Not too shabby for lovely Aiken, SC. I'm surprised to find a few not so good reviews. I have eaten here I few times now and I have always enjoyed the food, service atmosphere ect. Now I think this is a little chain but I'm not exactly sure. I'm always a little timid when a restaurant attempts to cover all the Asian cuisine options, but Red Bowl does it well. The menu goes on forever. Everything from sushi, bento boxes, rice bowls, Pad Thai, veggie options, just to name a few. Anyone from Sushi fans to timid taste testers will be able to find something they enjoy. The sushi was fresh and the Red Bowl even offers brown rice( surprising if you have ever been to Aiken) The Bang Bang Shrimp is a great to start along with the seaweed salad. The chicken and broccoli was quite good and a solid universal Asian option. The portions are HUGE even for lunch. The restaurant is clean, large and pretty new. The service was speedy for lunch and dinner, maybe I just got lucky, but our waiter was very good! This restaurant is surprisingly cute inside! There's more ambience than I'd expect from the unassuming storefront and the strip mall location. I had the sesame tofu and it was really, really good. The tofu was well-marinated and had a nice crispiness. I wish they had more vegetarian selections on the menu, and it definitely misses some points for the lack of ANY creative vegetarian sushi roll. Our first date night in months and we almost came out of it with food poisoning. The signs out front should have tipped us off, if not that the sign written in crayon at the front desk should have. Warm Sushi , Drink order wrong, the food had no flavor, the manager gave us a gift card for our "next visit" after we told her about the off fish (white tuna was brown on the outside and white on the inside) and warm sushi that we barely even touched (One bite, literally). After all that she still brought us to go boxes. I gave the gift card to the people next to us, because we are never coming back. She didn't even take the bad fish off of our bill! Not sure if it's new management or what, but the food I ordered yesterday was horrible. This is definitely the best Asian restaurant in and around Aiken. My wife and I tried it on Friday and came back on Sunday! The atmosphere is great. Red lanterns hang throughout the restaurant. There's a bar. There are TVs. Jazz music was playing (rather than the tacky instrumental "Asian-ized" versions of American pop songs that often play at Chinese restaurants). The wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. For the first meal, I got spicy tangerine chicken. It was spicy at all, but still very tasty. For the second meal, my wife and I split a steak sushi roll and I ordered the Thai red curry chicken. I was very happy to see Thai dishes on the menu! Red Bowl has a great happy hour deal: 1/2 sushi and drinks from 4:00-6:30, daily! You could go down the street and pay the same amount for sub par Chinese food at the Chinese buffet, or you can excellent Chinese and Thai food at Red Bowl. We'll definitely go back! read more

The ambiance was relaxing...very pleasant waiter who was attentive & lightly social. Food was amazing! The spicy Orange peel chicken was delicious & piping hot!! They have the best spicy mustard that I've ever had!!! Very fresh & offer a healthy alternative with brown rice instead of white. I will not be coming back to this establishment until they improve themselves. They added pho on their menu, and it tastes like fatty beef broth with chucks of what looks like corn starch covered beef. The oil sat on the top of the broth, making me want to throw up. Nothing about this restaurant is authentic. Even the sushi tasted and smelt like it had been sitting in a warm environment for a few days. My friend and I were literally the only two people there at dinner service for 30 mins and ordered sushi as an appetizer. It took 45+ minutes for the sushi (2 rolls) to come to the table. Our main courses came out before anything. I asked the server not to bother with the sushi, however, I heard the chef saying "I just made it." So, she brought it anyways. The servers were nice, but inattentive and slow. The female manager was a terrible example of what a manager should act like. At one point we heard her yelling at the chefs and servers, she ended up making the sushi chef (who I assume was new) cry. For being the only thing in this town that has an Asian fusion, it really sucks. I do hope they improve and be proud of their food and service--especially since the owners and managers are of Asian descent. read more

don't waste your time.....this place has gone through ups and downs and apparently are in a down time right now. bang bang shrimp is not good, whereas before covid, it was excellent. egg rolls were just okay. this was a takeout order at 2:00pm, so maybe the real chef wasn't there. biggest turnoff, however, was the woman who took the in-person order. it sounded like she was loudly berating (foreign language, so who knows?) an employee when i walked in the door, she took my order, went back to the kitchen, came out with the order a short time later, turned around and started in again with the loud berating. maybe this is the way they talk to each other....i don't know....and won't be back again to give the place another try. there are too many other restaurants in aiken, if you've got a taste for asian cuisine. read more

Outside looks like a fast food restaurant but inside more like a regular restaurant. For starters the shrimp tempura was just fried shrimp (fishy) and the white wine was old with vinegar taste. We moved to Aiken six months ago and have enjoyed almost every restaurant we visited. This is the glaring exception. We got a BOGO coupon in the mail so we decided to try this place. The entrees were marginal and the sushi was awful. But the kicker was when the waitress brought the check and pointed out that we had to pay part of the cost of the second dinner because the coupon was only good for entrees of $9.00 or less. Surprise - there are not any entrees on their menu for that amount. The advertising is deceitful and the food is better at every other Asian restaurant we have tried in the area. My advice is go elsewhere, eat a good dinner for a reasonable price, then remind yourself that you made a good decision by not going to the Red Bowl. read more

Very good restaurant with delicious food. It is a bit pricey, but you can eat fairly cheaply if you pick the right thing on the menu. The sushi was much better than I expected, and everything else was delicious. The service was not the greatest, but I've had a lot worse. I recommend going for lunch as it is a good bit cheaper then and it is easier to get in and out. read more

The food was very good, we have actually been there twice now. The serving staff is not very good. It seems like some of the staff are new at waiting. Every dish we had as a group was very good and flavorful. The menu is very large, and there is a wide array of Asian food. If you like spicy foods, tell them extra extra spicy, and it still will not be hot enough. They use cerrano pepper, not Thai peppers as seasoning. Visited on 1/21/15. Ordered a beer, edamame and a variety of sushi. Beer was cold, food was very good. Service was slow and iffy. Note to self, be really specific when your waiter in a sushi bar is a southern white boy. Obviously this guy was new and I knew more about the menu than he did. And that is the management's fault, so they need to up their act. Specifically I ordered edamame with my beer and I don't think he had ever heard the word before because when I asked it where it was after it didn't come I got a blank look. I ordered a fancy roll and some tuna and yellowtail nigri and he brought rolls. But they fixed. Two negatives beyond that. The nigri omelet was very dry, I should have sent it back. I thought for sure with the order snafus I would get a stop-by from management to check up, but that didn't happen and they certainly weren't that busy. So, went there for happy hour deals which they advertise is everyday. Went in and the sushi bar is closed. We still decided to stay because there are other happy hour specials. When I went to order some happy hour specials, I was told that they don't have happy hour on Wednesdays, which is today, Wednesday.
