You might already know this place from the Rhode Island pub scene but did you know they're also serving some of the best Portuguese food in the state? We were absolutely blown away by the quality and taste of all of their dishes -- everything was packed with authentic, bold flavors that had us savoring every bite. We have been frequenting this gem for years, I was there about a month ago and it was still good even with a new owner. Tonight not so much. We ordered the nachos with everything, who put balsamic vinegar on nachos??? Not a great choice and the guacamole was very salty. I ordered the smelts that were supposed to be served with a vinegar based sauce and fava beans. I like both so why not. It came with seven smelts and three fava beans but plenty of cold vinegar sauce and onions. The sauce should've been warmed up, not so greasy and more beans. I think the smelts were $15, which was fine if it was what was listed on the menu. I'm hoping it was an off night, I know food costs are through the roof and I don't mind paying for great food but this wasn't it, tonight. Stopped in for lunch during the week. They have a small parking area next to the building that will hold about a dozen vehicles. Otherwise it's free, on-street parking in the surrounding neighborhood or main road. The 'pull' door (not automatic) is at ground level and once in the vestibule, there is a ramp up into the restaurant and steps up into the bar area. We sat at a high top in the bar area. Two dining rooms have wooden tables and chairs, mostly in a four-top size. The bar area has a high, vaulted ceiling and the two ceiling fans are a large baseball in a glove. Cute. Walls are real wood paneled on the bottom 2/3 and painted cream at the top 1/3 with dark wood floors. Everything looked nice and clean and cozy. High-tops in the bar area each had bag hooks under the table top which I love. Our waitress was the bartender. The bar was about half full and there were maybe two other tables in the restaurant. She brought over place mats, flatware and menu's and took our drink order. The menu is large and includes sandwiches, burgers, steaks, apps, soups and salads, plus. It's pretty big. We had a good amount of time to review all the menu options, plus the 'specials' menu she left with us. We both chose steak based entrées. A table top sign lists some seasonal adult beverages available and the menu includes other bar selections. Food was brought out by a kitchen employee. I think it may have been the cook/chef. It took a while for the food to come out of the kitchen and I suspect it's bare bones staff during the week. They were very friendly and asked if we needed anything else. The waitress also stopped by after several minutes to check in with us. The steak was tender however those knives need to be replaced. Because it was hard to cut, I thought the steak would be 'tough', but it was very nice. The fries are excellent. I did enjoy those. Mashed potatoes appear to be 'real' (not reconstituted flakes). My steak was a bit undercooked but I only ate about half. I concentrated on cutting the outer bits which left the center a perfect temp for reheating at home. It heated up quite well and was still tender. So in the end, it worked in my favor. Although I'm not sure how they fry the egg on top of the Portuguese steak, it was fluffy and had a nice soft yolk. (I could have sent the steak back to be re-fired if I was unhappy, but knew I'd probably not eat it all, so again, it worked in my favor) Gendered restrooms are off the bar area. Ladies has two small stalls with no gaps at the edges. Thumbs up for that. Men's room has a stall and a urinal (I asked, didn't look). Not sure about another comment on here regarding 'no lock' on the men's room. The stall has a lock. If you need privacy, use that. Each restroom is too small for a changing table. I asked about the parking situation as the lot is not big enough to accommodate all the tables and after talking about on-street parking options was told on the weekends (Friday - Sunday) it's a full house. So do plan some time to find parking. I'm not sure they take reservations though and the vestibule has only one seat that I noticed for waiting. Food quality is good. Service is friendly. Full bar. Red Bridge Tavern drew me in for Portuguese owned and inspired cuisine. I will say that it is a nice local place. But I think I will leave it for the locals. When I walked in, the bartendress was very nice and helpful. She refilled my water bottle, talked through beers, and changed the TV to the bowl game I requested, despite a lot of back and forth on New Year's Eve. While I was at the bar I looked over at the guy next to me and his steak was amazingly perfectly pink throughout. People around me sounded very happy with the size and flavor of their drinks, but as far as beer goes there is a limited tap, all on the lighter side despite 15-16 openings. So the bar is great. Stay at the bar. Finally my friend arrived and we went for a table. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. First, I discovered that the only restrooms in the building are tiny, meant for one person but not a locking door. I ordered clam chowdah, cod fish cakes, and the obligatory stuffie, all at the same time (same for my friend, no appetizer). All in all, it took nearly an hour for the chowder to come out, and the place was far from packed, with a few but not overwhelmingly many to-go orders. Finally, the chowder came out. Waiting, waiting, tasted... another 5-10 minutes before the other food started trickling so I could finally eat while my friend did the same. Chowder: 2.5 stars. It looked thick and creamy, but it was overwhelmingly potato. I was hunting and there are a few clams, but it's not even soup. It's potato. Just too much. Cod fish cakes: 2.5 stars. Way too much breading. I tried and could not actually taste any fish. I'm sure it's in there somewhere, but minced to smithereens so you can't tell. Stuffie: 3 stars. Another place where it's mostly breading, but at least my notes say "decent amount" instead of "where's the clam?". My friend: He loved the chicken half of the chicken parm, said it was cooked perfectly, but left the noodles. Generic noodles, the sauce he said didn't taste store-bought but the tomatoes were definitely canned. And the kicker? They never brought us napkins. Verdict: A low 3 stars overall, and that's mainly for the bar side of things. Stick to drinks. read more

I didn't see anything of the dinner special menu that I had a taste for so I went with the steak tips with a side of mashed potatoes and a salad. The salad with the balsamic dressing was a very good starter. The steak tips were good except some weren't cooked well enough for me. Tyler was my waiter and he was good but forgot my bread and butter. Other than those 2 incidents everything was fine. I never had this problem before and hope not to encounter it again. Went for lunch today and it was just ok. Started with the Portuguese soup and was good, warm not hot. We split the shrimp Mozambique pizza and the steak alla Berta. The pizza crust seemed overcooked and stale to me. After taking my first bite I regretted not getting the regular shrimp Mozambique with rice. The steak dish was good too but the sauce it came with did not blow me away like other reviews claim. Our sever was not attentive at all, our drinks were always empty and she just wasn't friendly. My friend and I ate here as part of the RI Food Fights event, Lord of the Wings. They're open for lunch and dinner, we got there around 3. The interior has a few dining spaces and a bar that was about half full. Standard family restaurant vibes, you get a sense this is a place that has a lot of regulars. Our server was adequate enough, I suppose. She did the basics of the job. We ordered the spicy honey wings they were offering for the event and I got a cocktail. The cocktail was a kind of margarita and not too sweet. Not really memorable otherwise. The wings were a little small and fried too hard. While the drumettes could handle it, the flats took a beating. And the sauce was like a reduced honey texture, almost. We didn't get any heat or any other flavor from it, so it was a miss for us. I went to the Red Bridge Tavern in East Providence for the RI Food Fight's Lowd of the Wings challenge. I hadn't read the fine print on my coupon and didn't see they were only good at Red Bridge Monday - Thursday. However, they took pity on me (given it was the last day) and served me their spicy honey glaze. As a bonus, the bartender gave me a lemon water bowl to dip my fingers. Very fancy! Honestly, it worked so well, I think this should be standard with wings! As for the wings, they were tender and fell off the bone. The sauce was mildly spicy with a nice sweet honey taste. RI Food Fight- Wings 2024 Review: This is our second time to Red Bridge. The first time was for a family dinner. I remember that we were all happy with the experience and my meal was good. Pleasantly surprised by this little place. We went yesterday with our Wing coupon for the competition. As soon as we showed our waitress (who turned out to be the owner) our coupon she immediately blurted out: we are out of wings! I felt deflated as we drove over the bridge just for the wings (so RI.) She explained that they order fresh wings and she might have some frozen but the fresh are so good. She refused to take our coupon, mentioned it multiple times that we should return and try their fresh wings but we have kids and busy schedules. This was their one crack at the apple! We got the last order of frozen wings and it was a spicy honey sauce. The frozen wings were like the kind you get at a small, local pizza shop. Nothing amazing. The sauce was ok and they DO NOT have the good blue cheese here! My husband ordered a Super Boch because he stated they don't carry it a lot of places. I ordered a oreo cake slice. Let's break down the oreo cake for a minute... It was like a pudding placed on top of a thin layer of chocolate cake and it looked like crushed oreo on top but it wasn't tasting like an oreo cookie broken up with the cream or crunchy bits. I used to love going to this restaurant before the new owners took over. The previous owners always kept it spotless, the food was amazing, and they paid attention to every detail. Unfortunately, ever since the new owners came in, the place has gone downhill. Everything seems dirty, the food doesn't taste the same, and the service is terrible. I even got a soda with a Christmas-themed label that had expired four months earlier. You end up waiting hours for your food, and there's no attention to detail anymore. I think we visited the Red Bridge Tavern on the wrong night, given the large number of great reviews I've read for this restaurant. We had an awesome experience here on our first visit and were excited to go back, but last night we found it just so-so at best. Ordered drinks to start and the drinks were probably the best part of our visit. The smokey old fashioned was pretty cool to watch when it was burning, capturing the smoke, and creating the smoky flavor. For food, we ordered the chipotle burger which was just kind of average. We also got the RBT appetizer combo which included fried mozzarella, wings, chicken tenders, potato skins, and eggplant fries. Again, just kind of average with no standouts except for the eggplant fries which stood out for being really soggy and pretty bad. We also got the chourico and cheese dip. The dip was great, but the amount of chips provided was kind of skimpy, and when we asked for more chips so we could finish the dip, we were told there would be a $3 upcharge. Lastly, the service. We had two servers, a male and a female. Service was very prompt and the female server was friendly, but the male server must have been having a bad day and really seemed like he would rather have been anywhere else other than at the restaurant. He even walked away when we took a few extra seconds to check over the bill before handing it back to him with our cards. All in all, we probably won't go back anytime soon. read more

We tried this place last night for the first time. When we arrived, there was a little line when we walked in. And that's when it started, The WAIT !!! . It took us about 30 minutes to get seated. Then once we were seated, we waited two hours for our food. We both got the Portuguese steak plate, Our waitress came over several times and mentioned that the food should be out shortly and was apologizing for the wait Once our food finally arrived, it was good, but definitely not worth that long of the wait.A lot of people were complaining around us, to the staff and management about the wait time. Back again! There were three of us on this occasion. We like the place and its informal vibe. And the food is tasty and reasonably priced. We shared the calamari which was good. Then went onto the steak tips with asparagus, a Portuguese Steak and fries (good but I prefer it without the extra sauce and the eggs) which I couldn't finish, and sea scallops. Two people had sodas while I had a Guinness and ended with an espresso. Our server seemed inexperienced but generally cheerful. I would have given the food another half star if I could have done so. Red Bridge Tavern has a comfortable old school feel to it, where you don't want to leave. The menu had plenty of options but I felt like I had to go with their Portuguese Sirloin Steak. The steak was cooked perfect and the fried egg on top didn't feel too heavy. It's normally served with rice and fries but I couldn't turn down the mashed potato option. My friend got the sea scallops and said they tasted like ones that you would get at an upscale seafood spot but at a reasonable price. I was in the mood for a beer but their cocktail list sounded amazing, so I'll have to come back for that. Unfortunately the service wasn't great. Our waiter was too quiet, we had trouble hearing him and he was not attentive at all. Wow! What an unexpected hidden gem. I came here for the FOOD FIGHTS wing event, and I will say that I am so grateful that I did. I've since gone back to have dinner here again with a friend and she also really enjoyed it. The service is absolutely fantastic - Miguel is super sweet and helpful. The ambiance is inviting and comfortable. Bathrooms are very clean. The food is well thought out and very well executed. The wings were some of the best I've ever had. I don't give fives often, but today I am. From the hostess to I think the manager to Tyler the new waiter who was being trained everyone was so nice and so attentive! I took a friend of mine there for the first time and she really enjoyed it... she even brought dessert home, which she never does. I had the seafood pasta and it was so good, but I could not finish it because they give you such a large portion so I ended up bringing half of it home which I cannot wait to eat. She had a burger with onion rings which were so good also she said. I had the flan if I were at home I would have licked the entire plate no kidding! I wish I could have taken a picture when I started but I always think of these afterward. What I can do is give you an idea of the seafood pasta with red sauce that I had in my to-go box For drinks I had the salted caramel which is only $11 and worth every bit and it was so good. My friend had the sugar cookie which is a holiday special and she enjoyed it very much, but it came out sort of like an appetizer it had a drink in the middle of a long plate I think they had macaroons on one side and whipped cream on the other and it had Jimmy's all around the glass which was so festive!!!! At $100.00+ for dinner and drinks I want to let people know how bad the service is at this restaurant. When we arrived around 3PM there were 4 people sitting at the bar and all tables were empty, we sat at a high top table. After about 10 mins a young lady came for our drink order (beer, wine, sangria). Sitting halfway across the restaurant we listened to the bartender talk about her sinus infection to a couple sitting at the bar for 15mins. She eventually stopped talking but our drinks were still more than 5mins away (at this point we had started paying attention to time). When the drinks came we ordered right away knowing she wouldn't be back soon. We ate our meals, no one asked if we needed another drink or how the food was, not even would you like dessert. No one came near us. We finished our meals, my daughter went to the bar to get the bill and I took the bill back to the bar and waited so I could sign the receipt an get out of there. I really never submit this type of review but this is the second time this happened (first time we were sitting at the bar). We frequented RB for years when Manny and Lucy were the owners. So sorry to see it slide like this, it's close to home and we used to enjoy our time there. read more

What is going on? I haven't been to the Red Bridge in a while because the last time we went the service was so slow. The excuse then was unexpectedly short on staff. Well apparently it hasn't changed. Four of us were on our way from Lincoln to Seekonk on a Wed night. We planned to go to to Mack's but the bridge traffic was awful so we decided to go to Red Bridge. When we entered at 6:30 we were offered a high top or booth. We choose both. Waitress came quick, took drink order then after our drinks came she took our dinner order. That was the last time she was at the table. At 7:15 one of us got up to find and ask her how long. She said another 5 min. Excuse was a large party came in at the high tops. Well that wasn't true because there was only another party of 4 sitting where it was empty when we arrived. She never apologized, didn't ask if we need more drinks or bread. 5 min later our food did arrive. A gentleman brought it and he apologized. The food did taste great but not worth waiting an hour. We all ordered seafood dishes. Grilled octopus, scallops and salad with salmon. It wasn't just the fact it took so long, it was the lack of service and attention. The waitress walked by us to serve the table behind us and didn't even look at us. It was the first time coming here for half our party. What a bad experience. Unfortunately we all will not return and will let others know. Businesses complain about losing customers because of bridge construction. This was a destination to avoid the bridge. This has to be one of my favorite surprise finds! My partner and I were at a music event in East Providence, and he asked the bartender for a suggestion of a place nearby for dinner. She suggested this place. We've been back a few times since, and we'll be returning each time I get a craving for that amazing salad called The Chopped...which is Asian glazed Salmon on top of the most yummy salad with avocado, chopped egg and fried onions on top! My partner tries different Portuguese dishes each time and has never been disappointed. Their stuffies, filled with seafood stuffing, are also so delicious and we usually take a few home for the next day! The meal was delicious, but when I received the bill, it was $30.00 for a meatloaf plate and a Diet Coke!! I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed this place since we go fairly often. it's really great food at an affordable price. Service is always spot on. Whether we sit at the bar or dine in we are always taken care of. The menu is huge so there is something for everyone. I have had a lot of different things and so far they have all been good. Don't skip the bread they give you. It's delicious and the butter is so creamy. All the portions are huge so plan on having lunch the next day. Mozzarella moons are killer ! I hated to share them. The Buffalo Mac and cheese was one of the best I've ever had. Also they have a special sometimes , a steak fajita wrap. It's a really great place and I highly recommend it. read more

Stumbled upon this place when looking at food spots in Rhode Island. To start, we ordered stuffies. A stuffie is a Rhode-Island staple, which is a large stuffed clam with shrimp, crab, and clams. We enjoyed these a lot and they were very filling. For other food, I ordered their white clam chowder and overall enjoyed it. My husband ordered the sausage and peppers sandwich that was also good.
