Mike's should not be 3 stars... no idea why it is. Is it the best food you ever had? No, of course not. It suits the need, which is a fast grab or cheap eats after a night out on the town. The pizza slice deal as of Jan 2026 is $4 for a slice and a soda. Where else can you get that? Lunch and a drink for under $5 is unheard of. The slices are also crisp when they come out- not soggy or limp. Don't expect gourmet or the best ambiance/service- it is what it is, but Mike's does it well. read more

How absurd to go to a local food service joint gleefully, then get treated pathetically! I specifically chose to patronize Mike's Food & Spirit tonight out of all the other places I could have chosen in Davis Sq because it's a historic neighborhood fixture. Except, the server [the taller one on glasses, black sweatshirt with Italian flag] didn't care to have any of me. Why even choose to work in the service industry if you don't like customers?! All I asked were: 1) can I taste a beer, then [because I don't like it], I asked 2) for the alcoholic content of another beer on draught. Not every customer who comes to you is knowledgeable about all the beer, seasonal or regular. In fact, a positive reception allows customers to consume with satisfaction and most likely return. This man was just flat out nasty! He said, he was gonna find out [the answer to my question], but never returned. Worse, I saw him talk to a peer [also in glasses] in a Latin language and they both laughed looking at me. Sad! Yet, my/our consumption is how you get a paycheck. I wouldn't say service is ever to die for at Mikes but they have a lot of other things going for them that make them one of my favorite local spots. First, $10 lunch specials!! I work in Davis and when I have time to sit down and have lunch this is my go to! You can't beat the price, there are sooo many options and they give you so much food! Definitely check it out for lunch. Mikes also has trivia. Their Thursday family feud style trivia is my favorite. Instead of having to get the correct answer you just have to guess what you think everyone else thinks. So the questions are like "what was the best Beatles album" and you just have to answer with the most popular answer. I find it a lot more fun and team engaging than regular trivia. I'm pretty surprised at all of the 3 and lower star reviews here. I've ordered from Mike's a number of times, and while it is true that every time I've ordered for delivery from the restaurant, the drivers have taken an extremely long time to deliver the food, it's always been great, and in fact it's actually been pretty excellent. I am docking 1 star because of the delivery time, but surprisingly the food is still always hot and tasty despite taking a long time to get here. Today, I submitted an order at 12:33 which was supposed to arrive at 1:05-1:15, but in actuality it arrived at 1:50ish. That's not too bad, but like I said it has been pretty consistent with my past experiences. I've ordered subs in the past which have been pretty good, but this time I decided to get a Keto Pizza with cauliflower crust. Cheese pizza with cauliflower crust (keto) - I've never actually had cauliflower crust pizza before so I'm not sure how normal this is, but this was possibly one of the best crusts I've ever had on a pizza of any kind. It was perfectly crispy on the exterior, but wonderfully chewy in a way that had some bite but not too much chewiness if that makes sense. It was a really hearty pizza, and the dough texture was simply the best I've ever had. The sauce was also wonderfully tomato-ey with nice acidity and sweetness - it didn't taste like your typical marinara sauce from a jar or a can. The cheese was pretty normal, but they put a good amount on top so the ratio of cheese to sauce to crust was perfect. And I said it earlier, but that crust really was something special - it was thin but had the perfect bite to it. I would 100% order this again, and although the delivery time can get a little annoying, the actual quality of the Keto pizza is worth the wait. 4/5 stars! read more

This place is a-ok for a quick, well-priced bite - especially the generous lunch specials for around $10 bucks. Sitting in the window at a high top on a sunny day is the way to go. The food is very basic and if you don't go crazy expecting too much you could do a lot worse. I've tried a few things and thought the chicken soup and half sandwich combo was just fine. The broth was a bit too thin and watery and the sandwich looked like something I could make at home, with individually wrapped slices of American cheese but hey, it was $10 bucks! This place is relaxed and has a great slice of pizza. They are pretty nonchalant about adapting your party size or your seating which adds to the ease of coming and going. The menu is sometimes a little daunting with the amount of choice, but nothing is bad. This place is perfect pub food, nothing fancy just comfort food with a variety of selections. The service is solid, though sometimes gets bogged down by the sheer volume of people in the space. The beer tap has a great selection and I don't know how they offer so many cocktails. Not going to lie, I'm leaving a review because not only was the food not great but the pricing is RIDICULOUS. I used to live in the area and used to like going to Mike's. Moved out of the area some time ago so I haven't been to Mike's in a long time; however, I needed to kill some time before going to a doctors appointment so I stepped in with my family. Ordered some tenders, the menu says 4 (with fries) for $16; how we ended up paying $20? Instead of putting avocado in my wife's wrap, they put guacamole. My Mac and cheese for $21 was in a bowl the size of a Panera soup and it tasted mostly like garlic with buffalo chicken. Side of sweet potato fries... $9! $9!! And $4 for a soda water from the fountain. To top it off, the only hot thing was the Mac and cheese; everything else was barely warm. Lastly, what the freak does an admin fee cover cuz I still tipped...?! I paid the bill in a rush cuz I needed to get to my appointment so this is my fault but holy smokes.. If Davis Square were a small town, this restaurant would be *the* place to get dinner every night. It gives diner, homey vibes. We were seated quickly outside and were asked within twice within 5 minutes of receiving the menu to order. I feel like either they have a lot of regulars or the server was just very impatient (although she was friendly enough so I don't think it's the latter). The menu was huge though so it was very hard to choose what to order in such a small period of time. After deciding what to order, we ironically had to wait a long time for someone to come back to us. Salads and drinks came out shortly after though. The drink I ordered was actually really delicious too. The salad was obviously pre-made/chilled as the bowl that came out with it felt refrigerated as well. It was just a side salad though so it tasted fine overall. The pastas were very large and overall pretty tasty. The side of bread was extremely filling as well. I've never had chicken saltmibocca before but I would definitely order it again; the sauce was very light and that helped as the meal itself was very large. Our server seemed to forget about us though as we finished seeing as we asked for water and the check, but we had to flag someone down twenty minutes after this to even pay. TLDR; food was pretty good given the type of restaurant it is but the service could've been better. They were nice enough, just not as attentive as we would've liked. This might be my new go to stop. Ray the owner is amazing and such a great sweet guy. The bar tenders Julia and Michael are the ish. Everyone in there is so friendly. We went there 2 days in a row. When we came in the second day they gave us a big huge welcome and cheered. The food is so good, the calzones are so big it fed like 3 ppl and we still had some left over. The tuna club is huge and stuffed and delish. There is plenty of great choices on the menu including mussels. They are worth going in and giving them a try. Love it here. read more

I would think twice about going here... My family and I stopped here for a quick bite to eat. The waitress was very nice and attentive, she had a lot of tables and couldn't visit as often as she liked but she definitely made sure we knew she was on top of things. The kitchen was a bit backed up which was okay, it happens on a busy Saturday, so all the food came at once. My friend got a veggie burger which she said was dry, like eating sawdust, the bruschetta was good but not quite bruschetta as it was just sub rolls cut up - but the flavor was there. I had the chicken parm which was acceptable and another friend had a wrap which she described as "meh". But the real kicker was when my mother found a hair in her food, she stopped eating and did tell the waitress who apologized profusely - offering to refund her and bring her something else. We didn't have time to wait on another dish but my mother was all set anyways. After she told us she'd take the food off, the manager came out and started arguing with my mother about it because she ate half the plate before finding the hair. They tried explaining to her that because she ate half, they wouldn't be taking it off the bill and that the wind could have blown the hair into the food... The hair that was at the bottom of the plate. They would not take it off. So my mother paid for a food with hair in it because she didn't find it until she was about halfway done. Do not go to this restaurant. I'm only giving it two stars because frankly the waitress was really good and she deserves better. The food was okay without the hair and not worth the hassle if you're going to have any issues knowing that it will amount to nothing but arguing with someone as if they're just out to get a free meal. Came in for lunch on Monday when it was was dead. Got the pasta special. Came out host instantly and cooled quickly. Ordered a gin martini, and it was horrible. If I could give zero stars, I would. My family has been coming to this establishment for generations, from my grandparents taking their children, to their children taking their children and grandchildren. It's been a fine establishment since it's opening and never once had a bad experience. Until today. From the minute we walked in, the whole place smelled like ammonia. We were given attitude from the manager, forcing us to sit at a hightop with my 85 year old grandmother who almost fell trying to get into the seat. The tensions continued to rise as we tried placing our order and asking questions about items on the menu due to an allergy. We were give short, rude comments. Three of the main entrees that were ordered medium-rare, all came overcooked, grey and burnt, the mashed potatoes looked like soup from a can, the vegetables were cold, the soup was filled with grease. My grandmother had asked to speak to the owner, a set of brothers who have known her since the opening of the restaurant. According to the manager it was taken over by one of the daughters of the men, but she had no idea anyone's names. At one point, what seemed to be a homeless man came in asking to buy a slice of pizza and was rudely asked to leave. My mother offered to pay for his slice and the manager proceeded to treat her rudely yet again and told the man to leave. It was at this point we asked for the check and was not given it. We were asked what we were looking for in return of this bad experience and we repeated, the check, to which they refused. We were then escorted out. I've never in my life witnessed an hour so cruel. Especially on this Easter weekend. We will never return and I hope everyone who sees this does the same. read more

The service was ok, sometimes they're very busy and sometimes they don't pick up the phone if you want to order ahead (to prevent waiting for too long). The ambiance is good, it's right in the heart of davis sq so at least they have that going for them. Maybe a little bit more friendly service and they could earn my last star. read more

I grabbed food and drinks yesterday at Mike's and I was very pleased with the experience. For those that don't know, Mike's is a laid back "Italian" joint with a decent selection of beer and plenty of TVs to watch sports. The menu is rather broad encompassing everything from pizza to burgers to salads. I went with a pizza and it was good. Not amazing, I won't write home about it. But very good especially considering the price and location. My only gripe is that there could have been a bit more in terms of toppings. But again, very good pizza. My friend went with the calzone and holy large servings Batman, it was massive. Calzones only come in two sizes, large and ginormous. She had the large and it was easily enough for two people. I'm really curious as to how big the jumbo calzone is. I was there to watch the Irish stomp on Syracuse (which the did in splendid fashion) and on the right side of the restaurant there are plenty of TVs and seats. Of equal importance was that the bartender was very receptive and responsive to requests to watch games. He was on top of things in terms of getting channels changed and adjusting the volume. They also have a reasonably good draft beer selection. Not a ton, I'd guestimate it at ten or so. So, you can probably find something you'd like to drink. My friend had a coconut mojito and she gave it a resounding thumbs up. Final verdict, it's a great place to grab some food, beer and watch a game. I'll certainly head back. read more

I went here with on a Wednesday with my 6 year old for a quick lunch before she had to return to school. I was hoping they still had the pizza by the slice like they used to, but I guess they don't have that anymore. So, I was happy to see the 10$ lunch menu. They had 5 sandwiches listed on the menu card, so we asked for the grilled cheese and the BLT. The waitress said they came with fries, so we got that. But when the bill came, we were charged 17$ for each sandwich. The total bill (including a 20% tip that I left and one soda) was came to 50$ !!! I couldn't believe it --we came in for a quick lunch. I thought there was a mistake, but the waitress said there were no fries with the 10$ menu -- that came with soup instead. But, why didn't she offer the soup when we ordered? Why did she tell us there were fries that came with our sandwiches (especially since that option wasn't even listed on the full menu for a grilled cheese, I checked later). We could have ordered many other (better) sandwiches for less than 17$ from the full menu, but had restricted ourselves to the special lunch menu. I feel like we were scammed and their pricing is all off : if a grilled cheese sandwich + soup is 10$, why were we charged 17$ when we didn't get soup? A side of fries wouldn't have been that much extra! Really disappointed, since the waitress shouldn't have misled us when we ordered and said that it "came with fries". 50$ is way too much for two quick sandwiches and fries, half of which my 6-year old didn't even eat. Not going back there. Really disappointing. Other than that, the food was fine and the service was fast. The atmosphere was nice and the interior was a nicer ambience than it had been in years past.
