Really liked this place! Came up from San Diego to eat dinner in Dana point. Passed this along the way and both of us decided to stop back in on our way back. The atmosphere was awesome! We are in town visiting family frequently & hope to be locals soon! We came to the Red Fox Lounge after a terrible day in Laguna & immediatly felt at home. The crowd was mixed in age, but in a pleasant way. Some older folks, who were plenty of fun... And several people our own age (mid-20's) The bartender was SUPER friendly & informative about the town. Everyone played great music on the juke box, and the drinks were priced reasonably. I hate to call this place a dive, but considering the lack of pretentiousness, that's how I'd classify it. Definetely down to earth, and exactly what you'd expect from a beach town. This place made us feel at home, we love the Red Fox Lounge & the people we've met here... We have fallen in love with San Clemente, and can't wait to move here. read more

I am a frequent customer here and I love it. Literally one of my favorite bars. Cookie, Brett, and Theresa are the best bartenders. Strongest drinks which makes them known for their heavy pour. They also have a good handle on the control in this place. The smoking section is a giant perk. read more

Service is a little slow, but everything else is amazing and great prices. If its a Friday or Sat this is the place to be.

Who doesn't love the fox? Cool dive atmosphere. Epic and amazing personality in the bar tenters. There is a large smoking patio, you can drink on! Super chill dive bar with very stiff drinks. They have a digital jukebox and an outside patio that feels likes its inside for smoking. bartenders are friendly and the prices are on the cheaper end. If you want to hang with the locals and drink this is the spot. read more

Oh Red Fox I do love you. The best "dive" bar in town - drinks are good and strong, outdoor patio, always a great place if you are feeling social to go out and strike up a conversation with a group of people. Good tunes in the juke and all kinds of different people ive met here from snobbies to local yokals, drunk old farts at 9 am (dude, you can get an epic breakfast from next door @ Antoines you dont think id be drinkin at 9 am do ya??) I've grown up in San Clemente and recently Went to have a nice night out with friends and when leaving realized I had left an article of clothing inside. When trying to retrieve it noticed the door was SHUT AND LOCKED at 1:00pm.. Knocked repeatedly and a man with a wanna be tombstone mustache opened and was very rude and said "too bad" when asking to retrieve it. Eventually he said he would grab it. I waited patiently at the door but never received it. Went to the back door and the man said "I can't let u in" explained the situation and finally received it after asking 3 STAFF members. Bar tenders here are friendly however the security or other staff was VERY RUDE AND CONFRONTATIONAL and not helpful. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! read more

I haven't been to the Red Fox since 1993. But based on the OTHER reviews I'm really happy to know that it doesn't seem to have changed all that much since Carol and crew were working the bar. My favorite bar in San Clemente. Easy-going crowd, good drinks, and good staff. The bartenders are great, particularly Brent, who remembers faces and greets you with a handshake. Not to mention he consistently makes good drinks and has extensive knowledge behind the bar and can make you any drink the right way. Teresa is also a great bartender. What a charming little bar. The owner was there on Saturday night greeting people at the door when they came and left. The cash only policy seems to scare off the dumb 21 year olds to stay down the street at Ole's. No beers on tap because fuck you. I like it. A little expensive for a dive bar though - $8 for a Crown and Coke - but I'll definitely be back. Red Fox is the only bar I've enjoyed drinking at in San Clemente since I moved here. read more

Talk about character! Not only are the drinks large and plentiful, but priced right as well! The bar is just the way a dive bar should be, a bit dark but enough atmosphere to keep you entertained. Really enjoyed my trip to the Red Fox and I'm defnitely going back. read more
