Beautiful space with friendly employees but the baked goods were just OK. Would not recommend if you are looking for the best bakery but certainly if you need a coffee and some bread and you're in the area, Red Hen is fine.

Bright, spacious cafe with a solid sausage-egg breakfast sandwich and a super-sweet maple latte. Love the buzz and business of the place, with people all of ages working and meeting and laughing inside. Situated in the heart of the capital.

Came here on Easter and I was SO glad it was open! Found this on our drive home from Stowe and was a great stop! Parking was easy and inside has a decent amount of seating. It is full of pastries and bread, it smells great! Ordered a variety of things and it was hard to choose because everything looks so good. I ordered a chocolate almond croissant, a kouign amann, and a daily focaccia with pesto. They were all delicious. I then ordered a French Onion Toastie and was so crunchy and tasted exactly like a french onion soup! It took about 10 minutes to come out. It was unique and bread was so crunchy and perfect. I thought prices were very fair and would definitely love to come back to this bakery!

Really nice little bakery with a great selection of pastries and bread. We ordered ahead and stopped by to pick it up on our way out of Stowe. I'm glad we did, because on a Saturday morning they are absolutely slammed. The line was all the way back to the door and there were no tables available. We ordered a ham and cheese croissant, a caramelized onion pastry, a sticky bun, and a loaf of Mad River Grain. The croissants were very good. Good lamination, nice and buttery. I do prefer a crunchier croissant though, and I wished there was a little more ham in the ham and cheese. Of the two croissants, I preferred the caramelized onion which was loaded with onion flavor. The sticky bun was delicious, but nothing mind blowing for me. We took the loaf home for some sandwiches and toasts, and thoroughly enjoyed that! Definitely get a loaf of bread when you're picking up some pastries. Overall a solid bakery, but definitely order ahead especially on the weekend!

As a self-proclaimed maple creemee connoisseur, I hearby proclaim Red Hen's maple creemee the best in the world! Their Mad Maple is resplendent with rich and creamy maple deliciousness. When served in their homemade waffle cone and sprinkled with maple dust, it's like being transported to culinary heaven. Every week, the magicians at Red Hen concoct a new flavor to offer in rotation, in addition to maple. I just can't seem to try them, due to my maple creemee addiction. But others I've taken to the cafe have and have been impressed. Enjoy your sweet treat out back in the gorgeous Camp Meade community space, a perfect place for children to explore, and for adults to linger under the shade trees. Or plop down on a bench on the porch encircling the cafe. Either way, you'll be in heaven.

When we visited Vermont on July 5th, we were on a mission to try a few creemees along the way. We already had one from Little Gordo's in Burlington earlier in the day so I couldn't give these guys a 5 star rating because I found Little Gordo's to be better. The prices were competitive. The bakery was closed but I'm hoping there's another opportunity to give them a try. I say that because there was one seeded baguette left which we were glad to have bought. That deserves a 4.5 star rating. The young lady assisting with orders was personable and nice. There aren't any places to sit but there is a camp area close by (not sure if customers can use the benches). This place is also next to a river walk trail which I thought was a nice touch. I specially loved their sign right outside the ice cream booth.

My boyfriend and I stopped here for coffee and pastries on a Sunday morning. I had the maple walnut sticky bun, and he had a ham and cheese croissant. Both were fantastic. I only wish there were more walnuts! The cashier was nice and very patient (it took me a long time to choose from all the beautiful pastries). There is plenty of seating inside, as well as a little store with apparel and pantry products. Such a great cozy cafe!

I love the Waitsfield, sliced and toasted for breakfast. They also offer pre-made dough for molasses and chocolate chip cookies.

Red Hen has bread down! I grew up in the area and this bread was a staple in my diet. It's still as good now as it was back in the day!

I actually drove an hour out of my way just to get this maple creemee -- I had visited a few years ago and had been dreaming about it ever since. Thankfully, it did not disappoint. The maple creemee was incredible -- unbelievably delicious, rich, and perfectly creamy with an authentic maple flavor that completely lives up to the hype. Easily one of the best maple treats you'll find anywhere. The maple syrup tasting was both informative and fun. The staff did a fantastic job explaining the different syrup grades and flavor profiles, and it was fascinating to taste how much they vary. Everything felt fresh, high-quality, and clearly made with care. The grounds themselves are beautiful, especially in winter. With a deep blanket of snow covering the landscape, the farm felt peaceful, scenic, and exactly what you hope for when visiting Vermont in February. If you're anywhere near Montpelier or Barre, Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks is absolutely worth the stop -- for the experience, the views, and one unforgettable maple creemee.

Bought some of their delicious maple syrup, a couple regular bottles and a verity pack. We got a couple creamees nice on a humid day. Went out and about and watched an educational video on how they get the sap from the trees. There is some equipment in that same area which is cool to see. It's Very rustic surroundings, you can tell this is where hard work is done. We walked on the trail to see how the hoses run down from the trees to the barn gathering the sap from the trees. Wishing them nothing but the best with their up coming season for their business.

This trip, we enjoyed a milkshake, Skinny Fries (they were out of poutine), Noah's Ark, and Breakfast Monster. The house bbq sauce was chosen to accompany the fries: not my favorite bbq sauce; the fries were crispy and well salted. I hope to try the poutine on another visit. Noah's Ark was a nice blend of sweet and savory. The sausage was ok, but probably would try another meat choice next time. For pesto lovers, the Monster will really scratch that itch! I haven't been to a Skinny Pancake since I received the devastating no-more-gluten-for-me news, so I was glad to see that they have a buckwheat crepe option for us gluten-free dweebs. I ordered the apple & brie crepe. I was informed that the hash purples go into a shared fryer, so they're not totally gluten-free. I accepted my future stomachache & ordered them anyways, because they've always been my favorite item on the menu. Service was friendly & prompt. Find a table, order at the counter, & they'll bring your food to you. The hash purples were totally delightful, as expected. 5 star color, too. The crepe was unfortunately very underwhelming. It was super thick & the texture was kinda ominous. I didn't end up finishing it. They might just need to tweak their gluten-free batter slightly to get the balance right. I believe in them (: Overall a fun lunch spot in the marvelous capital of Vermont.
