The payment amount isn't important. I want a lower interest rate. Rate Dumbass does a hard pull on my credit, then offers me a loan term a full 22 months longer than my current payout. They are ignorant and horrible!! I had applied to rategeneius based on the reviews. A loan officer called me and said my loan has been approved after running my credit. I had clearly stated these guys that I am on Visa and I had sent all the related documents. They made me wait for long and tried to sell their insurance. When I declined to buy their insurance, later they call me and say they work only with citizens. I do not recommend this to anyone. I was very impressed with the fact that RateGenius does all the work for the re-titling of the vehicle, which Bank of America, although they would give me a competitive rate, would not do. Only if Your Worthy! First off; These people have helped me in the past when my credit score was 680+. Now that I have a B/K on my credit report and my score is down to 630, it seems that I'm not worthy of their assistance. When I called to find out what was going on they had my online app in my wife's name and all the info I input was incorrect. They told me a loan officer would call me within 24 hours. That was two days ago. If they don't have an offer for you in 30 minutes, your not worthy either. Forget about it. AND: They sell your info to some insurance company that tells you on an unsolicited phone call that they are "partnering" to save you on car insurance while the loan officer is putting your deal together. EDIT-9/18 A representative was able to resolve my issue and has since satisfied my account and complaint. Thank you! While looking to refinance my vehicle, I was contacted by a representative of this company with an offer. The representative assured no down-payment, no payment for 60 days, and the new financing company would completely buy out and take over my car loan. My monthly payment would be less and a contract was drawn up. RateGenius was responsible for procuring the buy-out quote from my old lender and give this amount to the new lender so they could buy out the loan. Now, MONTHS LATER, I find out that RateGenius did not give the new lender the correct buy-out information and left a balance on the old lender account. I have contacted the company several times with little to no response. The old lender is now expecting payment and so is the new one leaving me owing twice the amount I can afford RIGHT BEFORE A MAJOR HURRICANE DIRECTLY HITS MY AREA! Again, I have tried to get a resolution from the company and nothing has been offered in response to THEIR MISTAKE. This is ridiculous and extremely unprofessional. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will pursue this further as necessary. read more

Awful experience. Loan officer was responsive up until I decided to cancel my application after the lender began asking for odd requests to fund the loan. The loan officer (Anthonei) completely ghosted me and wouldn't take my calls or emails as I repeatedly asked when I would receive my original title back. No one in the company will help me. Worst lending experience of my life and I've worked in lending for nearly 20 years. I guess I will have to get the BBB involved in order to get my title back. RUN from this company. My credit score at Equifax is 735. Transunion is only a few points less. Credit Karma website messaged me to say that my current interest rate is too high(6.99% apr) based on my good credit, on my 2017 Hyundai Sonata. I have a perfect payment record on the car with Hyundai Motor Finance. I decided to apply to refinance the car loan with rateGenius, and was denied a refinancing loan. Well...the rep was nice. Get ready for several hard hits on your credit report. Not told that multiple financial institutions were going to run my credit. In my case, because I'm self employed, they wanted two years of tax documents (70+ pages) and Profit and Loss Statements. Quote, "The credit union just wants to make sure there are no liens on your income." I felt I was refinancing a home, not a car. They do like to push the GAP insurance. This was on credit karma and was advertised with a "lower rate" for my vehicle on credit karma. With no damage to your credit score. I did the application online and awaited a reply. About an hour later my credit score service starts going off with HARD inquires on my credit. I was Called with an offer that was NO WHERE near the rate that was advertised. My credit score is 800+ so not sure how good your credit has to be to actually get the advertised rate. And for sure given credit karma has all the vehicle payoff, current payment, year and model of my vehicle. So now I am at 3 hard inquires over this application. This is just like making a credit application at a car dealership.if I wanted 3+ credit inquires I could have done that myself. I even the took the offer and the paperwork NEVER showed up. Very helpful! I got a letter in the mail approving me for a new Auto Refinance at an APR of 4.99. My current lender is at 6% - So I jumped on the opportunity. To my surprise, I qualified for an even better rate at 4.24! The process was straight forward even though I had to re-submit one of the documents because I had completed the form when I was only supposed to sign it and leave it blank. My boyfriend re-fi'd with them months ago and once it was time for me to get a new vehicle I got the original loan through the dealer. A couple months later I received a mail offer from them and they were able shave 9 months off my loan term and give me a rate in the 2%'s !!! I used them about four years ago. That went well. I tried again recently. They approved a re-fi, then said it was not approved and told me to re-submit, which of course causes another 'ding' on the credit report. I called customer service, and they said they would inform a loan officer and they would call me back. They never called back. So... I resubmitted again. It was approved, but at a higher rate and for less years. They did not stand behind the original quote. Furthermore, rates had, nationally, dropped since the first lower quote. So it made no sense. Their communications have also gotten inconsistent. You will receive text messages, emails, and calls from the rep handling your application. You can reply to an email or a text, wanting a reply via email or text, and they will instead call you a day or two later and leave a message, telling them you to call. They do not seem to want anything in writing, when quoting and communicating with customers. It's annoying. They should ask the customer "how do you want to communicate." Instead, it is constant phone tag and meaningless texts and canned emails. I was happy with the results a few years ago, but they have lost their way somehow. It is a combination of mismanagement, bad communication policies/methods, and lack of following through with rates quoted. I'll never use them again. Dinged my credit twice, which is perfect, all for nothing. I ended up refinancing through my existing credit union. read more

RateGenius sent me a letter about refinancing my car, telling me I was pre-approved for a certain rate. I went online to sign up, and when they called me, I was approved for a higher rate. It was still a better rate than I had, so I decided to give them a shot. The entire process took me printing out four different batches of documents and going to the UPS store four times to get things notarized and sent out. They would send me something and then need something else. When it was all done, I didn't even get to skip a month's payment, like they said I would. In all, it was actually easier to finance my new home than it was to refinance a car with them. A few days later, a supervisor called me to see if I was satisfied. In the middle of telling him what had happened, he said, "Hmm, good to know" and then HUNG UP on me! I called him back, but it went to voicemail and he has not called back. Unethical organization. I will never do business with them again, and I would NOT recommend them to anyone. read more

Absolute rubbish. Found rateGenius through credit karma which I trusted. Saw that I could save money by refinancing so I applied. I even provided my social to help with the application process. HUGE mistake. I got an automated email saying my application was being processed. I haven't heard back in WEEKS. I emailed customer service and haven't heard a thing. I'm going to complain to the Better Business Bureau. Companies should be responsible if they are handling sensitive information and rateGenius is a complete failure with that. read more

I also got a notification from Credit Karma stating that rateGenius could save me money by refinancing my vehicle loan. What a waste of time and they hurt my credit with another hard inquiry. So I get this email: 'Your application to refinance your vehicle is APPROVED! Contact us today to complete your refinance.' They also told me: 'Regarding your credit score, not to worry. Any pulls done are very minimal.' They only do soft pulls, not hard pulls. NOT TRUE! Just over an hour after I completed my application, I had a hard pull from AIR FORCE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION (Texas) which affected my credit score! Every time you apply for credit, a 'hard inquiry' is placed on your Credit Report and it may stay on your report for 25 months. My score dropped from 'Very Good' to just 'Good' and my FICO Score decreased by 17 points! Now I'm down to a score of 750. Lastly, I do NOT want the stock reply from Julia G. saying how they always strive to provide their customers with excellent service and communication - that is bullshit! They need to improve their communication upfront and NOT lie to everyone. Needless to say, my loan was NOT approved. read more
