We driven by Chan's so many times that we decided it was time to try somewhere new. We ordered a variety of our staple items for carry to enjoy with the family as we are on the hunt for our go to Chinese take out. The food was bountiful for the prices, and came out quickly. We had the fried rice, walnut shrimp, salt and Pepper tofu, a quart of wonton soup, and peppered beef. Each of these dishes came with a box of steamed white rice. The fried rice was a bit too dry for our liking, but when topped with all the sauce from the various dishes it was fine. The walnut shrimp was fine as well, the shrimps were a bit overdone where they were chewing but the flavors were great. I think my favorite dish was the peppered steak, the only thing is that the green peppers were such huge pieces it didn't fully cook and because the focus of the dish. Overall it was an okay experience, we'd consider trying other dishes on the menu next time. read more

Had lunch at RDK today. Wasn't sure what to expect based on some reviews my wife saw. I was very pleasantly impressed. I would recommend you try this restaurant. I had egg drop soup, egg roll, fried rice and cashew shrimp (cashew shrimp is not on the menu, but they made it for me. The fried rice was not very warm, but I called it to the attention of the waiter and they immediately replaced it with rice that was at the correct temp. Overall, everything was good. Upon approaching the facility was clean. Upon entering the facility was dark and the seating area was closed. Only a few chairs to sit and wait for your order. The gentleman at the counter was very polite and kind. I waited for a short time and then my order came out. Two chicken egg rolls. Nicely packaged. However, I was eating on my auto and I was not provided napkins. These egg rolls had a taste I cannot place, but it wasn't pleasant. I'd try another menu item, but not this one again. read more

Chan's food had the rich, Cantonese flavors reminiscent of Chinatown. RDK is not that. This location is more like mall food. They only offer one size and the food lacks flavor. Everything I've tried has been good: Beef lo mein, beef friend rice, the 'Szechuan shrimp, chicken and beef chefs special', crab rangoons, spring roll, Singapore noodles, 'shrimp and veggies'. Chan's was good Chinese and offered all the usual menu items in a Chinese food style that you might expect. Chan's is gone and RDK is in its place. How unfortunate. Two traditional Chinese dishes were completely unrecognizable, with changes to traditional ingredients and spices from where exactly (? a hint... nowhere near China). We also ordered a vegetable plate because, from the photos, it looked like RDK didn't know what vegetables were other than onions. On top of the bad food, there are Chinese standards like Pepper Steak and Shrimp Lobster Sauce missing from the menu. Bottom line, this was the absolute worst Chinese food I have had in my entire life. We didn't even bother with the leftovers but threw them in the trash immediately after eating the first dinner. Maybe they should consider getting a Chinese chef who is not working hard to reinvent the staples into something inedible. read more

BEWARE!! I ordered the shrimp Subgum chow mein from Chans. I have been eating subgum chow mein for too many years (40yrs) to admit. It was absolutely AWFUL! The paper bag that was delivered to my front porch was dripping all over the porch and down the hallway of my home. I didn't even realize it was dripping at first, because I didn't order soup or anything with a soup like consistently, so I certainly wasn't expecting a leak from the bag. After I got the food into the kitchen and on the counter, I started to unpack it. I thought maybe I had received the wrong order and I had somebody else's order with soup in it. But it wasn't the soup, it was the shrimp subgum chow mein. Yes, my shrimp and vegetables we're just simply swimming in water. I immediately called the restaurant and spoke with some lady who explained to me that it's watery because of the bean sprouts. What do the bean sprouts have to do with making shrimp subgum chow mein? Subgum chow mein is supposed to have a nice, rich, thick opalescent sauce that clings to the vegetables and shrimp. It should also be flavorful. If I wanted steamed shrimp and vegetables in water, that's what I would have ordered. So I asked the lady if I could add cornstarch to thicken up it up, because I know that is how they thicken up the subgum sauce. She says "yes, on the stove, add a little water and slowly add in cornstarch to thicken it up and then add it to the shrimp subgum". I realize that I didn't spend $55 to go to the stove and start mixing together a thickener, in order to have the shrimp subgum chow mein that I initially ordered. I tried to eat it, however it was simply just steamed shrimp and vegetables with no flavor profile at all. I really wanted the flavor of that flavorful thick subgum sauce that every other Chinese restaurant, that offers subgum chow mein, now how to successfully create in their own kitchen. I then tried to call the restaurant the next day, but I didn't realize it was Monday and they were closed, so I waited until Tuesday and reach back out to the restaurant. I spoke with a very rude man. I asked him why it was so waterery and he said "after 20 minutes it gets watery because of the bean sprouts ". Again with the bean sprouts!? I asked why is it that every other Chinese restaurant that I've ordered subgum from, ever after a night in the refrigerator and being reheated the next day, still has a velvety, thick and flavorful sauce clinging to the vegetables and shrimp. He told me that if I don't like their subgum, I should order something different. But I have a better idea! I'll never order from you again, and I will make sure that everybody that I know, is aware of how much your food lacks and how unprofessional, inconsiderate and rude your restaurant is. I reached out to GrubHub too to let them know how dissatisfied I was. I don't often complain but when I spend $55 on takeout Chinese, I want and expect a nice meal, even a decent meal would do. Definitely would have been better off even with Panda Express at this point. So if you want authentic, flavorful, rich Chinese-American food, I would steer very clear of Chan's Chinese restaurant!! read more

The delivery was efficient and timely. The house wonton soup, crabmeat rangoon, shrimp egg foo young and meatless wontons were tasty. The teriyaki chicken sticks were very very salty. The sesame shrimp was also extremely disappointing. It was very heavily breaded and soggy. There was so much breading around a small shrimp. I would not order either item again. The Hunan triple was okay but the amount of large chunks of green pepper they put in overwhelmed the dish. Our final item was cashew chicken. It was good but exactly the same as chicken almond ding, just with different nuts. We will probably look for an alternative place to go. read more

Ordered a veggie egg roll and salt and pepper tofu. Egg roll was meh. Salt and pepper tofu, which I've had before there was supposed to be spicy. It was not spicy. There was no sauce. All I got were tofu cubes that were dry and inedible. I tried putting soy sauce on them but that didn't work. After not eating anything all day Dinner was the meh egg roll and white rice. The fortune cookie didn't have a fortune in it so I wrote my own. You will be disappointed if you go to Chans. I've tried this place at least 7 times. they got it right once or twice. Been a customer for years. Ordered Kung Pao chicken and pepper steak, pepper steak had almost no sauce in it, as you can see from the pic. The kung pao was mostly chopped celery and burned peanuts. You can see in the picture there are both burned and not burned peanuts. The whole dish tasted bad because of this. I had put in the order through grub hub and contacted them, they called Chan's and Chan's said they wouldn't do anything about it. I contacted Chan's myself, talked to a lady who refused to believe me and insisted she see pictures and I had to text her personal number to do so, I wasn't going to text her personal number and let her know I'd be sending the pics to grub hub which I have done. She said hold on, then she comes back and said she went to the kitchen to eat peanuts (bizarre and they are fine so she wasn't really sure what I was talking about. I'm like but the peanuts you have are different than the ones I have... mind you this is already almost a 10 minute phone call. Then some guy gets on and said he wanted to give me a credit for next time but wanted to see the pics too, I said I don't want a credit for next time because I won't return. My friend and I were so excited that Chan's was open last Saturday for lunch, so we called to place our order for the cashew shrimp and chicken egg rolls. The gentleman on the phone was very nice and recommended that we get the lunch special (comes with brown rice. already came with an egg roll, but we order a few extra). He also told us that we could pick up the order in 15 minutes and to call them when we arrived. 15 minutes later, we drove over and called the restaurant. A lady answered the phone and asked us if we wanted to pay cash or credit card. We told her cash. She went out side and placed the food on a cart for us to pick up and she put a bucket out to collect the cash. She was also very nice when we called back asking if we could have change. She immediately came out and placed the changed in the bucket. Man, the food smelled so good! Cashew shrimp: had good amount of shrimp and cashews. It also came with water chestnuts, celery, pea pods, baby corn, and some other veggies in bite size pieces in a nice sauce. The dish tasted very good and was enough to split between two people. The brown rice tasted great too. Loved the chicken egg rolls! This deep fried goodness had such a great crunch and great flavor. I may have eaten two when my friend was not looking. Mixed reviews here on yelp. Heard from a Coworker she loves Chan's so figured we would give it a try! My fave Chinese place has a limited fried-only pandemic menu, and now we have a new fave! First of all, do yourself a favor, ORDER THE POTSTICKERS ANS CRAB RANGOON. The best I've ever had! Hubs had kung pao beef, extra spicy. They delivered on the heat and he loved it. Fresh chopped veggies and all. I had moo shu pork and it was great. Little hint of spice which I loved, most places do a more sweet taste. We will be back! Ordered carry out on a Sunday night. Our food was ready in about 15 mins. The restaurant was empty but clean. We ordered the Hot and Sour Soup, Mongolian Chicken, Garlic Chicken and the Combination Fried Rice. The soup and really oily but delicious. A bit much on the vinegar. The mongolian chicken was okay... a bit sweet to my liking. There is tons of onions in the dish. If you hate onions, do not get it! The garlic chicken was not garlicky at all. There was no garlic taste to it whatsoever. I feel like it was the same dish as the mongolian chicken, minus the onions. The combination fried rice was good though. It has a nice flavorful smell to it. I would recommend going to Yu's in Vernon Hills if you want "authentic" chinese food. read more

Well, to order a shrimp, broccoli and onion, lunch meal, and receiving shrimp and beef combo, the food actually was pretty dang good. The ambience in the restaurant is less than inviting since it's a Buffay restaurant but you can only pick up or deliver. Also, receiving my mail, I didn't have any eating utensils, which wasn't the end of the world, but was really inconvenient. for $14 and some change the food was great, the portion was good. First time ordering and I was not impressed. The lo mein noddles were too soft, tasted like some type of sweet country gravy, and the beef was as soft as the noodles. No good. I had their shrimp egg foo young and sampler appetizer. Apparently the oil it was fried in needed to be changed because it had that awful rancid taste. The foo young patties were Omer cooked which made them chewy and hard. The few overcooked shrimp were dried out like harden pebbles. I should have apprehensive about ordering from Chan's because the last time I ordered this the gravy spoiled the meal. As for the appetizers, they were fried way to hard for my liking and the oily taste was unbearable. The food was great -- Chicken Almond Ding, Shrimp Toast, Fried Wontons with Meat. We had a little disconnect in communication with the server (my friend ordered very clearly, but the server apparently misunderstood) that resulted in the wrong entree being delivered, and with white rice instead of fried. Once that was all straightened out (took about 10 minutes to deliver a new entree, and she opted to just keep the white rice), everything was great. It's very hard to find fried wontons with meat these days, so I'm very appreciative that they have them. The shrimp toast was also very good, if maybe just a little overcooked. I appreciate that they use the more traditional Chinese vegetables in their dishes -- so many Chinese restaurants I've tried recently have started putting bell peppers and zucchini in dishes that never had them before, resulting in dishes being unsatisfactory when delivered and requiring a lot of effort in ordering the next time. Looking through my "junk" mail I found an advertisement piece from Chan's. I decided to read previous reviews on Yelp, but I wanted to try their for myself. Navigating the registration process on their website was a little frustrating between adding my credit card, entering my 3-digit code and getting an SMS text to verify my phone number. It took several times and I finally got it! I reviewed the menu online, at ease, and selected Shrimp Toast, Crab Rangoon, and Shrimp Lo Mien. The prices are amazing and delivery was quick and the driver friendly. First: Shrimp Toast. The pieces instead of being toast points looked like little pieces of toast! I enjoyed the whimsy of that. The item was how I remembered it to be; crunchy, greasy and ding, dang, dong YUMMY! Second: Crab Rangoon. I agree with a previous post. Biting into this item initially was delicious; bit into a section with cream cheese and it tasted like it should be a dessert. The cream cheese was sweet and there was no hint of crab. They should either move this item to "desserts" or rename it to Cream Cheese Rangoon. Third: Shrimp Lo Mien with white rice. The patties were HUGE! They didn't have any seasoning, which is not an issue for me with everyone having different tastes. The Lo Mien was DELICIOUS, the rice was perfectly cooked and I saved some for tomorrow! I have ordered from a couple other restaurants in the area and they both have high dollar order expectations for delivery. I will order again, just not the Rangoon. read more
