    The Bygones
    Dustin E.

I first experienced this place a few years ago at a Snotrockets show. It was my buddy Doug Medlock's 50th birthday. He's in the band. Then I went for The Bygones and it was a trip to be here again. My wife and I very much enjoyed the show!! The staff was super kind and friendly. Doormen, security, bartenders...all were fantastic! Kindness is rare and they all had it in spades. The bar staff was super attentive and made us some excellent drinks. I only had one since I was driving, but my wife enjoyed her 3 Rose Kennedys. This is a GREAT spot for live music! Would love a chair or stool next time, but you gotta go EARLY for that!! Parking can be tough, but we found a semi-legit spot and didn't get towed. ;)

Great venue to see Cleopatrick, one of my fave bands

Hadn't been here since they moved from Westport to downtown. I was impressed with the 'new' digs. Love that they require a recent negative Covid test or a vaccination card upon entry. Made me feel comfortable to enjoy a drink (3 actuallly haha) while watching the show. Bartenders were friendly and fast. Really nice bathrooms too- clean and spacious. This is a big deal for a music venue. As a life long music fan who's been to hundreds of shows, I definitely have some horror stories about bathrooms at clubs!

eXTC performance in March 2023 was a once in a lifetime treat. I loved every minute of it!!!!

Best place to see live music. Intimate setting with great acoustics. If you haven't been here to see a live show - I highly encourage you add this to your bucket list.

Fantastic people - great staff - wow, what a team. Very kind, working like a well oiled machine. Nice customers hanging out at a music venue I haven't seen since the old days at the Grand Emporium (many many years ago before they changed it). Anyway... The Record Bar is a blast, I've only been this one time but WOW! Did I mention FUN, SUPER LOW PRICES, KIND/NICE PEOPLE (staff & patrons). I'm an old guy and the Bowie Band was right on - they killed it. See The Band That Fell to Earth if you get a chance. More from me at our vinyl review website www.Vinylclubamerica.com

Went here to check out Sheven and My Posse in Effect (Beastie Boys tribute band) and had a blast. The bouncers were friendly and getting drink service was a breeze. We found a spot at the bar next to the stage and didn't feel overly crowded through out the night. The sound system was decent too. I plan on being back to check out other bands.

I have a real love / hate relationship with the new Record Bar. They book some great talent; local and touring. I have attended some awesome shows by Nick Waterhouse, Bob Walkenhorst, Pinback, Jonathan Richman, Mike Doughty, Found A Job and The Twilight Hours here. Each time the place has been packed beyond comfort. The space in front of the stage quickly fills up and overflows into the aisle in front of the bar, making it damn near impossible to get a drink if you are not one of the fortunate standing at the bar. The upstairs is awesome if you get there early and can get a space to stand next to the rail, if not you won't see a thing. I usually end up beside the stage, close to the band but a terrible side view, but better than 30 people deep in the back. I much prefer Knuckleheads.

Ladies and gentlemen, the band is back together. The divey and sometimes grungy old bar you knew and loved back in the day has grown up and grown in to its new digs in the Crossroads, just south of Downtown. The new spot not only offers a bunch of new space and spectacular sight lines, including an upper level above the bar for big shows, but it also features an upgraded stage and an upgraded sound and lighting system. Whoever you come to see is going to look and sound good. As of this writing, the venue is working on its kitchen and from what I hear, revamping its menu a bit. When they get up and going, you're still going to have those tasty pizzas and gangsta wraps, but I hear there are some exciting new dishes on the way as well. A couple of very very small things... the venue is working out the kinks of transforming from a restaurant into a music venue. Sometimes you might end up having to walk in front of or in between tables and chairs during a show. It's not a bad thing and they're getting better day by day, but you might keep this in mind and arrive a little earlier to make sure you get a good spot up by the stage. Also, this isn't the venue's fault, but parking can be a little rough on busy nights. On the flipside, a street car stop is only two blocks away and Uber is fairly inexpensive depending where you're riding. Now that we're all squared away, I hope you come out to see a show and enjoy yourself. I also hope you bring your appetite and your ear plugs.

It's filling up quickly on a Thursday night!

I think the cumulative 3.5 stars rating is appropriate. Went to see a show of an up and coming band from Manchester. They obviously have a bit of a following, given the crowd that showed up early after the doors opened at 7pm. The staff was friendly enough, at the door and at the bar. Prices at the bar was reasonable. $7 pints of the local porter on tap was very good! The cheeseburger was ok. It was a bit salty, but then it is a bar. The fries were crispy and tasty. The opening act played for 30 minutes and the main band played for maybe an hour? Is that what passes for a show these days? I liked their sound, but really?!? The entire show (both bands) started at 8pm and ended at 9:30 pm. Bit disappointed. I remember when Recordbar opened at this current location and had the wonderful Victor & Penny play one of the initial dates. The space has matured and looks polished now. Perhaps the acts should be polished too?

Check out the lineup at recordBar - a great way to see national tours passing north-south and east-west. I saw Chaos Chaos this week. Amazing. Their music is fresh, performed tight. The energy is authentic - not a theatrical stunt to get the audience engaged. The music on its own does that. The live show takes the music to the next level. This is all made possible by the professional-grade venue at recordBar. Excellent sound management from Paul. I carry earplugs just in case there's a whacked balance in a room, but no need here. You get all the good, and none of the bad, so I could groove on those Chaos Chaos tracks, loud and clear. Food was done right, too. I had the double-cheese burger. Juicy, spicy on a soft bun. Fries. Standard fare that tasted great. Priced right at $12, with excellent service. Pull up a chair and enjoy.

Even walking in, we weren't quite sure what to expect. The entrance is small, and you're greeted right away, which was a nice touch. Once inside, it's very dark with deep red lighting--almost like stepping into a cave. It took a moment for our eyes to adjust, but once they did, we immediately felt at ease. The space is cozy and perfectly aligned with its purpose: it's all about the jazz. The service was great--welcoming, attentive, and added to the overall experience without taking away from the music. And the music? Absolutely captivating. It pulls you in and transports you--you can't help but settle into the vibe and just enjoy the moment together. We went on a Monday, so there was plenty of seating, but I noticed there's also a lower level that likely accommodates larger weekend crowds. There's a solid drink menu and a small selection of food, but honestly, this isn't the place you come for a full meal. Come for the drinks, stay for the music, and soak in the atmosphere.

Quinn XCII Concert Sponsored by Fresh Karma…read more This was truly an awful and saddening experience. It was not communicated prior that there would be opening acts and Quinn XCII would not be performing until 3 and a half hours later after the doors opened. Especially on a hot summer day I am appalled by the Fresh Karma staff and communication. While we were waiting for 3+ hours for Quinn XCII to preform, the girl next to us proceeded to pass out and then start aggressively vomit. We are in the middle of the crowd. We proceeded to get help and alert the Fresh Karma staff. We seemed to interrupt and annoy them as they were busy smoking and passing joints when we sought medical assistance. 10 minutes later, a staff member proceeded to come after we had already gotten her water and fanning her from heat exhaustion (I'm sure she had been drinking too). After your staff escorted the lady out, no one from your staff cleaned up the excessive vomit in the middle of the venue. So, my friends and I proceeded to wait another couple hours with the vomit cooking in the heat for Quinn XCII. I have seen Quinn XCII before and his performance and timeliness was nothing close to this awful evening/night. I know I am sharing a quite angry experience, but I hope this feedback gets to the right people for improvement.

Incident Details: Time/Location: Saturday, May 16, 2026, at approximately 7:30 PM at the back entrance of T-Mobile Center during the UMKC graduation. What Happened: I exited and attempted to re-enter through the back entrance. I was stopped by security and told I could not re-enter. At the same time, I personally witnessed a white family being allowed to re-enter through that same entrance without issue. I was singled out and denied the same access granted to others. Escalation: When I asked to speak to a supervisor, my request was ignored by security. A KCPD officer on site then threatened me with arrest simply for asking for a supervisor. I was not disruptive, threatening, or violating any posted policy. Staff Involved: I do not have badge numbers or names. The security staff and KCPD officer involved can be identified via security camera footage from the back entrance at approximately 7:30 PM on May 16, 2026. I request that this footage be preserved immediately. My Concerns: Discrimination: Denying me re-entry while allowing a white family to re-enter is disparate treatment based on race. This violates Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Missouri Human Rights Act §213.065 RSMo, which prohibit discrimination in places of public accommodation. Intimidation by Law Enforcement: Threatening arrest for requesting a supervisor is retaliatory and an abuse of authority. Premises Liability: Under Missouri law, T-Mobile Center has a duty to ensure its agents treat invitees lawfully and without discrimination. Requested Resolution: Immediate preservation and review of all security footage from the back entrance at approximately 7:30 PM on May 16, 2026. Identification of and investigation into the security staff and KCPD officer involved. Written response within 10 business days detailing findings and corrective actions, including anti-discrimination training. Written apology for the treatment I received at my son's graduation. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and that all relevant video and records will be retained pending investigation. This was my son's college graduation. No parent should be subjected to racism and police threats on a day meant for celebration. Michelle

Recently, I went to the Knuckleheads Garage to see the Texas Headhunters, which is a newer band featuring my favorite guitar player and singer Ian Moore. They had a great opening act that was a local band from Kansas City. I liked that the drinks were affordable and super cold. I got a tall Quirk for $8. Beers were similarly priced. Later in the evening, I got hungry and scored a hotdog for six dollars. The whole place is cash only. Be advised you will not tap to pay. They have an ATM on site if you need cash.
