My original review for Red Dog was when we first moved here a few years ago. I need to update it based on my recent experience. We put our dogs up for Thanksgiving week and picked them up over the weekend. Immediately we noticed that something seemed off with our smaller dog (min pin). He was shaking and not acting himself. We took him home and he has been sick ever since, not being able to eat and having liquid diarrhea. Three full days of this. This dog is never sick. We took both our dogs there completely healthy and were to be boarded together and not take part in daycare (i.e not exposed to other dogs). The fact that he got sick means something occurred during his care. Was it sanitized? Was he exposed to other dogs (we noticed what looked like bit marks on his head)? All I know is I'm extremely disappointed after paying a premium price in this boarding business. Another thing that bothered me was that my other dog had a plastic collar so tight around her that it was a struggle to cut off with scissors. Based on my recent experience, my recommendation is to avoid! read more

Red Dog has always been a good fit for my dogs until this visit. While in general, my dog was well taken care of, I had left specific instructions that either weren't followed or only followed part of the time. My dog developed a medical condition and her veterinarian recommended feeding her and medicating her after 6 PM in the evening. She was also to be walked or taken out on a harness (supplied by me). These instructions were communicated to the front desk when I dropped her off for boarding and daycare. She was never fed later (usually fed around 5/5:30 PM) and there were times she wasn't taken out on her harness. Thank goodness for the cameras in some of the kennels I was able to note this. Because of my (the veterinarians) instructions not being followed, my dog has regressed some in her rehabilitation. I also noted that some of the daycare staff seem to be on their phones a good portion of the day. I will give Red Dog a chance again, but I'm a little wary. After all, you should be able to leave your pets and know they are being well taken care of. read more

So far so good! We needed to drop our dogs off at daycare to wear them out before our long car ride up north! Red Dog was the perfect choice! The staff was very welcoming and answered all of our questions prior to arriving. When we got there I felt prepared and not overwhelmed, even though my dogs were SO excited and just trying to run through the doors to play with the other dogs. The gentleman asked some clarifying questions about the dogs and what they enjoy or don't enjoy. I found this to ease my comfort in where I was leaving my dogs. It showed they wanted to give my pups personal attention even though I'm sure there were many other dogs at day care. The final touch, a report card for BOTH dogs at the end of the day. What was better is that they clearly took time with my dogs because the report was spot on to their behaviors and how we see them interact at home. I really loved receiving this so thank you Red Dog! Although we don't live in the Mason area we plan to use the Oakley facilities in the future and hope to have the same experience there! Had a bad experience first time using but decided to give them another try. To say I was upset with myself is an understatement. I had both of my pups boarded here. They weren't to be around other dogs. On their 5th day I arrived to pick them up. My little 8 lb pup acted extremely out of sorts upon pickup and was begging to run out to express his loose bowels. My lab literally could not breathe due to the extremely tight collar they put around her neck.....I felt like I was administering emergency services in their lobby removing it from her neck! How did they not know??? Our little 8 lb min pin was extremely sick for 2 weeks after his stay here. Our family was on pins and needles hoping he was going to make it. Friends of ours told us they had a dog flu outbreak but we were never told. Weird our lab was fine but only the little min pin was so sick. We called several times, left vms and even tried to make contact on social media (sent to the owner as well) but we were ignored. Never using this establishment again. Care is not their priority. Spend your hard earned money for quality and care elsewhere. Avoid this location at all costs! read more

I have been sending our bull dog to Red Dog for over a year. While I find the facilities very modern and clean, it is the people that make the difference. When a problem arose with our pup, the staff immediately contacted all the emergency contacts including ourselves; we were out of the country. While I am not watching the unit via webcam, I take for granted that the staff take care of the animals entrusted to them. Although I am not sure of the reason [meaning the root cause] for the emergency, the emergency was handled quite well. I am also glad to say, that the cost for the emergency was handled by the pet resort resulting in no additional costs to us. Only the emotional portion while far away from our family member. I have scheduled 2 more reservations at Red Dog this year and have changed his location in the facility. read more

The care is adequate for our last "inherited" diabetic cat that we have since the kids went to college. It's not the best but not he worst. I showed up Saturday at 8 am to drop off our cat who had been there many times before. The customer in front of us was denied boarding due to his dog needing shots. We stepped up and were denied boarding due to our cat needing shots. I found this unacceptable for several reasons; 1. When I called to make my reservation why wasn't I told about this issue? You were able to deny us in under 30 seconds when we arrived and we are regular customers. 2. Why would any business not take steps to increase business? You were 0-2 in customers the morning I was there and these problems could be easily fixed by a software change or by a procedure change where your employee checks the vaccination status when the reservation is made to alert the boarder of an issue. We are not dropping our pets there cause they need a vacation it is because we have plans and commitments ( planes, reservations, etc... ) and we don't need to hear about a problem that am that could have been solved if we had been alerted when we made the reservation. In our case luckily our vet was open Saturday and we called only to find our shots were in fact up to date and red dog had put on the wrong expiration date. I find it hard to believe that Red Dog would not do the easy fix to solve this issue as opposed to inconveniencing their customers and causing stressful check in situations aside from losing business! read more

They did a great job giving our dogs a haircut. Prompt reply to make an appointment online, were able to get us in within a week and on a Saturday, and we were able to bring both of our small dogs in and have them done in the same day. Dropped off at 9:30am and they were done by 1:00... That's a decent turn around when they don't have set appointment times like humans do. Their rates are reasonable and the same as other places. read more

I would not recommend this facility to my worst enemy! I took my dog to the Red Dog Pet Resort & Spa in Mason, OH to be boarded for 9 days while my family and I went on vacation. When I picked my 10 month old Goldendoodle up on July 15, he had matted feces all around his anal cavity. He immediately was put into the shower at home and while giving him a bath, I noticed a lump on his side. When I started to try to take care of the lump, it immediately started bleeding. My dog since then has had severe diarrhea, and vomiting. Today, July 17, was the earliest I could get him into the veterinarian. It was determined that he had a "hot spot" from where he had been left in matted feces for as long as he had been. It is evident that this was caused by the Red Dog employees who were supposed to be taking care of my dog while I was away. The building's modern look is very deceiving, I mean it got me! However, I would never take or recommend this facility to anyone. My dog will never go back, and I hope after reading this, none of you will take yours there either. read more

Put dog in Kennel 7/14. Given whole story about great job they would do. Been going there for years. Had camera n room due to last July lousy care. There 10 nights. Picked up on Sunday after 1:00. Watched her treatment 15 to 25 times a day from camera. From middle of night to all day.When watching only out of room one time I saw. Also saw girl feeding her sweet potato and rice. Severely depressed. Like she was in isolation...They say she was out of room??????? Again she only saw her once. I did see twice girl opening door about 5 to 6 inches. Sliding plate of food on plate into room Never....either time did she touch here or even act like she was alive.Monday Tuesday called up to 20 times a day. No answer at all for two days. One day no one showed up had over 100 dogs. Told them I was calling Humane Society. All of suddenly calling me every day. Took 15 to 20 calls aday to talk with someone . She has been going there for years. She has had 10,500 bladder surgery. She is in all RX food treats. Called three numbers all day long. When she was never getting out of bed. Watched since 7:00am Sunday morning.11:45 still no one there dark room.They are suppose to give them 24/7 care. No lights no potty pad change and no attention at all. Called around 12 when someone finally showed up.. Ell answered phone. Left me on hold 25 mins till I hung up. When we got there she said she was one that left me in hold for 25 mins. No I am sorry or anything. All we were doing is trying to tell someone we would be on time on pickup. Their whole recording is big story. No 24/7 person there with your pet . Even with no help still taking reservations......They should be happy. Ruined vacation due to stress of calling repeatedly. She was there for two weeks April. People with her all the time. Playing with her taking her outside. Two weeks felt safe not sick. Will tell my Vet what is going on and others. Brain tumour, other health problems, stress not helping me . 938.00 dollars for what?????Did they give her attention.....I was charged for it and live and care. Saw plenty in April...... So what I did not see them doing I believe happened......do not trust their care anymore.Mt husband beyond disgusted. Again left pets without care since no one answered phone for hours. Took our three little dogs for a long weekend. This was the first time leaving them. We wanted them to have a good time while we were away so we did get a room with a porch. They seem to be well staffed when we made our original visit to check them out and both when we dropped off and picked them up. The dogs all seemed to be very happy and well cared for. Scheduled an appointment 2 weeks in advance for a first time grooming of my Golden doodle. Sent shot record as requested. Showed up 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork as requested. They had no record of me having scheduled an appointment. They did receive the shot record but, absolutely nothing was entered into the system. We will not be returning. If I can't trust them to keep a scheduled appointment, I wouldn't trust them with my dog. What a huge inconvenience. read more

If you are expecting premium care for your pet-children keep looking. While the boarding arrangements and facility is modern the care is not. It is ran like a business and shoes no special affection for the animals they are caring for. I paid the extra for the webcam and glad I did. I had two dogs in one room and the anxious younger dog chewed up the dog beds I provided so they took them out of the room. I am ok with this action but was not happy to observe that they didn't supplement with one of their hammock beds or a blanket. This left my older dog with joint problems sleeping on the cold tile. No action was taken by the staff until I called. The webcam also allowed me to observe that during play all the attendants did was squirt misbehaving dogs. My dogs love people and kept trying to get people attention and received none. When I made contact with the manager her excuse was that they were really busy. When I played back that for me that communicates that they are not properly staffed for full capacity and is not what I expect from a facility the charges a premium price she had nothing to say. I ended the disappointing call by sharing that for the reasons observed plus not appropriately addressing concerns was cause for me to cancel the 10 days in July she still didn't get it. Nice facility, under skilled staff and poor management means I will not return and encourage others to evaluate many others facilities and to not settle for this place. I will be driving 60 miles to go to my old pet resort from before I relocated. read more

DO NOT GO TO RED DOG! I was a loyal customer for 5 years and have had an AWFUL experience with management over their "new prices". When I dropped Koda off I noticed the form was new and said something to the receptionist. She said "ya we changed our prices a few weeks ago." That's it. So I circled the boxes for shampoo and conditioner and thought it was dumb but okay, I'll pay for special shampoo. Problem was when I picked him up, they said it was going to be $200!!! Now Koda is a Great Pyrenees and he is big but $200?! Like I stated before I was a customer for 5 years and always paid $115 + a tip. But TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. They have lost their damn minds and to make matters worse, instead of being reasonable and working with me (I'm willing to pay the $142: 120 grooming plus 15 for shampoo and 7 for the conditioner) but then they came to the $200 conclusion bc of 'additional brushing'- my problem: he has had the same coat for 5 years and they have always taken ALL day to groom him and it wasn't $200 before?! Their new form is BS and needs to state the new pricing scale in FULL TRANSPARENCY.
