Dr Raynato Castro is so nice and funny, he makes going to the dentist a pleasant experience. He cares about details, and making sure everything is done right the first time. The hygienists are very kind and skilled, when I leave my teeth look and feel great. My gums and jaw hurt for a few hours, but don't they always after a trip to the dentist? Dr. Castro is the best dentist I've ever had. He's funny, kind and very knowledgeable. The entire staff is very friendly and gentle. I'm never in any pain or discomfort. This dentist and her staff were very friendly and accommodating. The exam areas, restrooms and lobby were exceptionally clean. Unfortunately I'm not happy with the cosmetic crown I had placed on my front tooth :( The color is a fine match but the shape and size of the tooth is off. (Not the same width as it's match or as wide as it was before. The new crown has a rounded edge when it was a sharp corner before and I requested it stay that way). Also, I've been left with a space/gap where there wasn't one before. As a result a tooth that was fine before has begun to move or of place. This dentist did not actually make the crown in unhappy with. However this is the product she sells. Perhaps she'll consider contracting with another vendor. Stinks that I got stuck with the bad match tooth :( My tooth was ugly before and IS better now. BUT to make matters worse, because of the other tooth moving out of place I feel that I'll need braces to get my teeth as straight as they were before. Lesson learned, be careful what you wish for. If only I could have just dealt with my old "ugly" tooth. It would have saved me a huge headache. That being said, I am not a dentist and this is only my opinion. read more

A very friendly dentist and kind to his colleagues and patients. Dr. Castro is humorous but not lacking in professionalism. A graduate of UOP and practiced under Dr. William Van Dyk after completing his education. I used to live in Richmond but I recently moved to the Antioch/Brentwood area and Dr. Castro's knowledge and care is worth the drive. Dr. Castro's staff and hygienists are intelligent and skilled. I feel very comfortable with them. I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted here and I did not feel pain. His assistant even cleaned them up for me in a special solution once I asked if I could have them. As far as I could tell, he only recommends necessary procedures. I've been seeing Dr. Van Dyk for my dental care for the last 30 years. Admittedly I was a little apprehensive when I found myself being transitioned over to Dr. Castro. But I shouldn't have worried. He's a class act. Very knowledgeable of his craft. Funny and highly skilled. He genuinely cares for his patients and he is adamant about teaching you how to maintain your dental health. Run don't walk to see Dr. Castro-- he's the best dentist in the area. My dad & mother have been going to the same dental office for over 30+ years. To my surprise they decided to switch their dental care to Raynato Castro's office in San Pablo CA. After my dads 1st visit he keep telling me that I to needed to switch because he loved the care he received. So both my husband & I decided to do just that & we are both happy we did. Dr Van Dyke has been my dentist since I was 2. Currently I will NEVER come back here. I wnet into the office and the receptionist Karol is rude as hell. She apparently think she runs the office from what was said over the phone. In the beginning she refused to answer my question without me asking a few times. The way that business is done now I wouldn't refer anybody here again. Its a disgrace that Dr Van Dyke sold the business to someone who is the least like himself. I'm going to start by saying I get really bad anxiety, and because of an experience I had when I was younger at a different office, I hadn't seen a dentist since (I was a teen & now I'm in my 30's) so I was extra nervous before my visit. I knew I badly needed to find a dentist so I found this office here on Yelp, & let me say I made a great choice! Dr. Castro and his assistant made me feel so comfortable, I was still nervous but not as I had thought I would be thanks to their jokes & Costco talk (since I work there) lol. The 2 ladies in the front desk, Ada and Stephanie were so helpful & explained everything since I'm a new patient, they were really nice! Thank you ladies. I enjoyed my experience, I am very pleased. I really liked the service/attitude Dr.Castro provided, I would give him 5 stars for him and his DA alone, but this review is about the entire business overall and unfortunately it's an honest 2 star type of business. The real Pros: The dentist/hygienist/DA all have excellent skills in building rapport with clientele; friendly/ professional/informative. They explain everything they plan to do with you in detail and have a constant positive attitude. Cons: SOME (not all) front desk staff are incompetent, rude, and unprofessional. In particular an old lady with glasses and a butch haircut. Now here is why they are terrible front receptionists. They made a mistake and billed my insurance for a procedure that never took place during my appt, I basically got charged for something I never had done to me. I calmly and kindly let them know they made a mistake and instead of apologizing, these people got irritated by me for saying that one sentence alone. For their mistake the old lady with glasses told me to wait 20 minutes to check with the dentist to see if this was true. Then when they found out it was true the old lady gave me attitude when I asked what they would do about it, she literally laughed in a sarcastic manner, I could not believe how rude this person was being to someone who has been nothing but patient with their mistakes. No patient should be treated this way. She knew she fucked up too when I left and suddenly tried to explain the mistake she made again, but it changed nothing. This kind of cheap labor is why a lot of dental offices go out of business, they hire just anybody to do the front end work, even inexperienced/rude incompetent old ladies. The front end receptionist is the face of the business and if this is her impression they're giving clientele then eventually this business will sink and that's unfortunate for such good dentists and back end staff. It seems a lot of people had a similar experience as mine where they get charged a lot of money for things they never did at their appointment, and had to deal with this rude old lady. I wish I had read those reviews sooner. -a dead giveaway was the fact that this old lady didn't even know how to access the dental program on her computer screen and had to ask her co worker how to do it....that worried me a lot, this is the most basic thing in any computer program, to access it, how would you not know how to do that? How would you file claims and schedule appointments if you don't know how to access the program itself, Jesus! I will be switching to a new dentist. I can't risk my well being and finances with a receptionist who doesn't know what she's doing or how to handle insurance claims. Avoiding the headache now before it's too late. Maybe when they fire the old lady with glasses, I think her name might be Anne, and find someone who is experienced then they may do very well. Until then they will continue to lose patients. Dr. Castro is a Godsend. He is kind and gentle and has a great sense of humor, in addition to being a superb dentist. I'm somewhat anxious about dentistry and I told him that going in... he has always set me at ease and has never made me feel bad for my dentaphobia. I called these guys and spoke to a lady at first (Rita I think?) that was super nice and took down all of my info and scheduled an appointment. I realized she scheduled the wrong date so I called back to change the date. Unfortunately, there weren't any times the following week that could work for me which is fine, but the second lady who picked up the phone (Ann) was super rude and telling me how "I shouldn't have waited so long" and "everyone does this". I was going to reschedule for another appointment since I was not in any rush but because of her tone and attitude I canceled my appointment immediately and will go to another dentist without even stepping foot in this place! Maybe if you hired friendly people to represent your company you would have gotten my money. read more

Holy Moly. Dr. Castro is the bomb. Funny, kind, patient, and caring, I have never once left the dentist and thought, that was a LOVELY experience. But it was. They even gave me a rose on my way out. I had pain in one of my teeth, and the made time to see me ASAP and were able to fill my cavity that same day. Dr. Castro is the best! I am definitely a nervous nelly when I comes to having my mouth worked on but he and his staff are very gentle and explain everything and even lie a little bit in the good way to not let you know everything they are doing in there (works for me). I didn't feel a thing last time I got drilled and he and his staff are funny and engaging to distract me from the pain of having to sit still for an hour. Best dentist I have ever had!! The difference between Dr. Castro and other dentists is that he genuinely cares about YOU. He's got a great sense of humor, a gentle spirit, and, as mentioned, he cares. I never thought I'd look forward to going to the dentist, but I now do. It's as though everyone who walks through that front door is family. Here are some examples of his genius: I have a fake front tooth that was longer than the teeth adjacent to it and gave me a goofy grin. I asked Dr. Castro if there was anything he could do about it because my daughter's wedding was approaching and I didn't want to ruin any photos. Dr. Castro took care of the problem ingeniously and I felt confident about smiling again. At the next checkup, Dr. Castro said "Now let's take care of that space." (He was referring to a space where a tooth once was). I was so surprised as I had given up on that and hadn't even mentioned it even though I hated having the gap between teeth. I had lost that tooth years ago because I refused to put a crown on the tooth after a root canal (turns out crowns - or at least back then - had a metal base that causes me pain). The empty space left was causing my teeth to shift, and Dr.Castro had a plan that did not involve any metal. I now have a 3-piece bridge that covers the adjacent teeth and fills the empty space with a new tooth. It's one piece and made of a new material - wish I'd remembered the name - but it looks natural. The work was amazing, but even more amazing than that, Dr. Castro was the one who saw the problem and then provided a plan to fix it. His solution was a third the cost that had been quoted to me by other dentists whose plans included the metal-based crowns (which is why I had given up hope of ever having it fixed) . After the work was completed, Dr. Castro told me there weren't any more problems with my teeth so he'd see me in six months for a cleaning. He is the best! and I am so happy and fortunate to have found him! read more

I was looking for a new dentist so my friend referred me to Ray. I thought I might have to try out a few dentists before I found the right one. Well I didn't. he was the right one. I've never had a dentist as good as him so I wasn't expecting much. He's is so nice. He explains everything to you. All his employee's are great too. They all make you feel more than welcome. If you know someone that doesn't like or is scared to go to the dentist this is the perfect place. I actually look forward to going. He's so funny and entertaining .
