A simple service, but a wonderful one. Drive up to one of the two big shredding trucks, and a helpful person will dump your shredding into a big plastic bin. That bin gets pulled up inside the truck where your papers are shredded immediately. The location is convenient if you are in San Jose, in the middle of a small shopping center. This is the best deal for shredding anywhere other than using your home machine. Most places charge by the pound and a bankers box is typically $25 or $30 or more. Red Dog charges $12 per single bankers box, or $24 for a double bankers box. I own a good shredder, but at these prices, it didn't make sense for me to do it myself, as I estimate it would have taken at least 90 minutes to shred my two boxes. Other prices: $15 to shred a hard drive. Tapes and CD's: $25 per box. They also do E-waste recycling. Note: they don't take pre-shredded materials. read more

This was such an easy and convenient way to shred documents. You drive up (there are big trucks in the parking lot and then they also have a brick and mortar store). Someone will take the boxes from your car and dump them into the truck. They will give you a paper that shows how many boxes you had. You walk up to the store and pay. Easy! Excellent! Had 1 box of documents that needed to be shredded. Pulled into the driveway via the back alley off of Curtner, dumped my docs into a large bin, the man gave me a receipt, and then I walked around the building to the office and paid my 10 bucks via credit card. Done! The cost to shred at UPS is 89 cents per pound and their website wants you to make an appointment. My box of docs weighed more than 20 pounds. Red Dog Shred provided a more convenient service at a much cheaper price than UPS. read more

They have moved to a new location. They are now located in the Cambrian Park Plaza (strip mall with the Carousel signage - corner of Union/Camden). Access is so much easier. Still the same routine; drive up, unload your file box content into a giant bin wheeled over by super cheerful/helpful staff. Bin content gets dumped into a giant diesel powered shredder. Walk 10 paces to the cashier and pay. We have been using their services for over 15 yrs. Cannot beat the $ even with the price increase. Especially when you have box loads of old records to be destroyed. Simple math really, a continuously operated crosscut shredder is at least $1500; not to mention the time cost for staff or yourself to feed 25-30pgs at a time and emptying the shredded trash. That would be the equivalent of 150 file boxes at Red Dog in less than 10 min and no papercuts. read more

If you have a lot of items that need to be shred you can't beat Red Dog. They have a very good value deal with a banker's box. You fill it up to whatever it will hold and then you bring it in and for a flat rate they will shred it right in front of you. I had a quite a bit of items and they were so nice to me. He made sure that I witnessed him putting it into the machine and that it was shredded. Everyone there was very friendly and seemed to reallying want to help me. Another great thing about Red Dog its a drive-thru operation where you basically go through, stop the car, get out with your items and watch it get shred. Now this is being done due to covid because I've been there before and usually you park and then go inside the building. Super simple, you enter on the Curtner Ave side and just follow the signs till you hit the open dates/driveway. I was quite surprise that there was a line but it wasn't too bad. I say if you plan on coming here on a Saturday around 1-2pm, give yourself at least a 30 min window just in case. Basically a staff member will come by your car and signal you that it is your turn and they help you unload the paper! Also, they only accept manilla folders. (no color ones) The price is $8 per box. I pulled up with three boxes of paper to shred, and the person handling the shredding directed me into a parking spot, took my boxes, and began shredding immediately. I did not have to worry about my private information sitting around unprotected. I proceeded to a window to render payment, which was very reasonable, and was out in less than ten minutes.
