ordered the Szechuan chicken (orange chicken in parenthesis) but I have no idea why it's Szechuan when it's just orange chicken with a few red chilis.. something I could get at panda express so felt scammed. There was too much sweetness in the orange chicken and like orange peel made it sweeter. The shrimp was sweet too, alright like panda express too. Service was alright. We ordered two items and two small rice and two iced tea came out to 63 without tip lol (i did tip 15%), ok never coming back. only came here for 4th of july and yeah, it was pretty empty on a saturday. feels bad for the economy, everything up and getting price gouged, feels bad for the workers, but u know, got to talk with my friend for two hours here. not like they were gonna rush us out anyways lol. nice A/C and quiet environment and got refills for the iced tea.

I've been coming to this and the Chinatown location for the last 30 years. The Chinatown location used to be better; but, over the last couple of years it seems to have reversed. For whatever reason, the quality of the food in Chinatown has deteriorated very badly while Pasadena has improved. The slippery shrimp is always the attraction. The braised string bean is one of the best in town. Fish fillet with wine sauce is always one of my gotos. My only complain about this place is they should use much better quality rice.

    Chicken egg Foo Young

The food is solid, but I do have a gripe. First the great stuff. The chicken egg foo Young was excellent. The patties were flavorful, light, and had a nice texture variation between the crunch from the bean sprouts and the tender & juicy chicken. I had the sauce on side which I think is the way to go. The sauce is thick & rich and a small amount does wonders. The wonton soup is fresh and has chicken and shrimp pieces along side the fresh made wontons. It was a delight. The Szechuan beef was good, but my gripe is when ordering the server said it was spicy and it was actually sweet with little to no heat. It's still a great dish, but we weren't looking for sweet, we were looking for heat which it did not offer. The ambiance is nice, the place is clean, the food comes very quickly, and the prices are fair--the soup was maybe not worth the price. I felt for the size of the bowl it would be better appreciated at $7 or $8. They also have a parking lot, but street parking is easy and there's plenty of it. The service is very friendly, too. I'll definitely be back for the egg foo Young. Oh, and the hot tea was tasty. All said, it's worth your time and money. But if you're looking for authentic Chinese food, this may not be the best place for your visit. If you're looking for exceptionally safe Chinese food to please the not so daring, you cannot go wrong visiting this spot. They have a lot of photos of celebrities that have been there, but I think that's because the food is tasty without challenging your palette to accept the more traditional flavors of Chinese food one might get in Temple City or San Gabriel.

Always a go to place in Pasadena or Chinatown for some greasy Cantonese comfort Chinese food! Same nice friendly owner and staff have been delivering their version of chinese food with some variations for Slippery shrimp and other house specialties. Great for take out too and lunch specials during the weekdays.

I had the pleasure of dining at Yang Chow in Pasadena, and I have to say, it was an unforgettable experience! The food was absolutely amazing, with large portions that left us more than satisfied. To top it off, the staff was incredibly kind and made my mom's birthday extra special by surprising her with a little birthday ice cream and a cheerful song. Their hospitality really set the tone for a fantastic meal. Highly recommend for great food and even better service!

Wanted Chinese food and found this place on Google so decided to give it a try instead of driving into San Gabriel/Alhambra. It was okay overall, good but not great. They seem to cater more to westerners which makes sense given their location. We ordered the lamb house special, beef broccoli scallop stir fry, fried wontons, and a Lo mein. Their meat dishes were pretty good but you definitely need white rice to pair with it. The fried wontons were subpar and truly just fried dough with a spec of pork filling. The Lo mein was good but tasted overwhelmingly of bamboo shoots, we added the chili oil to it. I'd probably just come back for take out if I dine here again.

    Slippery as always

Location in Chinatown LA is legendary. This spot not so much. The slippery shrimp was on point as always but the Orange Beef and Noodles with veggies were lacking. The noodles were all blend and the veggies just seemed poor quality. Soaked with water that they had a really off-putting mushy texture. Orange Beef was flavorful but like chewing bits of rubber. Shreds were getting stuck in my teeth! Just get a rice and shrimp and call it a day!

Went on a Monday for dinner and the place was a little empty. Service is quick and the servers were very attentive. We ordered the wonton soup for 4 along with pan fried noodles, orange chicken and a beef dish I can't remember which one. I don't think I ever had such flavored wonton soup. The broth is well seasoned and the ingredients were fresh and well portioned. The orange chicken was a bit too crispy but I liked the mild taste of the orange. The noodles were too crispy for me but the beef on both dishes was decent. They have a big menu I would like to try more.

If you don't want to wait a long time don't come for dinner. Every time I've been here it is busy and a lot of to go orders. The service is quick once you are seated and food does not take very long. Restaurant is clean and not very big but fits a decent amount of tables. Slippery shrimp and schezhuan beef are my favorites. Not a big fan of the noodles. Parking available on the street and their lot is rather small and narrow.

Woah. My brother-in-law, Manny, recommended this place, so my family and I made a visit here. I was surprised to see people were already lining up a few minutes before opening. The appetizers and mains were AMAZING! This was my first time eating shrimp toast. I don't think I know of any other place that serves this. It's like eating crispy butterfly shrimp but BETTER. Then there's the juicy pork dumplings. Yup. Hits the spot. Definitely juicy and perfect on this cold day. Same with the sizzling rice soup! I also had the Moo Shu Beef. That was so yummy. I'm so glad they wrapped it for us because I'd get so messy if I did this myself. Finally, you can't go wrong with combination chow mein. It was protein filled and didn't miss. This was an amazing dining experience. Plenty of seats for large gatherings and the portions are perfect for sharing. It's so fun to see the wall of celebs who've dined here. Perhaps that's a testimonial to come try this place, but the great food and excellent service is convincing enough for me.

I can definitely see the appeal of this restaurant. It's good old Chinese comfort food. Ideal to come here with a family/friends and share various plates. My favorites were the string beans and slippery shrimp. Service was kind of slow and impersonal though.

This restaurant in Los Angeles is famous for its patrons that have come into eat. Well let me tell you, the Slippery Shrimp are worth drive from Orange Country to eat. We ordered the shrimp, Kung pow beef, fried rice, and sauced green beans. The beef was good and the fried rice were good. It seems that everywhere we go and order steamed rice, it just seems bland to blah. Nothing special. But the Slippery Shrimp was the bomb. It is their own recipe and it is very similar to Orange chicken, but it is shrimp. So good. As for the green beans, we always compare them to our favorites so they have a hard time matching up. They good, but not as good as the one in San Gabriel. Will be back for more shrimp

It's a comfortable spot with padded banquettes or chairs at the tables, which feature chrome frames and (very good-looking) faux marble tops; along with white walls and light-colored wood accents, the owners have created a clean, simple, welcoming environment. The mood is jostled even further into a specific vibe of calmness with the carefully curated music being played: bossa nova covers of pop hits from bygone days (The Bee Gees' "More Than A Woman" and the Bee Gees'-written Streisand hit, "A Woman In Love" being examples), but it all works. The menu offers a varied selection of dishes from several Asian cultures, from Chinese Beef Rolls to Japanese noodles and soups to Korean Beef over rice. It's not a huge menu, but there's definitely enough there for everyone to find something interesting to eat. The food is all cooked in view of the customers by a staff of chefs working in a sparkling clean kitchen enclosed by windows, and the staff is uniformly friendly despite juggling a lunchtime crowd at the tables plus quite a lot of to-go orders. I tried 2 really enjoyable and satisfying dishes. Beef Rolls featured thinly sliced brisket rolled inside crispy fried crepes with scallion, cilantro and a touch of Hoisin sauce. The brisket had a mild but distinctive flavor that spoke of careful preparation, while the slightly astringent pop from the onions and herbs was a nice foil for the inherent fattiness of the fried crepes. The Hoisin sauce was very subtly deployed, lending tasty support without overwhelming everything else. I added some of the house chili oil for a little extra spice and peppery depth, but these well-made rolls were terrific all by themselves. It should also be noted that the portion is very generous, especially for the price ($12.80), and more than enough for 2 people (perhaps 4 people, if each has 1/2). My other dish was the Qinghai Clear Cold Noodle, a terrific-looking, and even better-tasting blend of thick, chewy noodles, fresh chopped garlic, veggies, tofu and chili sauce that's got a bit of heat but more so a pleasing depth of Chinese spices. This appetizer is packed with flavor and just happens to be Vegan (as are a number of menu items), so it can be enjoyed by anyone. All in all, this was a fantastic mid-week lunch that pleased the senses without breaking the bank, and I even brought some home for later. Do give this Noodle St. a try -- and if you're not in Pasadena, check their website, because they have 8 locations, with a 9th opening soon in Sherman Oaks.

The quality was solid, and everything came out hot. The chicken wings were great, the garlic green beans and cucumber salad were amazing, and the signature spicy ramen was really good too. It was a bit greasy, almost like birria, but the meat was tender and the broth tasted like it had been cooking for 48 hours deep, rich, and full of flavor. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the Korean beef. It was way too sweet and didn't really give Korean BBQ flavor. The meat seemed more steamed than grilled, and not even vinegar or chili oil could save it for me. Other than that, everything else was fresh, flavorful, and worth coming back for.

Some of my favorites are the beef rolls, spicy wontons, green onion pancake, chow fun, orange chicken, and chow mein noodles. The noodles are especially good and, importantly, not overly greasy or oily, which can sometimes be an issue at other places. The prices are also competitive, especially considering the portions and quality of the food. It is the kind of place where you can order a good spread, share a bunch of dishes, and feel like you got a solid meal for the money. I also love that they bring out sugared peanuts when you sit down. It is a small touch, but a really nice one. The restaurant has plenty of seating, though service can be a bit slow at times, so good luck flagging down a waiter when it gets busy. You can also tell they are a high-volume dumpling restaurant because there is often steam in the dining room, which can make the restaurant feel a little warm at times. They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. Salted egg yolk pumpkin: I normally love this dish, only wished the outside was crispier, got soggy fast and with how thick these are cut you want the crispy exterior, but flavor was good. Only thing that made me feel a bit "eh" was the chipped plateware they have and continue to use. Service - wonderful! Everyone was so friendly and had nice customer service. They even helped recommend dishes and also share opinions on what we shouldn't order which I loved. Parking - free parking lot! There are a few spaces right in front of the restaurant. But around the side there's more parking as well.
