Cool store and great vibe. The selection was pretty good but not quite on par with a more established store like Record City. It also seemed to be somewhat over priced as I saw a Rage Against the Machine album and several Metallica albums that ranged from 75.00-150.00. I'm sure they were rare nonetheless or at least I hope they were for that kind of price tag. The shelves seemed to be picked clean of most anything interesting but it was crowded so I assume the good stuff was long gone. I also wanted to gauge how fair the trade-in prices were so I brought a few records with me. They guy at the counter was nice but quiet and I browsed the shelves as he decided on the value of my albums. They were worth about 35.00 collectively (based on Discogs.com) and he offered me 10.00 cash or 15.00 store credit. I'll let you gauge whether or not that offer was fair. If you like vinyl and horror movies this is a place worth the visit. However, make sure you don't do what I did when I first started collecting vinyl - get caught up in the hype of a new shop and overpay for something that's not really that "rare." Yet another reason to love the up and coming downtown La Mesa area. A horror themed local record store? Are you kidding me? Im all about this. A great selection of music that includes hard to find vinyl and discounted cd's . Horror movie DVD's, t-shirts, and memorabilia. A solid selection of books and other collectables. As I walked around taking in the store I over heard a conversation between the owners and a fellow customer....the owners not only seem very nice but very knowledgable as well. WOW WOW WOW WOW!!! All I can say is WOOOOWWWW! So much horror merch, movies, records, books, toys.. I spent a good while here and that says a lot since it is a small shop but so much to look at. Absolutely the most fun, cool and unique place to shop! The owner is incredibly nice and helpful. I don't even know how he is so cheerful and friendly all the time! The shop has expanded to twice the size with one whole room for movies now! There is so much cool stuff here - horror collectables, posters, CDs, vinyl, tapes, stickers, pins, buttons, zines, Amazing selection of movies including hard-to-finds and a great horror section! Movie and music collection sets...there is almost zero chance that you will walk in without walking out with something you love. The prices are great. If you can't find something, Nick will try to order it for you! And there are always racks out front with CDs and movies and other cool stuff for a dollar!! There is a little boutique with retro clothes and knick-knacks in the back now too. It's adorable. Expect to spend a good amount of time browsing. The store feels a bit tight due to so many racks of cool stuff and usually so many customers, which adds to that cool feeling of being somewhere awesome. It reminds me of the old days of Lou's Records, Music Trader..Blue Meanie Records...and Off the Wall records back in the day! Support YOUR Local Record Shop! Stopped in here yesterday for the first time and am incredibly impressed with this shop. I told the owner that it is "The Best thing to Happen to La Mesa Village since I have lived here" (15 years) And I meant it! Was able to fill in a couple holes in my record collection and find some new (to me) artists as well. Great atmosphere and easy to navigate thru the albums. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a Record, 45 or cassette! They also have movies too. He also has boxes and boxes of records that have not gone out for sale yet, so the selection changes often. read more

I came to Re-Animated Records on the 2nd day that they opened back in June 2017. I have been coming back about once a week ever since then. To me, it's more than just a record store. The owners Nick and Lynn have been nothing but kind to my family when we stop in. We got to know them over the last couple years and it's been a great pleasure. It's our number one record store in the greater San Diego area. They carry pretty everything you'd want from a record store. I tend to gravitate towards horror DVDs, cassettes, shirts and CDs. My girlfriend likes the custom spooky dresses/skirts that the owner Lynn makes. Our son likes the various toys they have decorating the walls (horror and other movie related). Basically there's something for everyone here, whether you're an avid record collector or a horror fiend like me. read more

Shiny and chrome! It feels like the world is getting ready for a record shop revival, and I hope this place can ride the wave because they are AWESOME! I love the horror vibe of this place and the fact that they carry all types of media from yellowed old paperbacks to cassettes to rare VHS to freaking laser discs! Makes me wish my VHS player wasn't in storage. They've only been open a couple weeks as of this writing, and though it looks like some CD genres have been picked clean, I can't wait to see their selection swell with mysterious and eclectic discoveries. La Mesa is on the verge of becoming the hip new place to live and hang out now that North and South Parks have become too expensive, so a cool record store like this has the chance to establish itself as a neighborhood staple. I went and visited this record store in La Mesa thought the location was really cool and the store itself had a lot of great selections of records especially punk & metal which I tend to gravitate towards. My only issue with this place is their prices seem to be around 15% - 20% or more higher than many of the other record stores by me like M-Theory & Record City. I'm not sure if the prices for both used and new items are high because there are no other stores within a close distances for someone living in La Mesa but it was somewhat of a big disappointment for someone who generally knows what things should cost at a fair / reasonable price. If you plan on buying I'd check Discogs before purchasing because they are clearly going off the higher end of the pricing scale verse median which most stores do. This is just my opinion and experience so take it or leave it but hope this helps anyone who's interested. read more

This is the perfect record store if you're looking for a wide selection of media. Not only is there a wide selection of music but I'm partial to the cheap movies and buy most of mine there. The shop is constantly restocked and the customer service is great and friendly. I live in Carlsbad but regularly make the trek down to La Mesa, because there is always something that I want, and always something that I buy.
