This restaurant is located in the food court at the Santa Anita mall. It used to be under a different name. I haven't had Mongolian bbq in awhile but I feel it doesn't taste as good. First you pay. You choose either entree or the works (includes soup and drink) then you get the food prepared. First, some changes. Due to COVID safety instead of getting the meats and veggies yourself the staff fill your bowl for you. The food is blocked off from the outside so that's good, less people touching/breathing on the food. So they get your meats, vegetables and sauces. They then take your bowl along with a bowl of noodles to the cook. You are able to see the cook prepare your friend. He cooks multiple customers' food at the same time. Everything was going well until I see he was pretty done with mine and used the chef chopsticks to flip the other customer's raw food before using those same chopsticks to transfer into my takeout box. I cane hoke and reheates the food just in case. Taste-wise it was pretty bland. I suppose healthier for you....?? The staff was pretty friendly so I'll give them more than 1 star. read more

This place is obviously located in a food court which is known for very sub-par or mediocre options/quality. So I'll try to keep that in mind while writing this review. Such a disappointment... we haven't been back to the mall for two years since the COVID and I was looking forward to eat here as this was my go to spot while visiting the mall. I was so gung ho about coming back here to eat. I have loved this spot even before it became red iron. But they no longer cook things well. I should have brought floss from the rubber bands of meat stuck in my teeth. Finally open during the pandemic! Due to covid-19, they don't allow their customers to reach and grab their own choice of meat and veggies. They have a glass covering and the workers actually help you grab your items into your bowl. They don't mess around though! They stack it pretty well the two times I have visited. Please DO NOT come here during covid! Cook uses hands to grab your items instead of metal tongs! I understand that the business thinks a gloved hand is safe, but I did not appreciate the same hand that dipped into something wet and then a dry ingredient. I was a huge fan of this place when they were self serve because you are able to customize whatever you wanted in your bowl! I am very simple and only like a few specific items in my bowl. Therefore I would fill my whole bowl with two or three items because that was basically all I wanted. However, now that they are the ones who put your bowl together you, are only allowed one or two pieces of what you want! At first, I told her that I just wanted broccoli and bean sprouts and she said even though I just wanted two items I can only have one scoop of each. Instead of in the past, where if you just wanted two items, you were able to have more abundant of the specific item that you wanted. Let me start off by saying that the cashier who took my order was exceptionally wonderful. She was so above and beyond friendly and helpful! Two thumbs up! Red Iron seems to have taken the place of Great Khan's Mongolian at the Santa Anita Mall. I have no clue if it is owned by the same people and has simply undergone some rebranding or if it is a new company altogether but whatever the case, I do know that Great Khan's is no longer there and Red Iron has taken its place in the food court as the new self-serve Mongolian noodle bowl restaurant. Anywho, something I noticed right away is the signage they have up, asking patrons not to push down on the food in the bowl (lol). I've been to other similar establishments and have never seen similar signage so that was surprising. I can't say I don't understand where they're coming from but it still took me by surprise. Secondly, and perhaps what I disliked most, is that you cannot serve yourself the baby corns. While it is typical for the staff to serve sauces and spices, it is unusual for any vegetables to not be self-serve. The fact that I was unable to serve my own baby corns resulted in my bowl having only 4 small pieces. Not enough! Thirdly, they skimp out on the noodles. Of all the similar fast food restaurants I've tried, this one served the least amount of noodles by far. I'm guessing they do that (and the baby corn thing) in order to save money but let me tell ya, it leaves the customer unsatisfied. I love this place!!!! I think the quality has gone down just a bit over the years but it's still my favorite place to go to for Mongolian stir-fried noodles. I always stack my bowl to the top and their sauces are so yummy. I know they've downsized their bowls since my high school days but it's still a convenient spot to get my noodle fix. If you happen to be at the mall, give this place a try! They also have sriracha sauce and takeout bags, but you have to ask for it separately. read more

Red Iron took over the OG Mongolian BBQ spot that was here before, Great Khans. I am pretty sure they are the same people, everything is exactly the same. Service was fast when I came. When it gets busy, I am sure it moves really slow. The topping line can move slow if the person is going at a snail pace loading their bowl. Entree Only - $9.25 - You basically get a bowl to fill with toppings. They top it with sauces and noodles. They cook it on the flat top grill with water and soy sauce. The meat is frozen. I always push the beef rolls down (you are not supposed to) since they purposely roll it to take up space. The veggies look pretty fresh. Cannot complain. Good freshly cooked meal for a decent mall price. Always hits the spot for me. read more

The only reason why it is receiving three stars is because they did not clean their grill. The iron grill was so dirty, and they just kept cooking on top of it without scraping it off. I was here to watch a movie and its nice to have a selection where people can get different foods, I like Mongolian BBQ and I was fairly happy with my choice but I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit. It's fast, a little pricey because of the mall rent and its nice to choose the options you want, a little more of the things you like and less of the stuff you may not. You're the one picking your own meat and vegetables and putting them in your plate so if it's not fresh, that's on you. The service is fast and efficient. As long as you and no one in front of you in line is wasting time picking toppings like it's the most important choice in the world, you're in and out in 5 minutes. Since your dish is cooked right in front of you, you receive it hot and steaming and you can be sure your food wasn't sitting under a heat lamp for 5 hours. The meat is tender and juicy.
