waiter brought the check before even asking if we wanted dessert or anything else. Also, the service was ok during dinner but as soon as he gave us the bill he never came back to our table and never offered us more water. I find this to be in bad taste when the restaurant is almost empty. I would never hold up a table in a busy restaurant but when it's empty you can make the customers at least feel welcome and not rushed to leave as soon as you get your money. Chicken Tikka was dry and had been sitting there for hours, also cold. Poor dessert selection, rice pudding at an Indian restaurant during Sunday Buffet is very poor effort for $16. For a place that has an integrated/live kitchen as a part of the dining experience the food was cold and poor quality, really baffling. Kitchen staff were eating from the buffet while there were customers eating as well. Goes to the below average level of refinement and concerns for hygiene. By far one of the greatest places to get Indian food in the area! While India Restaurant may have a little bit more atmosphere, this place has the food selection! I happened to get the Bengali Lamb and I'm serious when I say I've never had a better meal! I love this place. You walk in and as the aroma of the food reaches you, you know you've made the right decision to go to Rasoi. Everything I've had here/sampled from friends' dishes has been phenomenal. Prepared with care and with generous portions with plenty to take home. A huge fan of their naan. The honey&ginger naan is on the sweeter side. Really like the stuffed date&coconut naan (I've actually stopped by just for this before) and the stuffed potato naan. Because I'm terribly indecisive, the first time I went to Rasoi, I ordered the Nirvana Thali which gave me a little taste of several dishes-- the chicken tikka lababdar, lamb curry, tawa shrimp, saag paneer, house lentil, naan, basmati rice, and the dessert of the day. It takes a moment before you realize that all of the food before you is, in fact, for you. All of it was delicious, I was surprised by how good the house lentils were. A friend had Mango Curry which was also stellar. Everything was cooked to perfection and the variation in the dishes made for a fun dining experience. I've been here in groups both large and small, and the space works beautifully for either. Huge selection for vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free diners. Lunch is very reasonably priced if you want to give this place a try for the first time. I greatly prefer Rasoi to its sister restaurant Kabob and Curry because of its superior service, food, and ambiance. Even when filled, it doesn't feel crowded and I've never had trouble hearing over the noise. Get lost in the food in the presence of great company. Usually I stick with Sagg, but I tried a ground chicken, mushroom, and pea dish and was very happy with it. The drinks were delicious, I had a peach white wine sangria and it was tasty. I am strictly rating this from a takeout experience perspective and will update this review as I am curious to compare an in-dining experience to see if the flavors, and the texture of the food is different. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer, and IMO this really was the best thing on the list. The outside was crisp, decadent and nicely caramelized, while the inside was moist, delivered that nice cauliflower flavor, and was an excellent counter balance to the delicious exterior. If you do find yourself ordering off this menu, this is one item that I would recommend. Next we ordered the chicken tikka...(Not really sure what it was called, but reminiscent of a not well put together Americanized tikka masala. The entree was really lacking flavor from my perspective and there was no heat, even though we ordered the entree spicy. The sauce was very runny, and didn't stick well to the rice or naan and made for a less than pleasurable experience. The accompanying rice was just bland, dry, and crunchy. Not a great combination, without any aromatics. I am issued to having a pulao accompaniment with peas or at least some cardamom pods, or have the option to have something else like a Kashmiri rice to add a bit more texture and flavor, and neither aromatics or any other flavorful options were available. Next on the order was eggplant. I would have to say that this was also a bit insipid and lack the depth of flavor I am used to. The one thing that it did have was a lot of grease. Lastly, we ordered a bread basket. There were some interesting flavors that I wanted to love. Honey, ginger...Combinations that really excited my palate and that were a gross disappointment. By the time we got the delivery, the bread was soggy, chewy and really inedible. The flavor wanted to be there, but at that point the vehicle on which it was delivered became texturally unappealing. One of my favorite cuisines is Indian. I enjoy both southern and northern Indian, as they are extremely different to me. I have had the pleasure of having wonderful food, and perhaps I have extremely high standards. As I said, takeout is really not optimal for naan, but the other flavors should have been there. When I ask for a spice level, I expect to get it. read more
