Rick is very helpful. I haven't spent one penny on his services, but I can already tell he is your go-to guy for handyman work. I contacted him this morning about an odd problem. I bought a new home and a new washer and dryer to go with it. These are on the second floor, installed by the retailer who sold the WD combo (Fry's). But Fry's would not install the pedestals for the WD combo because they were on the second floor. I called the manufacturer (Whirlpool) to find out more, and they confirmed that the washer would not "perform as intended" (whatever that means) on the second floor. The only specifics the representative acknowledged were excessive vibration and noise. But there was no explanation of why the pedestals shouldn't go in if the WD combo were already in. Here is where I called Rick. I explained the situation to him, and he had me take pictures of the area and send them to him. He instructed me to perform a "test" of sorts (just smacking the floor with my ear to it) to get a better understanding of how solid the floor is upstairs. He gave me his professional opinion after seeing the pictures and hearing my assessment of the floor. At this point, I may or may not have the pedestals installed, though I am leaning toward "no." This is the kind of third-party, objective information I was looking for. I still don't have my pedestals in, but maybe that's a good thing. We had a dual pane window that was broken, a fence gate that needed to be adjusted, and door that wasn't closing properly. Rick was quick to respond with a quote and actually suggested that we use another vendor to replace the glass on the broken window (saving us a lot of money by not having him replace the entire window). On the day of the job, the technician called and said he couldn't come because he was sick. After some back and forth, Rick stepped in and said that he would get things taken care of the next day. So sorry to write this review. I have used RB handyman in the past. They've always been great. I called to ask about an above ground pool we were thinking about and possibly a deck around it. I called and set up an appointment. I'm not going to mention names. The man came out. He was nice enough but definitely got the feeling I was putting him out. Then we started talking about painting my kitchen cabinets. Then he said "well if we do it I'll have to do it on a weekend and charge you a lot of money. " he referred me to another contractor? Unsure why as I thought they were contractors? I called the contractor they referred me to Just to find out their estimate was quite expensive in my opinion. Then I called RB handyman back. I talked to the person who answers the phone and called the man who came originally came out. Long story short and few phone calls later and texts to the man who came out originally. He said, "just so busy" ya he finally sent me an estimate. I guess I felt like he was doing me a favor. Just not a good experience. read more

We needed to recaulk our leaking shower, repair some dry wall, and replace 4 tiles in our shower room that were already demolished and ready for repair. Very simple job that was done poorly. The contractor, Frank, came out and gave us an estimate for the job and said it could be done in one day, but you should know the job needs at least 2 days to complete because the tile needs to be set correctly and dried. The technician, Danny, came out unprepared for the job, as he did not have his tile saw, so we decided to help him out by letting him use our personally owned tile saw. He then proceeded to perform the job in one day and when it was finished, the tile came out crooked because of the inexperience of the technician, and the poorly estimated job duration by the contractor. After asking the contractor/technician about fixing the crooked tile, they said the job was approved and complete after signing off on the days work and could not be renegotiated to fix the misaligned tile. The technician, Danny; agreed to fix the tile on his own time, however displayed a lack of communication skills during the negotiation. All in all, we were not able to get the crooked tile fixed and are unsatisfied with the job. 5 months later, this service wanted to come back and fix the crooked tile in order to make things right. Upon removal, we found that the leak that was supposed to be fixed from the shower caulking; was not addressed as expected. So we STILL, currently have a leaky shower enclosure and a tile to be placed straight. TL;DR: I would not recommend this service to anyone, as they are unprofessional and perform low-quality projects while being sub-par with their communication skills. I dislike writing poor reviews but felt compelled to review this deal. I contracted RB for cabinetry work. I felt the quote was high but resources are scarce and I really wanted to use a professional for the job since they should know how to make the job look right. After the first attempt, it was obvious that this was not the level anyone would expect (except for the sub-contractor). Cuts were done without a guide and therefore crooked nor square (off by up to 1/4"). There were over cuts that were not even filled in until I asked and I would have hoped would not have happened at all. The same person come out twice more. We hired Rick to repair our walls that have been damaged during water heater leak and to apply epoxy coating on the garage floor. Rick came on time for the estimate, worked with us on the schedule and finished everything in the contract ahead of schedule. What set him apart is the following: the epoxy coating in the garage was uneven. When I mentioned this to him, he stopped by the same day and immediately offer to re-do the floor at no charge. We hired Rick to bring our 1980's cookie-cutter condo into the 21st century by taking out the horrible fluorescent kitchen light and installing nice recessed lighting. The thought of looking at the "grow light" even one more day was making me ill and happily, Rick was able to squeeze me into his schedule without a problem. He and his team were very neat and tidy. Each day, they put up fresh plastic sheeting and paper to protect the floor and at the end of the workday, they would take it all down, clean up and sweep so that we would have a useable kitchen. This is the perfect example of why I would use his services again. Both Rick and Frank put in long days to be sure to finish on time so we wouldn't be inconvenienced any more than necessary. Couldn't agree more with all the five star ratings! Got a call back from Rick within minutes after I left a voicemail to arrange for an estimate to repair/replace multiple sections of planking on our back yard fence that were rotted at the bottom. Amazingly Rick said he had some already in our neighborhood who could come by within the next hour. He also was very upfront by saying that if we accepted the estimate/proposal, they wouldn't be able to start for three weeks due to their current workload, in case we needed it repaired sooner. I appreciated his honesty and said it wouldn't be a problem. Frank showed up within the hour and was very personable and obviously knowledgeable. After inspecting the fence he suggested that the best and most economical fix would be to replace the 1x1" runners at the bottom of both sides of the fence with 2x4" pressure treated boards. Not only was this the cheapest option but it would hold up for many years... No trying to suggest a more costly solution! On the scheduled date Danny showed up right on time. He was very polite and personable. He reviewed the scope of work to be sure it was right. He went right to work and was later joined by Scott, who also was very polite and personable. Both of them did a great job of making the fence repairs and even upgraded some runners that weren't in the scope of work because they had some extra material....very classy! Guillermo P. I recently purchased a new GE Profile 28 cubic feet Refrigerator because our old unit Broke . Once Airport Home Appliance delivered the unit both me and my wife immediately noticed that the Ref was sticking out by 6 inches because of its size. I contacted Ric and explained to him we needed to move back the wall by 5/6 inches and move the water line as well as the electrical outlet. I sent Ric pics of the Ref/Kitchen and he sent Frank over for a Estimate within 24 hors I received a professional estimate which I accepted. Frank mentioned to me he would put his best man on the Job Don and his assistant Miguel. This by any means was not easy project in fact it was a gamble because we had no idea what was behind the Wall so Demo was done by Don and Miguel first class work from laying out the professional paper and rug to protect flooring . We got Lucky we missed hitting any major structural damage. The Demo - moving wall 5 1/2 " back water line electrical done , stucco and painting all completed in 2 days and now we have a flushed beautiful 28 CFT GE Profile Refrigerator we are so happy that we decided to change all our Appliances the job that RB Handymen with Ric and his Team ( Frank , Don and Miguel ) did saved my Kitchen Cabinet which I love and so I can say is Thank you for a Job Well done on time work and delivered as promise. This is a review for Rick and his field manager Frank. We have a rental house in Moraga that after the tenant moved out, there was a laundry list of things that needed to be fixed. When I first initially called Rick, he promptly called me back and was very up front about when he can start work on my projects. I texted the photos of some of the things that needed to be repaired and he said those could be fixed. 2 weeks later he met us at the house and we walked through the list of items that needed repair. And as we are walking through the house, he just fixed whatever he could on the spot. No charge. He was clear, fair, and since he helped a lot of landlord repair a lot of rentals, recommended us what should be repaired and what should be left alone. And at the end of the appointment, he gave us a price quote. For a long list of things, we thought it was fair. At the appointed day, his field manager Frank went out to patch and repaint walls, install towel racks, mend two badly damaged kitchen cabinet doors, fixed all the wheels on the closet doors. We were pleased with the result. And even after we had questions about the paint, Frank made a special trip to meet me at the house to address my concerns. Overall, this is as good as a handyman could get. I wished he lived on the Peninsula!! We would definitely call Rick again for repairs for this rental home. My bathroom remodel is perfect. Richard tore out the old carpet, replaced the subfloor, and installed waterproof laminate. He ripped out the old vanity (which was at least 30 years old) and replaced it with a vanity with double sinks and a marble top. This required replumbing the bathroom to accommodate the second sink. We called them for finish work (tile, texture, baseboards, crown moulding) for what turned out to become a major repair of a gas fireplace install gone wrong. Every surface of the fireplace frame was out of square, not level or straight. Our hope was to see if it could be repaired cosmetically and not have to tear the whole frame out and start over. The company was able to do everything on my list which included changing out a wall switch, putting up a new security light, fixing the broken hinge on my attic ladder, tearing out a bench seat and preparing the space for my new TV.
