Yes, the cover was too large, and ordered according to your measurement, both for the cover of pergola top, and side shade on west side of my pergola. 2. The first "handyman"came out, did a sloppy, unfinished looking job, and told me he would repair, and replace sliding screen to my patio. Yes, my pup walked through, I removed sliding screen in order to repair mesh. Your employee said he would repair, I was grateful, and expressed such to him. When someone says REPAIR, silly me, I assume that means REPAIR, not just put the screen back on with mesh disconnected (which is what he did!). In what world, and to whose understanding does that constitute a REPAIR??? 3. When I called to request a come back, your scheduler, don't remember her name, was rude, disrespectful, and argumentative by talking over me, not allowing me to fully explain, and only when I said, "if you want to continue to speak over me, I will be happy to share this experience with anyone seeking my opinion". She calmed down, allowed me to speak, but frankly the damage was done. I asked to have you call me back, you did, came back out, looked at the job and agreed the job was less than satisfactory. You had another handyman come out and tidy up the original install on the cover. He did, was friendly, apologetic, and completed the job appropriately for what YOU told me to order both for the cover, and side shade. To reiterate, I ordered based on your measurement and advice on what size to order. The shoddy install by your "handyman", treatment by your phone person, cost of provided materials, and installation costs, inappropriate "fix" of screen cost me 1200.00. So, I will not allow you to make it sound like I am seeking something for nothing, but I do expect professionalism for services rendered and paid for, and I will caution anyone considering your business. Let me start off this review by stating that both my husband and I are very handy and do most of the work on our home ourselves. I am also a construction project manager...so to say I am selective about who works on my house is an understatement. We had some extensive dry rot on our house that we needed to get repaired in order to paint our house but we just never had the time and needed to hire someone else to just get it done. I reached out to Rick in the summer 2021. I explained the situation over the phone and we made an appointment. He showed up right on time. I had done my due diligence and did my own take off and estimate prior to meeting with Rick so I knew what it would cost etc. He wrote up a very detailed quote and got it back to me with in 3 days!!! (Unheard of if you're a working general contractor.) The quote was within 10% of what I originally priced out myself. Unfortunately we had to push it out and ended up calling Rick to come back out for a requote in Dec with a laundry list of add-ons. Believe it or not Rick actually talked us out of the add-ons (in an educated way) and guided us to focus on the main scope of work first which was the exterior dry rot repair. It was refreshing to work with a general contractor that is clearly educated on how to build and also not a snake oil sales man that is just trying to make money off of uneducated home owners like some other general contractors out there. We got on the schedule and his team showed up right on time. Upon mobilization I noted additional areas that I wanted repaired and Don (his foreman) wrote up the change order there on the spot and got Rick to approve it so we could continue with the work that day. And again...something rare...the change order was not a price gouge. It was legitimate cost of added materials, labor, and fee. I approved it immediately. The craziest part of this whole thing is that we had the dry rot repair done in DECEMEBR. Yep, the rainy season. Rick forewarned us the schedule might slip and being in construction I assured him we understood. His team created a group text and kept us updated daily for a morning check in and an end of day check in regarding plans for the next day. We never felt out of the loop and they were able to complete all the scope of work in about 7 business days! (including the change order work). Another thing to point out is their attention to detail. How you set up a job is how the client will perceive the quality of work. His team was extremely clean. During the day and at the end of the day they walked the exterior of the house to remove any nails or wood and swept. Each day everything was wrapped up and taken off site. I never had to worry if our new puppy or my 4 yr old was going to get hurt. Finally, on the last day we did our punch walk and there were only a few minor items. I think if you weren't in construction one would not have noticed it so that's a testament to their quality of work. They got the needed materials and came back and his guy fixed it THAT DAY. If you're looking for a general contractor that tells it to you straight, gives you an honest price, and stands by his commitments, then look no further. We have a lot more work coming up for Rick and his team and can't wait to get them back on site. read more

I've used RB Handyman twice now in the past couple months. A dry rot repair to our chimney in December, and now a very complicated water leak just this week. The tech that came out wasn't the actual owner of the business...maybe because it was such a small job. All that being said, we were satisfied with what Richard completed. Replacing our sliding glass door handle along with putting up new weather stripping for the winter (everyone should do this!). Richard called to let us know that his job finished up early and he could come to do our job early, or he could come at the original appointment time. The other day our neighbor pointed out a part of our roof looked to be sagging. I called a few roofers out to investigate and they said that the trusses and supports inside the attic space was not strong enough for the roof and that I would need a general contractor. The builder of the home did not support the plywood properly! I called at least 5 different contractor companies and RB Handyman was the only one that called me back. That very next day they had someone come out and look. He provided me a reasonable quote and described in detail what needed to be done. I felt very confident that they new what they were doing. Very poor customer service (other than the woman in the office). They did not care about the quality of work that was done. I had a retractable screen installed for the front door. When I wasn't happy with the quality of the installation, I was told by both the installer and the supervisor that "it was the best we could do." When the supervisor agreed to send someone out to remove what was installed, he and the owner backtracked the following day and said they would no longer be sending anyone out. read more

Contracted them a little over a year ago to repair cracks in the drywall in ceiling and walls and some trim around the front door. Response and estimate were quick and clear. He had some other guys do the work. Everyone was friendly. Work was mostly satisfactory at time of completion. (Annoyingly, the person repairing the ceiling had removed insulation from the attic and not put it back, so had to do that after he was done). Work was costlier than I'd have imagined to repair 2 cracks and the threshold of our door, so I'm not thrilled that the cracks are back. read more

He told me that unfortunately he doesn't service the area I live here in San Ramon (and that Yelp for some reason shows their company in areas outside of the Oakley area were they are based). When we bought our house the previous owner left us with their DirecTV dish. We left it in place because we weren't sure if we'd need it, but after a few years it was just an eyesore that needed to go. Problem was that it was mounted at the roof line on the 2nd story and removal wasn't in my DIY bag of tricks. RB gave us a quote and got it down, patching the stucco so you'd never even know it was there. Then a couple of months later we had a flood in our laundry room that we needed to make sure wasn't caused by plumbing leaks. RB came out to remove two sections of drywall from the garage ceiling so we could get a look (and dry everything out completely). After a couple weeks they came back to install new drywall good as new. Their workers are friendly, polite and skilled. I was particularly impressed with the guy who installed the new drywall. He put up plenty of protective sheeting even though it was a garage he was working in and left not a speck of mess or dust behind. Definitely on our short list when we need work done. read more

We had the best experience with RB Handyman Services! Prices were very reasonable and we got a detailed estimate letting us know exactly what each item on our list would cost. We had a huge list of projects to complete, including disconnecting and reconnecting plumbing, electric, and appliances in our kitchen and bathrooms. It was so convenient to be able to get everything completed by one company rather than calling out a separate contractor for each item. The quality of the completed work was top-notch and the attention to detail was impressive. Our under-sink pipes were a complete mess before, taking up the entire cabinet and running in every direction. They are so streamlined and well-assembled now. It would have been very easy to just reassemble them in the haphazard condition they were found, but they took the time to make sure it was done properly and use quality materials. Some of the work was made more difficult because of idiosyncracies in the way our house was built, but they found ways to make it work rather than just telling us it couldn't be done. We also had a couple of chandeliers that we needed installed. We had spoken with electricians who wouldn't work on our 20 foot ceilings, but RB Handyman was able to get it done. One of the chandeliers ended up being way heavier than I had expected, and I have no idea how they managed to get it all the way up there, but they did it! We will definitely be using RB Handyman for our future projects. They went above and beyond what we expected. Instead of just doing the bare minimum, they completed the work in the way I would have done it if I had the skills to do so. We used RB again this year for fan installation in an in-law unit where we have tenants and replacement of some electrical outlets as well as installation of a fireplace gas insert that was a bit tricky. Same great communication, same great service, same great quality of work and cleanup of the work areas. The fireplace insert was a pain and after it was done I noticed I may not have been clear on what I wanted but the handyman didn't have an attitude about having to do a do-over and rapidly went to the hardware store and quickly got it to where I wanted it. They hire good people that do good work and that are reliable and show up on time - something you may not get with an unlicensed 'someone-so' who is not insured and may not have the appropriate skillset to do your particular job. read more

Hired RB handyman to fix my hot water heater, and add a new circuit in my garage, and a few other things. While cutting the sheetrock to add the electrical line, the gentleman cut into my 220 wire that was coming into the garage. When I walked into the garage I noticed the line was taped up with electrical tape. I had to ask what happened, he did not tell me. That is a huge problem not only because he didn't tell me but because I am concerned for my safety. This has been very disturbing to me because I don't know much about electrical and that's why I called them to do the job. I assumed they were sending a licensed electrician, which he was not. That's my bad for not making sure. Will the electrical tape last for the remainder of the house or will I have to replace the 220 down the road. I did call with my concerns, and Frank came out and assured me everything was safe. I don't feel safe!!! read more
