Ray's was the only place that had the patience, knowledge and expertise to help me with my purchase. They offered suggestions, alternatives and advice for my needs and my budget. I'm 53yo woman and have lost 230 lbs. Ever since losing the weight I've wanted to get a bike. I checked out a store in Davis on Saturday and no one looked at me & my friend, greeted us or even smiled so we left. It was my birthday and we were just back from Reno on the train. I was ready to buy. Yesterday, Sunday 3/13, I went to Ray's Cycle where I'd browsed about a year ago. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a stocking footed man who offered to help me. I laughed and told him to finished getting ready. Then immediately Sarah came out to help me & she was the same person that helped me a year ago. Ray also helped off and on while I was there which was probably 90 minutes. We discussed what I was looking for, how much I was willing to pay, and got tons of information on bicycles. They are VERY knowledgeable, friendly, patient and very willing to help you meet your needs/wants. They also greeted everyone who walked in the door. She had me pick 3 bikes to try - a hybrid (think its a hybrid due to the tires), a mountain bike & a "comfort" bike. I haven't been on a bike in years. It was exhilarating flying down Main St. I tried them in that order - hybrid-mountain bike-comfort. When I walked in after the comfort ride I said "We have a winner!" They have a varied selection from newbies like me to biking enthusiasts, as well as all the accessories you could need as well. read more

Early in the morning I arrived at the Vacaville Transit Center to discover the bike I had locked up the day before had been viciously attacked. Because the frame and tire were locked down, the lowlifes resorted to removing my handlebars and cutting all the brake lines, and gear shifting cables. As someone who relies on his bike to get to work, it was an awful way to start the day. Once I got to Ray's everything got better. The entire staff was very friendly, and offered words of comfort when they heard about my situation. Ray helped me throughout the day. He took special care to resolve the issues I had and went above and beyond for me in every way. Ray is very honest (did not try to up-sell anything), knowledgable, and community oriented. Its great to see someone who takes so much pride in what they do. I get the sense Ray enjoys seeing one of his customers happily riding their bike on a sunny day, more so than he would enjoy collecting their money. At the end of the day I left Ray's very satisfied. His whole staff was responsible for turning a terrible day, into an actual good day. Its great to know that this shop is so close to where I live. Ray's Cycle shop is a true asset to Vacaville, all of Solano county, and beyond. I look forward to seeing Ray and his staff again when my tune up is due. Thank you again. read more

I don't give 1-star review but in this case I'm giving one for this shop. If you have an old bicycle needing some work don't waste your time bringing it to Ray's. My bike tires/wheels needed work or replacement but Ray's declined to do the work outright. I took my bike 10 miles north to Dixon and it was done there. I hope this review helps others who have the same bike issues like mine. read more

I really love this Cycling Shop. This will now be primary vendor and cycling service. Compared to other cycling shops they do not have a lot of accessories (Trek). However what catches my interest is the staff members are friendly, humble and put their customers first. I'm looking forward in purchasing a bike from next month. I was very displeased with the service I received at Ray's last Saturday.  My Father and I needed our bikes serviced (Gear Adjustment and tire changes) and were told prior to, that the bikes could be worked on. Once there, we waited to be helped for long period of time, however the employee ...seemed to be understanding of this inconvince since they were giving out discounts to other customers. My father and I did not receive this same treatment. We spoke to 2 associates the 1st said that he could work on our bikes, however the repair time was going to be 2 weeks. He left to write up bill for the total cost then another employee came and said otherwise. "We don't work on your kind of bikes", because they weren't from Ray's. The website didn't say this. My father and I went on to buy the parts we needed anyways. While finishing the transaction the employee also went on to say that "the cost to repair our bikes would be more than what they're worth" before he even examined our bikes.  I don't believe he was trying to save us money when he said that. Being the only African American males in the store the things he said and the way he treated us put my father and I both in a very uncomfortable position. Which the associate there was not willing to fix by charging us full price unlike the other costumers. That being said I will not be going back to Rays in the future . read more

I've always wanted a fancy bicycle that was fast and would last me a long time. I'm a beginner and don't know a lot about bicycles. Before coming into the store, I thought I would be overwhelmed and look completely clueless. When I went inside, all those fears were completely gone! The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was greeted immediately when I entered and was asked how they can help me. I explained that I was new to cycling and just wanted a casual bike that was fast. They showed me a number of bike and allowed me to test ride a bunch of them around the neighborhood. After the test ride, they followed up and asked how the bike felt, if there was any discomfort, and to see if I liked the bike at all. Being a newbie, they also explained how the bike works, how to maintain it, etc. I appreciated the time and effort from the staff and I learned a lot about cycling on my first visit. I ended up getting a Trek 7.1 FX. I was very happy with the purchase and pleased with the excellent customer service. When I wanted to put the bike into my car to bring back home, they showed me the proper way of disassembling the front wheel and placing the bike inside. This was very useful and helpful. I can't find anything wrong about this place. Great customer service, large selection of bicycles, and you can test ride some cool bikes. If you have the slightest interest in cycling, check this place out! Highly recommended! read more

They found and set aside an item for me and actually called me to verify I was still interested in the item...that is rare! Very friendly staff, walked in today (10 minutes before closing) needing an overhaul of my rear MTB wheel. Mike (one of the owners) came right up to me and ask what he could do. I was impressed at the fact that he took the time to get to know me what I was riding and how long I've had the bike. He is very knowledgeable in the industry and articulated the best and worse case scenarios regarding the repair. I'm definitely coming back and glad I found a shop close to home. read more

Amazing, above-and-beyond service with great attention to detail! We ended up at Rays when our tandem had a major component failure during an organized ride nearby - Foxy's Fall Century. The bike needed to have two chainrings and bolts replaced, and we were afraid that the parts would not be in stock. (The timing chain on a tandem requires non-standard sized bolts.) However, Dave at Ray's Cycle went out of his way to track down the parts, and had us back on the road shortly, so we were able to finish the ride. Throughout the whole process, Dave was very patient and honest with us, and emphasized how he was going to make doubly sure that we ended up with a safe and fully functional bike. This is definitely the place to take your ride if you want expert, quality service. read more

I have been into Ray's soooo many times over the last seven years and every single time the people have been top notch! I started coming here because my husband has been going to Ray's for probably the last fifteen years or so. My most memorable experience was when I ran over something that popped my tire when I was miles from home on a 100-degree day. Fortunately I was close enough to Ray's to walk it over, fully expecting to wait for however long it took for them to help me out, but the always-friendly people put aside what they were doing and got me a new tube in there in ten minutes and I was on my way. I called ahead and was told to bring in my bike and they would take a look. They warned me if it was more than just a quick fix, they were really busy and had jobs for the next few weeks, which is of course expected this time of year. I was grateful they took the time to check out my brakes...which was more a me issue than problems with my brakes. Although completely slammed, I was given a complete lesson on removing and replacing my front tire, and then did it a few times while watched to make sure I could do it. The gentleman even showed me the best way to place my bike in my car. And did this all for free! The owner was there and was watching to make sure this novice (me not the employee) was confident in how to do everything before leaving. I am so GRATEFUL! Thank you very much for your time, attention to detail (noticing how inexperienced and frustrated I was), and epic customer service! I shopped at 4 different bike stores (2 in Napa, Ray's in FF and Ray's in VV) and enjoyed the experience of shopping at Ray's in Vacaville. Though I didn't buy from them, it wasn't due to a bad experience; they just didn't have the right bike. (The place I did buy from had excellent customer service, in depth sizing, and shared knowledge to get me the right bike. Today I spent $250 MORE than intended because of the extra help and knowledge they gave me.) read more

My daughter brought her bike to Ray's after saving up money for months to replace her tubes and to get the puncture resistant sealing. They said they were about a week on labor and she just looked at them and they said, "We'll get this done today for you miss." She was a very happy camper. This morning I dropped off my Specialized Roubaix. I'm new to cycling and needed new brake pads and new hydraulic braking fluid added to my bike. A young man by the name of, what I believe was, Collin assisted me. He was very professional, down to earth, and took the time to explain what items I needed (new chain) and how long it would take. I was quoted a price that I think was very fair. I didn't feel as though Collin or the business were trying to "find" things wrong with the bike to up-charge me and get more money. Overall, this review is for first impressions and customer service so far that I received this morning. Looking forward to getting the bike back and getting out on the road. I am new to biking. At least new to having a bike better than one you buy at Walmart. So I did my research beforehand and had an idea of what I wanted. I went in and talked to a great worker there that showed me what I was looking for. Helped me make sure it was the right size bike for me. Answered all my questions about it and explained all the parts to me. Next he asked me what I wanted to use the bike for and showed me a different model that would have saved me a couple hundred bucks just so I had options. I appreciated that. They let me take my original choice for a test ride. It was great. What was better was when I got back, I see the sales guy and the owner talking with my wife and 3 month old. Just chit chatting while I was on my ride. Treating me and my family like that was the final straw that turned me into a customer for life. On a side note, (a big side note) their prices were better than I found at most places and the perks of buying there were just a huge bonus. read more

This is a pretty cool shop, they really know their stuff and have a big workshop in back. They have a few locations so their inventory is good. Ray knows an insane amount about what he does down to the physics of it. My only nag is one of their staff snubbed me a bit when I came in to see if I could buy an entry level Allez E5. They didn't have a frame size for which I thought I might be (the whole point of going to a LBS is to support local business and get sized properly) and the guy stopped there and started helping someone else rather than work with me to find my actual frame size. A bit off-putting since I was standing there ready to spend ~$1000 in bike+gear. So I went to a shop in Davis instead. read more

Pretty disappointed today. My pedal broke while on a ride with the kids. Limped it over to Rays in vv to buy new pedals and hopefully borrow a wrench to switch them out. Clerk said it was store policy to not lend tools out for repairs. Makes it hard to support a local brick and mortar when your willing to spend a little more to get the customer service. At this point I would of been better if lumping it home instead of to Rays and just bought it on Amazon! read more

I must say, after reading all the other reviews I am a bit jealous that everyone else seemed to be treated so well by the friendly staff. I, unfortunately, was not as fortunate. Perhaps it was because I was still wearing my yoga clothes and didn't look like a serious cyclist? Anyway, I walked into the store today with $800.00 in cash to spend on a new mountain bike. I realize this will not get me a high end bike, but I'm a runner simply wanting a mountain bike to cross train. The salesgirl didn't even get up out of her seat or move to help me or show me the bikes. As she listened to me explain how i was interested in comparing the Specialized bikes she had in stock, she seemed annoyed that I wasn't exactly knowledgeable about all the different bike components. Eventually, she referred me to a salesman, who was clearly helping another customer. I then just stood there at the counter awkwardly, and the saleswomen just stared across the room. After waiting about 5-7 minutes, I said I'd come back later. I honestly am debating whether I will go back, and sadly I didn't get to buy a bike today. Such a sad sad story :,( ... I bought a specialized bicycle a few years ago, turns out the bike has a defect in the frame. The frame has a lifetime warranty and I still have the original receipt. This store contacted the company and now Ray's Cycle wants to charge me $350 in labor to fix something I never broke in the first place. read more

Other shops might be more convenient. Nothing like Ray's, though.
