I own an EV and had gone to a dealership to get replacement cabin filters and a safety inspection. Upon fixing the filters, their mechanics came back with a packet outlining over 2,000 dollars in various repair projects, which initially concerned me greatly. In searching around for a more affordable shop, I was able to get ahold of Re-Born Automotive and speak with John. After describing the issues with my car, John immediately told me, "I can already tell you just took this to the dealership. We've been getting a lot of calls like this one." He briefly explained why the dealership could be incentivized to over-diagnose vehicle issues and promised to go through my car with a fine-toothed comb. He was able to get me in the very next morning without an appointment, and the crew very graciously folded my car's inspection into their incredibly busy schedule. Upon completing the inspection, they informed me that my car, in fact, had a virtually clean bill of health. No brake fluid issues, front control-rod erosion was well within tolerances, etc. Every single "urgent" maintenance issue in the dealership's report was absolutely unnecessary. The team at Re-Born Auto saved me 2,000 dollars, and in the process they secured my business for as long as I'm living in Portland. Re-Born Auto has a 4.9 on Google and an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau for a reason. They're a local, family-owned business with a staff who displayed consummate professionalism and transparency that made my experience with their shop perhaps the single best vehicle appointment I've ever had. Zero complaints on my end. I cannot recommend these guys highly enough. Re-Born Auto should be your first choice for car service if you live anywhere in or around Portland. First time at ReBorn auto, from the time I made the online appointment, to the snow day, calling me to tell me to stay home they would be closed due to so many staff living away from downtown, which I totally get. I have never been treated so fair and not talked down to simply because I am a woman. They also called to tell me to bring it in, they got me in Monday, oil change, full check up, I was super worried about my brakes, they service man behind the desk, Im sorry, your name was John. He explained were it is still safe to drive, but if it starts squeeking, or the brakes seem off, bring it in. He went over diagnostics, Drive Belt, and checking for engine leaks. Talk about honest. He siad he hears from people about the dealerships, well ugh, I just left the business of a dealership, not only did they text, call, email, voice mails. And they wonder why you are not returning their calls, I was aways talked down to, how does a young man barely 19, have the audacity to talk to someone twice his age. There is very little respect these days between people, I sure did respect John for his honesty and not to tell me, I couldnt drive my car, at the dealership my brakes were in the red? This was the worst experience ! I had my jeep towed there after the lady on the phone confirmed that they could help me. They called me the next day saying I was miss informed, and they have to do a $400.00 inspection for drugs since it was broKen into before they can even look at it!!!!! now I have to get my jeep towed to a different mechanic shop. I was beyond satisfied with Re-born, something I rarely say about auto mechanics I've used in the past. A few things stood out most. First off, I told them what I was noticing with the vehicle (very generic things like, having trouble starting, and bad smell after driving short distances). Based off that info, they gave me an exact quote to diagnose those issues along with giving the car a general inspection. Once they found the issues, they called to explain them, then sent me an email where they broke down the cost of repairs into each issue they would fix, along with priority. They pointed out a few issues they suggested fixing right away, along with a few others that were more 'things to keep an eye on'. That level of honesty was so refreshing. Not only that, but once I decided on the repairs to do now, I knew exactly how much money I would be spending. One of the needed parts had to be ordered and was delayed a few days. The folks at Re-born called each day to provide updates. Once my car was finished, I paid what I expected to pay. No hidden or unexpected expenses. No one wants to have their car need fixed, but when it inevitably happens again, I won't hesitate to return. A few days ago my car effectively died on me (it would turn over, but the car would then promptly shut off, with the green immobilizer light coming on). I had AAA tow it to Reborn (a shop I've been coming to for years) and provided them with this same information. The next day I was asked to bring them a spare car key, which thankfully I happened to have (and which I'm kicking myself for not having considered sooner on my own). I brought the key back to the shop, and lo and behold, the car starts up without issue. We then discussed options for getting a new key (which would require either heading out to Gladstone or waiting a day for their programmer to arrive), but in the meantime I was told my bill for the "diagnosis" was $175, not withstanding however much the key would cost to purchase and program. I decided to wait another day for their programmer to arrive and get a key programmed. The next day, I receive a call that he's not in fact able to get a hold of a key (my particular vehicle's key is on national backorder, apparently) and that my only option now is to bring the car to the dealership in Gladstone myself and get a key programmed out there. I was still charged the $175. It's still unclear to me what for. I've loved Reborn and have been coming here for years, but I'm unsure how I'm supposed to feel anything other than fully ripped off after this experience. I will not be coming back. read more

Brought my 2011 toyota camry to re-born March 15, 2022 for an oil change. They informed me that drain and filling the transmission fluid was needed. I approved, without, unfortunately looking at a previous car service receipt from Japanese auto repair that had done the same exact service June 22, 2011 (9 months earlier). The recommendation from Toyota is every 30,000 miles. My mileage change between the two atf changes was about 9,000 miles. They did a similar stunt with my wife's camry. Beware their suggestion that your atf needs to be drained and refilled. (they also charged $171.00 for the fluid where japanese auto had charged $120.00.) read more

Car repair can be as dreadful as going the dentist. Everywhere you go you wonder if you are getting taken advantage of and most times come away feeling like you were. Well worry no longer. I started going to re-born 5 years ago after my car was totalled by an uninsured driver (GRRRR) and I bought my dad's Trooper. Re-born kept it humming along so nicely, with great customer service. A nice waiting room, a excellent shuttle to take you to and from your house or work. The best part is they really do stand behind their work with an 18 month warrenty. We sold the trooper but now take or Honda mini van exlusively to re-born. They have kept it in great shape fixed codes for little or no charge that would have (and have been 100s of dollars with the dealer before). They ALWAYS let me know what is up with the car and the safety check lets me be incharge and keeps my mind at ease for our family's safety. I have had a fair amount of work done on two cars there now. The prices are fair, and the work has been spot on. I found them very conscientious of the customer's budget. One time they gave me a list of needed repairs and went through it with me line by line to help me prioritize so I could get the most important work done now. They take the time to explain the car issues to you in layman's terms. They also have a very quick-turn around for completing their services. Most recently I only waited about 45-minutes for a replaced battery. They are well-staffed and have beautiful facilities. I was referred to Re-born Automotive 5 years ago from another mechanic. I've brought 3 cars to them and they've done a fantastic job with every one. When you walk in the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Also, I've never been in such a nice auto shop waiting room! They really care about the customer experience. Friendly staff, but prices are double what you would pay elsewhere, and the quality isn't any better. They initially wanted $850 for a 60,000 mile service on a 12-year-old 4-cylinder vehicle! I declined spark plug replacement and got it down to $700. This was my own fault, since I agreed to it before the work was done. Still kicking myself for being talked into it by the service writer, who was pushy. You've got to be pretty stupid (and I was) to pay auto techs $100 an hour to flush some fluids and rotate your tires. Found out later that the dealer charges $250 for the same service. read more

Our Heroes. I picked my friend up from the hospital (using her car-she is my care-recipient) and I got on the wrong bridge in Portland and went the wrong way. As I turned around, the car brakes were stuck. It was a Friday about 4pm. We had the car towed to Re-Born and they were closing soon. The men were very kind and we enjoyed coffee and tea in their comfy lobby. Miraculously, the brake issue was no longer. They couldn't find the problem. The car was working fine. They took it for a test drive and tried what they could to get the brake issue to manifest itself. It didn't. They didn't charge us and suggested we drive home slowly and get it checked by her mechanic when we arrive in her city (two hours away). They also gave us tips just in case the brakes locked up again. They could have taken advantage of us as we were in a desperate and vulnerable situation. They did not. Love my shop. Everyone here has always provided fabulous friendly service. I brought my Mitsubishi Eclipse in for service and to fix a start/stall issue. They could not duplicate it and spend a good amount of time try to. They didn't even charge me for the first days attempt. It had to do with the anti-theft mechanism in my engine. My keys with computer chips conflicted with each other. They figured it out, fixed the code error and I was up and running again. The biggest thing I take away from my visit is Mike's empathy for my start/stall issue. They even found a slight leak in my front cam shaft ring and said it was not worth the money to repair. I am new to Portland, so when my 2008 MINI started having issues, it took it to the MINI dealership. I did this immediately when my tire pressure light "(!)" went on and there was , in fact, no loss of tire pressure... but for some reason, the MINI dealership kept the car for a week and could not fix this issue... a few weeks later I started the car one morning to find it was running terribly and reeking of gasoline. I drove it slowly back to the dealer. they kept it for a day and then told me that i needed to have a cylinder rebuilt for something like $5000. At that point a coworker told me to take it to Re-Born and ask for Cliff. So i did. At Re-Born they had no trouble correctly diagnosing the issues and fixing my car for a fraction of the price that I was quoted at the dealership. Specifically, the tire pressure light was due to a bad wheel sensor, and the misfire of cylinder 4 was not at all what the dealer said - instead it was due to a bad fuel injector that was stuck open and flooding the cylinder with gasoline and washing away the oil, etc. THANK YOU, CLIFF! read more
