I come here on a visit every few times a year. I can't come here more often. My waistline would hate me. The pies: they're delicious! Haven't had one that disappointed. The best is the key lime, and I don't even like key lime. They have a rhubarb that is delicious, and so is the pecan. I finally tried their famous chicken pot pie - worth the trouble of making it, and then destroying the pie tin trying to get all of the crust off because it's that good. Who doesn't love a good dessert?! Especially for the holidays or special occasion?! I have my go to pie shop that I will order from depending upon the amount of desserts that I will be baking myself, or want to serve. I decided to order the cherry pie, and I would bake them more complicated desserts. When I placed the order, the woman that helped me was incredibly sweet. I did ask if I needed to add to the order explaining that I was still on the fence about some of my desserts if I could do that. She assured me that I could either call back, or when I was in the shop just pick up whatever I needed because there should be plenty of extras. Great! I arrived 15 minutes before the store opened to an unexpected line wrapping around both sides of the building. Thankfully, one line was for those of us that had pre-ordered, and the other line which was much longer, was for last-minute shoppers. The pre-ordered line moved fairly quickly, and when I got inside, I inquired about purchasing additional pies. I was met with a grouchy face, and was told I would need to go get in the other line if I wanted to purchase anything. I quickly explained what had been said to me on the phone, and rather than have a conversation with me, I was overlooked and they yelled next. It felt like a scene out of Seinfeld. Fine. I took my pie and left. It hadn't even made it to the dessert table and had already left a bad taste in my mouth. Let me preface the rest of this by saying that their pies are very pricey, and it's more hype than anything else. People, if you're going to hype anything, make sure it's worth the push and the money. The dessert table was filled, and let's just say I was thankful that I went above and beyond in my efforts for the extra desserts. I was told that the pie would serve around eight people. I'm glad it wasn't the only dessert because it definitely would not have worked. I was told that the pie did not need to be heated and could be eaten as as. Fair enough. When we cut into the pie, the bottom crust was really hard. The lattice part of the crust was equally hard, and the combination together was absolutely awful. I was expecting flaky, buttery, decadent, and was met with really bad crust. The actual cherries of the pie were tasty, but they're definitely was not enough filling in the pie. So it mounted to basically crust and a little bit of cherries. I have to say I was rather embarrassed to serve it, but it was what it was. I was grateful for the fact that it absolutely did not taste like the canned pie filling that you can buy in the grocery store. Will I go back? Based on Customer Service and the quality of the pie, probably not. If you plan on going, always check their hours because they're not open every day. Parking can be impossible, regardless of the time of year, and their pies are all pretty pricey. read more

I visited the Real Pie Company in hopes of finding breakfast. Thank you Google and Siri for bad information, this is a bakery and the restaurant was closed down at the onset of the pandemic. The shop smelled great, fresh lemons (someone was cutting lemons). Therefore I was enticed to buy two lemon shortbread cookies. Very good, flavorful, you can see the lemon zest and taste the lemon flavor without it being too overpowering. I also purchased a chocolate chip cookies. It was good. Fresh and tasty treats for me. To share the wealth with our family and friends during the holidays. This was by far one of the best pies that I'd ever tasted, and I needed to know what it was and where it was from...so I could try it again! From walking in I loved the small bakery look amd vibe, and seeing customers patiently waited to order. And or like us, not sure because there were so many delicious treats to choose from; both visually with what was already on display. And or what was featured on the display counter, and behind the register on the large menus categorized as "Sweet Staples", "December (Monthly)" and "Savory Items". Ordered: "Sweet staples menu" Blackberry + Wild Blueberry Pie Butterscotch Banana Cream Pie Note: BRING CASH! They have a2.5% charge for debit & credit card charges. So save yourself some money and use cash. I wasn't aware of this before we arrived as this was our first time here. And although our order came to $70, I only had $100's on me and they don't take bills that large. So I unfortunately wasn't able to pay in cash this time, but definitely will next time. My sister highly recommended pies from Real Pie Company, and she gets them from the Soil Born farms. We visited their brick and mortar location for the first time and they had a great selection to choose from. I already know I will be back soon to try more. They offer pie slices as well as whole pies. We decided on slices of key lime, coconut cream, and pear and blackberry hand pie. We ordered the tangerine butter cookie, but when we got home we realized they mistakenly gave us the tangerine dream mini pie (which was good). We will be back to try their cookies! I have an affection for coconut cream pie and their version is really good. The crust is delicious (more like graham cracker texture versus a butter crust), and the cream layer had lots of flaked coconut which I loved. My sister really enjoyed the key lime pie as well. The hand pie was quite large and I enjoyed the filling. Service was great and we went when they opened so all the selections were available. I don't consider myself much of a pie person, and even less so since I've been trying to cut back on carbs, but I was seriously contemplating a return trip here to pick up more pies. We came on a Thursday so they only had the pies in the case available instead of the full menu selection. Honestly, it made it easier for us to decide on what to bring home. We ended up getting a peach-nectarine pie along with slices of cherry pie, blackberry + wild blueberry, and coconut cream pie. Everything was superb. The fruit flavors were intense. Real pie is hands down the best pie in Sacramento- all these one star or two star reviews are crazy - they sell out because they are popular , since when did that become an issue ? Also the hours are posted outside the store and even online on their own website - yelp messed up the hours , so rate them 1 star ? Weird . Sounds like people are so used to getting things handed to them or like one comment said going to chains where the quality is low and they can always be in stock becuase they have preservatives in them is where those people belong . I've been wanting to try this place FOREVER. Father's Day seemed like as good a day as any other! I did try to pre-order online, the night before, but they require two days notice for pre-orders (fair enough). Also, it's easiest to see their pie line-up on their Instagram, but their website does have them too. As I'm reflecting, I didn't even try either pie I purchased. Only because the family devoured them, and randomly, I was given a banana pie instead of Coconut Cream Pie...and I absolutely HATE bananas. I will say, my family has opinions. So, since they ate almost the entirety of two pies in one sitting, leads me to believe they were delicious. Also, they verbally shared their kudos for the pies too! So, although I have yet to try them myself, I can safely say they are good. I will be back, because after reviewing their single slice/pie flavors, I want to try them. Savory and sweet, both peaked my interest. As for customer service, they did exceptional. After I realized the mix up with the pies, I emailed the email from their website. I shared the mix up and that I wasn't event sure what I hoped would be the outcome, since the family ate the banana pie and enjoyed it. Kira, one of the owners, responded extremely quickly and offered a certificate for a free pie. This was extremely kind and I appreciate this level of customer service. The set-up is pretty simple. You walk in and there are two registers, but the center one is the main one. You place your order and wait, awkwardly, then pick it up from the counter at the end. It was a simple system, yet with people standing around and waiting, it could be confusing for people who are new and walking in. I'm glad I finally got to support this niche, local business. AMAZING now added to my list of go to spots on broadway. The pie milkshake is one of the best milkshakes I've ever had with buttermilk ice cream and blackberry and blueberry pie. The pie in the shake added a nice texture. Also, the buttermilk icecream is custom made from Gunther's. I am eager to try the savory pies like the chicken pot pie of shepherd's pie (they were out when we visited) but I heard that they also supply to Nugget. I'll be picking up a savory pie soon. Real Pie Company has been on my list to visit for a while. I've heard great things, but haven't had a lot of pie needs or cravings lately. Today I was driving through the area and decided I had to stop and check it out. There is street parking, and it looked like there were limited spots on the side of the restaurant off of X street Broadway Alley. The parking on the side of the building closer to Broadway (the main street) belong to the Smog business and there was a sign out to notify people. I parked right in front of the building and walked in where I was immediately greeted by two friendly staff members behind the counter. When I let them know it was my first time they gave me the rundown on the different options available. I love that there are options for slices and full pies as well as other offerings like whole savory pies, cookies and drinks. I ended up ordering a slice of Key Lime Pie ($6.25) and a seasonal slice of Mocha Cream Pie ($6.50) along with a Maple Pecan Cookie ($1.50) and a Meyer Lemon Shortbread cookie ($1.50). The team there was really friendly and packed everything up nicely and with care and rang me out. When I got home I immediately snapped some photos and shared the slices with my husband. We're big Key Lime pie fans and while this version is much different than what we've become accustomed to with some Florida recipes, it was still very tasty. The lime flavor was lighter and it was fluffy versus dense. The mocha cream pie was a bit more dense, but still fluffy and I liked that the bottom of the crust hada layer of chocolate. I'm saving the cookies to enjoy with tea later, but I'm excited to try them as well. The business itself is definitely a pick up and take home spot, but it's perfect for a little treat or to bring something to a party or event. This is a small storefront with very little parking. Very busy place. Pot pies are individual size and $15. Pies are $33. And they will charge you 2.5% extra if you don't pay cash. The crusts are excellent. The hand pie was a fail for me though because I just can't get over the CANNED pears!- it just ruined the filling. It was an interesting way we decided to come here today. We were at a coffee shop and we saw a van that had the "Real Pie Company" logo to the side. I looked to Yelp, and saw that it was less than a 5 minute drive. We decided to stop by after grabbing our coffee. I liked how there was parking right in the front. The crust is so flakey, it's almost better than the insides! They offer an array of seasonal and stock pies, rotating flavors according to the season. It was hard to just choose one so the cashier helped me choose. I got a apricot almond paste galette, butterscotch banana cream pie and tangerine shortbread cookie. My fav was the galette. I'm so intrigued by the changing menu I want to come back every month now, if not sooner!! The shop itself feels large with just two simple cases of offerings...hot in one case and refrigerated in the other. They also have a variety of potpies and other deserts. The most unique was the pie shake...if you can't eat it, drink it!!! The parking lot is small with a few spots out front but I had no problems getting a spot. Found myself here after searching for chocolate cream pie. We came in the afternoon and it wasn't too busy. The staff were friendly and service was fast. Ended up with three slices of pie. Chocolate Cream Pie: Delicious! The crust is chocolatey and the filling is rich, not too thick or too runny. The slice keeps its shape perfectly and has just the right amount of whipped cream on the top. Blackberry Wild Blueberry: Crust is perfect flakey and sweet. The filling is flavorful and fruity. Who doesn't love pie? I stopped by the Real Pie Company and all I can say is wow!! There were so many options and sadly I couldn't get them all. My wife and I decided to try 2 pies. The Bartlett Pear & Wild Blueberry Crisp was so tasty. It had right amount of sweetness and crisp on top. The Rhubarb & Raspberry Pie was tart and the crust was flaky and delicious. The employees were nice and friendly and offered us utensils and napkins when I got my order. They did have a surcharge when using your credit/debit card which sucks. You will not be disappointed. I have tried to gate keep this place for a while now. Solid 10/10 This is place is more of a grab n go---open for walk ins Fri-Sun. The rest of the week is pre-orders only. Lots of rotating pies flavors and tarts to choose from. Their signature is the jumble-berry. They also sell take home pies like chicken pot pies and shepherds pie. Both delicious and the right amount of flaky. My absolute favorite thing to order here is the PIE MILKSHAKE. You can mix and match your choice of pie and ice cream (Gunther's). I prefer buttermilk ice cream and jumble-berry pie. Just the right sweetness and you get chunks of pie every now and then. 5 stars for the Butterscotch Banana Cream Pie! Absolutely delicious! I love regular banana cream pies and at first was worried about the butterscotch. Thank goodness I tried it anyway because the flavor is amazing, and it doesn't take away from the banana cream at all. Then the crust is the perfect texture for a nice chew to compliment the soft cream filling and bananas. I've also tried the Cherry Pie. It was also good, but it wasn't the same wow-I-will-crave-this type of good like the Butterscotch Banana Cream one. I really wish they sold the Butterscotch Banana Cream Pie at Nugget! So gotta trek to their actual Real Pie Company store for it. It's not the nicest area, but theres always street parking right in front and like 3 customer parking spots to the left of the store.
