There are far better Asian restaurants in the Melbourne area. I have been to red ginger twice and will not go back. The food did not live up to the beautiful contemporary Asian decor at the mall location. The white prawn were tough and chewy and left me wondering what I was eating. The salmon teriyaki was floating in so much sauce that you couldn't taste the salmon. I suggest they cut back on their huge menu and concentrate on doing fewer dishes well. read more

HI folks, Just have to share our experience at Red Ginger (Suntree). Our group of 8 "foodies" went last Friday, and we had asked for one of the private rooms and had asked Jimmy (Grace's husband) to make us a special feast. And special it was. Red Ginger has a new chef, and he is incredible. He created a feast for us of about 6 appetizers and 6 entrees to share, with a soup course and dessert afterwards. Included fish, chicken, duck, vegetable dishes, pork, and more. The flavors are probably stronger than what would be on their usual menu, and absolutely wonderful. Grace came in to greet us, and they introduced us to the chef, who doesn't speak much English, but I think he understood the round of applause we gave him. Honestly speaking, red ginger is the best authentic Chinese restaurant in Melbourne and Orlando area based on my experience. I have lived in Orlando for over seven years. I'm from the Sichuan region, they have the chef from the same region and make the authentic style of dishes. Amy served us today and recommended very delicious food. This Place is absolutely stunning. The decor is modern Asian, and really pleasant to the eye. The food.. You want fresh food? Great! Nothing comes from a can. No baby corns.. no water chestnuts. Instead, you get fresh ingredients like string beans, Bok choy, Fresh Carrots, Jicama, and Snow Peas. Feeling adventurous? Ask for their "traditional" Chinese menu. Americans typically like our food fried and more sweet than spicy. I have to say, My absolute favorite dish on the entire menu is the Pan Seared Orange Beef. Why? Because I like the fact that it's pan-seared and not fried. The vegetables are FRESH, the sauce is right on target, and the spice is on POINT! I would recommend this dish all day long. SOOO GOOD! My second favorite would be the Ponzu Grouper. A generous portion of Grouper inside a traditional Chinese "hot pot" with Asparagus, Broccoli and Mushrooms with the homemade Ponzu Sauce? Um... YES! As picky about food as I am, you all KNOW this stuff has GOT TO BE TOP NOTCH! In the mood for Sushi? Want something low carb? The House Special Roll has no rice. It's wrapped in Cucumber. Sushi here is like art.. you just have to order your favorite roll to see what I mean. On the Traditional Chinese menu, you get a good look inside Chinese culture and their food. It might just surprise you! I recommend the Cucumber soup. I know It sounds different, and I promise you that indeed it is, but give it a try if you like cucumber and this will surely be your new favorite soup. Speaking of soups.. the wantons in the wanton soup are MADE IN HOUSE! Definitely NOT frozen. Lunch portions are enough to satisfy and I promise you will not leave hungry. The bar is beautiful and if you haven't had a Lychee Martini, you are seriously missing out! I've been to other places where the sushi falls apart, the drinks fall short, the service is out of control, and the managers are "busy" and can't deal with the customers. NOT HERE! The BEST thing about Red Ginger other than the food, is the service! The owners are always around, manager always on duty, and they want you to have the type of dining experience you expect. This is the fist Asian restaurant I have actually liked since I moved to Melbourne. Ive tried a handful of other places and they all lacked flavor. Some of my friends joke that because I eat so many different types of asian foods (noodles are my guilty pleasure) I may have become a bit of a snob. I have visited here twice now and have tried: -Miso Soup - Chicken lo mein -Chicken fried rice -Spicy Tuna Roll The Lo mein was delicious and flavorful, something other restaurants in the area are lacking. The Spicy tuna was fresh, mixed with delicious spicy sauce and the gave me an extra side of spicy mayo for free. Also the serving sizes are large, I ordered a small fried rice and small lo mein and it was more than enough for dinner and leftovers! The main reason I gave it 4/5 and not 5/5 was because the staff wasn't very knowledgable about the sushi, they couldn't tell me what was in the Spicy Tuna roll (Turns out spicy tuna + Avocado and sesame seeds). I have been a customer since 2012 when I moved here. But in the last 12 months or so Red Ginger service has been spotty and today I finally had to say something. The last 3 orders either had an item missing or something else in place of what I asked for. It's sad that you have to check your order there. Otherwise get all the way home and find out it's wrong. Time to find a replacement for Chinese food. Too bad because the food is good. I had to bring an item back that I did not order and the guy I dealt with got mad that I demanded a refund for a 16.95 pork dish that was not asked for. Big communication gap with them. I'd like to break this down a little better, if you don't mind -- I've been here twice now. Once for Chinese food and once for sushi. Chinese: solid 4 stars, maybe pushing 5. This isn't the standard take-out Chinese food that you get at every China Jade Garden Palace Panda Wok in the country. It's unique, and extremely flavorful. I had the General Tso's for lunch, and it was reasonably priced and delicious. I'll definitely return to try more. Sushi: 3 stars. My second lunch didn't go so well. I ordered the chirashi lunch bowl (at a very reasonable price for chirashi). It was average at best, and of all of the chirashi I've had in the past, this was the first time I've ever found a component piece so offensive tasting that I left it in the bowl. That said, with the exception of that unidentified piece of awful-tasting fish in the chirashi, I did finish it. The miso soup was set aside after only a couple of spoonfuls, I didn't enjoy it at all. I'd be willing to try the maki, but honestly I'll probably concentrate on the Chinese food from here on out, since I'm reasonably certain I'll have better luck with that part of the menu. read more

A bit below average. Ate lunch there a few days ago. The egg roll was dry. I was non-plussed by the many offerings containing "spicy" sauce. I ordered the chicken and eggplant. These offerings were not marked "hot" yet the "spicy" sauce was quite noticeable. There is no reason to make ordinary dishes with a "spicy" sauce. They're either hot or not. I removed quite a stack of little red peppers (as my table mates gaped!). The chicken and eggplant (with mushrooms) were tasty. My mouth can "take" some tang, but theirs was too much. Very disappointed! We ordered the boneless ribs. It looked like someone's leftover. The container wasn't even 1/2 filled. They were flavorless and tough. Garlic honey chicken was mostly batter and the chicken was like mush. The lo mein was ok but the mixed vegetables was 95% broccoli with a few carrots and water chestnuts. Oooooh! So deee-licious! Went there for the first time last night but I've heard about it for a long time. It was so good. The little fried noodles that you start with were kinda blah. It seemed they were either old or baked to non-perfection. They were unnecessary, but we like free stuff so we picked at them, dipping them in the duck sauce to make them taste better. We started with the Seaweed Salad (the dressing...so good!) and the Caramelized Macadamia Shrimp, that was so good I could've crawled into a ball in the corner and cried. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the little pieces of nut adhered to the shrimp with this sweet, white sauce. Good god. I think I blacked out while eating it. The presentation of each dish was really impressive. The shrimp sat on a bed of lettuce (which seemed silly and unnecessary, however the lettuce caught some of the sauce and you can bet I ate every piece of that shredded iceberg lettuce!), the seaweed salad looked lovely. The glasses for drinks are fancy goblet-style, which are kinda silly because the waiter had to keep coming back to refill our waters and tea. Why not just get regular size glasses? I like my water. I got the Fuji Beef. And seriously, it was probably one of the finest things I have ever eaten. The sauce, oh the sauce! It was a brown, Fuji apple reduction and the beef was so tender. I was a little afraid of the beef because often-times the beef at a Chinese restaurant is a little tough. We even asked the waiter if the beef was tender and he assured us it was. And he wasn't lying. It was fork tender and when you cut it all up, put the white rice with it, mix everything together, you get this goulash of deliciousness. My companions got the Pine Nut Chicken (which has the same white sauce as the shrimp app did!), the Little Kisses and Rainbow sushi rolls. Everything was incredible. The chicken was missing some pine nuts, they really seemed to skimp on that (which is strange because the shrimp were coated with macadamia nuts), but it was cooked perfectly. The Rainbow Roll had an almost banana taste to it, which gave it an interesting perspective. The Little Kisses roll was broiled so it came out hot with the cream cheese bubbling on the top. They went crazy for that and I tried it, but I'm not a salmon fan at all, so it was wasted on me. The only bad think about the Little Kisses Roll was that it was tiny, like the smallest roll I've ever seen! But we all shared everything and even had leftovers to enjoy this morning. Yay! One really cool thing was at the end of the night (because we enjoy our food and like to make our dining experience last, so we were the last people to leave), we watched all the waitstaff and sushi chefs and kitchen staff and chefs come out and eat loads of food family-style. Had lunch with a friend and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The restaurant has a lovely ambience. We were greeted immediately and our drink orders were taken. My husband and I ordered the Sweet & Sour Shrimp and the Lamb in Ginger Scallion Sauce. Let me just say, the white rice that came with both of our orders was fantastic. Most rice we've gotten from Chinese food delivery places is completely dry and just doesn't taste good at all. Ours was moist and delicious. While the prices were kind of high, but it is the best Chinese food we have gotten since moving here a year ago. The delivery was fast, the food was hot, completely worth it! Ok, I've been twice now. Waitress' name was Cody this time. She was awesome, just like Laura was. The staff is top notch. I went for lunch. I had the Unodon (grilled eel over sushi rice), and my Adventure Partner had the Chiroshi (raw fish over sushi rice.) It was so freaking good I still dream about it. DON'T GO THERE. The food was fine at this restaurant, but they over charged my credit card by $50. When I brought it to their attention they apologized and said that they were trying to reverse the charge but to check my credit card statement. I did, and the charge was still there. I called the manager who was there at the time of the overcharge and he said that he contacted the credit card company and was told that I was the one who needed to call them and reverse the charge. When I called the bank they said they hadn't been contacted so together we called the restaurant to resolve the overcharge. The restaurant hung up on our calls 3 times. The bank explained to me that this was a classic ploy that some retailers/restaurants use to rip off unsuspecting customers. DONT GO THERE! read more
