Had another fabulous Sunday brunch at the Dot with friends today. We ordered a range of foods -- bleu cheese burger, fish and chips, and eggs benedict with smoked salmon on top of hand made potato latkes -- and everything was perfection! But then it always is! The drinks were good also, and very generous. It was a little warm today, so we elected to eat indoors instead of in the beautiful garden area. The service was great and the atmosphere warm and friendly. All in all, my absolute favorite restaurant in Hudson. Give it a try the next time you're in town! read more

Best burger in Hudson. So much fun on a Friday night especially out on the back patio.

This place is great- if you have the right server on the right night (for that server). When the servers like you (that night) things will go well for you; and if they don't prepare to be ignored and wait forever. For the most part the kitchen sends out reliably tasty pub fare (the burger and the fish & chips usually won't do you wrong). I think some (most) of their specials scream of a bored chef who's trying to do anything different than their standard fare- sometimes with success...but always hit or miss (usually miss). You can't beat their back garden. It feels like a secret you don't want to share. read more

Had brunch during a quick weekend getaway. Had the latkes, which were crispy and divine! Boyfriend had the croque madame and he only let me have one bite! So good! Their coffee was really good, it's such a small detail but so many places overlook the quality of their coffee. My one regret was the bloody mary, not because they were bad! But because we realized after the fact there was a "special" bloody mary, probably only available during the season that we would have wanted to try! read more

My Husband and I dropped into this place on a Friday night for a drink and it was full of territorial locals who were unfriendly and unwilling to allow us access to the bar to order a drink. The next morning we were starving and as it was around the corner from our hotel we tried it out. The food and service was absolutely stellar I had the croque moisiur and had the burger we couldn't decide was better. The fries where had cut to perfection! Don't underestimate the this place! Drove to Hudson for a beautiful Sunday afternoon adventure. We found Red Dot via Yelp and took a chance. We were seated in the garden which was very nice. Vine covered walls, water fountain, bistro tables, nicely landscaped. Greeted immediately by server for our drink order. She and the owner were very attentive as we perused the menu, which included lots of brunch specialties along with the full lunch menu. Tough choosing but we decided on a Red Dot burger for my wife and I had eggs with grilled salmon and a mushroom-something hash. Both were fresh, perfectly cooked and delicious. Nice selection of beers and wine along with a full bar. Overall a great experience and we hope to return soon. Highly recommended. read more

Came in for brunch had eggs benny on latke. The hollandaise was well made with a nice taste of lemon and my egg was poached perfectly. The ambiance is great. I definitely will come back to enjoy their outside garden. Come here and enjoy! read more

Cocktails are great but more importantly -Alana the owner is so real so inviting and so entertaining

We stopped here for brunch on a Sunday and were seated right away on the patio. We ordered a house salad to share, two of us got the omelette, and one of us got the smoked salmon Eggs Benedict. Everything was fantastic. The eggs were perfect and fluffy, the potatoes were well done with skins on (just how we like them), the greens and tomatoes all tasted super fresh. Servers were all efficient and friendly, and the patio setting was so lovely-- fountains, flowers, and cheerful bright yellow tables and chairs. The next time we are in Hudson we will certainly be coming back! read more

There must be a preamble to this review. It was my first time eating at the Red Dot so my experience may be atypical. I reserve the right to amend it after subsequent visits. Once again I must cross swords with my girlfriend. Maybe I'm cursed. She seems to have a wonderful experience with a lot of places on her own but when I am with her there is always a worm in the apple. Or maybe she is a touch lavish in her praise...no, I must be cursed. Since the mussels at Le Canard were so good and we found ourselves close to Hudson visiting relatives we were forced on to the Red Dot for their much touted "Mussels Frites". Jess explained it this way: You get a giant steaming pot of mussels and a cone of fries that you can use to soak up the sauce. Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Hold on: If the sauce tastes better than malt vinegar, it would make sense to sop it up with the fries (which were pretty good on there own) but in this case it didn't. It was just a little white wine and water with some sliced shallots and garlic. No detectable seasoning at all. I realize this is turning into a pose-down between Canard and Red Dot but bear with me. At Canard I was forced to ask for bread because the sauce was so good I needed every last drop. At Red Dot I had a starch at the ready but nothing worth sopping up. If these two chefs ever compared notes they might just achieve the perfection of this dish. That being said the PEIs at Red Dot were of a slightly higher quality but were lacking in flavor. Red Dot wins the plating battle. A nice big rustic looking metal pot whose lid serves as bin for shells. Red Dot was also a little cheaper. In other (non-shellfish related) news I also had the meatball gratin that was a weekly special. Wow. Served in a small gratin dish, smothered with what was probably a decent Gruyere with four toast points and some (I think) creme fraise on the side. Without a doubt one of the best brown gravies I have ever tasted. An impressive appetizer that could really be an entree with a few more elements added. Our waitress was surly. Now the really bad part and forgive me if I am wrong about this but it is the first time I have encountered this problem. Jess and I often find amicable ways of splitting the cost for things so as not to upset the balance of reciprocity. Sometimes I pay for dinner plus tip since I may owe her for something that she payed for last week or vice-versa. Sometimes she gets dinner but dinner plus tip would be too much so I tip in cash while she pays for the check with her card. Well this time she put dinner on her card and I payed the tip in cash. Today she checks her account online and finds that she was charged more than the total our meal came to. She calls up and the manager told her that their card processing company automatically deducts an 18% gratuity from a card used to pay for dinner and that they have to close out their card swiper (???) before the 18% is either canceled out of the charge or credited back to her account or something. I must add that we were a party of two and didn't see anything on the menu to prepare us for this. It's not quite clear how it works but the manager also mentioned that a lot of people get confused by it and call up to complain. Which begs the question: Why do it at all then? -.5* for making me scrunch my eyebrows. And -.5* to Yelp for not allowing us to use 1/2 stars in our ratings. How much more would it cost you? read more

I have lived in this area for the past three years and I am very familiar with most of the restaurants in Hudson and the surrounding area. All I can say is avoid this place like the plague. I truly had one of the worst meals I have ever eaten - although what they served frankly could not be eaten. I ordered fish and chips. It had obviously been frozen and then heated. It was so poorly cooked or rebooked that I could not even cut the fish with a knife, no less eat it. Frankly, trying to get down a fork full of the leathery undercook mess made me want to gag. The wait staff could frankly care less that what came out of the kitchen was completely ineatible. It took me five minutes to get just their attention. no apologies. Any chef who you want to serve you food would never serve such slop. And again, the waiter and manager could have cared less. So avoid this place unless maybe the end of the world is near and this is truly the last place on earth. Even then I would think twice. Why would you even consider this dive when you could go to such great restaurants like Swoon, Daba, Ca'mea, grazin, Fish and Game, Baba Louie, Local 111. Even the food trucks are better. read more

We were recommended this restaurant by the wine store a few doors down. We wanted somewhere we could take our small dog and they allow dogs in their garden. The garden is beautiful and very big with a lovely little waterfall. We had a fantastic waitress called Vickie who was extremely attentive, friendly and efficient. It was ok. Wait stuff was discombobulated and dressed horribly. I dont want to eat food served to me by a woman in booty shorts (unless its Hooters), one with messy hair in her face and the other with thigh high boots. The waitresses needed a bit of a jolt; they seemed unhappy and stressed even though the place was not packed by NYC standards. A little order and sophistication is always welcome. The food was OK. I mean I wasn't expecting world-class fare, but chewy and oily calamari I did not want either. Not sure if you are okay with a hairy dog sitting near you while you eat INDOORS, but I am not. i can't even explain the obnoxious service we had at the Red Dot. I manage a restaurant and I would never allow any of my servers to NOT communicate with their guest or simply have suggestions for them.....nnoooo why would you do that (insert sarcasm).. The bus boy was extremely attentive, and obviously disabled, and very very sweet. He had more sense of respect than the women there.He actually refilled our glasses, and offered us dessert AND RAN our credit card. The waitress seemed too busy to be bothered, and walked by my empty glass quite a few times, and never checked in to see if the food was up to satisfaction. It was not. She had an english accent so maybe that is what they do in England, maybe that is the way they treat their diners there. Don't know, I have never been there. Good bye red dot, and good luck, you are not in NYC...... keep what customers you have and get what you can in HUDSON... read more

We went to the red dot and were forced to sit inside. It had been raining and cleared up, but nobody would wipe down a table for us. We should have known this place would be a bust based on how they spoke to us on the phone, but we gave it a shot anyways. Since we had to be inside, we asked to be seated away from people and were placed in a dark corner beside the service station. Still, we tried to give it a shot and ordered some drinks. Our server left our table in the middle of taking our drink order and it took a solid 10 mins to get drinks. I have worked in restaurants my whole life and so has my partner- we are always understanding and kind when a place is busy. After a few minutes, we decided to pay for the drinks and go elsewhere for several reasons. This is when the manager Alana came up to our table without a mask, very close and told us we had broken the law by not ordering food- which nobody had mentioned when we walked in. She continued to berate and interrogate us for another 5 minutes while we waited for the bill and tried to bully us into staying. They're lucky we didn't cause a scene and refuse to pay the bill because that is genuinely how rude she was. Not sure if they were understaffed or if Ms Alana owns the place, but you shouldn't speak to paying customers that way. She had an attitude reminiscent of a 16 year old girl who's parents told her she can't use the car. Would not recommend. read more

The restaurant was frigid and very dark. The food was mediocre. Server very friendly and at first I thought it was really nice that a dog was laying under our table. However it really bothered me when our server openly fed the dog our leftover french fries. It seems like a very mom and pop kind of place, the food was good but the service and demeanor of the staff was subpar. read more

After hearing a lot about this place I figured my family and I should go check it out. I was not impressed. First, the food was not of good quality, the mussels were watery and we had to practically beg to get some bread. There were not a lot of vegetarian friendly dishes. After, since we were a large party, the gratuity was added. The server didn't indicate that this was the case, but when I pointed out that she'd charged me too little when we divided the bill (no tip for her) she was flat out rude and did not care. In all honesty, I wanted to retract my tip. Completely dissatisfied and won't be going back again- the service was awful. read more

Easy 5 star review. Warm welcome and wonderful service even though the kitchen was closing for a mid day break. Ordered simply - a smoked salmon plate and a salmon BLT - but the quality and presentation was perfect. We will definitely go back to try more of their offerings in this charming place. read more

Cozy a lil' spot. Dropped in after an all-day BBQ for drinks and brought all the BBQers with us. The first room (bar room) is very slim + vertical, so needless to say the place was packed. I've been to Red Dot several times over the past year or so. It's a great place to park up at the bar and have a few drinks. +1 for a hefty bourbon pour, always appreciated. The food is pretty good and there's usually a good crowd. Two beers on tap, if I remember correctly. The burger was very good. read more

I love the Dot. The back garden is a gem in the summer. Alana and staff are great and the calamari will rock your world! Don't miss the fish and chips either. And have a Caesar salad with shrimp (huge; juicy deliciousness). Yumm. read more
