This is an amazing company, they are honest, good communicators, provide great value for services provided! This is the first company in the area whose techs talked to my wife respectfully and whose front office was very proactive with communication. We had a heat pump issue and they came out very quickly, provided a repair plan, followed up with a reasonable quote and a great timeline without any additional prompting from myself. When they were on site they were respectful, professional and very skilled, our system was restored to proper operation quickly. Real Chill is just plain terrific. Something (lightning in that big storm on July 29?) blew out three control panels on our AC unit. They came fast to diagnose, worked hard to get those tricky parts, answered our questions and offered sympathy when the parts caused a ten day delay. Today all is fixed and happy and much cooler. I like the fact that they allow me to continue to use a technician I know and trust and that knows my system setup. He always quickly diagnoses the problem and is just as quick at repairing it. So 5 stars for service and having excellent technicians. Real Chill charges $100/hr for labor and that's okay with me because their technicians are very good. The markup of Puron (R410A) is too high though, and I'm knocking off a star for that. Puron refrigerant is around $5/lb; Real Chill charges $60/lb. On a recent repair bill I was charged $480 for Puron and $450 for labor. This has happened before when our Trane unit blew all of it's refrigerant. All HVAC companies markup Puron or freon - I have no problem with that. There are real costs associated with obtaining it, maintaining a license, recycling it, etc. Puron is not the same as Freon (R-22) which has really soared in price; the price of Puron is a lot lower and more stable. The price of my lasts two repairs equals the price of simply buying a new unit - half of that cost was the cost of refrigerant. Marking refrigerant costs up by a factor of 12 seems excessive, irrespective of whether other HVAC companies do the same thing or charge more. Next time I need a repair I'll be checking the cost of refrigerant before authorizing any repairs. read more

Real Chill was attentive and timely with getting us a quote for central air within our home during the spring. They were able to install quickly and efficiently so we were able to enjoy before the summer heat kicked in. What a relief! My AC unit had stopped working and unfortunately over the course of a few days my house became a sauna. I called Real Chill on Thursday and was set up with an appointment on Friday, the very next day! Charlie the AC engineer tech arrived on time and got straight to work. Nights are getting chilly, and it was time to turn on the heat. Unfortunately, our heat pump kept shutting off. A provider hired by our home warranty company provided two options for repair: replace a valve and pay $1100 out of pocket for refrigerant or replace the heat pump (outside unit only) for $7200. We decided to call Real Chill for a second opinion. Charlie was able to come same day. Lucky us!!! Within 15 minutes Charlie assessed the issue and determined the unit was likely overcharged (following repair of a leak by another company in the Spring.) The issue was fully corrected and tested same day. Cost: $105. Real Chill is the real deal. I could go on and on. To sum up: they care about their customers, even newbies like us, and provide knowledgable technicians and fair, transparent pricing. read more

Today our Mitsubishi Ductless AC/Heat unit needed 6 pounds of coolant gas. Amazon sells the gas, R410A, for $6 per pound in 25 Lb Honeywell cylinders. Real Chill charged $60 per pound. That is ten times cost for a total of $600 whereas labor was only $150. I was floored. I have had them out three times and the technician was extremely good. I would have thought they would have warned me that they mark it up so unreasonably. Can you spell GOUGE? The staff answering the phone gave a Trump-like dodge: what about all the other HVAC firms, they gouge so why shouldn't we? Then she gave the insincere apology routine: "I am sorry you feel that way". If you need coolant, I suggest you buy you R410-A off Amazon which is legal to do and shop for a qualified technician to install it. Very troubled by the phone person's justification for covering up the collusion. Translated RealChill, just wrote: "Sorry we gouged you but everybody is dishonest and we fixed it so what is the problem?" A true politician-like reply! read more

Charlie came to my check out my unit that just runs day and night. My electric bill has been through the roof. He found a couple issues and fixed them right away and changed my horrible filter that I should have done :-( He was very professional and explained everything and went out of his way to pay attention to my dog to make her comfortable with him also. Terrible business. AC is blowing hot air, so we give them a call. First visit, $100 charge, tech is there for 15 minutes and says we need a new air return. Two weeks later when the duct guy finally arrives, new air return installation: $400. Still not cooling. We call to complain, are told that a tech will be out and that we won't be charged as it is the same issue. A week later, tech arrives, confirms that it is the same issue but demands to be paid anyway and says that it is totally fixed this time. Three weeks and $600 later the unit still isn't working and they aren't returning my calls. read more

Real Chill responded promptly to my emergency service call and was onsite within 1 hour. All is warm and toasty!

Every two years, I have my A/C checked. Last year I called Real Chill for the first time. The first tech ($100) said all was fine. The hot weather hit a month later and the system blew hot air. They next tech ($150) said there was no freon and the "compressor pins had thermally opened" from being run with no freon. He tried cooling it but could do no more. Therefore, "Compressor will need to be replaced." (These are quotes from the service invoice.) I called another company, who arrived the next day (I'd called on Sunday.) By then the compressor pins had apparently closed, so the compressor did not need to be replaced. What's more, that company's tech found the leak by which the freon had escaped. Something called the "king valve" had not been closed completely by (apparently) the first tech from Real Chill. This visit, which solved the problem, cost $750. When I called Real Chill (BTW, I agree with Greg T's comment about the friendly receptionist) and told the owner, his response was "You don't know how many times I've heard that. Wait until it runs out again." Well, it's a year later with no further servicing. The compressor has never been replaced. My A/C is still pumping out cold air like a champ. I'm still waiting for the freon to run out. read more
