Probably THE worst Indian food I've ever had - ever. So oily, all of the dishes had at least a tablespoon of oil floating on top. The spinach saag looked like something I've never seen before- you couldn't even tell it was a spinach dish because there was something red or meat like mixed into it. It was barely green. Authentic, delicious, unique! This instantly became one of my favorite restaurants ever. They bring free rose water, melon slices, and doughy-fried something or others to everyone, a gesture which makes you feel so hospitably taken care of. My boyfriend and I were basically freaking out like gustatory weirdos the entire time we ate (shoveled spastically) our lamb curry with rice, garlic Naan and somosas - it was all ambrosia nectar! The guy who runs (owns?) this place is really sweet and when you look around you will see all non-white people eating here. If you have garnered any intelligence living in LA, you know this is a sign that the food is bomb and you've come to the right place... one more thing to note: the lamb was tender as hell and the spices were different and more delicious than traditional Indian spices. Extremely rude owner and customer service, service exceptionally horrible, severely unstaffed, 45mins avg food wait times during, prices have increased more than 40% during the past year and more importantly, food quality has gone down. Nihari house is much better. read more

This is not based by the food because I did not have a chance to try it. I drove 45 minutes to taste what they had to offer and little to my knowledge the place ended up closing at 9:30 instead of 10 o'clock as stated on Google. Called the kitchen at 9:10 and told them that we were on our way and they told us that the kitchen was closing and we cannot sit down. Ummmm you might want to get your hours straight. Came there once with friends for lunch and ordered 2 beef niharis: the small dish came back with one piece of beef each in each dish! How the heck can 3 adults share just sauce and 2 pieces of beef? We complained and got more meat. But to give them another try, I came back with my father during Ramadan. Another family and I waited for the free iftar and helloooo, it wasn't there and we had to open our fast with water that I got myself from the counter and found some cups. We asked our waiter and he had no idea what iftari was, he hadn't seen the huge sign outside the restaurant door that said "free iftar"!!! Are you kidding me?? Then we complained and a guy ran out from the kitchen and gave us and the other family a plate of samosas, fruit, pakoras, dates and later some rooh afza in milk....but it was like 10 min after the time to break our fasts! Then my father ordered some food which came after 45 min. By this time we were starving from fasting all day and were about to leave but we wanted to give these guys a chance and curiosity kept us there. The chicken biryani: hard chewy chicken. The lamb saag: lamb was hard and not marinated long enough in the spinach and spices. Nobody attended to us to refill our water, or to bring us the naan until wayyy later, and the manager/owner didn't give a darn and was smoking outside and attending to some favored folks every 5 min to make sure they were enjoying their visit and gave them free dessert and chai. No offense to those customers but it was really horrible service for us and the other families, especially from the waiter who was clueless with some tell-tale red eyes. Never ever going back there again, especially since the manager couldn't care less or take the time to train his employees from his constant smelly cigarette breaks right outside the front door!!! Way too expensive for what you get! Almost $12 for a chicken curry with only 3 small pieces of chicken in the container?? That was crazy and very disappointing. The naan and paratha - $3 for one (really small.) I could buy 2 whole chickens for that money! Though the food was somewhat tasty, I couldn't get my mind off the small portions for the money. I can only afford to go here once every few months, so it's kind of forgettable, when they'll only be small pieces of chicken, not even enough for one person! They would do better to give bigger portions, so that people will come back to buy more. read more

I expected much more than I got. They ran out of lamb , and a few other menu items , I ordered chicken masala ( I expected to get a larger portion than what I was served ) , none of their entrees come with rice , so the least expensive rice costs $5 !! What ? Other places charge $1.00 and up on their steamed rice....unfortunately .my chicken was not tender at all . My order came out 10 min before my companions meals came out . I also got over charged on my bill , it would have been nice had they checked on us after we were served . The small things count a lot , when we were seated , they brought over all the plates and the forks ( which they held from the part we put in our mouths - yuk ) and they left them stacked up on our table , and walked away - we had some young kids with us who were starving , we got our first meal ( the naan bread ) about 25 min after we ordered.......so be warned , don't come too hungry , and check your bills. Things need to be more organized , at one point the owner ran next door and bought a missing item from the grocery store next door and took it to the kitchen ; expedite your meals and please do not bring everything out all at once , appetizers and bread before meals please. I used to love this restaurant and I was a very frequent customer at this establishment until I recently went and I was surprised to see the indian girl working at the counter with the most attitude "was making faces at people" as if this restaurant was serving free food. The owners had always greeted people and are nice and working hard to keep customers coming back not realizing that this employee is ruining customer experience.... sad to see this place going down! read more

I'm a longtime customer and I usually come by once a week for dinner with my coworkers. Last week I came by and they were having a buffet style dinner. There was a vast range of options, both vegetarian and not. They brought out fresh helpings often and never ran short. Even though there were many options, each dish was flavorful and different. We tried this place while we were driving back from LA. Loved their lunch combo. 3 curries, Rice and Naan. Taste was too good, quantity was sufficient. Only problem was, you don't have much choices, 2 chicken based fish, 3 veggie dish and tandoori chicken. Overall it was a nice experience though. read more

I really like this place. The food is so flavorful and tasty. They have a good assortment of dishes too. There's always something new to try each visit. Some of my favorite dishes are the bngan bhartha, lamb vindaloo, and the cheese naan. Their grill plates are excellent whether you're ordering chicken or beef the meat always comes out juicy and spiced just right. For all you vegetarians out there the menu offers many options as well. My friend and I visited the restaurant during lunch time. The restaurant was fairly empty so the service was fast. We had not visited an indian restaurant in a long time and needed recommendation on what to order, kamal the waiter was an expert in this field and recommend the meal which was very delicious. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the service was great! We had the channa and lamb saag which were fantastic and perfectly spiced! We ordered a chicken dish that came out a little too burnt. Although we don't live in the area, we had read a review in the L.A. Times and tried this restaurant for the first time last night since we were attending a performance at CSUN. Had a chicken dish called Tawa - just wonderful! Lots of flavor and very different from anything we've had before - and hope to have many times in the future! So in love with their food! Parking in the area sucks!! Service is alright. Food, its delicious. I order the Nahari asked for extra spicy (wasnt extra spicy but the lady was kind enough to bring me a side of their spice sauce) . The meat melts in your mouth. Good portion but a but greasy. My husband order the tandoori platter. It was good but the chicken was a bit dry. Their paan (plain and garlic) is so delicious. I can just eat that with their spice sauce all day. It wasnt busy in restaurant but they had a lot of take out orders. I was able to see the cooks work in the back. They kept their area CLEAN! Before they cooked our meal i was them sweep, wipe, and wash up their work area. They did the same thing immediately after they place our food on the plate and served it to us. Cleanliness was a plus! I did notice they added a few more items on their menu (compare to the one posted here) and their price increase by $2.
