RAW Sushi Bistro is my absolute favorite place to go out and eat. Located in downtown Modesto and easily accessible from the Freeway. Alex the owner can be found at any given night greeting customers like close friends. The staff is amazing from the hostess to the wait staff to the bartenders, you'll receive amazing service from start to finish. Their Garlic Edamame is a must as is the yellow tail razor appetizer. If you like spice the Dante's Inferno Roll as well as the Neff are all a must try! If you like a little sustenance and not a big fish person the Beef Cilantro Roll is delicious. If your looking for fish but not spice the Shark Bite and Roadkill are also great options. Let's talk about the best sushi spot in Modesto. Period. It is a blessing and a curse to have tried their special garlic sauce. A blessing because every time I eat it it feels as if Leonardo Da Vinci is painting the Mona Lisa on my tongue with every bite. Yes I'm dramatic, but what I'm trying to say is that it is VERY good. It is a curse because well, I can't eat garlic sauce everyday and I start to crave it when one usually craves things (when we can't have it; i.e. 7 AM driving to work). Raw Sushi Bistro Modesto is my all time top favorite sushi spot! The restaurant is very spacious and they offer an amazing scenery. Its great for big parties and they offer outside seating as well. It is very clean and tidy throughout the establishment. It is very lively and entertaining especially on the weekends! Not to mention the food is DELICIOUS I come here once a week from Stockton to go out and dine in. My favorites are the Spicy Garlic Edamame, Dante's Inferno Roll, and Half Shell Oysters! There are many more options on my favorites, but too much to list. The alcoholic drinks that are served are great as well! I always go with a Green Tea Drink. The service and servers are all very nice and professional, I will definitely return back to see Autumn, she does a lovely job! The vibe at this restaurant is welcoming and highly enjoyable. Raw sushi bistro deserved a 5/5 for many reasons. Our busser Gabe gave me an amazing chair to sit on. He helped me find the bathroom and even tied my shoe. Current decor and casual dress is acceptable. Nice enough that I would do a more formal dinner date with my spouse. don't usually write reviews but I had a horrible experience. made a reservation with my friends and let them know we'd be a little bit late and they said that's okay. we got there and they said we have to wait for a table to open which was fine with us. we see a table open and ask about it and she starts saying that people already have it reserved. 20 minutes pass and the table was still empty so we were starting to get a bit bothered. We expressed our concerns and the hostess started giving attitude and was being rude, rolling her eyes and we were very respectful . Long story short we asked to speak to the manager and she wasn't helpful. We were starting to get more angry and the hostess started yelling and putting her fingers in my friend's face being extremely disrespectful. If you want sushi with a side of Covid come to Raw Sushi Bistro in Modesto, CA. They are currently operating at 100% indoor capacity (say what about the Red Tier? What's that again?! ) and not a single employee was wearing a mask. It was like I was transported back to 2019. My friends and I ate outside, and noted that the employees wore masks when they came out and served us. Uh. Thanks. But you should really be following health and safety guidelines and wear them the entire time. The sushi was good, but I don't even want to know what the kitchen staff is doing when it comes to covid safety when the operators of this establishment is blatantly ignoring CDPH and CalOSHA safety standards. I will say, lunch yesterday was the riskiest situation I have placed myself in in a year. Proceed with caution. Yikes! read more

I decided to check out Raw for dinner before a concert at the State Theatre in Modesto and it was the most amazing sushi experience I've ever had. My friend and I arrived around 6pm on Friday and the place was packed. Fortunately they had bar seating available so we didn't have to wait the estimated 45 mins for a table. I'm glad we sat at the bar because the bartenders were awesome! One of the sushi makers came over and chatted with us, found out we were visiting Modesto for the first time and bought us a round of tequila shots on the house. Best service EVER. We ordered three rolls and they were all delicious. Dante's inferno - highly recommend! Fried jalapenos are yummy even on their own, and they don't have seeds so they're not ultra spicy. Rainbow roll and dragon roll were just as good. One nice surprise was that there are 10-12 pieces per roll which we totally did not expect! See photo for proof. The restaurant has a great ambiance to it, hip and vibrant. Prices aren't outrageous, I'd recommend this place to anybody looking for a place to eat in Modesto. "Raw" is a more up-scale sushi restaurant that is almost always extremely busy - I would suggest reservations, if you can get them. The food is delicious & fresh, and the service is very good. I've been here several times. It can be quite noisy at times due to the large number of customers, but it has a "city" atmosphere and is a great place to meet before an event at the Gallo Center, or anywhere downtown, as it is within walking distance. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Waited a 1hr and 45mins for a to go order when I was told it would be ready in 30. Also told lies in order to make me wait longer when I just wanted my money back and for my order to get canceled. Once my food came out they gave me a $20 gift certificate which was just a joke when I spent $100 for my food and a ridiculous wait time.
