Amazing burger - friendly staff. Would highly recommend for brunch or lunch and can't wait to come back and try dinner!

Located on one of the main drags of Hudson NY, you enter from the street directly into a bar area. Don't. Give. Up. This place is so much more. Keep walking to find much more expansive seating and an outdoor area that will make your deck feel inferior. Because it is. This was my second visit here, and I'm impressed with their food. I had a very unassuming salad with grilled chicken on top. I'm not sure what seasoning they lavished on the chicken, but WOW. Really good. Very fresh greens as well and a very attentive server made this lunch stop exactly what it needed to be. Seriously, worth going to. read more

Reasonably priced with nice ambience, but food was just so-so. "Thai curry" was just steamed vegetables and rice. Crabcakes were mostly potato (?), bean quesadilla was decent. Beer was ok, but wine was priced a couple bucks too high. read more

I love Red Dot, have been bringing friends here since the 90's. Which is why I was so disappointed last night when I brought a hungry friend visiting from the City, only to be turned away. The Red Dot website clearly states it serves dinner till 10 pm. It says the same thing on the chalkboard at the entrance to the restaurant. So when we walked in at 9:11 pm, why did the same friendly waiter who served me and my friends on the weekend, now sitting with his back to me at the bar, announce "kitchen's closed?" The bar tender did the same - "kitchen's closed." She said it like it was the most natural thing in the world- why wouldn't the kitchen be closed at 9:11 pm even when Red Dot announces to the world it closes at 10? I thought for a moment: maybe there was a technical problem, maybe something was wrong with the stove. So I asked "Why is the kitchen closed?" The answer: "I don't know- the chef called it." So we drove 30 minutes to Hudson, hoping to have a delicious dinner at 9:11, only to be turned away. And the worst thing- no one said "sorry" or even intimated it. It was just our tough luck, and don't expect an apology or reasonable explanation. Maybe Red Dot should add an addendum to its website- "Open till 10, except when we don't feel like it." read more

Scrumptious, and obliging. We got ours take out for our 30th anniversary. They didn't want to send creme burlee home in a container because it would be messy but we said we didn't care because it tastes so good. The frites were good, and the steaks were very tender. The best anniversary dinner we ever had. We are fans of Red Dot now. read more

My husband and I just spent a great weekend in the Hudson Valley this past weekend. We went to Red Dot for afternoon drinks and ended up coming back for dinner because Alana, the owner, was great. Yes, she has a tough attitude, but it was all part of the fun. We're New Yorkers, we get it. If you don't, get a sense of humor. The food was yummy and the vibe was nice. What a delicious meal and awesome ambience! We sad out on the back patio and that is the spot to be. It's so pretty with pretty details that aren't "in your face". I could spend a day there taking pictures. The food. Yum, yum, yum! Both my boyfriend and I had their chicken breast au jus with potatoes and green beans. It was so delicious that we were tempted to lick the plate. The waitress encouraged us to do just that. We are only here for one night, but if we were to come back to Hudson again, I'd love to try another dish here. A must try! read more

Everything about Red Dot is wonderful. The atmosphere is low key and pleasant, the food is delicious. Particular kudos to our server, Chris. The best Bloody Mary in the universe

We ate at the Red Dot while visiting Hudson for a friend's wedding. Points to them for having a menu that could accommodate everyone, and enough seating for a party of 7 with no advance notice. We sat indoors, which was relatively empty on a Saturday night, but the outdoor patio was hoppin'. This is sort of a generic upscale gastro-pub place, which is fine, but not the best version of that concept I've seen. Their beer selection was limited, the prices were pretty steep ($12 cheeseburger? in a li'l town like this?), and no one seemed blown away by their food. They were out of one of the most interesting things on the menu (lamb kofta) and offered a $30 scallop entree as an alternative. I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered a quesadilla appetizer. This was plenty of food, only $7, and came with tasty guacamole and pico de gallo. If you're okay with ordering an app for dinner and sipping a few beers, this might be your best bet for maximizing quality:price. Our server was very helpful with questions about the food (portion sizes, ingredients), offered general directions for us out of towners, and took good care of us. A few of the other servers seemed cranky. read more

Four stars because of the garden and wonderful staff. Really three star food for our lunch today. On a nice fall day, the garden was a perfect lunch spot. We were seated promptly with a friendly smile and ordered off the carb-heavy limited breakfast/lunch menu. I got a Caesar salad with chicken. The lettuce was fresh. The chicken had clearly been frozen and was a bit chewy but nicely seasoned. The dressing, croutons, and Parmesan cheese were clearly from a Sysco bulk container. No fresh grated cheese or homemade croutons, which I sort of expected from the restaurant's nice vibe. My friend had the croque Monsieur. He said it was a bit soggy, and somewhat tasteless. Actually he said he thinks you can get a better one at Bennigan's, but that's the extreme opposite with all that artificial flavor. So not sure about that. We both agree the fries were top notch. Highly recommended if you want a nice, pleasant meal in a clean, trendy designed atmosphere with friendly staff with good menu variety, but don't mind that some of it may be a bit more packaged than expected. And don't forget to ask to sit in the garden! read more

Red Dot: what can I say but I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's the longest running restaurant in Hudson, it's old school with an excellently composed breakfast, lunch and dinner menu and everything on it is a winner. I love the bar: there is almost always a consort if locals engaged in delightful banter, and their cocktails are delicious and it was there that I discovered for the first time a cosmopolitan- they make the best! Cassandra is a delightful bartender and so fun to chat with. My favorite place to dine is at the bar with the infamous"red dot". I'll never forget the delicious pork shank my husband and I ate there which rivaled any that I had ever eaten in Italy where the dish is famous. I also love the front room for dining. It's cozy and eccentric and just delightful. The back room is beautiful but I feel it needs a little something to warm it up since it's pretty spacious and has very high ceilings, though the windows onto the back garden are stunning. Speaking of the back garden, i didn't know It was there until I had been to the Red Dot many times. It's fabulous and makes me feel like I'm in an exotic country courtyard in France. My favorite dishes: the pork shank, the fried calamari, the thai beef salad, all their salads, the eggs Benedict, the smoked salmon plate, the mussels and fried, and the chicken pot pie. Fun place and very accommodating. I came in from Boston with GF and dog, and suddenly found Hudson had little for pet-friendly atmospheres. The owner hooked us up with seating on their back patio. The mussels and frites were great. Cocktails were good too. read more

We came here on a recommendation of a friend who lives in Hudson (she came with us). This place has a great atmosphere and fun decor. They also have an outside eating area that looked like a nice place to eat. We opted for the inside to avoid the heat. I split the calamari appetizer with a friend and the Hudson resident ordered the corn chowder. She was disappointed by the chowder (as was I). It was watery with the consistency of milk; chowder is normally heavier. I ordered the burger as my main meal as I was in a "burger and beer" mood. To be honest, it was just okay, nothing special. Overall, I was happy with my experience here. This is the breakdown of my rating: 1. Atmosphere - 5 stars 2. Service - 4 stars 3. Food - 3 stars 4. My wife and I were looking for a place to hold the reception for our wedding and we stumbled upon the Red Dot. We really loved the vibe of the place with great art up on the walls and a really cool atmosphere. We had a great conversation with Alana and felt super comfortable that this was the place for us. We had the wedding and the reception last weekend and couldn't have imagined a better time! The restaurant had new and great art work on the walls, it's usual cool charm and it was even nice enough to open up the back patio which was beautiful. We had a buffet style brunch and although I personally did not get to try all the food everything I did have was great and I heard from everyone else that the food was fantastic. Alana was very helpful and accommodating on the day of the wedding. Her and her entire staff were really great for the duration of the reception. We felt so welcome and at home there. My wife and I look forward to coming back to the Red Dot when we visit Hudson and trying more of the food and catching up with Alana. read more

I went here last night with some friends who lived in Hudson. What a great neighborhood joint this is! It has a wonderfully friendly atmosphere that sort of makes everyone feel at home even if you're not a local. They have one of the nicest staffs I've ever encountered. It's smallish but cozy. I had the mussels frites and it was absolutely delicious. My P.E.I. mussels were in a delicate broth that was tasty without overpowering the natural flavors of the shellfish. The fries were handcut and served in a paper cone, Belgian-style. They were some of the best fries I've ever had, as they weren't as greasy or salty like most fries. They almost felt, well, refined. I also sampled my friend's Thai beef salad, which was incredible. The wine list was a little lacking, with only five reds on it (all of them low-budget.) However, that included one of my favorite cheap red table wines, South Africa's Goats du Roam. (I swear I'm not just a sucker for puns!) read more

OMG. THE CHICKEN POT PIE. I'm going to continue to crave this until I can get back upstate again. It was warm and comforting, with almost a marsala tasting sauce. The crust was only on top, but tasted flaky and gooey and SO GOOD. The fact that it was freezing outside may have affected my opinion of this steamy, creamy dish... but I don't think so. I ate there 3 times in the 7 days I stayed up state this last week. I wish I could remember out servers name we had in the garden twice. She had longer brown hair; she was spectacular and treated us like locals. I got fish & chips, cleaned the plate. Went for brunch and got a classic two egg breakfast, exactly what it said it was. Went for dinner the same night and had the lobster rolls. Delicious. Took the recommendation of many sites saying not to miss eating here while in Hudson, I'm glad I listened. Beautiful outdoor eating area that wisks you away to a secret, delicious garden. Menu has something for everyone. I enjoyed the tuna seaweed salad and couldn't stop shoving massive bites into my mouth! Perfect flavor w thin slices of ginger and a perfect mix of greens and seaweed. My husband I were in Hudson, NY for the weekend - since he was up there for a work retreat. Earlier in the week, he ate at Red Dot with his team and raved about the hummus and how it was one of the best he has ever had. So, we went in and OMG - the seafood risotto was the most amazing risotto we have EVER had. The server Chris was right. It was full of seafood, not heavy on the risotto and the sauce was perfect. We then ordered the homemade chocolate pudding and we were shocked by the texture and the taste - it wasn't too gelatinous and it was amazing. The service was excellent.... It is one of those meals that we will remember for a long time.... I would suggest dinner over breakfast/brunch - the menu is much more unique and varied at dinnertime. I'm sure the breakfast/brunch is delicious - but the options are not that unique. You MUST go here. read more

In two words: pot pie. The pot pie here is truly a treat the only thing is there seems to be a limited amount each night so you gotta order early. However there are many other gems on the menu that are worth trying such as the fish and chips, burger, vegetable curry, and the roasted chicken. I would recommend reservations for the back dining room which is separate from the bar area. The service is usually pretty good and they have a very nice outdoor area in the back where you can occasionally catch a warm fire. read more

Nice little restaurant on Warren Street. Great food, cocktails and atmosphere. Our one complaint (and some may think this is a positive) is the barteneder (owner?) continously singing to the playlist - loudly and often directly to the customers sitting at the bar. Loved the playlist - would have loved to sit and listen to the songs, but could not hear anything over the bartender singing. She has a lovely voice, but found it very annoying, to be frank. read more

Fantabulous! Great great great brunch! My Croque Monsieur was the best I have ever had and I've had Daniel Boulard's yummy version. Hubby had a very pleasing brioche French Toast with slightly too crispy bacon. Orange juice was so fresh it tasted like farm fresh oranges. Coffee was cold but we did walk in at 5 mins to end of brunch service and a new pot was brought out later. We actually felt bad when we stuck our heads in after striking out at the closed French bakery our friends recommended. 5 mins to closing I should know better (rude industry move but we were starved) but they were totally welcoming and very kind about telling us the kitchen was closing in presently so we should be quick with our decisions. Friendly staff, great vibe and decor. Oh and the prices are incredibly reasonable! Alana (damn I hope I spelled that right) the owner, proprietor and our bartender keeps her prices reasonable from a remembrance of a simpler time in Hudson before 2 ounces of Chickpea and celery root salad cost $4.99 at the gourmet so and so. Alana is pure entertainment and you can tell it's a place where you can feel like a regular the moment you walk in the door. We eat out every time we're in Hudson and we plan to make it a regular stop! read more

I came to rave about their meatloaf special! Hands down the BEST meatloaf I had in my life. I would be back to eat the meatloaf any day if it were a regular menu. The big complaint I have is with service . I walked in with my family and the place is full . I tried to ask a simple question "is there a wait list we can get on?" - you'd be surprised how difficult it was to get an answer . One waitress for the entire place who just rolled her eyes and avoided us for about 20 minutes. The bartender wasn't a lot of help either. So we left - a little dumbfounded. Here's a tip : if you're only nice to arriving customers when you have tables and treat them like garbage when you're full and don't need them - you may find yourself empty sooner than you think . read more
