Came here after the place we were going to had a very long wait and we were hungry. Food was great. Coffee was strong and latte was good. Looks like they own both the coffee shop and the bar next door. They were full and sat us in the bar area but it was set up for breakfast.

I am visiting San Francisco and was craving Mexican food. I heard that the mission district has a some good places. I googled some good breakfast spots and Cafe La Taza was at the top of this list. It definitely deserves a spot in the top five. As soon as you walk in you're met with a very lively staff and environment! It is a bit of a small location, so make sure your party is no more than 4 people. Passion Fruit mimosas: 10/10 very refreshing Chilaquiles divorciados: 9/10 I am not a fan of pickled onions. Which is definitely a preference! Other than that, this plate was great! The red and green salsa was flavorful and not too spicy, I would say it's mild. You can also choose to add a protein. I got carnitas which were very juicy, but lacked a little bit of salt. A la Mexican breakfast burrito: 10/10 My friend ordered this and said that there was an immense amount of flavor! There's no meat in it; just eggs, veggies, beans and rice. She had no complaints!

Food was good! I didn't really like the torta milanesa because it kept falling apart, messy/slippery. But I will definitely be back!

BRITNEY!! The server was fabulous!! The barbarian burrito was excellent a d very large portion! BLENDED Matcha..delicious!

1045a Tuesday Avocado Toast with Tomatillo Sauce & Bacon, hold the Parmesan Cheese. Absolutely a winner. The bread is thin sourdough slices, hey, actually toasted! I was surprised they weren't using one of the many artisanal bakeries, but then we'd be encroaching on hipster territory. The tomatillo sauce really hit the spot, milder than expected. added a little punch. Generous avocado perfectly ripe. Bacon thick and to me perfectly cooked, a touch of chewy. Organic black tea, choice of large mug or takeout cup. Clean, airy front room, lots of tables, order counter & even a full bar. Back room too. Windows frosted on bottom to shield you from the reality of Mission street. I really like this place full of locals, & I'm not talking about Valencia street, couple blocks away, taken over by hipster cafes, artisan bread with your chai mocha matcha pumpkin magic dust. Not that there's anything wrong with that! I love the authentic Mission District feel, women in tight pants & crazy high heels, Latin dance beats, families, strollers, construction workers. Kinda hipster cafe for the working class. Bonus points, no laptop village! Nobody is nursing a half empty coffee cup all day. If you find yourself in The Mission, Cafe La Taza a solid choice. For me destination worthy. Support Local!

I saw this place featured on Check Please Bay Area recently. 3 of us came on Sunday for brunch, we were seated in the bar area. It is pretty loud in there. We started with sweet potato fries (my hubby's fav) and they were delectable - a perfect fry on them and they were served with a slightly spicy aioli. YUM. He also got caramel macchiato which he said was really good. I ordered the desayuno breakfast plate with over easy eggs. IT WAS A TON of food. The eggs were cooked to order, the pork was extremely tender, the beans were average,... sadly the weak link was the plantains - they were cooked fine - they just were not quite ripe enough and so less sweet than I typically like. My friend had the chiliequiles which she liked, and my husband basically got a plate which turned out to be the lunch version of mine - that had the same pork, rice and beans, fried cheese and a little salad.

    Carnitas omelette, chips and guac

What a nice neighborhood brunch spot! The workers are super welcoming, and seems like the restaurant have a ton of regulars. I got the carnitas omelette, and my group shared the chips and salsa/guac. I liked my omelette! It was a good amount of carnitas. I'd never had that in an omelette before so that was fun. I wish there was a bit more flavor, but I added some of their mild salsa and the guac from my chips and it was much better. I got fruit as a side, and was pleasantly surprised by the variety they gave me (blueberry, strawberry, cantaloupe, pineapple). The chips and salsa/guac were great. Super refreshing. I especially liked the guac. $10 is pretty pricey though for this appetizer. My one other gripe is that the prices on the menu for some of the dishes aren't updated. Great service though, perfect for a lowkey convenient and hearty brunch.

This time we were a party of 4 and were celebrating a birthday which they acknowledged and thoughtfully wished happy birthday to our celebrated guest. This time I ordered the ceviche limeño, which was a mix of shrimp, white fish, octopus and calamari served with crunchy corn, soft corn and sweet potato marinated in a delicious sauce with a hint of spice (the base tasted similar to leche de Tigre) Other guests in my party ordered the whole roasted cauliflower with eggplant puree, and the rice with shrimp. Both were delicious. I tried two new alcohol-free drinks: guayaba healer (guava, lime and tajin) and the red October. Both were tasty, however for non alcoholic drinks $12 is a little steep, particularly for the red October which is served in a fluted cup and has a lot less volume than the other non-alcoholic drinks. We ordered two desserts, both were excellent: the suspiro loco with cotton candy and Dulce de leche, strawberries and crumbled graham cracker-like cookies, was crazy and fun, yet well balanced. The second dessert was the tapioca tropical, which is a tapioca pudding with toasted coconut, raspberry and ice cream, which was not too sweet and quite delicious. We got a complimentary coconut tres leches for the birthday guest, which was also delectable. As for the service, it was definitely improved compared to last time, yet not seamless. We were sitting inside this time and had a bigger party. Our waitress was very friendly, however one of the items we ordered never arrived and I had to point it out to them when the check arrived. She apologized and they took it off right away. One of the hosts came to check in on us a couple of times throughout the meal which was much appreciated. Our water glasses were kept full, however it still seems they are understaffed. If I could give half stars they would get 3 1/2 but since the food has been consistently good I guess 4 starts will do for now.

We decided on La Mar. I had been many years ago and remember it being good. Only the bar area is open from 3-5 during the weekdays. Service started fine with our server being attentive and quick. They even came around right before 5 and asked us if we wanted another round of drinks before happy hour ended. We both decided to get a glass of wine. About 10-15 minutes later, we were still on our first drinks when the server came back and told us we needed to close out and leave. I was surprised by this sudden interruption so I asked for clarification. I thought maybe they were changing shifts so we just needed to close out. They said no, we needed to close out and leave because they need the table back. I again asked for more details. I explained we still had our wines we hadn't touched, the bar was more than half empty and they should have told us when we sat down if there was a time limit with the table. At that point, they didn't know what to say so I asked for a manager. At first no one came back except the server who still insisted we pay. So I reluctantly told them i will close out our bill but we'd like to finish our wine before leaving. They then said that was fine, we could stay. A few minutes later another person came to our table and apologized for the miscommunication. They said something about getting us mixed up with another table who had a reservation for dinner there, then told us we can stay as long as we'd like as long as they got the table back for a 6:15 reservation. I'm not sure how the mix-up occurred but what a poor way to end an otherwise solid experience. Drinks and the ceviche we had were all delicious.

Everything we had here was surprisingly delicious. We had the Paella Mixta. Normally when we have Spanish paella I'm dissapointed by the scarcity of seafood and the chewiness of undercooked rice, but OMG this paella was delicious. The rice was so flavorful and addictive and there was an endless amount of juicy chicken, tender fish, shrimp, calamari, mussels . We're normally done scavenging for the good stuff in a minute between the four of us , but we even had leftovers tonight which was awesome. We also really enjoyed the plantain appetizer, the plantains were cooked, so tender and sweet, but also had these nice crisp edges. Also loved the black bean puree it came with. Also ordered the cheese quesadillas which were awesome. The cheese tasted so good, I assume it was Oaxacan cheese, it didn't taste like a plain mozzarella quesadilla Warm spinach salad was surprisingly tasty as well ! Comes with a light creamy dressing that wasn't overpowering, and well flavored by the mushrooms. I even had them removed the bacon and it was still a very tasty dish. With no planning, we showed up at Pacifico, which was just a couple blocks from our concert. The restaurant was a little weird - it sits within the lobby of the SF Jazz recital hall, and all the signs are for "B-Side". It's a little unclear to me still whether the restaurant is called B-Side or Pacifico, but the waiter told us that Pacifico is new, with a new chef and new menu. The inspirations are Colombia, Peru, and California cooking, which was very appealing to us. We ordered two items off the specials menu (Tuna Tostada and Short Rib) and one from the permanent menu (Hearts of Palm Ceviche). The Tuna Tostada was both of our favorite. It was light, refreshing, and there were these little pops of flavor from burnt, deeply fried jalapeños. The Hearts of Palm ceviche was interesting and unique (a completely vegetarian dish, but made in the style of ceviche and with leche de tigre). Ultimately, it was more interesting than appetizing. Finally, the Short Rib was well cooked, but unfortunately just way too sweet for our palate.
