We came, we saw, we escaped! April 20, 2018 -- Our company had a wonderful afternoon at Reason. We did the Silicon Valley escape room challenge. The host (Mike) was very friendly and really set the tone for everyone to have an enjoyable time. Our large group (18 people) were all able to participate simultaneously and work collaboratively on the puzzles at hand. The puzzles were quite challenging, but not in an obtuse way. We made it out of the room with 30 seconds to spare! Would definitely recommend to others as this makes for a fantastic team building experience. read more

Great escape room, I love the amount of cool tech in this one, totally suits Silicon Valley. I also like that they give just the right amount of hints/help, it wasn't too little that it was frustrating and also wasn't too much that it felt easy or anything. This turned out to be a great team activity for our geographically disparate group of 20 people. Team dynamics can often be hazy and group activities are great to bring them out. Reason uses technology really well to coordinate this. From games to VR, the puzzles range from classics to using a virtual reality room -- which was very cool! Finally, the post game evaluation is conducted really well incorporating technology and live anonymous voting to ensure every member, even the shy ones, get their say in deriving a consensus about the group. Overall, I walked away very impressed with Reason and learning new things about my group. 100% recommended to learn concrete insights of groups and their dynamics. read more

My first escape room and we finished with 6 minutes to spare! I went with 12 other coworkers and we all had a blast! I would highly recommend this to everyone! Here is what we did: 8pm - sign in and fill out their waiver. 8:10pm - general information such as don't break or take anything apart, etc. 8:20pm - blindfolded and led into the room. We were given 70 minutes to escape the room. There were so many puzzles that we all sort of split into different groups. It was super techy and fun, there was a drone, a VR set, a 3D printer, and a bunch of other stuff to play with/use to solve the different puzzles. read more

Our team had a blast solving the puzzles to break out of the escape room! We did this as a team bonding activity to kick off the new year and it was incredibly effective. We were able to play with a drone, a 3D printer, virtual reality, and other technologies as part of the puzzles which only made the experience more fun! We got stuck a couple of times and Mike was super friendly and gave gentle guidance that put us on the right path but did not give us the answers...it was perfect! Checked this out over the weekend with a group of 9 friends, and had a pretty good time. For background, most of our group's exposure to escape rooms was limited to SCRAP rooms, so this was a new experience for many of us. I would say: it was quite entertaining. I enjoyed the technology you get to play around with (many things I don't personally get to actually use at home or at work), and they tried to have a good diversity of puzzles with some healthy humor sprinkled into the main "plot" of the room. Our group got a healthy amount of hints, so like some other reviews have stated: you definitely want to be upfront if you want them to give you less hints and make it more challenging. I think by default the level of hints they will give is to almost guarantee a successful escape. So it depends on what you want to get out of it. Our group did successfully escape with over a minute remaining, but I do wonder if it would've been possible at all with less hints... Overall it kind of feels like it was more of a tech demo of different technology that was converted into an escape room. There could use some more polish on the theme and cohesiveness of the puzzles and how they relate to each other, but it was still a great experience and I would heartily recommend it. read more

The place started of as a makers space, and I think all the different technologies they use in the escape room makes it a truly unique experience. You'll be hard pressed to find an escape room that includes as many technologies in the way that Reason does, and still make the escape room run smoothly. Woohoo, We ESCAPED Reason in ~ 2hrs (Dec 16th). We were a team of 7 people and all had plenty of challenges to solve. The room incroparated a lot of interesting technology, such as 3D print, drone, VR, hologram, robot, etc. We definitely had a great time :) :) :) Also, I would give A+++ to Mike @ Reason, he was super friendly, helpful and humble. I heard good things about this escape room before coming with my group of nine friends. I was absolutely blown away by the puzzle design, game flow, and hospitality of the room hosts. As someone who has done over 40 escape rooms, it was great to experience a room with inventive puzzles that required lots of teamwork. In the Bay Area there are lots of large format rooms which are fairly disjointed and leave players feeling frustrated with not enough to do. This room was very cleverly designed to make sure that there were a lot of simultaneous activities while ensuring that everyone worked together. Our gamemasters were very patient, encouraging, and provided an excellent customer service experience. I really enjoyed the humorous backstory behind why you're trying to escape. This room showcases some of the most impressive technology I've seen anywhere. Really excited to try out more of their experiences! read more

The Reactor escape room is a must for beginners to advanced players. It is a variety of fun technology and gadgets, math and word puzzles, and audio and visual coordination. I've done five escape rooms and can easily say this is the best (and most memorable) one so far. The first thing my group noticed was the incorporation of so much cool technology. I don't need this stuff for escape rooms, but the way REASON did it made the game super dynamic. Secondly, there was an abundance of tasks for us all. Most of us worked in pairs and always had something to do. Lastly, there's no dilly-dallying with piecing together or finding clues. This eliminates any frustration and wasted time. What almost made our experiences better was our host, Mike. He was accommodating in getting us a time slot that worked for our party, made player introductions fun, gave us a little more time to solve the puzzle on our own after we failed to escape, and spent time showing us how things were supposed to be solved after the game was over. Mike not only made it possible for us to come but he made it more fun! I highly, highly recommend this room. One can tell that REASON put a lot of thought into this. The minimum amount of people is five, but I recommend that experienced players go with this few people due to the tasks and cost. Beginners and casual players should team up with some advanced people, in my opinion, or have bigger groups. REASON's Silicon Valley Escape is on my list of future rooms to do and I really hope the company comes up with more escape rooms. We went here for a team-building outing and it was super-fun! The set-up, direction that we received, as well as the recap/survey at the end were extremely helpful in understanding how our team functions together. Ultimately, we got to test out cool new technology as well as make our noggins work hard. I particularly loved the mix of tactile, analog and new tech puzzles. This was the best experience i had playing with all the new tech gizmos in an fun intuitive and intellectual way. I clearly shows the granularity and complexity of thought that has been put in by the host to give the users a wonderful experience. I was intrigued by the diversity employed in the use of tech. On one side of the spectrum you get to play with advanced tech like VR goggles and 3D printing while on the other basic morse code and record players appeal to the technologist in you. All in all a great way to learn about the technological development in this day and age. Very conveniently located with lots of parking. I would defiNITELY recommend this place for team building events, Just a casual Friday night group exercise or a fun meet up. Thanks guys for an amazing evening. My team trickled into Reason with only half of us knowing what we were getting ourselves into. The lobby area could have easily fronted for a millenial-owned architectural firm, or a quirky photo studio. We were greeted by an associate who's European accent added to the enigmatic ambiance. She outlined the premise and story of our adventure and eerily tasked with us with saving the city of San Francisco. A few short moments later we were stacked in single-file line, blind folded and slowly led to the "room" where we spent the next 80 minutes engulfed in a multi-sensory experience of cryptic puzzles, strange messages, and hands-on "riddles." As I don't want to spoil the adventure for future "escapees," I do want to share a little about the post-escape experience. The crew at Reason offered us snacks and water, fully knowing that saving the world can be tremendously exhausting. They sat us around a table and led us through a few exercises allowing us to reflect on our experience. It was both informal and enlightening and I recommend it for all who choose to accept this mission. Good luck! read more

Mike and the Reason community are incredible! I highly recommend their company for all team building activities! Reason was my very first escape room, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was blown away with the constant high level of engagement and organization of the entire event. I took about 40 Oakland High School students there on a field trip, and we all had a wonderful time. My students are in the PLTW engineering pathway, and they loved the exposure to different types of tech (VR, drones, holograms, etc.). The escape room contained various puzzles that required teamwork and constant communication. I appreciated that there were enough puzzles to keep all students engaged and that we were offered helpful hints when needed. My students and I debriefed the following school day, and many described the escape room as "challenging but super fun," and some are now interested in designing their own escape rooms. One particular student said that "it was challenging at times, but it never felt impossible because of everyone constantly helping and that nice lady who guided me to clues." While at Reason, students agreed that they felt safe to make mistakes and inspired to get involved. To further elaborate on just how fantastic the Reason team was, our bus was 30 minutes late, but we still had the full allotted time. Then, since our schedule was thrown off, my students had to eat after the escape room, and Mike was kind enough to walk us to the Twitter market place. Overall, Reason blew our expectations out of the water and created a memorable experience for all my students. I look forward to building our relationship with the company! read more

I've done 25+ escape rooms in the San Francisco Bay Area and 50+ in the US and Europe. This review is written in the context of all of the other rooms. This room is constructed within an innovation lab, and the owners are promise (and deliver) on a stream of "future tech" toys that form the core of the puzzles in the escape room. They've historically focused on the enterprise market for team-building, but are expanding into the consumer market too and sharing the game! PUZZLE QUALITY Many of the puzzles involved in this game involve "tasks" to complete using various "future tech" toys that they have around the room. The puzzles here felt more substantial than your usual escape room puzzles, and were pretty fun and novel to experience as a team. PRODUCTION VALUE The toys in the room are expensive and put together well in a room well-suited for the "future technology" theme. The game is fully automated and there are a variety of surprises and cool things that happen once you complete a series of tasks a certain way. OVERALL RATING This escape room is full of cool "future tech" demos embedded within an engaging escape room environment. My main complaint though is that some of the tasks are a bit finicky and might require the involvement of staff to fix it. The price is also quite expensive, which prices it out of the reach of casual players and more in the reach of corporate groups. Because this is an 80-minute experience with a bunch of future tech toys around the room, this room goes beyond the usual escape room formula and should be a lot of fun for your groups of friends and colleagues. TIPS (no spoilers): It can be a bit hard to find the building at first - REASON is inside the building where the side is covered by colorful graffiti and says "Parkside Cleaners". The building is also right across from a Safeway entrance. Peek inside the room to check that you're at the right place! There's a Pokemon GO gym nearby! COMPLETELY AWESOME. This was my first escape room so I don't have a basis for comparison. I did this as a "team building exercise" with my coworkers. They report that the puzzles were more "solvable" than other escape rooms they've done, but at the same time they were challenging & interesting enough to be fun. We were given 70 minutes to escape and finished with 5 minutes to spare. The challenges happened in tandem so we had different groups working on different puzzles simultaneously, and everyone contributed something important to the result. The current challenge revolves around high tech - you'll get to use VR, a drone, and a 3D printer. But the good news is no tech knowledge required - the game gives you everything you need to know. One coworker spent the entire time in a virtual world and different people asked her questions in order to get clues. Another coworker had to learn how to send a message in Morse code. The only bad news is this place only has one challenge, so I'll have to wait until they build a new one this summer. But I'm definitely going back. Highly, highly recommended to anyone who wants a healthy challenge. read more

I had a great time at Reason with a group of work colleagues. I have done a couple of escape rooms in the past, and this one was definitely my favorite! The room was very well done and has high production value while incorporating a lot of new technology that I've heard a lot about, but have never experienced. Without giving away too much, the space is highly interactive, because many of the puzzles operate various switches and triggers to reveal new puzzles. There were plenty of surprises along the way, and each step was well thought out without being overly difficult. I believe that people of all different experience levels would have an amazing time. I'd say that location is a bit out of the way, but there is so much great food around so if you can make time for a meal before or after it definitely makes the trip worthwhile! read more

I organized a 4 hours long workshop for my remote team and I was looking for a fun activity to close the intense morning activity. I went to a physical escape room at Reason in the past and I had a blast, so I was curious to try their virtual offer. It was amazing. 16 people in my team and everyone absolutely loved it and asked if we could do the next one. Moonshot is a great escape room activity. Being limited to a virtual environment has some limitations over a physical escape room such as the experience being very linear and missing the physical exploration side but they made up for this shortcoming exceedingly well by having a great variety of puzzles that include using the web (and discovering a lot of cool websites) or calling real phone numbers. Definitively the team at Reason took the limitation of a virtual environment and built them in a strength, all packaged in a very high-production value experience that everyone could enjoy. On top of that, they have been great at accommodating an early start time to allow my off-shore team to join. What else I could say? 5 star is not enough read more

They created an escape room that really takes everyone paying attention and working together while working on individual puzzles. There were moments of frustration and then moments of celebration. Planned a surprise birthday extravaganza this past weekend for my boyfriend and friends -- first pit stop was Reason! I had been looking for a unique and memorable group activity and Reason caught my eye. They turn "traditional" escape rooms on its head and elevate the experience with a lot of educational and historical context through the use of tech and techniques like ciphers. Mike and Crina did a great job as hosts and were extremely patient with our group and provided hints when appropriate. We had a smaller group to begin with, 7 but ended up conducting most of the game as a group of 5 due to some folks arriving late -- I recommend rallying up a group of 8 or more to able to take on more puzzles in an efficient manner. Just visited the Crash Site room with a group of 11 teens and 3 adults for a bday party. We all had a blast and there was plenty to do. I have been to different escape rooms and this one had the most tech of them all from holograms and VR to a 3D printer. Great to see all the kids working together to get out. This was my second time doing an escape room and had a great time! There were lots of puzzles throughout to ensure our group of 12 never had anyone standing around or not feeling like they could contribute or participate during the whole time. Many puzzles require collaboration, so the experience created good interaction among teams. Groups of 10-15 would be comfortably accommodated. Challenging, tech-oriented and fun outing for a team, family or office group. Happy to report that we escaped. read more

Seriously cannot say enough good things about this escape room. Very well designed! The attention to detail was on a level I've never seen before. It really required our 10-person group to pay attention and collaborate but still gave us all separate challenges to split up and work on.
