After seeing this new restaurant in the Google listings, I decided to try it for lunch on my break from work. I ordered seaweed salad, it was bland. The miso soup was thin, flavorless and cold. "Hot" tea was cold, no refill offered. Then it took 45 minutes more for my teriyaki entree to arrive...overcooked, slimy and cold. The inattentive waitress dropped off the plate and disappeared for another 20 minutes. Not worth the money or the wait, HUGE disappointment. I'm a bit baffled by this restaurants good ratings, as we came here based on the positive Yelp reviews? Neither the seaweed salad nor the sashimi appetizer we're fresh. I'm not overly picky, but I couldn't bring myself to eat them. Then the vegetables in the rather mediocre drunken noodles had sand in them! It was so bad, I was too embarrassed to complain without offending the staff. Besides, I'm not sure they could have replaced our meals with better quality ingredients. Red and blue is one of the more authentic Chinese food and sushi places in Troy. The prices of all the dishes are reasonable and the food is fantastic. The takeout service is a little rough at times, but overall most people working there are friendly and understanding if you want to switch between tables and booths. Their bubble tea is also one of my go tos when getting takeout as well since you need to reach a certain price in order to be able to get it delivered like in most restaurants. Overall, it's a great restaurant for the weekend lunch but good for a normal dinner at home as well. read more

I don't want to be picky but as a person who came from Sichuan, I was kind of disappointed after I tried two or three dishes which looked so authentic. My boyfriend and I came here tonight as I had a 15$ gift certificate to use. Started with wonton soup that was great and veggies dumpling. They are the thin green dumplings not the fat doughy ones, which I love. The sauce they come with is spicy chili, not the tart, sweet soy I've had in other restaurants. Great as well. I ordered two sushi rolls, one Cali, one New York. Both were good. No complaints. Boyfriend ordered the bento dinner box with the general Taos chicken. The checked he was not happy with, he spit out five different pieces that were chewy and grizzly. Said the heat and spicy flavor were great, just the chicken was not nice. Service was great to start and water was refilled frequently. It got quite busy towards the end and had to wait to get check but nothing to complain about. The building itself is really unassuming from the outside. It's actually quite big with a full bar in the back, small stage for what I assume will be karaoke. Dart boards and two pool tables. Love this place. They are so nice to my family and the food is great. Today we went there with my two young nieces and they went out of their way to make sushi for them that they would like that was not on the menu. Then they got ice cream which they accidentally dropped and they brought more without even thinking twice. The food is amazing but more importantly they treat you like family and make you feel so comfortable even when you have young children which can be tough when eating out, but they make you feel at home. 5 stars and get the spicy fish soup!!!!! read more

Worst Chinese I have EVER had. My wifes food was greasy and flavorless while mine just happened to have the plastic bag that my 'fresh' vegetables came out of still in my meal. I wanted them to just refund me but they tried to give me a new meal or a coupon for a free meal in the future but this was such massive mistake that they where hardly taking seriously, I will NOT be patronizing this establishment. I have eaten in over a dozen sushi restaurants across New York State, and this is the FIRST time I have ever: (1) immediately smelled a "fishy" odor upon entering the restaurant; and (2) experienced stomach indigestion after eating there. Simply put: their seafood was not fresh. And this was on a Friday night. Most of the sushi rolls tasted good, except for the Spider roll, which was unappetizingly mushy. Tacky decorations, frantic/disorganized wait staff, poor table-wait timing. Red & Blue can't decide if it wants to be a Chinese restaurant or a Japanese restaurant; that indecision is probably why their sushi is lacking. For their prices, you're better off going to Shogun Sushi in Albany, where the food and atmosphere is always superior. Or even Tomo, for that matter. This place is not worth it, even if you do live in Troy. Sacrifice the twenty minute drive and go to Albany. read more

Let me just say that we are from Saint Petersburg Florida where there are a bunch of reallyyyy good sushi places around. We've tried a few different sushi places up here now and I'm convinced sushi just isn't made the same as it is in Florida. Sho Gun in Albany we found to be extremely mediocre, same with sushi x in Latham. Only place I was impressed with was Akanomi; their sushi was very similar to what we are used to. We tried out Red & Blue and honestly the only role my boyfriend and I both really liked was the specialty roll called "magic". That one was extremely tasty and if we to back I'll probably just get two of those and call it a night. We also tried the Wynantakill, Boston and American dream rolls. The Wynantskill roll is extremely plain: shrimp, lettuce and cucumber. The Boston roll is supposed to be cream cheese and salmon but we both couldn't help but agree that it tasted more like bleu cheese than cream cheese..also very bland. The American dream was okay but I don't particularly like the taste of imitation crab because of the fishiness, so I wasn't a huge fan of this roll. The staff was nice enough but the music was all Asian so just about every song we looked at each other wondering what we were listening to. Overall not a bad experience..just not the best food we've had since we've been here. read more

Overall, it's a pretty solid restaurant. Food is always good, and fairly quick to come out. The pork fried rice is delicious, and I love their speciality rolls! Service is okay - they could be a bit friendlier, but they certainly aren't rude. The prices are pretty standard for the area. I definitely recommend it for sushi in Troy. read more

Why anyone would go here is beyond me. There are several other options in the region that are much better, and I won't put them here in case it looks like I'm pitching for them. The food I got (it was a standard Chinese dish) was oily and disgusting, with little flavor other than old-tasting oil and the soy sauce I had dumped on to make it palatable. Oh, also, some of the vegetables tasted like they had fermented. The ones that didn't taste fermented were just not cooked, like they just plopped uncooked broccoli or peppers in there. To top it off, there are staff issues. The person who took my order on the phone was rude, and the staff was rude when I was in the restaurant. Be prepared to ask several times for more than a couple extra packets of sauce. Oh, and a couple years back I had the misfortune of joining friends to eat at Red & Blue, and when we were waiting for our food we could occasionally see in the kitchen, where there was a shirtless man standing over the stove. I'm struggling to find positives here. The food isn't vomit inducing (well, maybe for those fermented vegetables), and the sushi isn't too bad (although it is ridiculously expensive for the area). I just don't know why anyone would ever travel to go here. Maybe I could see it if you lived right on 15th Street within walking distance, but that's it. I'd rather spend some extra time and be a little hungrier, and go somewhere else that has great Chinese or Japanese food in Troy. Because it is close to the university, I keep getting convinced or cajoled into joining colleagues or friends here. I really wish I said no to all of those times. read more

Great spot! I have regularly dined in and ordered out over the last 3 years. The food is consistent and always on point. If dining in I highly recommend sitting at the sushi counter! Once you place your order the itamae (sushi chef) passes over a small treat that you aren't charged for. I never know what it is but it's always incredible! read more

first the good news...food was ok nothing to write home about but reasonably priced...the wonton soup & apps were judged above average by table mates..service was attentive without being overbearing now the bad...sketchy neighborhood & the building looked like an old bar with a sushi bar tacked on...we had a groupon coupon for $50 which we presented before we ordered...we spent over $200 on food & drink...when we received our bill the $50 had not been deleted...an oversight...maybe but we were the only customers in the place bottom line...if in the area it's worth a shot...(their coupons are all over the place)..but not if your trying to impress your date or her parents :) read more

Initially, I would of liked to give this place a higher rated review, however the horrible lack of customer service and consistency is horrendous. If you aren't Asian don't expect to be helped and you will be completely looked over in the restaurant when trying to get someone's attention. Being an RPI student for 4 years you can bet I've tried almost every local Chinese/Japanese cuisine restaurant and I can't tell you how many times I walked away or picked up food unsatisfied. First of all, never expect tapioca in your bubble tea. Every single time I have ordered a bubble tea excited to finally enjoy some tapioca they just hand me a tea with no bubbles and it's hard to justify paying $3 for just a tea. They also don't bring it up to your attention that they are out of tapioca if you were to get a delivery or pick-up so you're stuck with a bubble-less tea. You ask why is this such a big deal? Because they NEVER have tapioca! Why even include bubble tea in your menu when you are ALWAYS out?! My guess is that they just never make the tapioca and I have ordered from this establishment at many different times hopeful that maybe if I placed an order earlier in the day the "We ran out" excuse couldn't be said. Now they just blatantly give you the tea without any. The food is not competitive with other establishments in the area and nor are the prices competitive either. So the only reason why this place hasn't closed down is that a) they serve alcohol and b) they have more authentic Asian food being a hot spot for a lot of the Asian student population at RPI. All in all I say just order at the Chinese place in the shopping plaza just down the street. You will be much happier with your food and your wallet. read more

I ordered from this place online for delivery, and after 3 phone calls and 2 hours wait time, I received cold, tasteless food. The menu website forced me to pay in advance using my credit card, and not only was the food very pricy for chinese/Japanese takeout, ($58 for dinner for 2 adults and 2 small children) but the website wanted me to add a tip on my cc as opposed to my regular practice of providing a cash tip on delivery. Myself being a proponent of supporting people that work for tips, I was obliged to throw in an extra ten bucks. What a waste. My small children were hungry enough to choke down a few cold chicken nuggets right before bed, but the actual chinese food was inedible. Schezwan Sour Spicy Soup w/ Noodle that is all you ever need. Noodle soup with sour cabbage and spicy broth. Amazing. Ordered veggie dumplings, they were bland and cold inside. The soup made up for it, veggie dumplings are boring anyways. I'm definitely coming back to explore more of the traditional schezwan side of the menu. I LOVE Red & Blue. As a resident of Cohoes, it's tough to find good food, period. Let alone good sushi, especially for DELIVERY. Red & Blue does not disappoint. Everything I have ordered has not only been fresh, but has come quickly and correctly. I am a stickler for sides (eel sauce and spicy mayo are my go-to's) and of the 20+ times I have ordered from them, only once were my sides not in the bag, and they returned with them right away no questions asked! The sushi is always fresh and the rolls are always delicious and ample. They have a variety of items from standard Japanese fare to classic Chinese dishes. I love the Demon Roll and their pork fried dumplings! From the people who answer the phone to the delivery people, everyone is quick and courteous. Red and blue's specialty is Szechuan cuisine. Therefore, you should focus on ordering Chinese food with heavy spices if you decide to visit. They often have specials written on the blackboard but it is in Chinese so you may need to ask for a translation. The specials are a refreshing change for those who done out on a regular basis. read more

My family ordered a spicy fish, taste is good. and A soup, it is too salty. In general it is OK. The price is 15-25% higher than other Chinese restaurants. If price is lowered down 15-25%, it deserves 4 stars. read more
