Nice and quiet Monday night dinner. First time here but was recommended. Very generous portions, had a mixed drink and beer with dinner. They have a bar with 5 or so taps. Everything was fresh. Out of the fryer was HOT. Everything was very good and portions were big ( see pictures). Service was good as they were also training a new one at the same time. Well worth the stop and will be back in the future. Menus attached as this seems to be the only way to see what's being served. read more

We went there for the fish special. It was ok . The mashed potatoes came ice cold we asked them for fresh and all they did was heat them up in the microwave. The fish was ok but it had a thick band in the middle that you could eat. read more

Portions are huge, as you can see by the mammoth size plate of chili cheese fries. This is a small town diner with very friendly service however, don't expect to find balance or quality in the ingredients. The bbq had the consistency of dog food. Chili is canned, and well as the cheese 'sauce'. My BLT was safe and decent. Stick to the cold cuts and manage expectations and you'll find a fine meal. read more

I would describe this more as a lodge than a diner, the portions are generous and the food is delicious. We had super friendly service. We were there for a mid-afternoon lunch, but it felt like a homey small town favorite, I would imagine it would be busier at mealtimes. Decent food. Gm friendly staff. My rating is based on other similar small town restaurants. We stopped here after visiting a sunflower field nearby and we were hungry and thirsty. The waitress brought beverages promptly and kept our glasses refilled. We order lunches and everything was good. My cousin ordered the nachos and there was a ton on her plate. Definitely could feed two people. My husband ordered the patty melt and really enjoyed it. I ordered the fish sandwich and swapped out regular fries with tater tot's. Surprise at the end of the meal was that as we were leaving we were told to take cookies from a plate sitting on the counter. read more

Great little, local and casual dining spot. The food is fresh and the menu is large. It can get busy, depending on what time/day you come. First time here as we were camping close by. We didn't wait long to sit but it went downhill from there. Bartender had to have our waitress ask how to make our drink, that was listed on the menu. We ordered dinner and got our soup and salads fast. We waited for over an hour before we got out food! Our waitress said it will be a while before you get your food as we have a lot of carry outs. Maybe she could have told us that right out of the gate. Also doesn't it seem that orders go out in the order they come in? Also maybe a dining in customer gets served more quickly? Then we noticed a couple tables seated after us were served before us and yes it was the same thing we ordered. We ordered the fresh fish which we agreed was tasty and a whole order could feed 2-3 people depending on if you had an appetizer or were big eaters. We ate, finally, and yet another wait, for our bills. Finally we got up to go ask and we see her in the back on her phone. She was not a young girl that you may expect to be on her phone either. Drove from Chelsea to check this place out. While waiting for our food, I noticed a cockroach crawl up by my wife to the top of her booth seat, she killed it with her napkin. Then, there was another cockroach on the window sill amongst the halloween decorations, which she killed. We were considering leaving, but our food came out. During dinner there was a 3rd cockroach on the wall, then as we waited for our check, a 4th cockroach on the back of my wife's seat again. We really should have said something, but the place was packed. She had the fish fry and said it was fresh. I had pork chops, thought it was odd they come with fries instead of the redskins or baked potato. Food was just okay, but I had lost my appetite. We will not be back. read more

Holy portion control issues Batman! Come hungry. This place is so far off the beaten path you will be convinced you are lost before you get there unless you are a local. My father knows how to lure me though, offer a new tasty burger to sample on his dime. The drive was worth it, I have to say. The atmosphere is nothing special. The service can be slow. Fair warning. They are really friendly here but this place has a pace firmly set at mosey. They did keep us in drinks, including some nice iced tea. The burgers are huge and tasty, hand pattied. My mom and I each had one (mine was a jalapeno burger that was on special). Both were cooked to order and quite happy. We had some delicious onion rings to go with. You will not finish it all, do not even try. My dad had a very good delmonico steak and was blissful. My parents have been out for the fish fries on Fridays and say it is delicious but I cannot verify it. Prices are great, especially considering the size of things. Don't understand all the 1 star reviews other than they are all 4-5 years old. "The Wolf" as we call it is NOT a bar that serves food but rather A RESTAURANT that has a bar you can sit at and sip your adult beverages. Never have I ever had a bad meal there. Servers are all friendly.All the food is good from the appetizers to the daily specials they have. The fish fry is THURSDAYS and FRIDAYS and it is fantastic. The reason for my four-star review is sometimes that Service can be slow when they are extremely busy but remember.. GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME!!! read more

I have been going to the HW for years, mostly for lunch but for dinner once in a while, with my wife. The best CLUB SANDWICH I have ever had and I have tried many!!! I usually combine it with a HALF order of the mushrooms unless I want take some home!! The service has ALWAYS BEEN GOOD NO PROBLEMS. The only thing weak on the menu are the soups, tried a couple of times and was disappointed each time. I see the one star ratings and wonder if we are talking about the same place, of course there are some folks who live to complain. Maybe MOMMY wasn't working that day to care for them. I really enjoyed the references to GFS, I bet over half the restaurants in the area are supplied by Gordon's. DUH!! Call me TC and satisfied!!! read more

Stopped in here today for the first time & was greeted right away by a very friendly waitress. I ordered the pretzel bun sandwich & let me tell you what, this was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. You have a choice of (I think 3) meats to get on the sandwich, I picked corned beef which was so plentiful & tender. I paired it with a tall beer, I love they they have options between 16oz & 22oz drafts. I left feeling completely satisfied! This place has weird vibes and subpar food. They have a full bar which they don't even use and they look at you sideways if you even order a drink. They close early. And if you aren under the age of 50 and don't eat your food in silence the other guests/regulars death stare you the whole time. This place is not good. I've gone several times because there are few options in town, but it never gets better. There's one server there who is pleasant and gives good service, but most other servers are grumpy and wouldn't know what good service looked like if it bit them in the behind. Everything they serve is gfs and for low quality food, the prices are a bit high. They never have a real bartender working. Instead, servers make drinks-or shall I say TRY to make drinks. Being a bartender myself, I am very specific, but even after telling them exactly how to make something, in which glass it should go, it's never been right. Save your money! I am not a fish guy per se. I like it once in a while when done the way I like it. Usually grilled and not deep fried. The best fish I have had prior to this is Thirstys in Dundee, MI 48131. It is thick and juicy like a steak and the breading peels off easily if you like to cut the fat content. Enter The Hungry Wolf. I tried the all you can eat cod on a Thursday night and let me tell you that the first plate had so much fish on it I did not need to reorder. Thick and juicy. I am a big 255 lb guy and can put some food away; one plate full here did it for me. Mashed P and Gravy was decent as well. Nice! read more

There are some salads on the menu (huge), and some non-meat options (double-decker grilled cheese), and there's a kid's menu with standard kid options. My favorite menu item might be the patty melt -- reserved for special occasions or days when I'm skipping dinner. The BBQ sandwich is good too! Love the sweet potato fries. Potato skins are yummy and you can order them a la carte. Full bar, good beer selection, a few pie selections for dessert. The terrific wait staff is friendly and always happy to see you. They have one really great server, Michelle, she was not working tonight. They only had two people working and they could not keep up at all! Have lived in the area for 7 years. Every time I have gone there the waitresses are slow and not very friendly. The reason for the review is I called on Friday night to order a to go order. Someone answered the phone then placed it down on the counter where we were on "hold" for 30 min while we drove from Ypsilanti to the restaurant. When arriving to order we told the bartender and they really didn't care and we had to wait 30 min for the food. The food is good but it's not really worth the wait and service. read more

Exceeded my expectations. Stopped here with family on our way to Crystal Lake. We originally passed it up, its bland exterior and the presence of a couple of Harley's out front made it look like a biker bar. We asked a local downtown where to get lunch, and he said hands down the Hungry Wolf - good food, great portions. We went back. Inside, it's actually quite nice, and looks recently renovated. Well lit and somewhat quaint, it's got wolf-themed decor. As for the food, none of us had a burger, so I can't really review their flagship offerings. My chef salad was huge and quite tasty, if nothing particularly special, but hey, it's a chef salad. My grandmother liked her BLT and my mom raved about the butternut squash soup, though I didn't try either. My dad's country fried steak was very good, the only complaint being the use of probably canned gravy. For the price, though, the food was good, the portions large, and the service friendly. read more

We stopped their for lunch with a group of about 25 people from a baseball team. We stopped in and they had 2 guys at the bar and about 3 groups of 4 people at various tables who mostly elderly. One group came in with us, one group was eating and one had ordered already or was in the process of ordering. The staff at first was nice and got the tables together and seated us fairly quickly. Now mind you we had a game at 6pm and needed to be there by 5. We had about an hour and half. The waitress got everyone their drinks and the coached had informed her of our time frame. She said no problem. Well, by the time our drinks came...the other group of 4 that walked in just before us was already eating. The waitress went a took care of 2 other tables that came after us and did not our orders...she said she will be right with us...she was going to take care of the others first. They were all elderly people who are probably locals and are not on a time restraint as us. They finally take our orders which are mostly sandwiches or burgers. Well the other tables place orders and get food. We still have no food...it's about 4:45...so coach says we need to take our orders to go. It's 5 o'clock and no food... Coaches leave and cram kids into cars with their baseball gear and leave. The parents stayed behind for food and to pay. Well by this time the nice waitress has turned witchy. She was rude and unfortunately the only one in the whole restaurant who could check people out with a credit card. She was arguing with one of the parents over an extra billing of a soda. It was a circus act..some parents just left without food in disgust of service. The others waited for the food and paid but were treated terribly. By the time we get to field which was 5:50 ( the restaurant was only 5 min away)....the boys had like 2 bites of food and then had to go play ball. Morale: Don't go there with more than 4 people in a group otherwise you need to wait 2 hours for food..service was very, very slow unless your a local. The food for me was good even after 2 hours while others did not get the right order or the food didn't taste good. read more
