The food is ok the tres leches was a buttermilk pancake with some cream and milk . It was ok and it did not make my tummy ache. I am lactose intolerant. The egg with Plantain and Pork was delicious. The guy who served me spilled some of the Leches from my pancake. I ordered Carrot Juice but it was too gritty so I sent it back. The place was busy. I am visiting San Francisco and was craving Mexican food. I heard that the mission district has a some good places. I googled some good breakfast spots and Cafe La Taza was at the top of this list. It definitely deserves a spot in the top five. As soon as you walk in you're met with a very lively staff and environment! It is a bit of a small location, so make sure your party is no more than 4 people. Passion Fruit mimosas: 10/10 very refreshing Chilaquiles divorciados: 9/10 I am not a fan of pickled onions. Which is definitely a preference! Other than that, this plate was great! The red and green salsa was flavorful and not too spicy, I would say it's mild. You can also choose to add a protein. I got carnitas which were very juicy, but lacked a little bit of salt. A la Mexican breakfast burrito: 10/10 My friend ordered this and said that there was an immense amount of flavor! I was surprised they weren't using one of the many artisanal bakeries, but then we'd be encroaching on hipster territory. The tomatillo sauce really hit the spot, milder than expected. added a little punch. Generous avocado perfectly ripe. Bacon thick and to me perfectly cooked, a touch of chewy. Organic black tea, choice of large mug or takeout cup. Clean, airy front room, lots of tables, order counter & even a full bar. Back room too. Windows frosted on bottom to shield you from the reality of Mission street. I really like this place full of locals, & I'm not talking about Valencia street, couple blocks away, taken over by hipster cafes, artisan bread with your chai mocha matcha pumpkin magic dust. Not that there's anything wrong with that! I love the authentic Mission District feel, women in tight pants & crazy high heels, Latin dance beats, families, strollers, construction workers. Kinda hipster cafe for the working class. Bonus points, no laptop village! Nobody is nursing a half empty coffee cup all day. If you find yourself in The Mission, Cafe La Taza a solid choice. I saw this place featured on Check Please Bay Area recently. 3 of us came on Sunday for brunch, we were seated in the bar area. It is pretty loud in there. We started with sweet potato fries (my hubby's fav) and they were delectable - a perfect fry on them and they were served with a slightly spicy aioli. YUM. He also got caramel macchiato which he said was really good. I ordered the desayuno breakfast plate with over easy eggs. IT WAS A TON of food. The eggs were cooked to order, the pork was extremely tender, the beans were average,... sadly the weak link was the plantains - they were cooked fine - they just were not quite ripe enough and so less sweet than I typically like. My friend had the chiliequiles which she liked, and my husband basically got a plate which turned out to be the lunch version of mine - that had the same pork, rice and beans, fried cheese and a little salad. read more

Skip the food here - have gone twice just to see if the first occasion was a one-off but it only confirmed that this should be a coffee-only place. Bland breakfast potatoes, undercooked chorizo and extremely runny, watery eggs. Ordered a burrito the second time and it ended up being a greasy pile struggling to even be held together when you first hold it. My partner and I ordered at the same time on both occasions and both times our food arrived at drastically different times with no check-in or explanation from the server. The only form of inquiry about our meal was when the server finally dropped off the remainder of our food and asked if we would like ketchup as he was walking away. The whole thing seemed rushed and disingenuous. Giving a star because some of the staff is nice enough and were able to accommodate a custom coffee order but other than that, I would struggle to even give one. read more

What a nice neighborhood brunch spot! The workers are super welcoming, and seems like the restaurant have a ton of regulars. I got the carnitas omelette, and my group shared the chips and salsa/guac. I liked my omelette! It was a good amount of carnitas. I'd never had that in an omelette before so that was fun. I wish there was a bit more flavor, but I added some of their mild salsa and the guac from my chips and it was much better. I got fruit as a side, and was pleasantly surprised by the variety they gave me (blueberry, strawberry, cantaloupe, pineapple). The chips and salsa/guac were great. Super refreshing. I especially liked the guac. $10 is pretty pricey though for this appetizer. My one other gripe is that the prices on the menu for some of the dishes aren't updated. I came to meet a friend here for lunch. My friend asked if she could just get chicken and rice because she was on a special diet and the waitress said yes and asked if I was ready and I said I just needed another minute. We found out later that she went and put in the order, didn't come back for 10 minutes and when she did to take my order, she brought the plate for my friend so we didn't get to eat at the same time. I ordered the chipotle chicken salad I have to say as somebody who's lived in SF and it wasn't great. The chicken was cooked well but the rest of it was iceberg lettuce, flavorless cubed tomatoes, cucumbers, corn chop strips and almost no dressing on the salad. My stomach doesn't feel great afterwards, it is cheap but I wouldn't recommend it. read more

At the recent showing of Check Please, this restaurant got rave reviews. So natch, since it's in my area I had to check it out and wasn't disappointed. Glad to see other reviews were equally as favorable. First the coffee was perfectly strong and came in a huge mug $3.75. Service was nice and attentive. Despite the fact almost every table was full. I so wanted to try the Leche pancakes but went for a more healthy entree. The Chorizo Scramble $17, which had the perfect amount of heat and was cooked soft, like I like my scrambles. I ordered it with the beans and tortillas. The tortillas worked well as a mini soft taco. All in all it was delicious and I will be back. Parking can be a challenge, but don't give up, it's worth it. Next time I'm walking out w/a pice of that delicious looking Guava Cake. Not cheap $25 including tip, but what is these days. read more

My mom called ahead for a pickup order which was hung up on twice for speaking Spanish. Once answered, a person spoke Spanish which my mom had asked why they hung up on her, to then the representative stating they didn't spoke Spanish so they didn't understand her. Why work at a Spanish speaking establishment and not bother to pick up on any Spanish phrases? Once picking up the order the lady who had hung up on my mom stated to my mom that she needs to speak English since we're in America. My mom is bilingual and the fact you're stating to your customers that they need to speak a specific language to place an order for food speaks volume. The associate is a white passing Latina who doesn't even bother learning or speaking spanish. The name of the establishment is in Spanish. This place is a joke with watery coffee and flavorless food. This place is a neighborhood gem in the heart of heart of the Mission. From the moment we walked in, Alejandra welcomed us with warmth & invited us to take a seat in the back dining room. I ordered a dulce de leche latte with oat milk & my partner ordered a black coffee. Both were amazing, actually my partner says it's the best coffee he's had in a while. I ordered the Chilaquiles with both kinds of sauce. I definitely preferred the green to the red however, the whole plate was delicious & a decent portion of food; so much so I didn't finish. My partner ordered the breakfast burrito & said it was very tasty. They open early & the energy inside is lively. We love coming here for weekend breakfast and brunch. There's never a line, the service is quick and friendly, and the atmosphere feels cozy and homey. Everything we've tried has been delicious -- especially the bacon breakfast burrito and huevos rancheros. The habanero salsa is a must-try! Overall 5/10 - Laid back spot with an overly giant menu. Decent food but I wasn't blown away by the eggs/coffee I had. Bonus points for a super cheap (~$8.50) 2 egg breakfast option and great staff. Middle-of-the-road option for breakfast. You could do worse. Outdoor decor/seating - 5/10 - basic, functional. Cheap plastic benches and table under a covered semi-transparent canopy. Indoor decor - 7/10 - It has a diner vibe but it seemed well put together from the brief glance I had. Not a special date spot but felt clean and like some thought was given to aesthetics. Service - 10/10 - super nice folks who were attentive. Menu presentation - 3/10 - menu is scary big and has lots of diverse foods (pasta/wings/burgers/ceviche/breakfast stuff/etc). This usually warns me that they might be a jack of all trades that doesn't do one thing particularly well. To be seen if that's true or not. The menu itself is a ripped, folded set of papers that has seen better days. Coffee - 1/10 - it was really bad but they brought milk and sugar to balance it out and make it drinkable. I appreciate that but normally I take it black. I couldn't here - so bad. Clearly comes from some carafe that has sat for hours. Had to laugh that the receipt called it "fresh coffee". Food - 4/10 - I came for brunch and so I had the chorizo scramble which was about $15.50. It was definitely decent. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs but a reasonable portion of the potatoes were super burnt and inedible. If this was $12 I would probably give it a 6/10. Not mind blowing but it left me satisfied. I saw they have a basic two egg breakfast with toast/potatoes for 8.50 which is actually a pretty killer deal out here in the mission. Definitely want to give them points for that. read more

La Taza is the best cafe. they have a wide selection in meals from bagels to pancakes and the BURGERS ARE AWESOME. Don't even get me started on their coffee. That seasonal Horchata latte has to stay around...but their mocha is the best thing i've ever tasted. Taza is my go to, they have the kindest and sweetest staff who constantly have smiles on their faces. I look forward to my morning coffee everyday! read more

I gave it a four because of the Cuban sandwich that my niece came for was no longer on the menu. The owner who helped wait on tables took very good care of us and even though busy, came to explain they like to try new dishes but had the Cuban sandwich done anyway, to the delight of my niece. It looked scrumptious and had me wishing I had ordered it too, but my French toast that I was craving, was good, with two eggs cooked like one wants, and sausage patties (2). We were first seated where we came in but when offered the back room and my niece chose it instead. I quickly vetoed it because it was crowded and loud. Not my cup of tea, so we sat next to the window at a table that sat alone. Perfect. All in all, my experience was good for a Sunday in the Mission at noontime. Parking can be super tough so I parked at the garage on 21st and Bartlett St. ($4 an hour on Sundays and $3 the rest of the week). I'll be back to try the breakfast Cuban sandwich. read more
