I decided to give it a shot and whoa nelly, I am glad I did. After looking over the menu for a while, I selected a plate with four kinds of meat on it. I was a little surprised at the presentation. It was a bed of seasoned fries, covered with brisket, pulled pork, turkey and a 4th meat I can't recall, with the whole plate covered in this spicy cheese sauce. At first I was cautious. I have had brisket at 100 different places, and pulled pork at nearly as many, and it never needed a cheese sauce if it was done right. I started assuming this was a bad choice and I would be hitting MickeyD's after all. But I put fork to meat and then fork to mouth... Oh man, it was good. I've been going to Blythe (yes, as a destination) with my kids for about 8 years. We are river junkies and stay in a local motel just so we can get back out on the nicest, family friendly stretch of the Colorado that's only a 3 hour drive from home. My biggest complaint is that food in Blythe is terrible. I have tried nearly every place in Blythe and have been so frustrated that I can good groceries at the Albertsons, but the restaurants serve brown, wilted lettuce. Last summer, I thought I'd check out the new place in town with my typical Blythe low expectations. What a shocker! A fresh salad? really? Friendly staff? in Blythe? Is it the best BBQ? not likely. Is it the best food in Blythe? Absofrickenlutely! I have been there at least 6 times and go there every time I am in Blythe, even if I'm only passing through. The last 3 times we drove through Blythe, we stopped for lunch at Rebel BBQ. This place serves one of the best Rueben sammies I've eaten. It's a bit messy, but full of slightly charred smokey chunks of pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss and a sweet thousand island-like dressing, in a grilled hoagie roll. Yum! Sides are just ok - thus 4 stars, not 5. I've tried the Mac and cheese and coleslaw. BF orders the half rack of ribs, which is a huge portion. This last visit, his order consisted of 9 bones! BBQ'd meat is their specialty for a reason. The side dishes (I had roasted red potatoes, corn chowder, house salad, cheese fries, and garlic toast) were okay but nothing to write home about, with the exception of the garlic toast. Crisp, buttery, and garlicky goodness in every bite! The ribs are dry rubbed so ask for a side of BBQ sauce if you are used to it. My sister had the brisket and it was tender and obviously seasoned carefully with herbs and spices, but not salted. There is a counter with a tray of condiments, including pepperoncinis, to up your spice ante as you wish. A few words for the wise: - You know how some people get unnecessarily upset when you confuse "you're" and "your"? Don't bring those people here, because the use of "R" as a substitute on the menu for "our" will drive them into eye-twitching grammar police insanity. I know, because my sister and I are both those people. We chalked it up to local charm and sat with our backs to the mangled "R"-infested menu. - Billboard top 40s are blared, so prepare for a suppertime serenade by Justin Bieber. On the other hand, they do have a dedicated Student Menu...double win for tweens with Bieber Fever. One of the highlights of our dinner was the owner and staff, who were ridiculously kind! I stopped here on the way to Phoenix, and I'm so glad I did. You exit the 10 on Lovekin, head North, and it'll be on your left side across from Carls Jr. The people manning the place are young and super friendly, and I felt immediately welcomed. The menu is pretty extensive, but I figured I'd listen to other Yelpers and try the sandwiches. I got the pulled pork and beef brisket, with sides of jalapeño potato salad and smoky Mac&Cheese. Between me and my gf, the amount was perfect, and was a good value for $14.70. I preferred the pork, stuffed with juicy, tender deliciousness, which we topped with a load of their house BBQ sauce (They give you a separate container of sauce, so you can adjust the amount). Don't get me wrong, the brisket was still pretty damn good. The potato salad was tasty, packing the occasional punch from the jalapeños. The Mac and cheese could be better, so I may try another option next time I drop by. I hope more people check out these reviews and stop by Rebel. It's hard to come by a place along the arduous LA-Phoenix drive with food that oh-so hits the spot (I gave +1 because the other options in Blythe, like fast foods, suck). read more

This place made me finally stop lurking and sign up on yelp to review it. Blythe is pretty bleak... not much going on if you have to stop here for any reason. After camping out in the local mountains for the night, this place was well worth wandering into. I had the pastrami, and yeah, it's good. Good sized chunks of smoked tender pastrami. Slightly fatty, but oh so tender. It comes in a hoagie roll with a pickle and a choice of one side. I ate here twice over the weekend and had the sandwich both times. To sum up- Awesome pastrami, great service from the girls working there, and bar none the best food I've eaten in Blythe. If you need to eat in Blythe, don't miss it. read more

WOW...... I visited this place over the weekend and was thoroughly surprised by just how darn good the place is. the Pastrami was bar none the best I have ever had, thick generous cuts wrapped up in a wonderful roll. I also tried the brisket sandwich, which they could just call "a pound of meat with two loves a bread". This thing was a monstrous heaping, delicious mess of heaven. Great little BBQ place in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Fun place but most important fantastic BBQ. I wanted I a pulled pork BBQ sandwich the waitress encouraged me to try the Piglet with the grilled coleslaw. I wasn't sure as I am not a huge coleslaw fan. She explained it was caramelized into the sandwich. So glad I took her recommendation. It was amazing. That along with their homemade chips. I will definitely go back. I stopped here on a pit stop en route to Phoenix. A place with a smoker out front draws an intrigue that it cranks out good BBQ. Unfortunately this place didn't meet those standards. My dad and I spilt a pulled pork sandwich, and what we got was more of a chopped pork sandwich on a hoagie. The hoagie was nice and fresh, but the pork itself was under seasoned at best. Their BBQ sauce is solid, tangy with a hint of kick and I can tell you I had to slater the sandwich in BBQ sauce which saved the sandwich from being borderline passable. Great beer prices, 3.50 for domestic (can't beat for a boy who lives in Los Angeles). The decor is basic and dated but charming in a weird open road sort of way. You order at the cashier and food is then brought to you. For being a sole option for BBQ in a pit stop like town you get what you get and don't get upset. If I ever stop in Blythe again and aren't hell bent on BBQ, head to a Mexican restaurant. If you want to stop for cheap beer, it's a great spot. read more

Usually I blame alcohol on lofty reviews, of so-so places but, since RBBQ doesn't sell any alcohol, I'm going with fat. French fries are covered in cheese and up to 4 kinds of meat. Pulled pork sandwiches topped with bacon. Perhaps it is the best restaurant in Blythe but that is a low bar. I believe the owners saw a need for bbq in Blythe rather than bbq aficionados who just had to show the world the best possible food. The meats were serviceable, the sauce and sides were as bad as I've had at any BBQ joint. These guys need to go to some competitions and learn about good slaw, potato salad and sauces. I got the pulled pork sandwich because I didn't see the brisket and I usually don't like pulled pork and use to always ask myself, why didn't I get the beef brisket. Traveling between phoenix and california and need a place to eat some good food and charge your cell phone? With a nice assortment of barbeque sandwiches and 5 outlets on the wall, rebel bbq fits your travel needs like a line of coke in Whitney houston's nostrel. While traveling through the desert, in the middle of butt f*ck nowhere our way back to california, our hunger really got to us. The storms had subsided but the thunder in our stomaches had just began. Stopping in blythe for a bite seemed our only option. The server was friendly and had good recommendations for us - the bbq beef briscuit. It came on a hoagie bun with thin cut strips of delicious slow cooked briscuit. The sandwiches were great and the bbq sauce was excuisite. Three of the four of us had the briscuit but my sister went with the mexi bit burrito (she's practically mexican). The burrito was pretty mediocre. For those of you who enjoy nascar it appears to be a favorite on tv here. You might also enjoy the southern burrito which has an assortment of heart attack prone ingredients. None of us ordered it but its supposedly pretty good. As for the sides, between the 4 of us we had either the jalapeno potato salad or the smokin' macaroni. While I'm not typically a big potato salad fan I found it quite tasty and with a kick attributed to the jalapenos. My sister enjoyed the smokin macaroni but felt the "smokin" in the title was a bit misleading; it really needed some jalapeno or another chile to hit the spot. Another plus was that mcdonalds was right next door making for a nice ice cream or mcflurry dessert desert after your mouth watering meal at rebels bbq. As a side note the service at mcdonalds was crappy. The attendant who took our order had no sense of humor and wore way too much eyeliner. But back to Rebel BBQ, I would recommend this joint to anyone passing through Blythe. Its a darn shame that this placed has to be lumped in with this sh*thole city. read more

Easy on the barque sauce so you get the full taste of the Bar-b-que. the creamy slaw is not real flavorful but I like the distinct flavors of onion and spices - this had more of a mayonnaise taste. Great relief from the miles and miles of fast food options on the Phoenix to Orange County/Los Angeles drive. Stopped there in June (see: 100+ degrees outside) and ate in the car so our dogs could have A/C and not overheat. The manager saw us in the parking lot and offered to bring the dogs water. People couldn't have been nicer and the food was great. For what it is - a clean, affordable fast food respite during a long and hot road trip - it definitely gets 5 stars. read more

My wife and I spent the night in Blythe and found RBBQ on Yelp. The riff that kept playing was the Pastrami, so I got a sandwich. Are you freakin' kidding? The Pastrami at RBBQ is nuts. Got to talk to the head guy and he tells me they smoke it for 12 hours. Look. If you EVER go to the river, you need to hit this spot. Order a pastrami sandwich. You get a side. I got cole slaw, which was decent, not world class, but if you know where you can get better pastrami in LA -- don't say Langers or The Hat -- lemme know! I'm a local boy and am glad to see a BBQ joint nearby. With that being said let me say the food is pretty good for ole' B-Town. Meats are cooked just right and the sauces are amazing! The customer service is on point as well, which is usually a tall order in Blythe. Downside: What is up with the burger? The choice of a "birote", or Mexican roll, sounds like a neat idea for a bun. Too bad they ordered the miniature version that is slightly larger than a dinner roll. Add to that a miniature beef patty, shaved red onion and some sort of micro greens and you have a BBQ burger that leaves you scratching your head. My 9 year old son even noted it was too small and asked if he could get a McDouble at McDonalds afterwards. Want a side of fries with your burger? Forget it. Hope you like cold side dishes like potato salad or pasta salad. Potatoes undercooked in salad? You bet. Funny thing is they have a dish which uses French fries, but the owner refuses to sell it as a side dish. The skinny: The only place to go with good tasting BBQ ready in a jiff. Prices a bit high for the sandwiches with tiny sides of lackluster salads/pastas. Stopped in to order to go and get back on the road. Got two of the exact same sandwich. We ordered two bbq pork sandwiches. When we got back in the car, my fiance ate his immediately. I opened mine, and it was chicken. Not only was it wrong, it was the blandest thing I've ever eaten. I got one bite of his pork sandwich, and it was actually pretty good. But the chicken was terrible, and I'm so upset we are too far down the road to turn back. Even our receipt is correct. But our order was wrong. Never stopping there again. The food was bland and the service mediocre. It was overpriced for what we got. $8 for the pulled pork sandwich and $9 for the beef brisket plus an extra $1.45 for fries. I got the mac n cheese as a side and it was ok. The fries were fresh but there was some sweet seasoning on them which I didn't like. My pulled pork sandwich wasn't warm enough and I had to put A LOT of BBQ sauce on it to give it flavor. My husband liked the beef brisket sandwich but said it lacked flavor too. My boyfriend and I stopped in to grab a bite on our drive from LA to Phoenix. We always try to support small family owned businesses and by the time you read all of this you'll understand why. When we first walked in the two girls at the register were so friendly and when asked what their favorites were they got excited when I said it was our first time. They offered up plenty of recommendations including their pastrami sandwich and the jalapeño potato salad. We ordered to-go because they were about to close but they said we could eat outside on their patio area. First off the carry out was packed meticulously with napkins, plastic wear, and our sides with BBQ sauce too. The pastrami melted in my mouth along with the fresh bread and melted cheese. Now here's where they stand out even more, I accidentally left my wallet there. When I called this morning the owner offered to mail it overnight and won't even take the cash in there to pay for shipping. He has definitely restored my faith in humanity. My husband and I have been going to Blythe since the late 1990's because we like boating the lower river with fewer crowds and warmer water. During our trip on July 2, 2011, as we were getting off the freeway, we noticed this place. We both did a double take and said to each other that this was a place we wanted to try. We were not disappointed. The employees were very nice. The food: E X C E L L E N T. The prices very fair. The portions perfect. The bread is made locally and very good...soft but not soggy. We have both been to places where they serve their bbq style sandwiches on hamburger buns or sandwich rolls that are too hard on the outside and they break apart too easily. We liked it so much that we went back the next night. We wish the owner of this great little place the very best success. It is so nice to have another place to go eat that it not traditional fast food junk or tasteless mexican style fare. We hope that when we return this place is still in business. It was definitely worth the stop in comparison to the alternatives. Not 5 stars because I've had better BBQ but this was very good and in an unexpected stop. Pulled pork sandwich melts in your mouth & they serve their really good bbq sauce on the side so you can sauce at your own liking... The creamy slaw was delicious but the mac n cheese was sub-par compared to the rest of my meal, the taste was just OK but the appearance looked a little gross and curdly. Just had a very pleasant lunch here with my parents. We ordered the St. Louis Ribs 1/2 Rack and Pulled Pork sandwich. No complaints here! The sandwich was juicy, and delicious when doused with barbecue sauce. The portion was good as well, which is especially nice when you're making a lunch stop during a long drive. The ribs were above average. The meat was kind of bland, but the barbecue sauce again added the extra kick. The jalapeño potato salad was really good, with just enough spiciness. Overall, this is a good option in an area full of corporate fast food joints. The BEST food stop on the way between Phoenix and LA! Stopped by with my wife and three kids. I had the Pulled Pork sandwich and Jalapeño Potato Salad... both excellent. The potato salad had a touch of spice but not hot at all. The kids had the Mac and Cheese side (same size as the "meal" but only $1.50) and gobbled it up. Wife had the Cuban pork sandwich and vinegar slaw, both great. Five of us ate for about $20... and the meal and service were awesome. Definitely making it a regular stop. read more

Burger patty, pulled pork, grilled onions, grilled jalapenos, and pepper-jack cheese on a hoagie roll. So my first instinct was....'this place is a bit pricy. Hope it's worth the money!' Holly smokes, it's so worth the money! I had the kids brisket sandwich and it was WAY more than enough. My 3 kids shared the ribs and they couldn't finish the rack. Yeah, they should have finished it but it was too much food! Hubby had the 'Hot As Hell Burger' and had nothing left over!! Either he was really hungry or it was really good. Again, thought the fried had too much salt but their seasoning was perfect. Staff was great, place was clean, and service was fast. From the long road from Phoenix to LA....there aren't many food choices unless you can stand settling for the same ol' dumpy fast food chains. This is the kind of place I search for when I'm on road trips, and I believe they are a dying breed in small towns -fresh, unique, privately owned. Don't settle for the toxic garbage next door (McQueezy's, Carl's, Del Taco...) and check this place out instead. This was the worst BBQ ever. including my grandmothers... who is from Colombia. The chilled kosher pickle spear was very refreshing. The young lady at the counter was pleasant and glad to chat while she worked.
