So...we checked out this place based on mostly positive reviews and an interesting menu. Hubby ordered the chicken fried steak. It was slathered with a thick gooey gravy, perhaps to disguise the mystery meat product buried underneath it. He ordered it with hash browns, scrambled eggs and toast. Can't screw up the basics, right? (More on that later.) I ordered the rosti which sounded delicious. Except it wasn't. It consisted of horribly burnt, like blackened, hash browns which were covered in so much melted cheese I nearly gagged. I could only eat a few bites before giving up. Little places like this are so cute and starting to get hard to find. I never expected to find one in Tahoe since it's such a touristy place. Everything here was so good! The chorizo is so well flavored. I got the red hut rosati and it was fantastic! The fries are super fresh and pairing with the gravy makes them that much better. In the immortal words of Pete Townsend, who are you? You need to know the answer to this question prior to going to this place. If you're into huge portions, cholesterol, butter, cheese, and industrial coffee, this is the place for you. If you're not, they can do some accommodation, but it is far from the fancy citified, yuppie places that some prefer. It only seats about thirty people and the place has retained a certain rustic appeal. Frankly, it's a great option and worth the effort. We live nearby and so we enjoy the place, and midweek is always a better choice, as the weekends will almost always have a wait. Yesterday, a Tuesday, we went, were seated right away, and we split a four egg "eggbeaters" cheese and Ortega chili omelet. The omelet was great, we split the hash browns, and we enjoyed the rye toast (there were many options of bread available). The restaurant did not bat an eye, as I'm sure we are not the only folks trying to make better decisions on a daily basis. Beyond huge portions and tasty food, you'll also get to enjoy some nice pictures of the way Lake Tahoe used to look. They have some large old photos that are interesting. When your near Kingsbury Grade, this is a great option and I'm a fan. If it's the weekend be sure to be patient, as the wait is worth it. read more

With the friendly service, I will get them 3.5 star. Burger is pretty solid and it worth 4 stars. But the coffee is far too watery so it only deserve 2 stars. I'm happy to say this is not our first time here but we finally made it back in while passing through the area. We were greeted and seated upon entering. The place is clean and well decorated. They have spaced seating due to covid. There are tables outside for eating also. That was so nice to see. We ordered juice and coffee I ordered an omelet hash browns and sourdough. I asked for jelly and itvwas brought right over, my husband ordered pancakes bacon cooked crisp and eggs over medium. Everything was perfect. Pancakes fluffy wow, bacon cooked to order. I enjoyed the hash browns with the right amount of crunch. The coffee was wonderful. They came around b dva few times to refill my cup abd I just loved our visit to eat here again. I hope in nice weather even after this virus is done that they keep the outdoor seating. Its a nice added thing to this place. So definitely eat here again and I suggest you try it. read more

This place is small but always good and never a long wait. The staff is always on top of things checking on you and making sure your good. They have good specials at a legit prices. Red Hut has a long history of taking care of their employees and many local kids (mine included) learn to work by starting out here. This was the first red Hut that we ended up going to and probably the higher rated of the two in my mind. This location was the smaller of the two Red Hut's and thus seating was much closer together. You were literally almost elbow-to-elbow with the other diners around you, and while there was almost no wait when we were seated (earlier in the morning) as we dined the line grew longer and longer. I went with the low calorie plate and found it poorly seasoned. My chicken was not flavored well, but my hash browns and fruit were both wonderful. I'd probably go with a different plate next go-round. All in all I enjoyed my meal and would drop by again, though probably not with a party bigger than three. read more

Being from out of town we always look for a great different restaurant to try. When you step into this place it feels like an old fifties dinner with tons of memorabilia regarding Tahoe. They also have a gift store and an ice cream shop. We were there for breakfast. My husband ordered eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. The Original Waffle was amazing, crisp and the butter is sweet. The bacon and cheese omelet plate is a good sized portion for the price. We loved the omelet and hash browns with it. Avocado toast was bland, it needed seasoning and maybe a lemon. The building is super cute and has a fun diner vibe. The outdoor seating is spacious and they do a good job with the shade. What is not to like about a small local little breakfast restaurant. The Red Hut packs charm and a homey feeling. It is not a big restaurant, and they pack you in there fairly tight. This red hut is located off kingsbury grade, surrounded by pine trees. I ordered my usual, eggs bacon and toast. Everything was great.
