Outstanding INXS cover band. This is a fun venue very intimate. My ears hurt this morning cause it was a little loud. Of course the band started an hour late. The bartenders were great. The people were very unique of all ages. There's plenty of room if you wanted to move around or dance. The doorman were definitely intimidating honestly but I don't know why it wasn't that kind of a crowd. Didn't try any food. read more

This is a great venue for a smaller show. I attended a themed DJ night here. I love their theme nights, there's always something for everyone. The venue is a little smaller but it wasn't too crowded at all. It's very close to the streetcar stop and there's many food options in the crossroads or power and light that are walkable. Cool venue for a small show! It was packed and there isn't really any seating, but that was mostly expected.

RecordBar is a fun little live music venue in KC where you can see great small bands and local acts for a reasonable price. Every show I've been to has had a small crowd, so there has been plenty of room, but the bar is a little weirdly placed next to the standing room area in front of the stage, so it can get a little congested. There are some tables and booths in the back if you don't want to stand. Parking isn't exactly easy in this area just a bit south of Power & Light. You'll have to find street parking, or you can walk from the Power & Light parking garages. read more

I first experienced this place a few years ago at a Snotrockets show. It was my buddy Doug Medlock's 50th birthday. He's in the band. Then I went for The Bygones and it was a trip to be here again. My wife and I very much enjoyed the show!! The staff was super kind and friendly. Doormen, security, bartenders...all were fantastic! Kindness is rare and they all had it in spades. The bar staff was super attentive and made us some excellent drinks. I only had one since I was driving, but my wife enjoyed her 3 Rose Kennedys. This is a GREAT spot for live music! Would love a chair or stool next time, but you gotta go EARLY for that!! Parking can be tough, but we found a semi-legit spot and didn't get towed. ;) read more

Saw Bridge City Sinners here the other night, It is a great venue to have that intimate experience. The venue is on the smaller size and has a full size bar. There is an upstairs balcony with a few tables and chairs. Plenty of restroom even during band change over there never was a line for the mens. One small negative I saw which is me being picky, There is really no good flow for the Merch line how they had it set up. Line was spread throughout the venue it was hard to find who was in line and who was not. Sound and lighting of the verue were great. Bar staff were quick to get drinks out. read more

Hadn't been here since they moved from Westport to downtown. I was impressed with the 'new' digs. Love that they require a recent negative Covid test or a vaccination card upon entry. Made me feel comfortable to enjoy a drink (3 actuallly haha) while watching the show. Bartenders were friendly and fast. Really nice bathrooms too- clean and spacious. This is a big deal for a music venue. As a life long music fan who's been to hundreds of shows, I definitely have some horror stories about bathrooms at clubs! read more

I have a real love / hate relationship with the new Record Bar. They book some great talent; local and touring. I have attended some awesome shows by Nick Waterhouse, Bob Walkenhorst, Pinback, Jonathan Richman, Mike Doughty, Found A Job and The Twilight Hours here. Each time the place has been packed beyond comfort. The space in front of the stage quickly fills up and overflows into the aisle in front of the bar, making it damn near impossible to get a drink if you are not one of the fortunate standing at the bar. The upstairs is awesome if you get there early and can get a space to stand next to the rail, if not you won't see a thing. I usually end up beside the stage, close to the band but a terrible side view, but better than 30 people deep in the back. I much prefer Knuckleheads. read more

Ladies and gentlemen, the band is back together. The divey and sometimes grungy old bar you knew and loved back in the day has grown up and grown in to its new digs in the Crossroads, just south of Downtown. The new spot not only offers a bunch of new space and spectacular sight lines, including an upper level above the bar for big shows, but it also features an upgraded stage and an upgraded sound and lighting system. Whoever you come to see is going to look and sound good. As of this writing, the venue is working on its kitchen and from what I hear, revamping its menu a bit. When they get up and going, you're still going to have those tasty pizzas and gangsta wraps, but I hear there are some exciting new dishes on the way as well. A couple of very very small things... the venue is working out the kinks of transforming from a restaurant into a music venue. Sometimes you might end up having to walk in front of or in between tables and chairs during a show. It's not a bad thing and they're getting better day by day, but you might keep this in mind and arrive a little earlier to make sure you get a good spot up by the stage. Also, this isn't the venue's fault, but parking can be a little rough on busy nights. On the flipside, a street car stop is only two blocks away and Uber is fairly inexpensive depending where you're riding. Now that we're all squared away, I hope you come out to see a show and enjoy yourself. I also hope you bring your appetite and your ear plugs. read more

Went to see The Crane Wives with my daughters and had a good time. It was a great surprise that those with mobility aids were let in about 10 minuets early. I think the cumulative 3.5 stars rating is appropriate. Went to see a show of an up and coming band from Manchester. They obviously have a bit of a following, given the crowd that showed up early after the doors opened at 7pm. The staff was friendly enough, at the door and at the bar. Prices at the bar was reasonable. $7 pints of the local porter on tap was very good! The cheeseburger was ok. It was a bit salty, but then it is a bar. The fries were crispy and tasty. The opening act played for 30 minutes and the main band played for maybe an hour? Is that what passes for a show these days? I liked their sound, but really?!? The entire show (both bands) started at 8pm and ended at 9:30 pm. Bit disappointed. I remember when Recordbar opened at this current location and had the wonderful Victor & Penny play one of the initial dates. The space has matured and looks polished now. Online it stated the show started at 6:00 pm. I came from three hours away and had to jump through hoops to get here on time only to be told the show starts at 8:00. BS!!!!! Somebody lied on the starting time and those of us who care enough to be here early are getting screwed. Doorman said it was standard operating procedures to lie to the public like this. Start your shows when you say you are going to start them. If you are trying to protect those that can't get to the venue on time... screw them. Never will be back to this place . Also wouldn't work with us for a refund. Sounds like lack of communication on a couple parties parts. I did speak to the owner who tried to accommodate us with a refund but we already waited an hour and 30 minutes so we are here to stay. Very frustrated. read more

Check out the lineup at recordBar - a great way to see national tours passing north-south and east-west. I saw Chaos Chaos this week. Amazing. Their music is fresh, performed tight. The energy is authentic - not a theatrical stunt to get the audience engaged. The music on its own does that. The live show takes the music to the next level. This is all made possible by the professional-grade venue at recordBar. Excellent sound management from Paul. I carry earplugs just in case there's a whacked balance in a room, but no need here. You get all the good, and none of the bad, so I could groove on those Chaos Chaos tracks, loud and clear. Food was done right, too. I had the double-cheese burger. Juicy, spicy on a soft bun. Fries. Standard fare that tasted great. Priced right at $12, with excellent service. Pull up a chair and enjoy. read more

Stopped in for brunch one weekend and come to find out they have an amazing Reuben for my husband's quest for the best Reuben in kC. Walking in, I was pleased with how neat the inside is and it makes me want to come back during one of their shows. I got the chicken and waffles and let me just say it was amazing!! My hubbys reuben was delicious as well! We were so pleased with everything from the coffee to the fruit to our service. Our waitress was nice, friendly, and informative. They book good performers, but the people who run this place are not great at it. Case in point, they had to push doors back by an hour tonight from what it said on all the tickets, which is annoying but fine--stuff happens. But the issue was no one who works there said literally anything to the 60-70 people standing in 90 degree heat for an extra hour until, moments before the doors finally opened, a guy who worked there came outside to berate a guy in line because he had left a bad review about the experience from the line, lmao. Overhearing that truly awkward interaction is the only reason I knew the show was actually officially pushed back and not just running behind schedule. Truly goofy and weird behavior. Delays happen, but maybe next time just put up a sign explaining the situation or voluntarily tell people in line before they've already waited an hour and are annoyed? read more

After ordering about 4 drinks for and my friend who was playing in the band for free for owners birthday party, i tipped well but was continuously asked if i wanted to start a tab. My friends and I went to check out a few bands that were playing that night, and it was a real chill vibe. The bands that were playing had a very psychedelic, spacey vibe and they were pretty small, so the crowd wasn't that wild. Getting in was kind of annoying - if you are a minor they charge $2 more per person, and if you are paying by card they charge 50 more cents. The guy who we were paying also did not seem to be very organized and overcharged us (we went and got some money back when we realized). The venue is pretty great, though. The lighting is what you would expect from a hip place like this, and they had extra chairs you could get from the back so we all were able to sit. If you are looking for an intense crowd, I think this place does get packed on nights that more popular bands play - my friend came last year and he said that there was not really any room to sit or move around in. The service was also quick and friendly. We didn't have any food, but my friend ordered a vodka red bull and they made it pretty strong; my other friend ordered a can of beer and they only charged $3 for it. This place has reasonably priced options if you are coming in and just want to buy something to sip on. 4 stars because they charge extra for minors, and the sound system was not super impressive. However, I would come again just to chill at this cool venue and support new artists! Also, parking was really easy - found a parallel spot a block or two away from the place, and it was free since it was after 6 PM. read more

Was excited to see Nick Waterhouse at this little joint. Website said show starred at 8 pm so we arrived at 7pm. Doors were locked. Staff member came out and told us they had a staffing issue and doors would not open until 8 pm, Waterhouse would start at 9. So, we found a place to have a few drinks and walked back over at 9. Sign posted outside read Waterhouse would start at 10:15. WTF? Very rude door guy said they never post exact show times on the web. Oh, but they did! Again, WTF? Don't waste your time on this place. CRAPPY STAFF WHO CANT MANAGE TO PLAN THEIR WAY OUT OF A WET PAPER BAG!! Update 2/20-It's been a few years since my last review of Record Bar. I had not been back since last night. KCUR hosts a trivia night here, so my friends and I gave it another chance. I will say this for Record Bar; they are certainly consistent. The service was just as awful as it was a few years ago. For trivia, you must reserve a spot. We were a party of four, so I reserved four spots. Clearly, counting is not their forte. There were not enough tables set up to accommodate the number of reservations. Strike one. My husband and I, along with one friend, arrived a bit before the fourth person in our party and headed to the bar for a drink. The bartender, if you can call him that, stood leaning against the back of the bar and simply glared at us. Didn't move, didn't ask if we'd like a drink. Strike two. When the fourth person in our party arrived, the dude at the door wouldn't let her in, asking if she had a "ticket". Huh? They didn't give "tickets" to this event. So, she stood out in the cold and had to call me to come to the door. Strike three. Seriously, get your act together, hire people who have at least SOME idea of what customer service is, and get the hell over yourselves. This place is forever off my list. Just horrible. read more

New space. Same old attitude. After getting booted out of their old building in Westport, the Recordbar took over the building which previously housed 1%. In my opinion, it's for the better. This version of Recordbar feels much more spacious. They even have a balcony (and a separate balcony bar). Sound seems a bit better, too. Overall, a great improvement. Random things: Since this is the old 1% club, the bathrooms are super fancy compared to your regular KC concert venue. I'm talking bathroom stalls with frosted glass doors. The two times I was there they hadn't had any taps up yet. Just a keg of Boulevard Wheat that looked like a temporary set up. Not sure what the plan is there. I've tripped up the stairs to the merch booth area twice now. Those things need to be lit. Or maybe I shouldn't drink and buy merch. read more

Went to a concert here. It is the middle of summer so it is already close to 90 degrees outside but inside might have been even hotter! There was zero air circulation inside of the building. They had no A/C or any fans blowing air around and made it feel like being in a furnace for 3 hours. I've never sweat that much in any building before. I though about leaving a couple of times during the concert just to get some fresh air. On top of that they way over packed the building to an unsafe level. I will not be attending anymore concerts at this venue. read more

Won tickets to see Lúnasa and was really looking forward to it. The info said the door opens at 6PM and concert at 7PM. I get downtown early to find a spot to park many blocks from the venue was the only place I could find a free spot. Walked the several blocks by myself. Got there and the manager saw me standing outside alone. He wouldn't acknowledge me so I called from my cell. He answered and I told him what the info had said and he told me that the doors wouldn't open now until 7 and the concert at 8. Advised I'm a female alone outside and that my info sent to me said open at 6, concert 7. He was rude and reiterated the incorrect information he was now giving. Several others began to show up with the same info. One man said they do this stuff all the time, changing times and not advertising it. Others said I should have checked Yelp to see the bad reviews about this. Someone came along and opened the door and we all went it. We were met by an extremely RUDE man, saying he was the manager and that we were all wrong, although we had all seen the same information. He rudely pulled up something on his computer and told us it had given different times. He had changed it and now he has changed it again to say the concert starts at 9PM!!!!! Told one woman, who disagreed with him stating the fact that the info online had said open at 6, concert at 7 and he told her "GET OUT!! YOU WON"T BE ALLOWED BACK IN!" I've never seen such obnoxious behavior from a so-called manager in my life. Several of us left, never to return again. Beware of believing any times listed by this venue and of the extremely rude behavior of management. UNBELIEVABLY BaD EXPERIENCE!!! read more

We saw Nothing but Thieves and The Wreck opened for them. Record Bar provides an intimate setting for live music. The service was great. The crowd was pretty large and very well behaved. The acoustics were perfect. The bands were available after the show to take pictures...Awesome. I'm from St Louis, and the trip to Kansas City was worth it. We discovered how hip, cool, attractive and innovative Kansas City is. I'll be back to this venue ! read more
