TLDR; a little bit pricey but great food service and ambiance! Yea, it's a little pricey and the bread is not complimentary haha. If you can get past that, it's an awesome time and a great date spot. There is a longgg wait around dinner times usually but don't give up if you don't have a reservation! If it's just two of you, sitting at the bar is always a way shorter wait time and still really comfortable! They also have a very decently sized outdoor seating, and a door to order take-out from. They take your number and text you, took about 10 minutes to sit at the bar on a Friday night at 6:30. No parking but I've been able to find street parking pretty easily, and there's a $10 lot pretty close by if nec. Ok to the food, it was awesome! Lots of fun unique options for the pizzas, and they have a butter flight basically that you can get with the bread (salted, a Brie-chz like, and a blue chz butter, don't quote me on this, I'm trying to remember the very thorough explanation the bartender gave!). The place gets so much hype and recognition that I was hoping to not like it, but it really is that good! Lucky enough to book a last minute reservation (it is somewhat difficult to book a reservation) and got the bread and butter appetizer, which seems basic but is actually really really good and 2 pizzas. We got the pepperoni and the seasonal corn pizza. Both pizzas were amazing but the pepperoni definitely is the winner. HIGHLY recommend! Currently they're takeout only and we got the following to try: -Meatballs: perfect texture and flavor, with a huge dallop of ricotta cheese and well-balanced tomato sauce. -Country loaf: good crust, nice chew, it's a beautiful loaf of bread. -Guancia pizza: tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, guanciale, pecorino. I really like how balanced their tomato sauce and it plays well with the rest of the ingredients. Although it's in Jersey City across the Hudson, the New York Times famously generated a stir in 2017 by proclaiming Razza to be the best pizza in New York. That glowing review, coupled with a buddy ranking it as his personal favorite pie (despite only having eaten takeout from there), landed Razza high on my restaurant bucket list. Outside, Raza has a Parthenonian awning on the first floor of a classical, light brick building. The interior is sleek and modern with an industrial bent. A marble ordering counter, a petite dark-wood bar, and many shelves of freshly baked bread decorate the left, while a faux leather half-booth wraps around the exposed studs and whitewashed brick to the right. The remainder of the room heavily features accent lighting and light wooden finishes. Trendy lo-fi music mixes softly with the chatter of patrons. A few friends and I arrived right when Razza opened for Sunday late lunch, and the space was already buzzing with guests awaiting their takeout. Tables were almost entirely cleared out of the center of the room, foreshadowing the takeout-only service. With strollers and small children a-plenty, the restaurant immediately felt approachable and unpretentious. We quickly logged an order for 3 Neapolitan pizzas: the Burrata, the Margherita, and the seasonal Potato Pie. The hostess took my name and phone number, promising that I would receive a text within half an hour signaling my order's completion. We grabbed some booth seating, and sure enough, I was handed 3 pizza boxes after about 20 minutes. Each personal-sized pie sported a thin, perfectly charred, leopard-spotted crust. I'm by no account a crust connoisseur, yet I found myself devouring even the springy cornicone plain with delight (although it certainly would have benefitted from a side of olive oil or red sauce). My favorite pie was the burrata, highlighted by rich dollops of the eponymous cheese and bursts of vibrant tomato sauce. My only criticism was that this pizza was not as piping hot as the other two pies. The margherita pizza was quite similar but heavier on the cheese and oil, overwhelming the magical subtleties of the sauce. Finally, the potato pie was entirely unique, reminiscent of elevated scalloped potatoes. Even the two pizza purists in our posse were blown away by this more whimsical white pie. The delicate flavor of potato excelled beside globs of rich raclette, although the combination sorely needed a pinch of ground peppercorn. The drinks were no slouch, either, offering a freshness fit for spring. The staff was the perfect combination of efficient and friendly, and interestingly they didn't mind patrons staying indoors to partake in 'zza (just without dedicated table service). The pies run $20-25 each, and an individual can reasonably eat a full pizza. While no doubt premiumly priced, I was left spellbound by the burrata pie. Expertly executed and mesmerizingly delicious, it was quite possibly my all-time favorite Neapolitan pizza. Our friends in Jersey City told us about all the great things they were reading about Razza, so we knew we had to go on a recent visit. We easily made reservations online for 4 of us on a Saturday night. It was a dark and rainy night, so I can't speak much to the exterior of the building, but Razza was easily accessible by foot. The space is pretty small inside, but it feels intimate rather than cramped. The ambience is on par with the intimate feel - it's very modern and clean with mood lighting and a great view of the pizza oven. It was a Saturday night, so it was busy and a little loud, but to be expected. Our server was attentive enough to us throughout the night, and he provided helpful suggestions as we asked, which is always appreciated. The menu is compact, telling me that what they do make, they make well. I have no qualms with this since it makes decision making easier! We started off with beer on tap, pleased that they had a variety of local options. Based on Yelp reviews, we split the meatballs with ricotta and the ceci. The meatballs were tasty - the meat of the balls themselves were standard fare, nothing too crazy, but I did love the meld of the flavors with the ricotta on top. The ceci were also pretty standard - we make a lot of chickpea dishes, and I feel like this is something we could easily replicate, so it lacked that "wow" factor. Of course, the pizzas are what brings Razza it's fame, so we were excited to try a few. With the help of our server, we opted for the santo with sausage, onions, and chili oil and the eggplant supersalt with fresh moz, eggplant, ricotta salata, and basil. The crust was perfectly crispy to my liking and had the right touch of char on it. The flavors of the santo were a tad better than the eggplant - while the supersalt was a unique addition, I felt like it was missing some flavor. Maybe if the eggplant was more roasted, the flavors would have stuck out more? I did love the addition of the ricotta salat (not something I see often on pizza) and the fresh basil, though - a very fresh pie! The sausage on the santo was nicely flavored, and the onions and the chili oil provided a nice sweet and spicy balance. It was well done! Despite my slight criticism, the pies at Razza did deliver and we enjoyed them! I had my eyes on the Di Natale, but no one in my group was as interested in the raisins and pine nuts as I was ... so we'll have to return another time! The prices for Razza are reasonable, ~$20-25 for a pie that serves 2 people comfortably and that sources fresh local ingredients. The quality is certainly high, and I love that they use seasonal ingredients to make unique pies. Haven't been here in a while since they renovated, but love coming here. Definitely an upscale pizza place. The sister restaurant to Arturos in Maplewood, razza doesn't disappoint when it comes to its thinly sliced, wood fire pizzas. The menu here mainly focuses on pizza while Arturos has a more extensive menu including pasta. The interior is Sammy and has limited seating but includes a few bar seats. There's some outdoor seating but I believe you can only sit there for take out (didn't seem like there was waitstaff out there to serve). It gets super busy so highly recommend making a res or doing take out. The pizzas are personal-sized but my fiancé and I were able to share one pizza with a drink and be satisfied. All the pizzas are good if you don't mind a few of the burnt bits from the wood fire pizza. I still prefer Arturos to Razza, but Razza makes sense in the jersey city area vs. the suburbs for Arturos. Hearing about it for years. Even stopped by while I was in the neighborhood a few times only to find it closed or a long line. Finally ordered ahead the second they opened and started heading their way. Food was ready when we got there and we grabbed the two available seats at a communal table to give them a try. I wasn't blown away. Having lived in Italy for a few months, I know what life changing pizza can be, and this seems to miss the mark. The crust can be a bit dry and flavors are underwhelming. We had the guancia and the di natale. The real showstopper was actually the meatballs. They are covered in ricotta and melt in your mouth delicious. I'm going to keep watching the menu. Funghi pie There isn't much I can say about these pies that hasn't already been said in the 1,000+ reviews here. BUT I can say that their crust is GREAT and everything was under seasoned. Butter needed salt. Pizzas needed salt. Once we asked for salt, pepper, chili flakes (and were also given house made chili oil) the pizzas were ELEVATED. But I was lost on the beet salad not actually being salad. And the Bread and Butter item shouldn't be the thing I wanted more of by the end of the meal. The guancia pizza was very good, perhaps a bit too much pecorino for my liking. The pizza here is made Neapolitan style and Razza absolutely crushes it. The thin crust is the perfect density and crunchiness! For dessert was an excellent salted caramel panna cotta. The good - light, good crisp, portion, not soggy, and tasty enough. The not so good - at least for our visit, the flavor of the bread/crust was just missing something, maybe not as flavorful/salty as I would have liked, portions of the crust was burnt and just didn't eat it / a waste, and the bottoms of the slices left my hands all dusty from the extra flour residue. The meatballs with ricotta were excellent. They were soft and very flavorful. I highly recommend getting this dish, and saving the sauce to dip the pizza crust in (because the pizza crust/bread was just lacking flavor). For a cocktail, I had the Cappelletti Crush - properly made, tasty, and refreshing. So good, I had to order a 2nd one. Ambiance of this restaurant is definitely a winner. And the service was also pretty good - they were attentive, friendly, and quick. Final thoughts - if this place was in a small city far from a major area that offers abundant choices for pizza, this may be a 4 star pizza. I've been to Razza sometime ago when it was in the smaller original space, but this was our first time visiting the new and improved space. Firstly it's great that you can now make reservations. The space itself is a pleasing blend of modern minimalism and rusticity. The host was lovely and accommodated our request for a comfortable table (my husband has a leg disability) and our table was ready at 8.15 which was our reservation time. The waiter was friendly and efficient but we felt that we were a little rushed- we had an initial wait for food - that's okay good things take time - but we had a bus boy try and remove our pizzas at one point (tbf I think he confused the table numbers) but then our original waiter asked us if we wanted dessert when we were each still eating our final slices of pizza which I'm not okay with. Nobody offered drink refills or asked how things were throughout the meal. We were finished, paid up and out the door at 9.20, so we weren't dawdling. The pizzas were okay, I'm not really getting the hype though and haven't in the past either- they are good but not that good. The crust is tasty and of a good texture and consistency but it does toughen up a little as it cools. We ordered the Fungi and Santo pizzas. The Fungi topping tasted bland and the Santo tasted mostly of Chili Oil. I like it when the topping is distributed evenly across the pie but it was done so a little unevenly. There's a decent selection of cocktails and wines by the glass but I thought the beer selection was pretty limited - especially as that's the go-to drink for pizza in Italy. I am ashamed. I had been to this place a million years ago and although it was great, I 'Meh'd' it, and figured I'd eventually go back. Bread came to the table. Huge slices with a gentle crispy crust. If bread can be sexy, this one was. A lil plate came out with a smear of butter, perfect consistency to make that bread's acquaintance. Meatballs with Ricotta (Fire roasted pork & beef meatballs with ricotta). Awwwwesome texture, flavor, in some beautiful sauce, (I think I mumbled, "That's a beautiful beautiful sauce"). The ricotta was just enough, and showcased in the center, tasty with the meatballs and a hunka bread. I almost forgot to share it. Burrata Pizza (Crushed tomatoes, burrata, garlic, basil). I wasn't in the mood for pizza, but after I tasted that sauce, I figured, why let my friend be obligated to eat allll that pizza. I took a slice. Yums! Simple elegance; the sauce was the star, the garlic was the finisher, cheese and basil hugged it with love, and the crust was incredible. After hearing so much about this place, a group of us made our way to their window front, placed an order for a few different pies, a kale salad, and popped a squat at their outdoor dining tables distanced on the sidewalks. While the pizzas are decent, for the price and out of the way location, I would say it's pretty overhyped. Kale salad is slightly dressed with some caesar salad and is nothing more than some roughly chopped kale with a few pieces coated in dressing. Pizza is similar to the type of brick fired pizza you would find out at food trucks and cideries. Chewy, slightly charred thin crusted pizza with sweet tomato sauce and quality toppings. We had an amazing time at Razza. We had a 6 pm reservation but showed up early. We were able to grab a drink at the bar and it wasn't too crowded yet. Drinks were delicious- Sergio was a great bartender. We were seated and had wonderful service throughout the night. We started with the polenta, meatballs, and butter flight. The bread was phenomenal!! Everything was so good! Next we had an amazing off the menu calzone that had phenomenal flavor -clams, leeks etc. next was our pizza course. We got the margarita, the santo and another that I can't remember - all the pizza was so so good! Dessert.. of course. Tiramisu was phenomenal- and I don't even like tiramisu ...
