Just finished a most delicious Eggplant Parmigiana sandwich. It was delicious from start to finish. I have to stay it was so large and fat that I could almost not finish it but it was so tasty I chowed down hungrily with every bite. The sour dough bread roll was crisp and fresh. The delicious tomato sauce made the sandwich juicy and flavorful. Oh and the eggplant was so tasty and plentiful coated with a generous amount of melted mozzarella cheese. I no doubt order from Red Boy again and will sample other items from their extensive menu. This little local place is a gem. read more

Was invited by a friend to meet for brunch. Nice area, very nice and quiet. Parking is free on Sundays. Close nearby shops and fairly close to the freeway. Was told they recently added a breakfast menu and open during breakfast hours. They are typically know for pizza, which I heard is really good too. It's a family owned business and you can definitely feel it when you come in. Everyone is so welcoming and warm, great customer service and delicious food. What more can you ask for? Since my friend has been here several times before, we had her order the items off the menu and shared it family style. Everything was very good and tasty. The mcgriddle is a secret menu item she asked for one day and they made.it for her. It is definitely a dish to share as it's 2 large pancakes filled with sausage, bacon, cheese and egg. Having the balance of sweet and salty was a game changer. Really enjoyed the food and will be back to try other breakfast items and pizza one day. read more

Delicious Buffalo chicken pizza! Service was also excellent, they constantly checked if everything was okay. They had one outdoor table for seating with a dog, and even brought me a water bowl for my dog. They had plenty of seating indoors too. We have come to know the current owners, Joe and Jeannine, and were so enamored with how much life they brought to an old staple in our neighborhood. We instantly became regulars and shared our love for this family owned business to our family and friends, but unfortunately they will be passing the torch to new management so my husband and I wanted to celebrate them and all their hard work. For pizza we chose the classic pepperoni cheese and sauce, but it's made on a thinner crust that's entitled the Luciano! It was Bruno! The dough is a signature sourdough btw and it's also vegan, so let's go Dough heads! The fries were thin, crunchy, and classic, for $7.50 the giant basket is yummy. They also have Deelish Local beers on tap from Temescal Brewing, along with water and soda.. but the best part is after dinner getting that yummy espresso shot from Oakland's finest, Mr. Espresso. At Red Boy they are using the organic Golden Gate Espresso, which is a medium-light- but super yummy, you could even get a cappuccino... If I could give zero stars I would. I have been ordering from Red Boy since they opened. Over a decade. We ordered a pizza and it was incorrect. No cheese!!! I've ordered 250+ pizzas from Red Boy and never ordered a pizza with no cheese. I called to point out the error and a very rude employee named Melanie hung up on me. I had to call back to secure a commitment for a new correct pizza. I was told it would be 30-40 minutes. 50 minutes later the pizza arrived and it was cold and unbelievably it was incorrect again. I called again and Melanie the queen of customer service said "oh that's not my fault". No apology no nothing. I would have expected someone to make sure this time the pizza was correct. They have just lost a loyal customer forever. I'll go all the way to Grand Ave and spend my money at Zachary's before Red Boy on Leimert ever gets a dime of my money. read more

Very disappointed that Red Boy seems to engage in redlining. I just attempted to place an order for delivery, my address in West Oakland showed as invalid, so I called and was told that my home in West Oakland is too far away and out of the delivery area. However, when I tried entering an old address of mine online (just a few blocks away, further from Red Boy but on the other side of the BART tracks), I could place an order. I'd be more inclined to do a takeout order if the reason weren't discrimination against Oaklanders in the flats. read more

I'm giving 2 stars because the customer service was really great, from right when we walked in until we left! I'm giving a low rating because of a few things... we ordered half and half buffalo chicken pizza and bbq chicken pizza, the base of these pizzas which was straight hot sauce on one and straight bbq sauce on the other was overwhelming, just too much, but we wanted to make the best of it because we was hungry and had our fussy 18 month old daughter with us and wanted to feed her. The next thing is our chicken smh it came after our pizza and was undercooked. We love Red Boy! The owners and staff are incredibly nice and welcoming. The pizza is good, but the lasagna is even better. The ravioli is my kids' favorite. The brunch is also fantastic. My family of four recently visited Red Boy for their new brunch menu. We were all very impressed by the quality of the food and the prompt service. I had Eggs Benedict and the yolk was nice and runny to mix with the generous hollandaise sauce. My wife had a build-your-own omelette and breakfast potatoes, which were seasoned perfectly. The kids had short stack pancakes, which were huge and fluffy. Bonus: they delivered a free fruit plate as a starter with generous portions of watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, and orange slices. Good strong coffee! They also offer three kinds of chilaquiles, which we did not try, but looks like a house specialty. We will be back! read more

Solid gourmet pizza place. I went for there for dinner recently, I've driven by there a few times and felt like trying it once. The interior of the place is clean and nice for bringing groups. There was a large tv there where we watched the 49ers game. I was with one other person and we ordered a 14 inch Large (They have S, M, L, and XL sizes) BBQ Chicken Pizza , a Caesar Salad (with homemade dressing), and an order of the Cheesy Garlic Bread. - They specialize in Sourdough Crusts, I'm not sure if I've had that before or not but it pretty good and a little bit more unique than some of chain pizza places. - Their prices are probably higher than other most pizza places in Oakland (The pizza was $22.65), but it seems like they use fresher ingredients and herbs which make a big difference. They were taking a bunch of delivery and pick-up orders while there were some other tables seated when we were there and the staff turned our order around in a reasonable amount of time. We were pretty hungry but still boxed up half a pizza. In addition to pizza and salads they also have a wide range of italian entrees, sandwiches, and pasta dishes on their menu. I enjoy pizza and have eaten lots of it over the years. I have had many different types and understand that they all are unique. So the pizza I ordered from Red Boy today was for pick up. Two different pies - one veggie and one Canadian ham and pineapple (for my teenager). I had the veggie pizza which was pizza sauce, bell peppers green onions and mushrooms. The crust was ok - a little dry but not terrible. I've had pizza from here many years ago and it was the same. My teenager enjoyed their pizza. I've had salads from here in the past they were always good! I think for the two pizzas I got -that were like a personal size- the price was a little high. Try them out though. The menu is extensive and it sounds like they have some good combinations of meat and vegetables. I was impressed that they offer the pizza in a semi baked option or fully cooked. We show up to the restaurant and are handed cold pizza, soggy wings, and hardly any apology. They would not refund our tip. Paid over $40. I ordered pizza on their website and was quoted 50 minutes before pickup is ready. I also called before I head out to confirm that it was almost ready which they said it should be by the time I arrived. It turns out the pizza was not even made or in the oven when I got there and I had to wait an additional 50 minutes which is ridiculous. The staff offered no explanation and said that I just have to wait as they were busy. This is my first and last time ordering pizza from here.
