The orange juice, however, was amazing definitely fresh and one of the highlights of the meal. The service was good. The staff was friendly and consistently checking in, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, what really turned me off was what I witnessed regarding food handling. I saw staff members come back from bussing tables and go straight to handling bread and putting it into the toaster without washing their hands or putting on gloves. Watching someone go from handling dirty dishes to preparing food without washing their hands was extremely unsanitary and honestly disgusting. That completely changed my impression of the restaurant. The price was also outrageous for what I received. My corned beef hash, orange juice, and a $6.50 tip came out to around $43 for one person. I just don't feel the food and overall experience were worth that price. The good: great freshly squeezed orange juice and attentive service. The bad: questionable food handling practices and very high prices. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.

Upon entering, you might have to wait a little bit by the door before being seated, out of the way of the service station. Once you're seated, they'll ask you for any drink preferences and then leave you to make your entree decisions. A different server will then take your order. I honestly recommend any breakfast fare (I'm particularly fond of the Mighty Moose for eating and having delicious leftovers but I've also gotten their fullstack with bananas AND chocolate chips which was perfect too). I haven't tried any of their dinner items yet but look forward to trying it. They're very good at refilling coffee as well. If you're lucky, there's a very sweet server that I enjoy meeting. The duck was so tender it felt I was having the duck version of filet mignon. I then had their Duroc Pork Tenderloin ( not the Tenderloin District in SF) which was tender and it feels like it fell off the bone. It was saucy and had good flavor. My favorite of all was the Seabream Sashimi with Virgin sauce. It was tender and tasty and melted in my mouth. I washed it down with glasses of red French Grenache. A good place to enjoy French food this Summer or this Fall in the Sunset Strip of San Francisco. Drinks are available on the other side of the room, and they have a great selection of beer and liquor (and I expect wines as well). I had a Ukrainian beer with my steak, and it hit the spot! Service at the bar is also quite good. I didn't have an Irish Coffee, since they didn't have fresh coffee made and we were in a bit of a time crunch, but I recall those being a treat as well. Huge helpings of tasty food at a reasonable price, and service with a smile makes this a heartwarming bit of San Francisco's classic dining. The burger was big and overall it tasted good. Patties were medium rare, which I didn't ask for, but I'm not complaining :). Though I wouldn't get bacon again because I was expecting a thicker cut for $3.50. Chef was nice and the food came out pretty quick too. Would go again.

When you get an omelet in any breakfast joint you are at the mercy of the cook. I won't call him a chef. Anyone making breakfast is a cook - even if his name is Emeril. Lunch and dinner, a chef. Back to the omelet. For me the omelet must not be shingle tough on the outside, not browned on the outside, and not runny or gooey inside. Sometimes the ingredients lend themselves to mucky interiors but if the egg is solidified, them I am good. We had a western omelet, and all criteria above were satisfied. The onions, green peppers and ham bits were diced to small enough pieces so they were cooked and not overbearing. I like hash browns extra crispy, ordered them that way, and they were. The first thing I got to compliment is the friendly and fast service. The waiter is always checking on you to make sure you are taken care of. Everything looks delicious, but I got to say that I've tried only a couple of things. Since the day I ordered "Carne Deshilada" I stayed with it. The shredded beef cooked with diced tomato, onions, bell pepper and spices served with rice and refried beans, and your choice of toast or tortilla is mouth-watering. I like to order my meal with a glass of orange juice. I am getting hungry already! The small place is always busy and because of the fast pace, you don't have to wait long to be seated. Tucked away near La Taqueria and Dianda's on Mission Street, you may miss this little unassuming "Mexican greasy spoon dinner", which blends in easily with its surroundings. Inside is a little gem - the best damn pancakes in the city bar none, plus decent huevos rancheros, nopales omelettes, generous sandwiches and salads. However, don't get cheese on your omelet (it's Kraft Singles) and hash browns are often underdone. They grind their Colombian drip fresh for each pot, and you can sit at the counter and watch the friendly Latina staff whip up their fluffy egg scrambles. I have been coming here for over 10 years now and this place never disappoints. My go to is the corned beef hash! Full of flavor, savory and all kinds of texture to it. This is truly my comfort breakfast spot in the Mission. The service here is amazing. I have known the owner since I was a kid and he always brings so much welcoming energy along with his staff memebers. The ambiance is more like an American diner style which I like for a casual breakfast spot. I highly recommend coming out here if you're in the area and want a filling breakfast. read more

Based on the reviews of the fellow Yelp reviewers and a massive craving for pancakes all of a sudden, we decided to try it out. Parking was a bit hard on a Saturday afternoon, however we were able to make it so it's fine. And, yes, we did have pancakes and it was really good. One of our favorite breakfast spots in the city. Warm service and awesome food. Stick with the El Salvadoran dishes. Killer chilaquiles, playable and huevos rancheros. Friends recently treated us to brunch at the Half Moon Bay Ritz Carlton where the huevos rancheros came highly recommended. Even if they were the same price (which they were not!), we'd still choose Red Cafe's dish hands down! read more

not so good. went expecting good chilaquiles - per other reviews. when I got them, I had to dump every bit of salsa, sour cream, hot sauce they gave me and a ton of salt just to get some taste in it. very bland and unevenly cooked. tried my girlfriend's hashbrowns, tasted the same. had to pour on salt. her corned beef hash was okay. meaning, it had a faint taste of corned beef hash. read more

I've been there a few times with friends. The food is very tasty and inexpensive. You don't have to wait long to be seated (max. I've waited is 5 min!). The staff is always friendly. The sandwich had a nice flavor, and the fries were fresh and hot. Everything tasted good. When I was a kid back in the '70s, we would always come here to grab something to munch on. It brought back some great memories. It's nice to see this old San Francisco favorite still around after all these years.

My last visit to Jim's was just last year, and from the soggy hash browns they served, I definitely had the sense they gave up trying to make good breakfast grub before closing (review: https://yelp.to/RdVy5a2x4B). I was surprised to find it had re-opened, this time under new ownership. A non-profit, Mission Language & Vocational School (MLVS), owns Jim's now, and they certainly spruced up the furnishings. The menu looked refreshed with all the familiar breakfast plates and a full page devoted to all-day specials. It was close to empty when I arrived in the middle of the morning. The first thing I had was a $3.25 cup of Coffee (Photo 10), and the attentive server (...dare I call her a waitress?) never allowed me to ask for a refill. I ordered the $18.95 Vegetarian Omelette which I think was a three-egger. It wasn't quite as fluffy as I like, but it was filled abundantly with spinach, sliced button mushrooms, and melted jack cheese. Even though they offered healthy side options like fresh fruit and salad, I still went for the hash browns which took up more of the plate than the eggs. The sourdough toast was dabbed liberally with melted butter, but I still used the Smuckers jelly cups (Photo 9). One thing I really appreciated was how attentive the staff is, once a table is done, they don't hesitate to clean it right away. It keeps the whole place feeling fresh and well cared for. You can also see into the kitchen and it's very clean, which always earns extra points in my book. Food wise, the eggs were decent fluffy and creamy, but the real standout was the French toast. Easily a 10/10. Warm, fluffy on the inside, with a nice light crunch on the outside and full of flavor. Exactly how French toast should be. The menu is solid and well rounded, making it a great option for both brunch and lunch. Nothing feels overdone just classic diner food done right. Overall, this is definitely a community diner gem in the Mission and I'll absolutely be coming back.

I ordered a cheeseburger with mushroom and Swiss cheese with french fries fries and a strawberry milkshake and my girlfriend ordered a burger as well. Same order is mine and also ordered a hotdog. Service is fast and reliable. You have to order the counter. I believe they were only cash only but now they take card. There's small seating and there's also outdoor seating so make sure that you or a friend can hold a seat for you.
