I walked in and a male staff saw me, nope nope he just show me a face that he will not want to serve me ??? I ask him how much is the bag... He asked me "do you want to buy it ???" Huh??? I actually want it But not now anyway Then a few Asian went in and the male staff remain the same attitude --- so rude I thought it was his original character... Oh NO he talked to anyone in WHITE LIKE HIMSELF VERY VERY NICE and very very POLITE !!! Nope nope I am not buying anything from him though I like the items very much... I told him off I will never buy anything because he dun wan me to lol!!! It just to make a point of their rude and unprofessional service... and he is going to lose more customer not because I wrote bad thing here in YELP !!! I discussed my concerns about jewelry tarnishing, and they told me about their experiences with certain limited-edition rings versus standard inventory. They gently warned me against a style I've been interested in, and suggested pieces that would last longer. Compared to other locations in Europe where the employees completely ignored me, it was awesome getting to chat with the ladies working about our mutual love for the late Dame Vivienne Westwood, and how she's influenced our fashion. The building was large, clean, and well-stocked with items and the employees were eager to allow me to try on anything I wanted. There were a few purses I didn't see on display, but instead, they were displaying this season's new limited edition prints. I never felt like I was being ignored, nor pushed towards making a rapid purchase. Some items sold for more than what they'd go on luxury retailer sites like SSENSE but that's to be expected. Since I'm baby-faced, I've experienced a lot of prejudice and awful customer service at luxury stores that has made me boycott brands. Never felt that way here. On a more personal note, I visited Albertine three times before deciding to feature it on The Boutique of the Week, not because I was wary of the selection, but the price is higher than my norm. However, Albertine truly is too good to pass up and is the perfect place to splurge and treat yourself to an amazing piece (or two, or three...). The jewelry is the best feature of Albertine and will have you coming back just to drool over it. The exquisitely edited collection is priced from $100 to a steep $1,000+. The beautiful vintage pieces are displayed in glass cases, but touching and dressing up is encouraged. Delicate necklaces share a wall with leather cuffs, and pendants of owls and horns share a case with a silver snake ring and jade earrings. Prices can only be found out from a large binder where handwritten notes and photos document the inventory. The womenswear boasts up-and-coming designers and custom-made pieces that are feminine and vintage-inspired ranging from $150-600+. Flowy fabrics in all colors can be found in floor-length silk gowns and highly-structured bomber jackets. The cozy store normally only has one or two sizes displayed, but the staff is happy to find you the perfect fit in the back. Later that night I ran into him with mutual friends and inquired. That was the beginning of my friendship with George (S.I.P) and with the store. Upon arrival I was met by this stunning black woman wearing a huge smile and draped in an ensemble of prints and textures. Everything she was wearing were from her store and I wanted all of them- but I couldn't afford it so I bought one piece; the classic Nikki dress in yellow. That summer I wore that dress at least 10 times and every time I did, I'd get a million compliments. Debbie had a sale and ran to get more pieces namely the Audra Kimono and another Nikki dress in print. A year later, Debbie had a stall at BAM Dance Africa and I grabbed a couple more pieces. Folks would pile into the shop everyday to stop and chat with Debbie, purchase signature kimonos, dresses, tunics of the brightest, boldest prints, catch a vibe when the DJ was there on weekends or simply just to hang out. It was that neighborhood spot. We had many friends in common and so it was always fun to spot each other #martinedreaming As the store closes and Debbie transitions to the next leg of her journey; I wish her nothing but the best and know that her and this shop will continue to evoke joy whenever I see someone wearing her pieces and is reminded of how much of gem this post was.
