We got crab this week and made the best crab cakes I've ever had!!! They deliver super fresh local and sustainable seafood and you pick it up at a drop off spot in your neighborhood, It's a CSA for fish, and like other CSAs I am sometimes forced to cook a product I may never have thought to buy, such as anchovies or squid, but mostly its familiar and always unbelievably fresh! We've been Real Good Fish customers for about a year, and still loving it. The freshness and quality is amazing, and it's such a treat to have this quality of seafood at home. This week it was Miyagi Oysters. Really great, only 2nd time we've shucked oysters ourselves, and the first time doing it at home. It's pretty easy, fun, and definitely a great way to enjoy these sweet little gems! What you get varies (recent items - oysters, ridgeback prawns, white sea bass, dungeness, grenadiers, butterfish, abalone), and you can select from whole vs. fillets, and opt out of some types, and pick your pick-up location and weekly/bi-weekly. My husband and I signed up for Real Good Fish about 1 or 2 years ago. It is convenient (they have a pick up point near our house) and the fish is the freshest ever. The portion is very generous for 2 people. They also have an online store where you can purchase other fish that is not necessarily the fish of the week. Real Good Fish is the best option for seafood in the Santa Cruz-Monterey area. I've been a member for about 3 years now. I always know where my seafood comes from and who caught it. I don't have to worry about ethical issues such as illegal fishing, slave labor, or unfair wages. It's all locally caught and from sustainable fisheries. I love the variety. The freshness is just amazing. I didn't realize how much of a difference freshness makes until I joined Real Good Fish. I feel really spoiled now. I like that I can put my membership on hold when I travel. And, the webstore offers other great options. I think the price is competitive as well. I generally get 2 meals for 2 people out of my weekly share. Some of my favorite items are ridgeback shrimp, dungeness crab, salmon, petrale sole, and the more unique items like grenadier and opah. Customer service is spot on... if you want to opt out of a certain type of seafood or need to make changes to your pick up... they are pleasant and efficient. Been a member for a couple of months now, and can only wish I'd joined earlier! Very convenient and consistent delivery of a variety of seafood from our local ocean. Can't get it much fresher than this unless you're on the boat yourself. I get the "regular" share and it is plenty for 2 adults and sometimes a kid if he's not being picky. This has pushed me to try a much bigger and better variety of seafood than I'd ever buy normally, and I've been nothing but impressed so far. The guys who run this are very receptive to feedback and encourage members to participate with recipe sharing, seafood cleaning tips, dinner meetups, information about how the fish is caught/harvested, everything you could want to know about what you're eating. Love that it is a local business that is also sustaining independent fisherman who'd otherwise have a hard time competing with the commercial guys. Lots of good comes from our shares of Real Good Fish. We have had seafood that for flavor and freshness was beyond comparison to any we have purchased locally, even at the pier.The people are super--once at the last minute I needed to double my order, and it was made available with good cheer. In addition, we feel good knowing we are supporting Monterey Bay fishermen. Real Good Fish is on a par with the excellent harvest group, Live Earth Farm. I've been a member for 1 year now, and I love it! There is a large variety of seafood, they execute the distribution very well, and they have nice newsletters to read about the week's fish/how to cook it. I'm a stickler for good quality / fresh seafood, and I have not been disappointed. The price is not cheap, but I don't feel like it's overpriced either. The biggest benefit is that it gets me to incorporate sustainable seafood into my cooking/eating routine. Shopping for fresh seafood at the market is out of the way, but this is super easy. I had some doubts when I first signed up but I am so glad I did for reasons not apparent at first. Yeah, fresh seafood is a good thing, but even better is the bi-weekly adventure of trying out new types of seafood that we wouldn't have otherwise tried. Every other Thursday is a culinary adventure scouting out new recipes, though some of the better ones are found on the RGF website. We have been getting seafood from Real Good Fish for about four years now in the South Bay. The seafood is typically caught a day or two before and they send you who caught the fish, when it was caught and packaged, so you know the stuff is fresh (you can taste the difference) and not sitting around in some supermarket cooler for who knows how long. It is really important for me to know where my food comes from so I like supporting local places like this, especially when the quality is this good. The pricing is spot on with what you would pay at a farmer's market or a higher quality grocery store. They have such a great variety like oysters, Dungeness crab, black cod, rockfish, shrimp, calamari and so much more! We get the share every other week and the best part is if you are going out of town or can't make the pick-up that week you can just put it on hold and they won't charge you. What amazes me the most about the Bay Area is there are very few fish markets like we had when we lived in Seattle so Real Good Fish really fills that void.
