I've been on a quest to try every Chinese buffet in the area, and this one has been on my radar for a while. Well... I finally made it. Mission accomplished. This place is easily the worst buffet I've encountered so far. I tried just about everything, mostly out of curiosity and mild scientific concern. Somehow even the Diet Coke tasted off, which I didn't know was possible. It was like carbonation mixed with disappointment. Most of the food had the flavor profile of warm air. At a certain point it got so bad I just started laughing. The egg roll deserves special recognition. It was greasy, soggy, and somehow burned on the bottom at the same time, which feels like a culinary achievement. The cabbage inside had a smell that reminded me of cleaning out the spice cabinet at grandma's house after it had sat untouched for twenty years. Everything on the buffet looked old. And when fresh trays came out... they also somehow looked old. I'm not sure how they're bending time like that, but it's impressive. The only positive was the service. The staff were smiling, friendly, and seemed genuinely happy as they calmly poisoned the dining room one customer at a time. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

We went in at around 5:30-ish on Valentine's Day. The place wasn't crowded, but the steam trays all appeared picked over and many were empty. My husband and I both had this breaded shrimp. It tasted decent, as did the ham, but everything else seemed lukewarm. I felt sick before I even left. My husband didn't get sick until he got home. He stated that the My 15 year old had the Mac n' Cheese and some ham. He said the Mac tasted watery, but thankfully he did not get sick at all. The restaurant seemed clean, but the bathrooms were slightly sketchy. As much as I want to support a small business, I cannot say that we will be repeat customers. read more

It's an average Asian buffet, in my opinion. Being from downstate, there's a lot of these types of places there, so I'll compare it to those. Food wise, the selection was ok for a small place, with a decent number of vegetable options. My main gripe, though, is the mislabeling of most items. Be warned, and take a good look before you dive into it. Sushi was fine, salad was cold...especially the great kimchee with lots of garlic and red pepper paste, hot dishes were hot and were replenished during our Friday afternoon visit. Staff was attentive and very nice. There were a review or two dinging this joint for cleanliness, but on this particular visit there was nothing glaringly dirty or unsanitary. I cannot begin to describe the complexity of my experience at the Red Apple Buffet. The experience was incredible and one I would not trade for the world, however as I write this an hour later I can feel my stomach trying to understand what just happened. The atmosphere is odd and slightly sad and the people aren't any different. I had more fun than I can ever remember having at a restaurant, however, it was at the expense of the food. I spent the entire meal laughing as I attempted to not vomit up five day old chicken with a suspicious white sauce on it. I would absolutely not recommend eating at the Red Apple Buffet, but if you are looking for some comedically bad food and a great time you can take your partner for under $20. Seriously though, I would recommend you eat before and leave your plates empty. read more

Go to the Chinese takeout in the Price Chopper Mall instead its right next door!! They have the best Chinese food you will find within 100 miles!!! read more

This is a typical Chinese buffet style restaurant. You sit down, they bring you your drink, then have a ball. The food was of expected quality. Nothing spectacular, nothing horrible. Just average. The price for what you receive is reasonable. Including tax it ran about $11. The big downfall here for me was service. While the staff was friendly there were some hiccups. One of us three didn't receive any ice with his drink while us other two did and one of us had a small fly in his water when it was brought out. The ice, so be it, but the fly is fairly concerning. This place sucks! Went here, I saw a roach, the food was mushy and the presentation was bad! I wanted to leave but the rest of my party didn't want to be rude, but when I see a roach just walking around during the day, there are probably hundreds that come out at night! Food barely edible. Everything is dried out and flavorless. It definitely seems like the "food" has been sitting there since they opened, several hours ago. If I wanted stale and flavorless food, I certainly wouldn't go out to pay for it! My husband does tolerate it better than I do but even he would prefer United Buffet in Schenectady!!! My wife and I have visited this buffet 5 separate times. When we visit 2 senior's with hot tea. Each time was a Saturday around 12 noon - 1 pm. Our first experience was good the food was decent. There were a few items that were not as hot as I would have expected. The Buffet pricing is $7.99 which includes the hot tea. When you calculate the two meals at $7.99 each times 2 equals $15.98 minus the10% for senior discount and the 8% tax the total bill should be $15.53. This is a great price for what you getting. What bothers me most is that on the 1st and 2nd visit the pricing was less expensive than any other Asian buffet (this is not the bothersome part). On the 3rd, 4th, and 5th visit the pricing was different and varied from $2.00 - $3.00. 3rd visit was around $16.00, 4th visit around $18.00, and the 5th visit around $17.00. There are only 2 women in the buffet section during the time we visit and always the same women. One as hostess and wait staff and the other taking the check. This variance on pricing shows inconsistency in the pricing. The lack of consistency makes me not want to visit again. It shows either the lack of understanding of pricing or their attempting to make up tips there not receiving during opening hours. Also I have to agree with others the food is not consistently hot and if I am paying for the food Make it HOT and Fresh. I do understand that in a Buffet setting with lower dining it is more difficult to keep food fresh and not having enough food out is just as bad as having cold food. I guess I will be paying more for the other locations. What I do like is that they use Real Plates and Utensils NOT the foam and plastic this pandemic has seemed to bring back to life. read more

Inside decor was at best outdated and at worst a little creepy..though i probably should have guessed as much considering they keep their shades drawn so that you cant see in from the outside. I arrived at the buffet at 4:45pm today... You would think the food would be hot and fresh.. Neither was the case... The only thing that was hot was the Wanton Soup and the hot tea... Everything else I had was very very cold... including the ham and roast beef ( which I think had gone bad. It had a vinegar taste to it)... I was out of there at 5:02... Wow, I am really glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews and skip this place. My husband and I came to Cobleskill on vacation and ate at this place twice-once for lunch and once for dinner- and we enjoyed it both times. Coming from NYC, the prices can't be beat ($6.69 for lunch, $10.69 for dinner) considering all the choices of food they serve. We didn't feel sick or anything like previous reviewers so perhaps the restaurant cleaned up their act in the last year. Everything tasted fresh and hot. They also have really tasty ice cream (lots of choices). We will definitely come back if we visit Cobleskill again. read more

I got food poisoning here once a few years ago. My husband suggested we try it again so I reluctantly agreed thinking maybe something had changed in three years. The waitresses were rude, the plates, silverware, bowls and utensils were all dirty (and I don't mean water spots...). The food was chewy and rubbery or rock hard and (worst of all) completely cold. Now all three of my kids and myself have food poisoning and we've been throwing up for days. I can't believe the state hasn't closed this place down yet! NEVER EVER EAT HERE!!! We've tried this place multiple times and each time it's the same issues- most of the food is cold, some Luke-warm. Nothing is hot. The fried donuts are almost always hard and stale. The fried rice has dried bits that almost feel uncooked. Nothing is well labeled so you're really not sure what you're getting. Definitely risky for someone with food allergies. This time the chicken and broccoli was was terrible- the broccoli was so over cooked. The layout doesn't make much sense either so you end up walking around the offerings so many times you pick something just to be able to sit down and eat. One of my favorite dishes is the green beans- typically whole beans with delicious seasoning- tonight it looked like they just poured beans out of a can. Unfortunately i just don't have anything good to say about this place. I wish I did. We won't be going back. Not to mention- this is a pandemic- one could argue people shouldn't be going out to restaurants at all, and we made a risky decision doing so. We've always felt comfortable doing it bc the places we go they keep people well separated. But the end of our meal people were piling in in large groups and the staff were seating them all around us. We were very uncomfortable with this and left immediately. read more

My wife and I love their Chinese food and particularly the roast duck (take out only). We have lived many places, including Arizona (bad Chinese food), Long Island, Brooklyn, and while the food can't compare to NYC Chinatown, we feel the food is at least as good as any buffet in the capital region. The take out buffet is sold by the pound with different selections for lunch and dinner. While "all you can eat" is a good bargain if you have the time and stomach capacity, we like to get a few trays of take out for about $20 and we get a few meals with soup and appetizers for that price. They also have a carving station for meats as well as American food (even buffalo wings) for those who don't like Chinese food. As for "old food", if you arrive late for lunch (after 2:30 or so weekdays) you might want to wait until 4 when they change over to the fresh dinner food or request that they refresh the tray. As far as the take out menu, there is wide selection and they will customize orders at no charge. My wife and I order take out at least once or twice a week and take any guests that visit us there for dinner. So far everyone that has eaten there has raved about the food. I really can't understand the bad reviews unless their regular chef was off that day. We have eaten there regularly for years and love it! read more
