This place it's like vintage family business. The food was delicious, my hash browns were very crunchy and the service was very helpful. This place reminded me a lot of those places established in small towns.

I got an avocado toast with poached.Eggs that comes with tomatoes and green onions, which is a refreshing take on an avocado taste, definitely gave it a fresh kick to it... I ordered a side of bacon cooked to perfection.Taste wonderful, smoky and crisp but not to crispy... typical diner coffee which i love. 10/10.

This was the first time we ate at this Red Hut in Tahoe. I liked that we had an option of sitting outside, it was a lovely morning and we chose to sit outside at a picnic bench with an umbrella. Hubby ordered ham and cheese omelette-plenty of both so he was happy. I had crispy bacon, eggs, hash browns, and an english muffin. The meals are consistently tasty whenever we eat here, which is nice!

Ambiance Vintage restaurant love it feels like going back into time. This reminds me of the places my grandmother would take me to. Counter seating my dad would love this place. Nice patio seating. Service Friendly, very attentive. Waffles Ok but comes with hot syrup. Rate 4 The Usual 2 eggs, hash browns, biscuits with sausage gravy. All I can say is wow. Sausage gravy perfect texture. All this for $9.99 who does that? Rate 10

I've always been a big Red Hut fan, but have been disappointed by the Ski run Tahoe and Carson locations recently. I had the Rosti with a fried egg on top and jalapeño bacon and it tasted great like i remember it being back when i first started eating at red hut. I like the tiny old school diner feel of this particular location, feels like mostly locals compared to ski run which feels like 80% tourists. Very close to state line , walkable from the casinos when the weather is nice, probably 10-12 walk from Ballys. Try the Rosti!! It's like a loaded bake potato with cheese, bacon, sour cream, green onions and a fried egg on top, comfort food at its finest. I still have noticed some pretty dark hash browns being served up which was my main complaint last couple visits.... Golden brown =yummy Dark brown = bitter and not so yummy - more butter and oil on the hash browns might help ......

This place was so cute. Service was quick and friendly. My husband and I both got sandwiches for breakfast, I loved my egg salad BLT, but fries weren't a favorite of mine, but I'm picky on fries. So I ate my husband's onion rings which were good and he ate my fries. We would eat here again, if we didn't live on the east coast.

We wanted to have a nice brunch in South Lake Tahoe and this place was great! It has a cozy diner vibe with all kinds of old ski decor lining the walls. They have a rich history which you can read all about on the back side of their menu! They don't take reservations but we came around 11am on a Saturday and were seated right away. We were close to the main entrance so it was a little cold from the outside door opening and closing so often. Our waitress forgot our drinks, so it took about 10-15 mins to get those which wasn't a big deal. I got coffee and my husband got hot tea. The coffee was refilled often and the tea came with several different flavor options. Our food came out pretty quickly! I got the Red Hut Rosti which was kind of like a breakfast version of a baked potato but with hashbrowns instead! The hashbrowns were crispy and I loved all the toppings, including an over easy egg I added as an extra side. My husband got the country fried steak, it was a big serving size and smothered in delicious gravy! We split a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream on top, we had to get one since they've used the same recipe for 30+ years! Unfortunately the bottom was a little bit burned, so it was probably more crispy than they usually are--it was even a little tough to cut. Overall, we still really enjoyed our experience here and had a great brunch before exploring more of South Lake!

Being a shawty from the South, it's been a while since I've been to a classic American diner that didn't serve a nice brawl on the side ("a meal & a show" I would call it as I ordered my usual "All-Star special" from Waffle House). Am I saying that my experience here could have been more entertaining? Not really. It was simply classic! A quick order, a decent wait, and the rest was left to mastication and digestion before an eventful day of white water rafting on the other side of the lake. I can't remember our server's name but she was very sweet like my French toast and checked on our needs regularly. I think my partner was a little disappointed about his coffee options and the experience but I don't know what else he could have wanted from this. He ordered the omelet with hashbrowns and toast and coffee. I ordered French toast with eggs and bacon. It was so much French toast I took the rest to go but it was still good layer too!

Read the history in the back of the menu. This is the original location and it's been around for decades - pretty cool and speaks to its reputation and quality of their product. The nuts and bolts: Food: 4/5 - we all enjoyed our food but wish it was served hotter, temperature wise (-1/2 star). And also -1/2 star for the sausage, which tasted/felt like the frozen "Heat and Serve" type (not sure if that's the case, but was my impression). A few more notes on the photos. Service 5/5 - I love that they checked back frequently for water and coffee refills , and the food was served pretty quickly. $$$ 3.5/5 - I found the prices kind of steep considering the "ambiance". It was up there with some of the "nicer" establishments in the area. My "Usual" was the best priced at $10 for a compete meal with 2 eggs, hash browns and 1 biscuit with gravy. Ambiance 3.5/5 - While I loved the cute history and keeping the first location/building open, I'd suggest a bit of maintenance (ladies restroom to start - stuff is peeling and falling apart)). Bottom line is it's worth a try and it's great to support local when possible. We'll try their other location if we return next year.

Came here on a Monday for a late breakfast around 11:30am, inside seating was all filled up but it is a small dining area, luckily they had some shaded outdoor seating. I ordered a hot chocolate that was topped with a mountain of whip cream and some sprinkles; and the chicken fried steak $19 came with hash browns, 2 eggs and toast but opted for a pancake to share with my little for an extra $2. Chicken fried steak was nice and tender, breaded perfectly and seasoned well. The pepper gravy that they smothered on top was yummy. Eggs ordered over easy were cooked perfectly, nice and runny. Husband got the Usual which came with a biscuit and gravy, eggs and hash browns for $10. Love this place, will definitely come back again.

We had a great brunch here the other day. The service was friendly and food came quick. No wait, but Tahoe was very slow that weekend, so I imagine the wait can be long with the small space. The grilled ham and cheese sandwich was prob the best ever had. I had mine with sourdough and cheddar and a ton of fries. My husband enjoyed his country fried steak eggs and hash browns. He had a pancake instead of toast. We didn't think the pancake was particularly tasty unfortunately. Nice small diner with lots of lunch and breakfast choices.

There aren't too many places reviewed on yelp for great breakfast/brunch options, although The Red Hut Cafe did pop up. So, we headed there for a late brunch on a weekday. Only a handful of customers when we arrived, so we chose a spot by the window. Looking over the menu, it felt like something was missing. The Husband commented that they sure didn't have a whole lot to choose from. The waitress came by to get our order and we asked if they had any specials. Thank goodness we asked because that really is where all the good stuff is! (Everything people yelped about is from the specials' menu!) We took a walk over to the counter to check out their dry erase board and saw a few things for us to choose from. The Husband went for the Country Fried Steak, which came with Two Eggs (over easy), Hash Browns, and Toast (Sourdough). He commented that they do their breading differently on the steak. I went for the Biscuits and Gravy (because other yelpers have mentioned it), and it came with Two Eggs (sunny side up) and Hash Browns. Overall, it was a decent diner breakfast. Nothing really exceptional about the food, but it satisfies what you're looking for in terms of a heavy brunch. Just be sure not to miss the specials board because that's what you're looking for! The service is horrible. Our waitress didn't tend to us the way she was supposed too. Someone else helped us. They got our order wrong and food was not cooked right. Really disappointing. Coffee was gross. Such a waste of money. read more

I'm happy to say this is not our first time here but we finally made it back in while passing through the area. We were greeted and seated upon entering. The place is clean and well decorated. They have spaced seating due to covid. There are tables outside for eating also. That was so nice to see. We ordered juice and coffee I ordered an omelet hash browns and sourdough. I asked for jelly and itvwas brought right over, my husband ordered pancakes bacon cooked crisp and eggs over medium. Everything was perfect. Pancakes fluffy wow, bacon cooked to order. I enjoyed the hash browns with the right amount of crunch. The coffee was wonderful. They came around b dva few times to refill my cup abd I just loved our visit to eat here again. I hope in nice weather even after this virus is done that they keep the outdoor seating. Its a nice added thing to this place. So definitely eat here again and I suggest you try it. read more

Nice breakfast place - had vegetarian omelette. Server was nice enough to bring out new plate when Dubai visitor accidentally put A1 sauce instead of syrup on pancakes. Sorry to say the Covid precautions forced closing at 2 pm. Thankfully this place is quite careful about masks and social distancing. read more

This place is small but always good and never a long wait. The staff is always on top of things checking on you and making sure your good. They have good specials at a legit prices. I usually get the biscuits and gravy and I'm never disappointed. I have only had breakfast here and have just about tried everything on the menu and never disappointed. read more

In the immortal words of Pete Townsend, who are you? You need to know the answer to this question prior to going to this place. If you're into huge portions, cholesterol, butter, cheese, and industrial coffee, this is the place for you. If you're not, they can do some accommodation, but it is far from the fancy citified, yuppie places that some prefer. It only seats about thirty people and the place has retained a certain rustic appeal. Frankly, it's a great option and worth the effort. We live nearby and so we enjoy the place, and midweek is always a better choice, as the weekends will almost always have a wait. Yesterday, a Tuesday, we went, were seated right away, and we split a four egg "eggbeaters" cheese and Ortega chili omelet. The omelet was great, we split the hash browns, and we enjoyed the rye toast (there were many options of bread available). The restaurant did not bat an eye, as I'm sure we are not the only folks trying to make better decisions on a daily basis. Beyond huge portions and tasty food, you'll also get to enjoy some nice pictures of the way Lake Tahoe used to look. They have some large old photos that are interesting. When your near Kingsbury Grade, this is a great option and I'm a fan. If it's the weekend be sure to be patient, as the wait is worth it. read more

Locals Choice! The food is first rate, the service superb, and the sanitation splendid. Red Hut is owned and operated by a local family who work very hard to go the extra mile. Red Hut has a long history of taking care of their employees and many local kids (mine included) learn to work by starting out here. My husband and I are healthcare workers and critical of establishments who don't actively support efforts to control COVID and keep our population well. Thank you Red Hut for all you do for our community! read more

With the friendly service, I will get them 3.5 star. Burger is pretty solid and it worth 4 stars. But the coffee is far too watery so it only deserve 2 stars. Banana pancake is average, a little bit sticky after your bite. I like they toasted the bottom of the bread and put some mustard on and beef patty is pretty juices. I order a mushroom cheese burger with pepper jack cheese. Like it! read more

This was the first red Hut that we ended up going to and probably the higher rated of the two in my mind. This location was the smaller of the two Red Hut's and thus seating was much closer together. You were literally almost elbow-to-elbow with the other diners around you, and while there was almost no wait when we were seated (earlier in the morning) as we dined the line grew longer and longer. I went with the low calorie plate and found it poorly seasoned. My chicken was not flavored well, but my hash browns and fruit were both wonderful. I'd probably go with a different plate next go-round. All in all I enjoyed my meal and would drop by again, though probably not with a party bigger than three. read more

Being from out of town we always look for a great different restaurant to try. When you step into this place it feels like an old fifties dinner with tons of memorabilia regarding Tahoe. They also have a gift store and an ice cream shop. We were there for breakfast. My husband ordered eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. The hashbrowns were golden brown and my husband said they were yummy. I ordered the French toast on texas toast with one egg and bacon. They give you 6 slices and its hard to eat it all but it was so good. If you're local you probably already know about this great spot if your not you won't ne disapponted!! read more

It was very busy, so it took them a little bit to get to us but the staff was super friendly, and when once our server made it over to us she was super nice and the service was excellent. The worst thing about this place is there are too many choices! My husband and I wanted to try everything. I ordered Don's Special with bacon, which was delicious, and the pancakes were amazing. Oh this little place is beyond the best place to have breakfast/lunch. Got here around 12ish we were a party of 5. Got seated right away. This little hole in the wall spot is really great it was cute and a bit compact on space inside. The food was great from my eggs and bacon to my waffles . It has a good vibe, a place where people in the community go to have a good meal and just enjoy sometime together. Plus the workers were very sweet and kind I wish them the best and I hope this business stays around. Side note there is a Red Hut down the street, don't get confused My friend and I were looking for each other in 2 different parking lots in two different states. read more

The Original Waffle was amazing, crisp and the butter is sweet. The bacon and cheese omelet plate is a good sized portion for the price. We loved the omelet and hash browns with it. Avocado toast was bland, it needed seasoning and maybe a lemon. The building is super cute and has a fun diner vibe. The outdoor seating is spacious and they do a good job with the shade. Everything was fairly priced, especially for the area. Great service and overall good food. read more

What is not to like about a small local little breakfast restaurant. The Red Hut packs charm and a homey feeling. It is not a big restaurant, and they pack you in there fairly tight. This red hut is located off kingsbury grade, surrounded by pine trees. I ordered my usual, eggs bacon and toast. Everything was great. Service was a bit slow but it was packed with a 15-25 minute wait. If you are in the area, try this one out. read more

Recommended by a friend and so glad we went. Place is definitely small, so if you have a big group try one of their other locations. The staff was very friendly and the food came out quick. It was delicious and I loved the Hot Apple Cider as my beverage. We all ended up getting different things from the Usual, to Biscuits and Gray to Omelettes, all delicious and you couldn't go wrong! Great way to start the day with some delicious Breakfast! Will be back the next time I am in Tahoe read more

Dear Manager, please put a lock on the ladies room door. The door does not close or lock, despite how hard every lady using the restroom tries. A simple hook and eye type lock would work. Shocked this hasn't been a priority for you. read more

we came here on a saturday morning at around 10 am to grab some brunch. this spot is much smaller than we expected. it does not seat big groups at all. there are enough seats for around 30 people ?? i could be wrong but it seems pretty small. we were a group of 5 and we were seated right away. everyone here is super friendly and nice. but there was nothing too special about the menu. food - we ordered a variety of their most popular items: pumpkin spice pancake (options - single $5, short stack $9, full $11), the usual (2 eggs, hash browns, biscuits & gravy $6.50), red hut rosti (with all 3 meats). pumpkin pancake - not a thick and fluffy pancake-like how i like them. a little kick of pumpkin spice, but nothing too special for $5. i could pass next time. the usual (hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, and eggs) - good for the price of $6.50. the hashbrowns are a little oily, eggs were average but the biscuit was really good. i asked for my gravy on the side in case i would not like it but it was super good. would recommend! prices - i think they have pretty reasonable prices. from someone who is in the bay area, these prices are not bad for brunch. overall - nothing unique that would make me come back, but the staff is super friendly and nice. super cute environment but it definitely can get packed and the wait could get super long. the wait for the food was not long. there are other locations and it might be bigger! summary - food: 3/5 (avg) service: 4/5 (super friendly) prices: 4/5 (reasonable) environment/space: 2/5 (super small) read more

Is this place worth the wait? YES Every-time I come to Tahoe I go to this joint on the regular. Such an awesome breakfast. If your not feeling the coffee, get the apple cider. Another hidden gem is the jalapeno bacon(sweet n spicy). Waffles, pancakes, and Don's special are my go to's as well! This a must! The wait is worth it once again! read more

Your hostess is not in command of the English language. I tried to order take out and eat outside with my dog. She doesn't get it after 2 conversations . You are missing the dog owner business and who knows what else. Put an adult at the hostess stand. read more

IRRESISTIBLE DELICIOUS FOOD..! Happened to visit the place on Halloween and it was really exciting! Kick started our day with their so delicious food that kept us full for most of the day! (Reminds me of the quote- "Eat breakfast like a King")... We visited thrice the same week.. Lovely service and ambience. The large omelette combo had a big portion of omelette, hash-browns and a side of toast with country butter..! YUM! (had to pack my left overs as I couldn't finish it all by myself!) On the bright side, the fries were SO good -- they tasted like they were fried in beef tallow and reminded us of McDonald's fries in the best way. Overall, a good spot with a nice atmosphere, and I'd definitely be open to trying other items on the menu next time!

Absolutely love the Red Hut Café on Kingsbury Grade - a true Tahoe classic that's been serving up smiles since 1959! We stopped in for a hearty breakfast with the family, and it was the perfect cozy diner experience. The place is packed with nostalgic charm: vintage photos on the walls, snowflake decorations, red booths, and that welcoming counter vibe that makes you feel right at home. The food? Outstanding and generously portioned! We dove into massive omelets loaded with goodies, crispy hash browns, fluffy scrambled eggs, golden French toast with butter melting on top, and a perfectly cooked plain omelet. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you crave for a mountain breakfast. The kids had fries and grilled items that disappeared fast, and there were even crayons and activity sheets to keep them entertained. I had a horrible experience at this Red Hut location. If you're deciding which Red Hut location to visit, definitely skip this one and choose another. The older brunette lady who was our waitress was extremely rude and provided poor customer service. I received my food well after all of my friends had finished eating, and she never came to check on our table, only appearing at the end to drop off the check. This level of unprofessionalism was disappointing and unacceptable. In contrast, I visited other Red Hut locations, and the experience was night and day. The staff at those locations were friendly and attentive, the food was prepared quickly, and it was delicious. It's clear that the service and quality at this particular Red Hut location are far below the standards of the others. read more

seeing the expensive lawn in front of the redhut location and knowing of its excellent reputation we selected to try breakfast. Yum! Great food and great service. The coffee was watery, however, dispensing of any second cups. But the waffles and chicken fried steak, hash browns and toast were great as were perfectly cooked over easy eggs. Place is small but you can tell it's one of those hole in the wall places that's been around for a long time and will continue to be around for a long time because they have great food.
