I stopped by Real Produce this morning since it was next door to Trader Joe's. I love that they are both so close because sometimes I need items that Trader Joe's does not have. This is a smaller scale middle eastern store that offers produce, spices, bread and international food items. I really love their Persian cucumbers and Italian Parsley. Their prices on their produce are very reasonable. They also carry Armenian Bastirma and Soujouk, which are hard to find. They have a decent selection of spices and have an excellent selection of different brands of Labne. I needed some Aleppo pepper, which they had and also purchased some fresh Persian cucumbers. They do sell many different ethnic breads but they are not always fresh. If you see them taking bread out of boxes and stocking the shelves, that is when you know the bread is fresh. Customer service is not always consistent. But the staff are friendly. read more

Real Produce was a total gem in the rough. I stumbled on it on the way to a different grocery store, and the vibe was so interesting I had to check it out. They had a ton of cheap produce - stuff I can't always find elsewhere (like Japanese daikon!) and the staff was super nice. Store sells low quality food and won't take it back even when it is inedible -- bought package sealed cookies for Nowruz, opened them, they smelled rancid and could not be eaten. Took them back, asking for a refund, they said no. Asked if I could exchange it for another box and they also said no! Asked if he wanted to lose a customer over $10 and he said yes! I've been by to Real Produce a few times now, but haven't specifically come by just to shop here. It's located in a crowded and busy plaza near the Almaden Costco and Trader Joe's. Parking can be a nightmare. The lot is super crowded and can be a pain to navigate. Depending on when you go, you might be stuck waiting for a spot to open up for a while. The fruits and veggies here can be hit or miss. There tends to be nice sale prices, but the produce likely is nearing end of life and can be squishy or even moldy if you don't check carefully beforehand. For some foods that you're okay with cooking and eating immediately, you can get some pretty good grocery deals here. The last time I was here I scored some $1 eggplants that I made into babaganoush dip shortly after. Fruits were okay priced. There were lots of breads inside the store too that looked interesting, but I didn't purchase since I didn't see price tags or expiration dates on them. Maybe another time. read more

They don't stand behind their products! They sell things that are not fresh and won't let you return them after 3 days. I bought cookies for Persian New Year, and they looked fine but smelled rancid and tasted moldy. They were expensive to begin with, and they must have been old when they sold them to me. I am so disappointed I haven't been shopping here much sooner especially since I've driven by it many times. After visiting another store nearby I gravitated towards their produce outside. I saw their killer deals on vegetables and instantly went in and purchased some. They're a small store but offer just about anything you may need for your produce needs. They also offer middle Eastern food products and a fun assortment of chocolates and unique ice creams and assortment of cheese +more. I will definitely be back for that too! Sad to say, I loved coming here. but they made me feel like a thief today. I walked it with my arms crossed. Walk in to look at the fresh garbanzos, looked rotten and moldy btw. They had the Dubai chocolate by the exit door. Stopped to check them out. And then they had dry mulberries. That all I touched. I was the only one stopped to look in my bag. I don't recommend that place because all the stuff they sell is moldy from bread to cucumber to onion, and......... i'm paying the money for quality not paying money for garbage. Their hired staff friendly but owners not so much. Be careful, an elderly customer in front of me was rung up. Customer politely asked cashier how much each item was and there was an error which would have benefited the store. Cashier did not apologize and aggressively handed customer her change and items. I paid for my items in cash and my change was incorrect. She treated me with same hostility. Produce is inexpensive but I've chosen to shop elsewhere. read more

Real Produce if for real really good! the fruits are like picked fresh from the trees, the guys working arranging the produce and making sure everything is properly in place are awesome. One of them even took the time to go and search for a cart for me since there was shortage. However the personnel at the cash register could use a bit more of interpersonal skills and not leave customers to help others in the middle of a transaction. As per items, I found everything I was looking at more. The store is pretty and painted in happy colors. All look fresh and abundant. Only but is the super long line to pay and people passing with their carts was hectic. Probably non weekend days are less heavily trafficked. Amazing array of olives, lots of variety. read more

A manager needs to train the workers how to treat nicely to customers before hired them , specially with an old Mexican lady worker. It was only a plastic bag but she harassed a customer. I won't go this market anymore. Most supermarkets never care the tiny things like that. read more

Real Produce - Grocery Near Me - San Jose, California

Real Produce completes the trifecta of shops, along with Costco and Trader Joe's, that comprise the most boring of my routines - buying groceries. Real Produce is good for quality vegetables and fruits. Better than Trader Joe's and better than Costco. I would say Whole Foods might be a tad better in some cases, but it also costs a lot more and would require crossing a street. Despite it's name, Real Produce is also a Middle Eastern market of sorts, with all kinds of cool products from that broad area of the world. The bottled Abali yogurt drinks are a favorite of mine, just be sure to chill them, shake them, then open them slowly. MORE slowly. As slow as humanly possible. Or just put them in a pitcher and open the cap facing down if you're in a hurry. They also have a fantastic selection of dates. I'm really not used to so much variety, but they have all sorts. One time I found these pitted dates that were so soft, they were practically oozing, and very chewy. So far these were the best dates I've ever had, but regretfully I can't remember which ones. So I've been eating through a lot of dates to try and find them. As others have mentioned, the lines can get long as there are only two registers, both inside, and they block aisles as well as the entrance. If you want good produce for good prices and expect quality better than Trader Joe's, then this is a great store. Or if you like dates, it's also a great store. read more

This is a nice neighborhood produce store sandwiched between a Trader Joe's and Costco. The prices are reasonable and produce is fresh. Other than produce overflowing inside to outside, you'll find Mediterranean and Middle Eastern spices and local treats. Like I said, neighborhood store almost like a bodega so ambiance is no-nonsense. There may be a long line but cashiers are quick so make sure you have your payment ready and bags (if you bring them) ready. $5 minimum card payment and they do take Apple Pay. read more

They have a good assortment of random spices and such, but zero regard for the law. Fine if they want to do minimum charge for credit cards but they may not legally do this for debit cards. I told them this and all I got was two young girls shrugging and ignoring me. read more

Let me start by saying that I've been a long time regular customer who never had any bad experiences with Real Produce right next to TJ's. I am one of those firm believers in shopping local, especially by spreading business amongst mom and pop's. Real Produce has always had a nice and friendly staff on site. Yesterday I and my wife went in Real Produce looking for fresh fruits right after our TJ visit. A nicely dressed older lady who'd immediately given the impression of a boss was at the store front. She had a firm and grim look on her face and did not effuse any warmth. I don't recall ever seeing her there. I was carrying a TJ shopping bag with a bouquet sticking out prominently. For whatever reason, the lady was purposefully shadowing my wife and I right from the get go, without even trying to make it less obvious. I was already feeling uneasy. Within two to three minutes, we'd picked up a bag of cherries and paid for it then were ready to leave. The lady was there at the door stopping us gesturing to see what's inside the bag. She spoke with a heavy accent making it not exactly easy for me to understand her incomplete question, "...from Trader Joe?..." I obliged by showing her the contents. She then waved us off without a word or any facial expressions. I write this not because I want to give feedback. I am trying to help the owner family understand how to manage public relations where we're all members of a community working together to promote business and a sense of belonging. I) Regardless of motivation, never make any customer feel uneasy, or worse, being targeted; II) Never let bad instincts cloud good judgement, even when there's a need to police "suspicious" activities; III) Be nice to your customers; IV) Offer an apology where it's appropriate; V) Learn from mistakes. It'll be a while until I can work off the insult inflicted on me. read more

Best prices I've seen for middle eastern groceries in the Bay Area. Best part is everything is always so fresh! I'm not kidding it's like someone picked the items right off the plant! I liked the $4.99 long flat bread. However, it has no date printed on the package and I ran into trouble the 2nd time I bought it. When I opened it the next day, found the mold spots and had to discard it. I am scared because the one I ate may have the molds also even though it cannot be seen. And there is no way to prevent it because there's no date. Have to give up this my favorite item for good. read more

The good: This is a small middle eastern grocery store on the right of Trader Joes that is known for their fruits and vegetables. They also sell spices, tons of dates, snacks, cookies and tea. I got a giant fruit leather, mushrooms, two types of pear and some other greens when I came here. The mushroom were giant and fresh. The plum fruit leather was the largest I have ever seen. They sell a lot of Middle Eastern grocery items like rose water, lassi, yogurt soda, tons of varieties of sunflower seed snacks, baklava, knafeh, and more. The bad: The shop is small and the line for the register can get long on weekends. They have 2 cashiers usually. The line blocks off some of the aisle. People pick thru vegetables and fruit here a lot. The parking lot here can get crowded as well. The small purple/green pears I got here were pretty sour and bitter. The interesting: You can find ingredients like tumeric, dill, saffron and other middle eastern food items that may be harder to find at other grocery stores. read more

Come here for fresh produce!! Omg I've been walking and driving past this store for over a year. I always come to this plaza to go to the other stores and restaurants: Costco, Spectra, Trader Joe's, etc. Tbh everytime I'm shopping or getting coffee nearby, Real Produce is super busy. It's crowded, especially outside since they have a bunch of their produce on the sidewalk. Well, I was in the plaza getting coffee and noticed Real Produce wasn't busy and noticed a deal for lemons and the next thing I was grabbing a bunch of bell peppers, cilantro, cauliflower, lettuce, jalapeños, and a few other items and my hands were full of produce. Check out lines can be long but it goes by super quick. Everything is so fresh and some items were even organic. Great prices! All the produce is such a good deal and it was only over $10 vs the $30+ I would have probably spent at Spouts. Definitely support small/local business and get your fruits and veggies here! Today I experienced poor customer service at the Real Produce cash register. The lady in a thick white turtle neck sweater with a cover over her head was ringing up the items. She tapped the counter, looked at me and said next. I came up placed my basket with 6 items in there on the counter. She then turned to me and asked me to empty the basket and take the items out. So I did. Then she turned to me again and pointed at the corner of the door and said the basket goes there . I was puzzled and other customers behind me shook their heads at the cashier. I guess the customer is expected to work part time there now too.....? OMG never seen before and she had the nerve to tell me it's just a cart I'm putting back.... read more

Beware, you may be accused of shoplifting!!! The Real Produce 'security team' is apparently a short woman wearing a cobalt blue blouse who does not speak or write English!! This is humiliating and not acceptable. If I was a lawyer, expect a lawsuit. On 5/18/2024 at 14:36 (per my receipt), I paid $6.39 for oranges/cherries and exited the store, walked several hundred feet (passed Carters, Trader Joe, and Tilly) to my car, when this woman accosted me and accused me of shoplifting by pointing at my shopping cart and speaking a foreign language. I deduced she wanted to see my receipt, but she apparently can't read the English receipt and she pointed me to follow her back to Real Produce. Against my better judgement, I went back to RP, where an English speaking clerk apologized profusely to me. First, of all, this woman did not have an store employee id. She could have a random person who was trying to rob and scam me. For her own safety, RP needs a better process. Second, why would RP use a untrained security woman who does not speak or read English? Word of advice to RP: you are asking for a lawsuit. At best, she was a relative of an employee who was 'helping'. Finally, this is not good for business. RP - get your act together. I shopped at Real Produce several times a week, piggybacking on my Costco and Trader Joe trips... great prices and quality. Not going back anymore. read more

My friend recommended me to shop at your store for Pomegranates. So, I was at the store today, I selected few products, fruit and vegetable and checked out at 4:40pm, the cashier was handling my items very roughly, she just threw them into my shopping bag, and I stopped her when she also about to throw in the ripe papaya, I told her to hand it to me instead. Your products are good but your staff should be more gentle handling them. I don't know how much your staff understand that fruit and vegetables are very delicate and as a consumer, I want good products home after spending time driving to your store, selected the products and spent my money to buy them. This is a super great alternative to all the expensive produce that Trader Joe's and Costco has. Sometimes when I want to get some fruits and vegetables and are in the Almaden area this is my go to market for such things. Who knew I would find some good produce at a very fair price like I do with Oakmont market near my flat. The staff who works here is very knowledgeable and very friendly. They work very well with stocking the grocery store and making sure people have a good checkout experience. . Drawback: The only problem is this place seems to be really hit hard by both inflation and popularity. The price of some things have gone to places where I am unable to buy anything. I no longer come here with my mum. Inflation has really hit this place hard. I am not sure why a small market would get hurt so bad inflation. Just doesn't make sense especially because it was supposed to be relief in a very rich area. read more

I always used to shop here. Unfortunately, the business owner has decided that a 50 year old woman can't use the restroom and an employee sent me to TRADER JOES!? This is pretty horrible service. We are not a heroine ghetto, and the twenty somethings can easily scrub the bathroom like we all did at their age when we had jobs in retail and restaurants. I used to love this place. My favorite store for buying persimmon.They have two different varieties of persimmon one is regular one( round ones) and other is some what conical shape. The conical ones are very sweet and it tastes yummy. They also have other fresh produce and prices are reasonable. Credit cards are accepted if the total value of the bill is more than 5$.Take cash if you are planning to buy less than 5$. read more
