The ambience is very much like a diner, but super friendly. Service was amazing and the recommendations that our waitress gave us were all spot on! Kids 1 egg breakfast: we got the scrambled eggs for this and it came out as a huge portion. More like three scrambled eggs. Prepared well, not very salty. Probably could've used a little extra salt. But I appreciated being able to do it to taste. Also comes w choice of bacon or sausage, and then choice of either fruit or potato item, and also a choice of bread item. Amazing value 5/5 The hollandaise on the Benedict was to die for her. I felt like the hashbrowns had a little bit of like a bacon fat type of taste to them? Maybe other people like them they were very crispy, but I didn't like something about the agent the hashbrowns were cooked in. One of the best pancakes (ordered as a side) that I've ever eaten in my life. The biscuit was also decent but doesn't come out hot. It's very fluffy. Not like a homestyle/Super buttery type of biscuit.

Red Kettle was a staple for my Idyllwild trips growing up, and I was thrilled to bring my best friend during her first visit. It's just as cozy as I remember! Honestly I think this trip was blessed because I magically got a parking spot out front and despite expecting that we would have to wait, we were seated right away. It was poppin so it took almost 30 minutes for the food to come out but it was delicious and the coffee is good. It's right in the heart of town so there's plenty to explore afterwards. They don't take reservations and it's very popular, but definitely worth it.

RED KETTLE @ IDYLLWILD Parking is limited to street parking only, but there are plenty of spots around the small town. It's free and super easy to find. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday afternoon and found parking within minutes. My boyfriend has been coming to The Red Kettle for the past two years every time he visits this town, so I was really excited to finally try it. When we arrived, there was already a line out the door with people waiting. We put our names down and waited about 20 minutes, which went by pretty quickly. Once we were seated, we got our menus, and the girl who took our order was incredibly sweet. I loved her energy and the recommendations she gave. We ordered a hot chocolate to start, and it was amazing, definitely on the sweeter side and piled with whipped cream, so if you have a sweet tooth, you'll love it. My boyfriend also got a black coffee, which comes with unlimited refills. The staff walks around offering more, so you never run out. For food, my boyfriend got the Junkyard Omelette, and I ordered the French toast with bacon. We also shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy. The food took about 30 minutes to come out, which is understandable since it was packed. Just keep in mind that weekends get super busy. The restaurant is open from 7 AM to 2 PM daily, so if you're visiting, try to come before noon so you don't risk getting turned away near closing time. Now the food, honestly incredible. I'm not even a big biscuits person, but their biscuits and gravy were to die for. They were savory, soft, and had the perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture. I highly recommend getting them. You can choose between a half-order or full order. For a group of 2-3 people, the half-order is perfect, but the full order is great if you're really hungry. My French toast was delicious, and although my bacon came out a little burnt at first, they remade it super quickly. The eggs were great too. My boyfriend's omelette came with crispy hashbrowns that were honestly so good. It all tasted fresh, hearty, and very home-cooked, like something you'd make with your family. I loved the classic diner vibe and the cozy ambiance. Overall, I would definitely come back to The Red Kettle if I'm ever in Idyllwild again. The experience was great, the service was amazing, and the food was absolutely worth the wait.

Red kettle is a must go brunch spot when visiting Idyllwild. Pros: being the only brunch spot in Idyllwild the line can get very long. This could be a really good thing because the food is really good, but this could also be a bad thing because you might be waiting a long time. I arrived in the late morning and was able to get seated within 20 minutes for a table of two. The food here is really good. I ordered the junkyards omelette and it was very filling, had a side of hashbrowns and toast and the flavor was great. My girlfriend ordered the French toast combo which came with two eggs and her choice of sausage or bacon she chose bacon. I also ordered a coffee and she ordered a hot chocolate. Both were really good and coffees had a free refill. There are two bathrooms within the inside and they were very clean. Cons: first con would be the long wait times depending on what time you show and when you visit during the year. Because it gets very busy, service could be slow for me. The service was good, but the food came out a little longer than it should have. I didn't mind because I didn't have any anywhere else to go so that was fine with me, but just keep in mind, you could be waiting a while. Verdict: before this time I came to red kettle at least twice before every time that I visited Idlewild and I will continue visiting because it's very good food. I always have a good time there and it's really the only spot to get brunch and not a wild, I would recommend this to anybody visiting.

My husband wanted to surprise me and take me somewhere new for my birthday. We don't live close by but I want to see some snow. The drive up there was beautiful even though I am afraid of heights. It's cute little diner type of place with a lot of posters. Friendly people, since I am allergic to eggs I have to go to places that servers breakfast and lunch which they do. They menu look great I was excited to get the usual for me is either patty melt or Reuben . The service was awesome, outstanding coffee. Unfortunately the rest of our food was NOT outstanding. They burned my bread so bad that all I could taste was burned bread and not the rest of my Reuben sandwich! Normally I would send it back but they were so nice that I didn't have the heart to do it. My husband ordered breakfast burrito and it was nothing to brag about. I would go back for the coffee and friendly people.

The staff here couldn't be friendlier--seriously, they're hustling nonstop but still manage to make you feel welcome. The place was packed with locals, which pretty much guarantees it's the spot to be. It's got that cool, old-school diner vibe with tons of tables and counter space, plus outdoor seating if you want to soak up the sunshine. And the food? So good. We ordered the muffin sandwich with hash browns, yummy! Everything came out exactly how we ordered it--hot, tasty, and totally hit the spot.

This little breakfast spot was small but completely packed--and honestly, that just proved how good it is. Even with every table full, the customer service never missed a beat. Our hostess and our server were both incredibly attentive, kind, and on top of everything. This is as good of a breakfast as you'll get! Tourist towns can be tough but this place is great. The staff is beyond friendly. They're enough to get me to return. The Griddled Potato Scramble is delicious and HUGE. The omelet was great as well, but I can't speak to it because my partner devoured it before I could try it. That speaks for itself, I think. Get the biscuit. It's fluffy and perfect. Just do it. Also, go early. Like, as soon as they open. Otherwise, you're going to be waiting a while.

Warm and cozy family-feel restaurant in town. The place is tiny and the line is long! Put your name down and make sure someone from your party is present waiting because if they call your party and you're not there...your seat will be taken due to the long lines! . They are very accommodating though and so nice. The boss lady Tammy is super sweet and will try her best to ensure you are taken care of . The food is delish. Hash browns are perfect, crispy on the outside and butter soft inside. The pancakes are soooo good you don't even need syrup! We also got French toast...they give you a good amount not just 2 pieces of bread like some of the other places. For dessert we had apple pie à la mode. So good! My kids also tried the wagyu Benedict, the chicken fried steak, and the brisket. I am assuming it was all good because they cleaned their plates. Love the art pieces on the wall...from local artists to the hilarious sarcastic sayings.Had to dock a star because the wait time for food is long even though they do their best with all the craziness. And one of the waitresses had a little attitude when we accidentally bumped into her because the place was crowded and despite giving her an apology.

The service was excellent...as soon as we walled in the girl from Hemet HS gave us our drinks with a smile. Then we ordered our food, once we received it we were very pleased. From my hubby's avocado bacon burger and the sliders for my girl all was delicious. I was in the mood for a Reuben and got a delicious one w/ fresh kraft match. The dishes were served with a smile and care. The paintings and plaques on the walls ga very me a giggle too. Keep up the good work ladies of the Red Kettle and we will be back again soon. read more

We decided to spend a weekend in idyllwild and came across this place as we were exploring the town. We stopped in around 10am on a Saturday. They were busy but we were able to snag a spot at the counter area so we didn't have to wait. The ambiance was great... just what you would expect from a small mountain town cafe. The food was delicious and hit the spot. We got biscuits & gravy (half order was MORE than enough), sausage, hash browns (amazing and crispy... just how I like them), and a pancake. Service was excellent and great prices. We plan to go back to idyllwild with the kiddos and will definitely try this place again! read more

Just your average decent diner food, nothing really exceptional. They have a small patio which is good as the restaurant itself is cramped and stuffy. Service is spotty - the youngish servers are pleasant. There's a middle aged blond woman who has a rude attitude that was off putting. read more

We came in for a late breakfast and ordered the spinach omelette and chicken fried steak breakfast. The omelette had jack cheese, spinach and mushrooms, delicious! We both chose the country potatoes which are diced bite sized potatoes, nice and hot and crispy! We both had sourdough toast as well, nicely toasted and not over buttered. Waitress, Kelly, was attentive throughout. As a side note, this is the go to place in town and as such is often full. It's worth the wait!!! read more

I can't believe this place has 4 stars! Unfortunately for the 4 of us who ate here for breakfast this morning, we could barely eat our meals. I don't like leaving un-complimentary reviews but I use Yelp and they've never steered me this wrong and I don't want others to make the same mistake of eating here! We ordered the rock climber breakfast sandwich and it was absolutely disgusting. Biscuits and gravy were cold and home fries weren't homemade, as I don't think anything is.... Everything was extremely poor quality and we would have been better stopping at McDonalds for breakfast and I hate fast food. Hate to complain but I'm just being honest. Don't go here. Save your money and your stomach. read more

We had a nice breakfast here this morning . We found nearby street parking. Restaurant is cozy and warm . Waitress told us to seat ourselves which we did and found a nice table in the corner . Coffee was hot and comforting . Endless too. We ordered : Chicken fried steak : - eggs scrambled , extra gravy , fruit , side of biscuits and gravy (extra $2.50? Or so). Eggs were nice as was the deep fried chicken fried steak . Gravy was thick and nicely seasoned . Fruit came with watermelon , honeydew, grapes , strawberries, pineapple Eggs Benedict - - eggs were medium poached nicely ! Hollandaise sauce was creamy and delicious . Side of cottage cheese was filling . Service was friendly . Coffees could have been refilled more often after we received food but no biggie . The restaurant was fun and the breakfast was nice . I always found the food here very good. If you have a service dog this is the place for you to come and enjoy good food with the respect and understanding that you have a service dog. I felt welcome right away when k walked in and when they noticed I had a service dog they open all the seating options for me to choose. They never made contact with the service and allowed the dog to work and not be bothered. It's easily tempting to say hi to a service dog because many don't know you are not to interact unless the handler authorizes or the dog interacts based off level of training and service provided to the handler. So please feel free to come here and relax and enjoy a good breakfast with your service dog. read more

Stopped in since this looked like some good diner food, and there was a line outside so I though surely this must be a good spot! Unfortunately it was a bust. We just wanted first available, and were told about 15min wait - no sweat. I was a bit peeved however when a group arrived at about the 15 min mark they were seated immediately, and we were seated a bit after them - but whatever, odd timing happens. Finally we were sat, and a few moments after us another group of two were sat to our right. The waitress approached the other two first, and benevolently they told her that our party was actually waiting longer. Thanks to them for letting us get our order in. As we were waiting, a third group was sat to our left. And was able to order almost immediately. As we waited the group to our right was served their meal. Time passed, the group to our left was served. Time goes on and the two to our right was ready for their check - still no meal for us. All told it was about 30-35 minutes for a waffle, pancake, eggs, and sausage. Essentially our experience was a long wait, for mediocre food, with (apparently) no one waitress in charge of our table - which meant that we only had service if someone happened to notice we were trying to get someone's attention. read more

Cozy, rustic, country, diner. Lots of seatIng available and even some outdoor seating if the weather is nice. The food was good, not the best I've ever had. I had the breakfast burrito. And my girlfriend had a spinach omelet with a biscuit which she thought was really good. Definitely recommend the biscuit. Get there before 11am or you won't be able to order from the grill. No French toast, pancakes or waffles later than that. read more

3.5 stars Red Kettle serves up regular diner fare. Service is quick and friendly. I ordered the bacon, avocado, Swiss omelet ($9.75). It's served with a side of hashbrowns and I chose sourdough toast. The omelet was good - the avocado was on point. Eh, it did its job and I was satisfied. I did enjoy my side of sausage ($4). Casing didn't have the usual snap I like, but I thought it had good flavor. There are a lot of regulars who frequent this joint. The portions are generous and prices are low, so on a whole, a very good big for your buck. read more

My family recently stopped by the Red Kettle for the first time, while visiting in Idyllwild. For those who want a simple, "homestyle", familiar meal -- they offer chicken fingers with fries, small cheeseburgers with fries, grilled cheese with fries, and more, on their lunch menu. For our pickup order, we had a wait time of about 25 minutes, on a weekday, mid afternoon. It was not an issue for us, since there are many small gift shops nearby to discover, in the meantime. I think for the large amount of food portions offered, it was reasonably priced and a good value. Staff was courteous and COVID protocols were being followed. Customers waiting in line kept a distance and had face coverings on. All in all, worth a stop, if you are in the area. read more

Out favorite breakfast place when we go camping in Idyllwild. Best fluffy buttermilk pancakes. The banana nut muffins also are moist and delish. When we could dine it we'd get breakfast dishes. Can't go wrong with bacon, eggs and hash browns. Breakfast quesadilla was yummy. Omelette also good. Rock climber also delish. For covid take out the breakfast burritos are the bomb! Tasty and portable. Comes with sides of salsa and sour cream. read more

Red Kettle was a great choice for breakfast! We were in Idyllwild for a couple of nights and came here our first morning in town. They have it set up for Covid safety, so order at the window. They have outdoor seating available on the deck. I had the breakfast quesadilla. My wife had the breakfast burrito. We are vegetarians so we requested they leave the meat products off. They have a veggie sausage or avocado you can substitute. The breakfast quesadilla had eggs, cheese, avocado. The burrito had all that plus potato. We also ordered coffee. The service was fast. The servers were accommodating and kind. The food was really good. The servings are large and could be shared but don't do that. Support small business and order your own. I highly recommend Red Kettle. The parking is easy. The portions are large. The price is great. No restrooms or indoor seating because ... Covid. They normally have these things. Tip your server. Wear a mask. Clean up after yourself! Breakfast Quesadilla Be cool and enjoy! read more

Great place, I had the breakfast burrito with bacon and added avocado to complete my meal. My wife had the French toasts and the kids had the pancakes with hash browns. The service was good and they were very attentive to us. I would diffidently recommend this place. Also get the muffins, they are worth it. read more

What a darling place! Found it on Yelp after searching for breakfast places in the area with decent reviews. I liked the menu selection, prices, and photos/reviews, so my boyfriend and I drove up from Indian Wells on a Friday morning. He ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with fruit, an english muffin, orange juice, and coffee. I chose the Eggs Florentine (basically eggs benny with spinach), cottage fries, and coffee. Let's not forget the side of ranch. ;) Everything tasted great and the service was spectacular. My "fries" were a tad overcooked, but not enough to deduct a star rating, send back, and I still at 3/4 of them. read more

When we walked up the estimated wait was over an hour. We were seated in less than 15 min., I got the fish and chips. The fries were great but it took awhile for our food to arrive after we ordered. In my opinion it was worth the wait. The hot chocolate was amazing and the whip cream was better than most other resturants. The hot chocolate was hot but not to the point where it burns your throat. We never got served unfortunately. We sat down and no one greeted us. 3 or 4 other groups came in they all got menus , silverware drink orders. Still no one say hi or nothing we walk out the waitress is talking to her friends and doesn't say anything to us. We were really bummed because we were told us there food was good:( read more

We dined here on Sunday, 11 MAR 2018 AD. According to the literature, this business has been around since about 1920 AD; originally it began as a candy store and then later, a coffee shop. This is a very busy restaurant with some of the best food I've ever had! I highly recommend the omelets - you can also get fruit on the side. I also ordered the biscuits and gravy, on the side, which were phenomenal! My wife had to send her bacon back, but they did right by her and made it super crisp! Just how she likes it! The prices were fair, the wait was worth it, and the food portions were great! The service was fast, friendly and everything looked clean. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends! I shall visit here the next time we return to this town. This establishment rates a solid 5 stars!!! read more

Had not been in the town in over 40 years. Went today to see an art fair. Forgot what a great little mountain town this was. My wife ordered a half turkey sandwich with a white bean, chili soup. They gave her a half piece of pie for desert. Very reasonably priced around $10 or so. I decided I wanted pancakes. So I ordered two eggs, two pancakes, and two sausage. My food was perfect, they paid attention and refilled my soda, the eggs were cooked as I ordered, and the sausage was especially good. Plenty of butter and syrup to go along with it. My wife was pleased with her sandwich and cup of soup. Both were delicious. She ordered a 1/2 piece of pie with whipped cream. They heated the piece of pie. My wife was very happy with it all. Pros: They open fairly early, and as far as I know there isn't anything else available in town for a sit-down breakfast at that time. Cons: Extremely crowded and noisy for a weekend breakfast. The noise level makes it impossible to have a conversation. The portions are way more than I would ever consider eating at one sitting. I don't see this as an advantage. It means I'm paying for food that will get thrown away, or at best for food that I can take home and microwave. The cooking is sloppy. Toast arrives burned. Hash browns arrive burned. If you're ordering eggs, make sure you understand how they interpret "over easy" versus "over medium." Their over easy means the whites are runny. If you want the whites solid, ask for over medium. If your food shows up and there's a problem with it, don't expect the wait staff to deal with it graciously. If you're really desperate for some calories in the early morning, Higher Grounds and Amelia's Doughnuts are both better bets in terms of food, service, and environment, although they aren't sit-down restaurants. If you really want to sit down to a meal, The Sunflower is much nicer, although they don't open until 8. Mile High Cafe and Alpaca Coffee and Tea may also be better options once they reopen. read more

Established in 1920.

The Red Kettle was started in 1920 as the Coffee Cup and later changed to Jans Red Kettle in 1979. When Jan retired it was again changed to the Red Kettle in January 2007. Sever famous people have made the Red Kettle a must stop over the years such as Clark Gable, Elvis, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Jan Michael Vincent, David Horowitz, Fritz Colman, Dolly Parton, Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston just to name a few.

Meet the Business Owner: Bruce R.

Bruce Ross has been a part-time resident of Idyllwild for over 40 years. His love of nature, rock climbing and the Red Kettle kept him coming back. When he heard that The Red Kettle was for sale, he jumped at the chance to own his favorite restaurant. His mascot, Perry, the Peregrine Falcon, is now keeping watch over Ernie, the world famous Red Kettle! Come and see us soon!

The donuts are hands…read moredown some of the best I've ever had, perfectly balanced, fresh, and clearly made with a lot of care. But what really surprised me was the burger. It's honestly one of the best around. Juicy, flavorful, and done right with no shortcuts. What makes this place even more special is Amelia herself. Her story, her hustle, and the passion she puts into everything you see and taste is inspiring. You can feel that this isn't just a business, it's something she truly built and believes in. Places like this are what make the food scene so great. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out.

I tried their fruit tart and it was delicious. Sadly, it was so stacked that the bottom crumbled and fell apart. I also got to try their black berry cheese cake and it was so good. It was a bit heavy so it was good to eat in small servings and balanced with something savory.

(See: "waiting walk" below) From out of town to get a pizza option for lunch. This place hits the mark! PARKING. There is ample parking in the lot outside the store. It's Idyllwild. If you're a visitor, chances are, you're walking there. Walk if you can! Super easy to get to plus bonus "waiting walk" SEATING. There are plenty of indoor tables for small and large parties. If you're here in good weather, there is no outdoor seating, but find a park table somewhere. SERVICE Wonderful service this morning. We mentioned that we'd walk while waiting for the pizza & calzone, and they kept the pizza hot on the oven if we were back a little later. FOOD I was a little disappointed that there wasn't any vegan cheese options. It's a salty add-on that might not be exactly dairy style, but it does give me the impression of pizza-experience. Vegan modification = I got the VEGGIE CALZONE instead without cheese. Calzone is tricky, because it always steams a little inside. This one is good. I think I'd get the veggie panini next time. The outside was soft like a bread. Not in a bad way. CALZONE TOMATO SAUCE was excellent. Gluten Free = My wife got a gluten free Greek pizza. She loved it and remarked that the gluten free dough and cook was really good. Neither gummy nor "dry as a cracker" (If you're GF, you know what that means) Veggies Calzone also comes with a simple green salad side. Oil & vinegar dressing. Fresh and simple. VISITING FROM OUT OF TOWN IN NICE WEATHER? "WAITING WALK" or "WALK IT OFF" along Strawberry Creek If you're from out of town, you may have seen the short section of Strawberry Creek from town to Idyllwild Park. If not head down to the creek and TURN RIGHT (14 minute out/back) along down the path. If you have walked it before, TURN LEFT and walk up the creek path. The interior was right out of the early 90s, but in a charming way. The stacked pizza oven was legit, it whipped out perfect pizzas with limited wait time!

Had pre-hike breakfast at the Red Kettle. Due to Covid 19 restrictions we called ahead to place our order so we were not waiting on line too long. The staff were friendly and funny. Added tea to my order at the last minute and they we so awesome in accommodating considering the line that had started to form (socially distanced line). We had the breakfast burrito which included Scrambled eggs, bacon, hash brown potatoes and cheddar cheese rolled in a warm flour tortilla and served with salsa and sour cream on the side Also had fresh squeezed OJ and black tea. so the stickers remain... the response sent to me from the red kettle. NOT EVEN AN "I'M SORRY IT OFFENDED YOU AND YOUR FAMILY" for shame red kettle! two thumbs down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello Jonpaul, I was made aware of your disapproval of the stickers. I am going to have to back my staff on this one. You are blowing this far out of proportion. If you feel that strongly about the stickers that a group of Girl Scouts placed on about 30 Tapatio bottles along with about 10 ketchup bottles, then contact the Long Beach chapter that was here in the last few days. This has nothing to do with race in any way. I am sorry you took it that way but this was a large group of kids being kids. Keep in mind most of the scouts were of a Hispanic background. Yesterday, during a two day road trip my husband and I embarked on. There were two choices for breakfast that we pondered. Red Kettle won thanks to my gentlemanly partner who kindly gave up his choice. No matter how much I craved some bacon and eggs, there was some sort of obsessive desire for some chili and corn bread. I had to have it all so we ordered alot for a couple. My husband ordered one of the omelettes which was fresh, huge and delicious. I ordered the chili and cornbread and we shared....YUM!! 4 STARS as the wait...was worth the wait....a little slow but it was so good that we were willing to humble ourselves. Good food, terrible, terrible rude waitresses. I've been going there to eat since I was like 5, I'm 20 now that's 15 years. Every time I go in with my boyfriend or family all the younger blondes working there give me the most disgusting looks and give worst attitude, and I'm the wrong one to give attitude towards. Half the time I don't even eat my food because I always think they are going to spit in it. I'm a very nice person too, and a paying customer who always tips AT LEAST 20%. I would never go there ever again you can pay me $300, I'd rather cut my own tongue out. I can make my own damn breakfast without the bitchy attitudes and ugly faces made at me. read more

I had the best breakfast ever today on my birthday. The staff was the best. Those girls are so full of life and energy. Good job to the new young owners that inherited a mess form the old ones especially that mean Red Head and her stupid racist husband. waited 45 mins for our meal, watched several couples that came in after us be served first. Gave up and walk out after a party of 8 was served their meal after being there less the half the time we waited. First and last time going there. left them a message and never heard back. read more
