I scheduled him to come today between 10 -11 but to my surprise, he didn't show up. his excuse was that he can't come earlier and he can't come during that time because he will run into the other vendor who was also coming. when I asked him to come later he said he can't. I then asked if he can come anytime today and he said no. the point is that I was at the house since 8am and he could have texted me and said he can come earlier (later he said that he was free in the morning). When I called him, he said he would call me back in a few minutes, which he never did. Since I really wanted to work with the guy, I called him back on a different day and he said he would show up in an hour to discuss the project and provide an estimate. Joe and his amazing crew tore out our old, cracked concrete and replaced it with beautiful concrete that has the neighbors jealous! Joe replaced our porch, driveway, walkway, back patio and steps. When we had budget and design issues, he was flexible and helped us through the process. We got 3 bids before starting the work. Joe gave us a fair price and offered his expertise in the planning phase. He suggested we add coloring to the concrete to give it an aged look and bands around the driveway and porch for aesthetics. We included his ideas and hired him on the spot. He gave us a start date 2 1/2 weeks out and said it would be a 4-day job. On day 1, Joe showed up with a massive crew! They tore out the old concrete and set all the forms on that first day. Joe and his brother Eddie were on site making sure the job went smoothly. When I came home that afternoon, they had some ideas on the layout and lighting that they shared and we adjusted the plan on the spot. On day 2, all of the concrete was poured by 10am. It was nuts. The neighbors were stopping by to pay compliments and request business cards before lunch. On day 3, Eddie was back with a small crew to put everything in its place and walk the job with me. I'm a pretty picky person, but I couldn't find anything to complain about ;) Our job was finished ahead of schedule and exceeded our expectations!! This project had a couple of issues (what project doesn't?) that came up along the way. I had to keep asking for the contract, but that was mostly for my peace of mind. I found that Joe got defensive when he thought I was asking him to do something outside the scope of the contract. It was more of a communication issue that was easily resolved by calling instead of texting. Joe handled everything in the end. He even dealt with my grouchy neighbor who blamed the Rodriguez crew for breaking his sprinklers- they didn't. The guy has busted sprinklers. We would hire Joe again without hesitation. We already recommended him to our friends and neighbors, so if you want to hire him, you'd better call and get on his schedule!! read more

I am so pleased with all the work done by Rodriguez Concrete. I initially only planned on having some old brick removed from both sides of my driveway and replaced with concrete and I ended up also getting artificial turf installed. I am completely satisfied with both jobs that I hired them to do. I do not recommend this contractor. I have managed the construction and renovation on my house before. This one is by far the worse. I hired Joe Rodriguez to remove and level my slightly sloped lawn and pour stamped concrete with a pony wall. I've selected him because he owns his company and does the work himself so I can skip the middleman. I have also seen his works done at my friend's house that seems to fit my needs. In addition, his price was lower than other two bids and he would complete the project in 8 days compared to others that offered 15 days. My friend has warned me that he is very sneaky and will charge you quite a bit if you decided to change anything. Well, I figured if I had a solid plan and clearly indicated in the contract, it shouldn't be a problem. It turned out that he was such a scam. Even we had a contract, he came up with many excuses for delay, change the material to the cheaper ones; and the one that he could not convince you to change, he charge extra for it. If you don't pay, he will stop working and leave you with the half demolished project. Besides expanding my current patio and installing a pony wall with pre-casted cap stones, the project includes sandblasting and staining the existing patio. While the stamped concrete look good, the capstones and stain were disappointing. The work was sloppy with unsightly cuts despite the custom order. For the stain, he had under estimated the quantity needed and must stop in the middle and waited a few days to find additional materials. By then the color has changed so the next batch did not flow well. It had some ugly patches. He supposed to hire a sub to sandblast my old patio for $500 that was included in the contract, but he called me last minutes to tell that I had to find one myself or the project would be further delayed. I found one that charged $650 but he would only credit me for $500. He charged $300 more to order the curve stone even though selected material had been indicated on the contract. If I am not willing to pay the extra, he would have to use straight stones and had many cuts to achieve the curve as planned. For items that he switched to the cheaper ones, he did not give me credit for such as the lights and stamp concrete pattern that he did not have and it would cost him more to rent. My project supposed to last 8 days. It lasted more than two months from the day he said he supposed to start. His first excuse was his uncle was sick in NY so he had to take a week off. Then he had to special order the material I have requested which he knew it was special order from the start but still promised me 8 days. After several weeks of delay, the order came with the wrong size. He blamed it on the supplier. The reorder took 2 more weeks and then it took him another week to come. I had to call him pretty much every day to find out when he could complete my project. I could have sued him for breach of contract but doing so would give me so much stress and faced longer delay with the messy yard. Therefore I just hang in there and get it over with. It has been a very long and unpleasant experience. Please do yourself a favor, hire someone else. read more

I highly recommend this contractor! The Rodriguez brothers came highly recommended from a co-worker that I know has very high standards. I was a bit surprised when a read the YELP review by "Kathy B" however, because my coworker recommended Rodriguez and Kathy's review was a bit contradicting (i.e. she viewed and liked the work at her friend's house and the friend recommended them but she says she was "warned" about them didn't make sense to me.... then why hire them in the first place?), I decided to give them a shot - they were also by far lower in price than contractors that were not even licensed or insured. The rest of this review is very simple: I am so happy I went with my gut and my co-workers recommendation and hired the Rodriguez brothers. Their work is good quality and good price. They even helped me design my driveway and patio and tried to help me make decisions that would ultimately provide me with a great design. They were very patient with me as well because I had a lot of specific and unique design requests. Whenever we made a change to the original plans I sat down with them and talked about cost - they were very fair - most of the time I was only charged additional for materials or if the design change was significant (for example, I had them build steps which was not in the original plan).
