I love this place because of the chill, borderline hole in the wall vibes, and the prices. The decor is pretty cool, and there's an arcade in the back. I came on a Monday afternoon and a Saturday afternoon, and both times were a vibe. They played mostly hip hop, but the music selections were on point. You CANNOT beat the $10 hookah!!! The pineapple hookah was really good and it didn't have a burnt flavor to it. I also tried the $6 catfish brunch special. The catfish was HUGE, fresh, and very tasty along with the fries. On Monday, my bill for 4 drinks, 2 catfish brunch specials, and hookah came out to $54. The customer service is just middle of the road--not outstanding, but not terrible. What a vibe. Yes, the food isn't gourmet, but the place is so much fun! There are so many unique seating arrangements, lots of tvs, and a variety of food options that are VERY AFFORDABLE (okra, wings, salmon, catfish). The bar has plenty of seating and there is a separate area divided by glass, where for a nominal fee you can enter to hear spoken word poetry or a dj playing on the weekends. They have free wifi and you can bring your laptop and work or just chill. They have a food menu, and although I didn't eat, the food I did see and the smells from the kitchen have me wanting to go back and try - when I do I will update this review. So I will say this, the space is very nice. The service on the other hand not great at all. We had to wait 40 minutes to retrieve our food (appetizer )because of only one server in the entire restaurant. We ordered mozzarella stick and a salmon salad. Now the mozzarella sticks came out, the waiter comes place them on the table and walks away. Never asked if it was ok, which it was not because they were Luke warm to the point the cheese was solid again. It also didn't have the marinara sauce with it! The waiter didn't come back to see us for another 15 minutes. So I just ate all of them because I assumed at some point I would see her. When the salad came out it was a dry salad with no dressing on it and the salmon was on top. One thing I will say the salmon was tasty but without the dressing it just made it a horrible experience. Again while eating it, the waitress was no where to be found. Therefore I give this place a one star. But if I could do no stars I would most definitely do that. If you're in Charlotte and want to go to a great place this is not it as of now! This was our Happy Hour spot of choice on a Friday afternoon after work. There was plenty of available seating when we arrived. Our server greeted us promptly and took our food and drink orders. The portion sizes are generous. The brussel sprouts were definitely the star of the night. We ended up staying for about 5 hours, ordering drinks throughout the night. Things were going great until it was time for our server to leave for the evening. She checked us out and specifically stated that the tip was not included on the bill. However, when we received our receipts, there was an 18% service charge that was added, even though we only had 4 people in our group. All of us had left an additional tip, not knowing the service fee was charged. By the time we realized it, our server was gone for the evening. She also did not assign another server to us even though we were still planning to order. We let the manager know and she immediately worked to make it right. Our service for the remainder of the evening was impeccable. The music was good, although the volume was a little low on the side where we were sitting. I would definitely plan to return in the future....although I will keep a much closer eye on my bill. Pro-tip: Plan time for parking. There is a free lot nearby but it is pretty small.. read more

Saturday, 07/12 myself and two friends sat at the bar. I had to ask the bartender three times for water the first time she forgot and it wasn't busy. She was so consumed with her cell phone that she was not servicing customers. When more people came she seemed to get annoyed, and still went back to her phone. This was around 3:30pm. They add an additional 18% gratuity to 1 guess. Every server does not deserve that. My friends and I decided that we will no longer patronize this business. My friend brought and I came to this hookah spot one evening after dinner and drinks. It was very laid back and chill with couches and chairs (like a big living room) and they had a bar and a DJ playing music. They had the basketball game playing on the tv so you could come here solo or with friends if you wanted. Not sure the price of hookahs on the regular but it was $6 on this particular day (a Monday evening around 9PM). It wasn't too packed either so we were able to sit where we wanted. The hookah wasn't bad but it didn't pull as easy for me as some other places I've been too. At the same time it wasn't super harsh either so for $6 I'm not complaining. Came in on a Friday night around 10pm. $5 cover at door. First thing I noticed was how bright the lights were inside, it just did not make the vibe. We walked around for 15 minutes to try and find a spot to sit and order a hookah. We finally got a spot and asked the couple next to use for a menu. According to the menu near the bar, a DJ was supposed to be playing at 9, but I didn't see anything set up. There also wasn't music playing at all in the bar. We sat there for 15 more minutes and never got served. I couldn't even tell you who the waitresses were, no one was wearing a uniform or coordinating colors. Maybe the ladies wearing a Fanny pack were serving, if so one sat down right in front of us and started smoking hookah. A man in black, I'm assuming security was walking through with a gun on his leg. Again, some identification of security or staff would have been nice. Decided to come here on a Wednesday evening. I saw on their IG that they do a talent/open mic show and thought it would be a perfect opportunity to check out this new location. Parking was easy and in the same building. The actual space was nice and roomy. Big bar area, plenty of couches, lounge chairs, and bookshelves around with a separate area where they held the open mic show. I honestly wanted to like this business, but unfortunately, it fell extremely short of my expectations. I understand it's covid and most places are short staffed, but when our server told us she was the only server for the entire restaurant that night, it was shocking and unacceptable. Obviously, our server wasn't as attentive as she should have been, I would assume being overwhelmed. As for food, we ordered a salmon salad and mozzarella sticks. Mozzarella sticks came with no marinara sauce and it took 45mins to receive our salad. The salad had no dressing and literally a few pieces of salmon that luckily was tasty enough for me to eat some of it with the salad. It's very rare for me to say I've eaten food that had me regret going to out to eat, but this was one of those times. I probably would not be back even if they offered a free meal. Ok first off I'm going to be little bias because I love Red's since its old location in Noda and was very disappointed when it closed down and was extremely excited when they opened back up at its new location. This new place is about 2 1/2 larger than the old space with a larger full service bar and separate room with a glass wall for additional seating for hookah. The location is great on East Blvd with semi good parking but I've never had a problem finding a space. They now have a full kitchen which they didn't have before serving small plates which I think is good considering this isn't a restaurant. There's games in the back to diversify what you want to do there and the bathrooms are much larger than before. The staff is great and always have a smile on there face and professional with their customers. I'm already a regular customer on the weekends. LOL! read more

Visited Reds @ 28 to get some work done. I needed a new scenery to focus. I was a bit nervous didn't know if I'd be able to focus in this type of environment. In all the pictures I saw hookah and bottles, I assumed it would be loud with music blasting lol However it's actually a very chill and quite place. Good spot to come get some work done there were lots of people in there smoking hookah while on their lap tops. Love it! I came in around 3:45. And stayed until 7pm on a Wednesday. The entire time it was pretty quiet and the server constantly came over to see if I was good. I'm giving it a 3 starts because the table I sat at was pretty dirty and linty. I wanted the $6 brunch special, however they were out of chicken and waffles. I needed up getting 6 hot honey (I think thats the name of the flavor) wings which came with fries. None of it was hot. It was very mediocre. I'm not sure what the vibe is at night. There are specialty drinks (top shelf also), hookah specials before 8pm, and food. Friday night features a dj after 8 as well with cover charge. Courtney took care of our large birthday party and she was friendly from the minute we were seated. The special guest had a blast which makes the birthday experience great for her. I had a chance to interact with management and that made quite the impression. Overall I am glad we could all connect in a location with plenty of space. read more

So sorry to report this place is not a winner and generally not very welcoming at all, which is not what I expect from my Dilworth neighborhood hookah bar. Bad service, bad food and product that is mediocre at best. No hostess or anyone to greet or direct customers where to go and/or what the procedure is, leaving me to have to hunt someone down. Food (of the menu items that were actually available) was NOT good. Likely could have received the same food and service at the local skating rink. They literally have a bag of chips on the menu...and yes, it comes in a bag. Too bad, because I wanted to love this place as it is a unique addition to Dilworth. Changes are desperately needed for this place to make it longterm. Sadly, I cannot recommend. * Also, it would be cool if they had biodegradable or environmentally friendly mouth pieces. This place was recommended to me. I went here just for Hookah. Walked in, no greeting. Stood there was about 2 minutes and finally asked another patron "do I just sit anywhere".... Sat down in front of an employee that was taking another patrons order, no acknowledgment. I flagged her down after she left to order and asked what flavors they had she said there on the menu with an attitude and said she'd give me a time to decide since I wasn't ready to order. I sat for 30 minutes as I watched her walk back and forth and service other people around me and never came back. I flagged down a different employee to order who was a bit nicer. Sunday Funday stand aside, Saturday Funday officially out played you this weekend due in part to Red 28. After having some brunch at another restaurant, me and my friend felt like we didn't want to end the day so decided on hookah. I'm all about supporting black businesses so once he recommended Red 28, I was completely onboard. Coming earlier you're more likely to find a spot to chill at the bar or at the tables but as the day progresses you'll want to make a reservation. Red 28 got very packed after we left and came back but we were fortunate that a friend was able to reserve us a table. After ordering drinks and hookah, we started feeding the music box and playing all of the oldies and literally had the entire bar singing it was great. The bartenders earlier in the day got a little overwhelmed since she kept forgetting what drinks we wanted or completely not coming back with an order we placed as others continued to come into the bar. More bar staff begin to pour in so it got easier to order but just felt the other bartender was a bit overwhelmed. I didn't really try any of their foot but 2 people at the bar was complaining about the food coming out cold but later in the night after we came back a few friends orders food and fries which were pipping hot so maybe the earlier kitchen staff was overwhelmed. I use to frequent Red 28 in NODA before it closed the vibe was definitely there. Not sure if this location does live music but I'll definitely be coming back again and again. I'll definitely spread my financial love with some other black owed spots but this location is great but parking can become a concern even with the parking garage. Oh yeah, this Red 28 location has apartments above it who I was told by the staff complained that we were loud with the singing. With Charlotte opening back up for full hours meaning closing at 2:30-3am, not sure how residents will take the noise. read more

Ive been going to red since they had a location in university area, the food, the food selection and prices are amazing! I recommend chicken wings, brussel sprouts, house salad, jambalaya, grilled chicken sandwich, if you drink the drinks are strong, its spacious, good seating. I went and ordered at the bar where they told me that they didn't have any wings, which was fine so I ordered a grilled cheese. These people brought me out a grilled cheese on a cheeseburger bun.
