Formerly known as Surya Gallerie, Red Door Living has now moved to the corner. WOW! adorable retail space. They offer retail items in stunning visuals and full service Interior Design for those who wish for something more original. The store itself is very tidy, organized and easy to browse through. The staff was very helpful, and tailors to custom needs. I inquired about a particular drum I have been looking for, and they were quick to offer me many options via email. Prices range from low to high. You could buy a beautiful gift for well under $50 bucks. Styles range from traditional to contemporary. A great place to go when in need of custom drapery solutions, interior design expertise, inspiration, or maybe just a stellar wedding gift. We need more places like this in Long Beach! 5 stars for great retail space, and excellent customer service. read more

Last year I bought a charming 1923 Spanish bungalow that had much promise, but I could not quite figure out how to go about adding much needed kitchen cabinets without making the small space even smaller or create a plan for one of the bathrooms that needed a complete re-model in order to be a usable room. A friend recommended Dorian Bolick, the owner of Red Door Living, and although it's been a slow process it hasn't been a painful one. Dorian designed both the cabinets for the kitchen and the vanity for the bathroom with function, taste, and price in mind (I'm on a budget). He took care of everything. He has a roster of woodworkers, electricians, plumbers, and specialists who care about the quality of their work. Draperies, lighting, floor tile, custom cabinetry, counter tops, paint, plumbing - everything was brokered graciously by Dorian. The results are gorgeous and unique. Earlier this year in April we were searching for an interior designer to remodel our two 1948 Bathrooms and were referred to Red Door Living and to Dorian Bolick specifically. We met with Dorian at our home so he could get a feel for our design style and asked him to come up with something that kept with the style of the home but offered some modern masculine touches. Dorian quite quickly came up with a basic design and made the whole process for selecting textiles, furniture and concept for each bathroom so easy we were able to quickly make decisions and agreed on almost everything that was presented. Dorian was great on communication and alternative options as well as his design style his transparency and helpfulness were just pure pleasure. The total remodel from beginning to end was only 8 weeks and the bathrooms came out so much better than we anticipated. We are just finishing up our second major remodeling project with Dorian and would recommend his services to anyone. My wife and I met Dorian about 6 years ago (is it that long ago?!) when it was time to "redo" our house, and we've been with him ever since. Dorian has helped us with all three of our homes. The first home we did a pretty major remodel and he helped us with paint colors, flooring, tile, light fixtures, etc. When we had our little girl he helped design her nursery; three and a half years later it is almost exactly the same. He also helped with our living room and new furniture, paint, light fixtures for our second home. We recently moved to San Francisco and he helped tremendously with spacial planning of all of our furniture. This was a huge help as we downsized to half the size of living space. They have a decent amount of inventory and samples in house, but also have a number of vendors they work with if you are looking for something specific. Hands dow, Dorian Bolick is the designer to go to when you have an idea of how you want your home to look and feel but can't figure out how to make it materialize on your own. Dorian first worked with me about 10 years ago and when he came over for a consultation I had several paint samples attached to the wall. He listened to what I wanted and soon had a plan on how to convert my bedroom, kitchen, and bathrooms, to reflect the earthy, casual, but grown up style I wanted. And it was all done keeping in mind function as well.. Besides floating nightstands, he designed a bathroom cabinet with a pull out for laundry. In the kitchen, I opted for a granite countertop and was able to afford it because with only small modifications, I was able to stick with the kitchen cabinets I had. Eventually I left that place and moved into a one bedroom condo which has less than 700 feet. My bedroom is small but it's memorable because Dorian used a wallpaper over paint that creates that pops. He also came up with a solution to creating a dining niche and at the same time give me a den all in one "room ". A sofa was made in smaller dimensions by a furniture maker Dorain uses. All at reasonable rate for both his design work and furniture. I trusted him so much I let him pick the paint colors for the walls of my condo. Every time I come home I can't believe how well put together my place is. Plus being comfortable. And not a bit "trendy." Couldn't have done it without Dorians assistance. read more

My husband and I live in West Los Angeles. Dorian's store, Red Door Living, is in Long Beach. We were remodeling our condo on Catalina Island. And it worked -- Dorian was able to help us through the remodel via the use of emails, photo attachments, websites, store recommendations, phone conversations, and an occasional visit by me to his store in Long Beach. When it came time for the window treatments, Dorian made the trip to Catalina to take measurements, and he returned to oversee the installation of the shutters, curtains and shades. He gave us the confidence we needed to make decisions about cabinets, countertops, backsplashes, appliances, furniture, artwork and more. No question was too insignificant (do these placemats work?) or too difficult for Dorian to imagine (will this wall-bed fit on that wall and still leave room for curtains to open & close?). When we were having trouble getting the right shade of paint for the walls, Dorian personally went to the paint store and provided instructions for the correct mix. We were a few months into our project when we realized we needed the help of an interior designer. Our contractor on Catalina recommended Dorian, and we could not have been more pleased with the excellent help we received. Not only is Dorian a superb designer, but he is also readily available and always kind and considerate. Every time we walk in the front door of our condo, we feel like we're home.
