this place has been on my list for a while and i finally decided to stop by since i was in the area. the menu is easily visible when you walk in and you order with the cashier. i ordered the roti canai and the tom yum wings to go. i have a bad sense of time but i'd say it took about 7-10 minutes to get my order. i opened it in the car when i was at a red light and the plastic lid on the yellow curry was already melted bc it was too hot T.T i'm so sad, i love yellow curry and roti at other establishments and wanted to try it here. i still ate the roti and it was flakey and good. if only i had something to dip it in. the tom yum wings were fire, and the sauce that it comes with really enhances the flavor. -1 star the melted lid LOL hopefully they'll have better take out container options, but otherwise, solid
Stopped by for lunch on Saturday per my bro's recommendation to try their tom yum wings. I got that and the pad see ew. At first, I was a bit skeptical about the wings. Although it came out piping hot, there appeared to be a ton of dry rub on it and so I was afraid it'd be too salty. To my delight it was gooooood- gotta have it with the sauce. The pad see ew was also gd. Chewy with the right ratio of noods, veg, and protein. This spot is the perfect size for a take out place with 3 tables. Highly rec their great wkday deals if you're too tired or busy to cook.
TikTok brought me here... Tom yum, larb, lemon zaap, and passionfruit habanero wings! Probably collabs but worth a try since I was in the area. The wings ($13.95) were just aight...while meaty, they were overdone, dry, and the Thai spices were too mild. I like bold in YOUR face spices. What you need to try? THE TAMARIND FRIED FISH ($20)! Large flaky filets of basa (?) coated in a thin, crispy batter coated in a sticky sweet and sour tamarind glaze (wish it was more tart and tangy tho). The fried basil added a shatteringly crunchy texture and slightly peppery spice. Bomb with a side of the sticky rice ($3.50)! As we were leaving, a regular came in with a friend and said, "My fav fish is the Tamarind Fish, we have to get that." Period. O T H E R I N F O * Red Chili started in 2004 (Hayward) serving Thai and Vietnamese Food. * Fast-casual service - order on kiosk and seat yourself. Self-serve water. * Food quickly arrived (the only customers on Saturday). * We also ordered the Pad Se Ew w/ shrimp ($17.95) and it ran bland. * IMO, I feel like they play it safe with the spices and seasoning. * Limited seating with 5-6 tables.
Food was good! Portion sizes were really big and the spring rolls were really thick! The yellow curry was tasty and pad kee mao was not bad but not anything crazy. The thai iced tea was strong but a little too sweet for me Service was okay, they were friendly and dishes came out fast. Sometimes hard to get their attention since its a small store! Its in a quiet spot and there is a small number of tables to eat at but it did feel clean!! Next time we'll have to try the wings!
TLDR: good food, but skip on coconut water I'm a big fan of their green curry, ton yum soup, pork, mango dishes, and coconut rice. The coconut water isn't worth it for $4.50 It tastes like the sweetened frozen pack from Asian supermarkets, and the cup is loaded with ice cubes.
Sad that they removed the spaghetti dishes from the menu....they were so good and unique and a nice option when someone wants some fusion food. It seems relatively easy to keep it on the menu, not sure why it was removed. Please bring back spaghetti and penne! Otherwise, the store seems to be picking up more business recently, which is great! Our favorite Thai place in the area!
Had a weird experience here. Came in 35 minutes before closing and you know when you can just tell someone has an attitude, that's immediately what I felt as we were looking at the menu deciding what to order. I got the impression that the worker taking our order was trying to rush us out. And I understand we came near closing, but the restaurant closed at 8:30. I would be more understanding if we came 5 minutes before closing but we didn't. What I don't understand is we weren't the only people there, there were people that came to order after us. I didn't get her name, but that really did alter my experience here. Ordered the fire and chili wings, roti, pork fried rice, and the short rib plate. All of the items came out one by one and by 8:20 we got all of our items. We were given to go boxes even though we let her know we were dining in. She told us it was because they would be closing soon which I was okay with. Once we got our food, we ate it at a table and were out the door by their closing time. I chose not to finish my food and took the rest to go since I knew they were closing. The food was great, I really enjoyed the crispiness of the wings, and the flavor of the short ribs. Those were the two stand out items to me. However, I don't think I'll be back here unless I ordered takeout because of the awkward and tense hospitality.
I walked into Red chili as they were opening for dinner service. The girls behind the counter were really nice and made me feel welcome even though they barely opened. I ordered a red curry with beef and mistakenly didn't order the plate, but they were more than happy to help me fix it so I got the rice I wanted as well. I took the curry home for dinner and it was amazing. Sweet and spicy, with the rice cooked perfectly. The shop is cute with a handful of tables and fun pictures on the wall. The hours make it hard for me to come in, but any chance I get, I love going in.
FOOD : Every time I come to eat here, I feel like I'm at home. The food is really delicious and tastes homemade. The Pad Thai is very tasty, and the Thai tea is also really good . Everything has great flavor SERVICE: The service is very good. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. I've also had the chance to talk with the lady manager there, and she is very kind. That makes the place feel even more special. AMBIANCE: The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed, a nice place to enjoy a meal. There's also plenty of parking, which is very convenient. In the same shopping area there are other stores like Safeway, pizza places, a barbershop, nail salon, pharmacy, and more. Honestly, I really like this place. The food feels homemade and I always leave happy. I definitely recommend it.
Been there, Thai-ed them twice. They have 2 locations (San Jose and Hayward). It's a family-owned small business serving delicious Thai/ Vietnamese dishes. Pretty solid selection to choose from. You definitely get your money's worth here. Many people were raving about their tamarind fish filet so ordered that. It did not disappoint. Kinda sweet and crispy. The portion was actually pretty big. I also ordered some staple dishes, such as pad thai with chicken (medium spice), panang curry with shrimp (mild spice) and tom yum chicken wings. The curry was so flavorful. Tom yum chicken had such an addicting seasoning and I wanted more wings afterwards. I have to try their larb chicken wings next time. Pad Thai was not bad. Not my fave but still good nonetheless. I'm more of a pad see ew gal anyways. Can't leave without getting some green thai tea and thai tea. Ended the meal with some yummy mango sticky rice. The heart shaped sticky rice is so cute! They also sell catering party trays! Make sure to call ahead. Why cook when you can save the hassle and order for your next gathering!! One of my FAVORITE Thai spots in the area!!! Service was great and food came our way in a very short amount of time. The berryessa location had a smaller interior that quickly filled up around dinner time, but the food itself was DELICIOUS.
My wife and I have been here for many years and I've finally had the time to write a review. This place is our go-to Thai place. We do a lot of takeout here and we've always enjoyed their quality and portion size. We either order at the kiosk or place an order over the phone. The food takes 15-20 minutes to be ready. I love their fried chicken -- specifically their tom yum and larb wings. I highly recommend it!
Where to find the best tamarind fish fillet in the Bay Area! This family owned small business has the best Vietnamese x Thai Fusion dishes. Their chicken wings are a MUST GET. The perfect crunch and bursting with flavor. They also have combos that comes with a side and salad for under $20 and does catering! Service is the best and it's the cutest spot!
Dang, TikTok does it again! Gotta give credit where it's due. I've lived near Red Chili for sometime and had only tried their pad see ew before (which was already really good), but this time I ordered catering for a party: two small trays of wings, one laab flavor and one tom yum. Everything was ready in about 45 minutes, neatly packed, and honestly the wings were absolute hitters at the party. Both flavors were SO good and perfectly fried. I'm really glad I got both because everyone had a favorite. Perfect potluck food and definitely something I'd order again. Highly recommend! read more
It's a solid Thai spot! Honestly, I wasn't expecting much because this isn't in a Thai-dense area in terms of restaurants, but my friend and I were very pleased. We've eaten around quite a bit, and Thai is something we both enjoy. We each ordered a curry combo which comes with a salad, rice and curry. A meal definitely worth coming back for. It's worth its price in terms of price, quantity and quality. The chicken satay was an interesting experience. The chicken was disappointing, but the peanut sauce helped. This place serves the satay with some pieces of toast which was new for both of us. I was bold enough to try it all together and it just tasted like a toast with peanut butter and some dry chicken. Not bad, but not something I would make for myself. The place is small, so the waitress had an easy manning the floor which she did very well. She did forget one of our items, but it wasn't intentional. She also reacted very quickly when we brought it to her attention. Overall, I'd recommend people to this place if they're looking for some quick Thai food. read more
My family and I enjoyed lunch from Red Chili, supporting the San Jose Yu-Ai Kai sponsored lunch the other day. The Yu-Ai Kai sponsor lunch once a month and featured a different restaurant in the area. It's a great way to support the Yu-Ai Kai and introduces people to new restaurants in the area. As a bonus, all the proceeds are donated to a good cause. For this lunch, Red Chili was the featured restaurant. The boxed lunch consisted of Thai Yellow Chicken Curry, Tofu Pad Thai, Jasmine Rice and a Green Salad with a tasty Miso Dressing. The portion size was really good. It allowed you to taste all the delish items. The Red Chili restaurant is nearby in San Jose, off of Berryessa Road. After enjoying this boxed lunch, I will have to go to the restaurant and see what other delish dishes they offer. read more

I tried the coconut curry soup here for the first time, and while the food tasted good at first, my experience was ruined toward the end when I found what looked like a bug in my soup. I took photos of the food and the bug because it was really upsetting and disappointing. I had planned on coming back another time, but after this first experience, I will not be returning. I wish I could put 0 stars but oh well. read more

This review is long overdue! Found red chili a few years ago and enjoyed everything we ordered. Each time we've gone back we've found a new item that was so good! Mango fish, tamarind fish, fish sauce wings.... January 2025 they catered my son's 1st birthday and Tiffany was super helpful throughout the entire process! Like I mean answering all my questions before we even ordered, making food labels with allergen information, getting all the details before day of service. On the actual delivery day got to meet mom and dad who made sure everything was set up properly. Such a sweet family running an amazing restaurant! read more

If you were to only order one thing from here it should be the TOM YUM WINGS. I was thinking it would taste like the tom yum instant ramen seasoning, but I was incredibly wrong. They are packed with flavor from the tom yum and the batter is so crispy without being oily. You can actually taste the different components of tom yum like lemongrass and galangal, it was very pleasant. There were 6 wings total, wish there were 1 or 2 more at least. They offer a few other types of fried chicken wings too like Larb flavor! Will be back to try that for sure. It's a small establishment with about 5 tables inside. You order and pay first, then grab a seat. No restrooms. Friendly service and checked on us a few times during our meal. read more

This small family owned restaurant has some of the best Thai food I've ever had. I ordered online and it was ready at the pickup time. I ordered the pad kee mao, medium spicy with beef. This meal was HEAVENLY. Huge portion, just the right amount of spice, perfectly seasoned. The Thai tea is brewed well and isn't too sweet. Service was super friendly. I love supporting local restaurants and this one will definitely be on repeat for me! read more
I was drawn in by the variety of tropical fruit-based dishes like mango, pineapple, and passion fruit! The restaurant is conveniently located near Safeway, so it's perfect for a quick stop after shopping. There's plenty of parking available too! The inside of the shop is a bit small and busy, so we decided to order takeout. Panang Combo Thai Curry: I got it medium spicy with chicken and upgraded to coconut rice for an extra charge. The chicken was tender and plentiful, pairing perfectly with the flavorful, spicy curry. The coconut rice was soft with a subtle coconut aroma. Personally, I think regular rice pairs better with the curry for a lighter taste, but the included salad made the whole combo feel well-balanced! Tamarind Fish Fillet: The fish was super fluffy and went great with the rice. Since the space inside is limited, I think I'll go with delivery next time! read more

First time at Red Chili and I was so impressed! They serve Vietnamese and Thai fusion dishes. From items like larb salad to Vietnamese nuoc mam wings (savory fish sauce wings). It's tucked in a plaza with plenty of parking, so no stress there. I came with a friend on a Tuesday evening, and it was way busier than I expected. We waited about 30 minutes for our food, but it was worth it. I ordered the chicken basil with garlic noodles--so flavorful and delicious. I paired it with a Thai tea that was creamy and perfectly sweet. There's some indoor seating available if you want to dine in or just chill while waiting for your order. The menu is huge, and I can't wait for my next visit to try more items. Also wanted to give an honorable mention to our cashier, Brandon--he was super helpful and patient, which made the experience even better! He handled the busy day well. The ambiance reminds me of a family owned restaurant and that's how you know the food is going to be good. read more

I'm definitely going to be frequenting this spot more often. The food was made very well and the service is so friendly. My favorite was the roti canai. The roti was so flakey on the outside and had a nice chew on the inside. The curry sauce to dip it in was well balanced. The price is so reasonable as well - I'm paying like $16 up at some spots in the city and this is half for way better quality. For the trini folks, this is as good as some of the best buss up shut I've had. The wings were cooked perfectly and had a great crunch on the outside and very juicy inside. I liked the larb wings in particular - I've never had anything like it and it has so much seasoning packed in the crust. The passionfruit wings were pretty good, imagine a better orange chicken sauce. I think it could've used a little more kick though. The current sauce as is would be great for kids. The tom yum here is one of the best in the South Bay. The broth had so much depth in it and the right balance. My friends and I were huge fans of the tamarind fried fish. It also had great balance and the fish was cooked to a perfect flakey texture. The pad thai was cooked really well. They didn't overcook the pork like so many other places do. The sauce had depth and the noodles were still chewy. The service was very comforting. All the staff checked on us and serviced service with a smile. I wish they had a restroom though - I like to wash up before and after eating finger foods like wings and roti. There's a safeway nearby that you can walk to. I'll definitely be ordering from here again! read more
Gotta say that this place has quality Thai food...and then some. I was impressed with the menu options. Thai fusion spaghetti? Come on! That is just too good. I came here for Elite Week and had to bring my daughter to try this place. She loved it too. FOOD: My daughter got the shrimp and green bean stir fry with garlic noodles and the garlic noodles were on point. So good. Really nice flavors all around. The shrimp was cooked delicately and tasted fresh and tasty. Green beans were good for green beans but my daughter likes them and that's all that matters. Overall, another good meal at this place. SERVICE: Super nice people and the food was served quickly and packaged perfectly. When we got home, it looked so nice in the box and was still hot where it should be. COST: For what you get, this place is great. Cost is on point. And worth it! Will definitely be back! read more
Tried their pad Thai and didn't stand out as much. They serve two different Roti styles (one with curry and one dessert style) Both were good. The Roti Canai had that fluffy, flakey texture that I like my roti to have. The curry was also seasoned well. The dessert one was cooked with egg and had some condensed milk drizzled over it. It was alright to me - tasted like a crepe if anything. I would have enjoyed it more if it had the flakeyness of the Canai. read more

Sending a huge shoutout to Ryan and Tiffany for their great service and hospitality. The interior was welcoming and the vibe was already welcoming. It's been a while since I've seen above and beyond service. It seems Red Chili has been around for several years, but looks like it's under new management of some sort. And the "Now Open" sign outside is new. Regardless of the matter, based on service alone, I'm positively rating this a 5/5 star because I feel they deserve it. The only reason I knew names was because Ryan mentioned his name when another lady who ordered takeout asked. And I only knew Tiffany's since I asked Ryan. They don't seem to have name tags yet. But some above and beyond service my boyfriend and I experienced, some compensation of food items that was truly unexpected but they did it to make things right. Now for food review: * Chicken Satay 4.5/5 It's good. I won't really say it's spectacular, but it's worth to give it a try. The satay was lacking a bit in flavor, where we feel it should have been marinated just a bit longer. It's missing more of the authentic flavor. The Tumeric flavoring was there, but missing that fish sauce and mild sweetness. It just needs more umph. However, paired with their peanut sauce, it did give it a boost just a smidge. My original rating was a 4.2 but I did end up raising it because they compensated for two of our satays that were a bit on the burnt side. In all honesty we weren't going to complain at all, but this level of service just help elevate the overall score because acts of kindness like this make a difference. * Roti Canai 4/5 I'll be honest and say that I've had better. But this did satisfy my cravings after not having Roti Canai in a long time. However, it's one of the best I've had vs. others I've had in the Bay. If they could have had it a bit fluffier and lighter with and the curry sauce be a bit more dense and richer, it would have been an excellent pure 5/5. * Pad See Ew 3.7/5 I was so excited to have ordered this, but my expectations were too high. The beef was tender at least, and vegetables still holding its crunch. It's Just that it's more on the saltier side unfortunately, and missing that Wok Hei flavor, but I'm willing to give it another try in the future. * Green Iced Thai Tea 4.8/5 I loved it. Mine was a tad bit on the sweeter side, but this drink did help balance the saltiness of the Pad See Ew we had. It was so rich and delicious and this will be my go to drink every time I'm back. * Larb Chicken 5/5 My Goodness. This was soooo freaking yummy! It was both of my BF's and my first time trying it. Funny enough he chose the flavor and thankful he did since he's heard some good things about it. The flavor explodes with that great crunch! Omg. Not too salty, oily or heavy. Eating it along with fresh herbs, and onions gives it that good punch to your taste buds. My BF said it could be crunchier, but this is my review sooo... . All in all this was definitely one of our favorites and we look forward to trying your other fried chicken flavors too! More so looking into the Fish Sauce wings. * Green Curry with Beef 5/5 MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! My all time favorite! This was an OhEmGee moment for me as soon as I put the spoon to my mouth to taste the soup. Like a mic drop but in this case a spoon drop. I can't explain how amazing this was because I want you all, to whoever is reading this, to take the opportunity and actually try it. So rich, delicate, and paired with the white rice and the way the rice was cooked! To those that celebrate Easter, this gave me that Hallelujah vibe, for my taste buds have risen! This is going to be my new go to place for Thai, especially because it's so close to my home. It's in a pretty nondescript plaza and the restaurant isn't known for its ambiance or frills - they spend their energy on the important stuff, the FOOD! So if you're looking for a vibey restaurant to chill at, this isn't really it, but the service is friendly and the establishment is clean. There is no public restroom. Ok let's get to the food: The Tamarind Fish: an absolute must order. Crispy, hot, fresh, and bursting with flavors of chili and basil and tamarind. Crunchy on the inside with flaky hot white fish on the inside. Comes with an assortment of veggies stir fried in. It's expensive but worth it! Fish Sauce Wings: also a must. Crunchy and hot and juicy, these wings will make you smile from the savory crispy onion then close your eyes with happiness as soon as you get the hit of light fish sauce. These are giant and well sized wings! Pad Kee Mao: Basic noodle dish. Nothing too incredible but still delicious. Get it with pork or chicken because it enhances the flavor of the noodles. Chicken Stir Fry String Bean: crunchy and SPICY. We get this one at medium heat and it's spicy enough to render the entire meal spicy. The chicken is tender and oh so flavorful. Green Curry: rich coconut broth, stuffed with delectable veggies and huge pieces of eggplant and zucchini, this is sure to please any Thai food lover. I enjoy ordering this with tofu. The restaurant is in a popular strip mall that is easy to get to from 680 and offers a diverse offering of cuisine. As someone who cares for an elder parent with limited mobility, I appreciate that Red Chili is in a prime spot in front of accessible parking. Inside greeted with a calming green decor and variety of options to review menu. The place is intimate with primarily bar stool seating and one table with regular chairs. For me, this is a place that I would order to go and not dine-in. Kai was friendly, patient, and helpful. She busily took orders, delivered dishes to tables, and cleared up after guests left. The smell, portions, and presentations of dishes from those dining in reminded me of what an Asian uncle and auntie would prepare for me during a visit. While waiting for my TO GO order, I could see to the kitchen that an uncle and auntie were preparing the food. Since they prepared my food to order, it took 15-20 minute wait. I ordered the stir fry combo of green beans and mixed seafood with white rice & green salad, mango salad, tofu spring roll, a traditional thai tea, and intriguing green thai tea w/lime. You can personalize the spice level. Great packing and food traveled well. Shared meal with my elder dad, who exclaimed he enjoyed it and would like to eat from Red Chili again. *Ratio and variety of SEAFOOD w/GREEN BEANS STIR FRY were good. Hearty portions of white fish, shrimp, mussel, and calamari. I like when 2 of each are included so can equally divide into 2 meals. *MANGO SALAD was delicious to eat both with my eyes and mouth. Lots of textures and fresh crunchy ingredients. I suggest request dressing on the side or ask them to decrease the amount. I had to drain nearly a cup of the dressing, such a waste as it was the perfect balance of sweet and acid. *TOFU SPRING ROLL tightly rolled with generously packed with fresh ingredients. Doesn't make me miss the animal protein. *GREEN THAI ICED TEA W/LIME requires an acquired taste. It was good to explore, but not for me. read more

I looked for a dinner place with veg and non veg options close enough to Alum Rock area, and Yelp pointed me to Red Chili. I have to say: it's a find, a marvelous find. Amazing food!!! Not a fancy sit down restaurant but definitely a cosy functional place, clean. It's tucked away in a strip mall, so parking isn't an issue. They do close very, very early!! Service is good the table hose and the staff tape. The orders are lovely very friendly very cordial. All the items on the menu that we ordered, for dinner, were excellent and exactly made the way we wanted through the spice level we requested: 1. for appetizers we had Roti Canai and fresh rolls. 2. For the main course we had Thai fried rice, triple X hot vegetarian no egg. Garlic noodles and pumpkin, tofu, curry, mild hot. Pad See Ew vegetarian noodles! Everything was perfect! read more
