Eggs Benedict (also came with the side, hashbrowns, but they were too big to fit on the plate)

The ambience is very much like a diner, but super friendly. Service was amazing and the recommendations that our waitress gave us were all spot on! Kids 1 egg breakfast: we got the scrambled eggs for this and it came out as a huge portion. More like three scrambled eggs. Prepared well, not very salty. Probably could've used a little extra salt. But I appreciated being able to do it to taste. Also comes w choice of bacon or sausage, and then choice of either fruit or potato item, and also a choice of bread item. Amazing value 5/5 The hollandaise on the Benedict was to die for her. I felt like the hashbrowns had a little bit of like a bacon fat type of taste to them? Maybe other people like them they were very crispy, but I didn't like something about the agent the hashbrowns were cooked in. One of the best pancakes (ordered as a side) that I've ever eaten in my life. The biscuit was also decent but doesn't come out hot. It's very fluffy. Not like a homestyle/Super buttery type of biscuit.

The food here could use a little more flavor, but they are open on days when other businesses are closed, and the staff are very very nice! The service was great and the prices here (compared to other restaurants in the area) are also great.

Red Kettle was a staple for my Idyllwild trips growing up, and I was thrilled to bring my best friend during her first visit. It's just as cozy as I remember! Honestly I think this trip was blessed because I magically got a parking spot out front and despite expecting that we would have to wait, we were seated right away. It was poppin so it took almost 30 minutes for the food to come out but it was delicious and the coffee is good. It's right in the heart of town so there's plenty to explore afterwards. They don't take reservations and it's very popular, but definitely worth it.

RED KETTLE @ IDYLLWILD Parking is limited to street parking only, but there are plenty of spots around the small town. It's free and super easy to find. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday afternoon and found parking within minutes. My boyfriend has been coming to The Red Kettle for the past two years every time he visits this town, so I was really excited to finally try it. When we arrived, there was already a line out the door with people waiting. We put our names down and waited about 20 minutes, which went by pretty quickly. Once we were seated, we got our menus, and the girl who took our order was incredibly sweet. I loved her energy and the recommendations she gave. We ordered a hot chocolate to start, and it was amazing, definitely on the sweeter side and piled with whipped cream, so if you have a sweet tooth, you'll love it. My boyfriend also got a black coffee, which comes with unlimited refills. The staff walks around offering more, so you never run out. For food, my boyfriend got the Junkyard Omelette, and I ordered the French toast with bacon. We also shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy. The food took about 30 minutes to come out, which is understandable since it was packed. Just keep in mind that weekends get super busy. The restaurant is open from 7 AM to 2 PM daily, so if you're visiting, try to come before noon so you don't risk getting turned away near closing time. Now the food, honestly incredible. I'm not even a big biscuits person, but their biscuits and gravy were to die for. They were savory, soft, and had the perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture. I highly recommend getting them. You can choose between a half-order or full order. For a group of 2-3 people, the half-order is perfect, but the full order is great if you're really hungry. My French toast was delicious, and although my bacon came out a little burnt at first, they remade it super quickly. The eggs were great too. My boyfriend's omelette came with crispy hashbrowns that were honestly so good. It all tasted fresh, hearty, and very home-cooked, like something you'd make with your family. I loved the classic diner vibe and the cozy ambiance. Overall, I would definitely come back to The Red Kettle if I'm ever in Idyllwild again. The experience was great, the service was amazing, and the food was absolutely worth the wait.

Red kettle is a must go brunch spot when visiting Idyllwild. Pros: being the only brunch spot in Idyllwild the line can get very long. This could be a really good thing because the food is really good, but this could also be a bad thing because you might be waiting a long time. I arrived in the late morning and was able to get seated within 20 minutes for a table of two. The food here is really good. I ordered the junkyards omelette and it was very filling, had a side of hashbrowns and toast and the flavor was great. My girlfriend ordered the French toast combo which came with two eggs and her choice of sausage or bacon she chose bacon. I also ordered a coffee and she ordered a hot chocolate. Both were really good and coffees had a free refill. There are two bathrooms within the inside and they were very clean. Cons: first con would be the long wait times depending on what time you show and when you visit during the year. Because it gets very busy, service could be slow for me. The service was good, but the food came out a little longer than it should have. I didn't mind because I didn't have any anywhere else to go so that was fine with me, but just keep in mind, you could be waiting a while. Verdict: before this time I came to red kettle at least twice before every time that I visited Idlewild and I will continue visiting because it's very good food. I always have a good time there and it's really the only spot to get brunch and not a wild, I would recommend this to anybody visiting.

My husband wanted to surprise me and take me somewhere new for my birthday. We don't live close by but I want to see some snow. The drive up there was beautiful even though I am afraid of heights. It's cute little diner type of place with a lot of posters. Friendly people, since I am allergic to eggs I have to go to places that servers breakfast and lunch which they do. They menu look great I was excited to get the usual for me is either patty melt or Reuben . The service was awesome, outstanding coffee. Unfortunately the rest of our food was NOT outstanding. They burned my bread so bad that all I could taste was burned bread and not the rest of my Reuben sandwich! Normally I would send it back but they were so nice that I didn't have the heart to do it. My husband ordered breakfast burrito and it was nothing to brag about. I would go back for the coffee and friendly people.

The staff here couldn't be friendlier--seriously, they're hustling nonstop but still manage to make you feel welcome. The place was packed with locals, which pretty much guarantees it's the spot to be. It's got that cool, old-school diner vibe with tons of tables and counter space, plus outdoor seating if you want to soak up the sunshine. And the food? So good. We ordered the muffin sandwich with hash browns, yummy! Everything came out exactly how we ordered it--hot, tasty, and totally hit the spot.

This little breakfast spot was small but completely packed--and honestly, that just proved how good it is. Even with every table full, the customer service never missed a beat. Our hostess and our server were both incredibly attentive, kind, and on top of everything. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and their amazing service made our day trip to Idyllwild even more special. Definitely a place worth the wait!

This is as good of a breakfast as you'll get! Tourist towns can be tough but this place is great. The staff is beyond friendly. They're enough to get me to return. The Griddled Potato Scramble is delicious and HUGE. The omelet was great as well, but I can't speak to it because my partner devoured it before I could try it. That speaks for itself, I think. Get the biscuit. It's fluffy and perfect. Just do it. Also, go early. Like, as soon as they open. Otherwise, you're going to be waiting a while.

Warm and cozy family-feel restaurant in town. The place is tiny and the line is long! Put your name down and make sure someone from your party is present waiting because if they call your party and you're not there...your seat will be taken due to the long lines! . They are very accommodating though and so nice. The boss lady Tammy is super sweet and will try her best to ensure you are taken care of . The food is delish. Hash browns are perfect, crispy on the outside and butter soft inside. The pancakes are soooo good you don't even need syrup! We also got French toast...they give you a good amount not just 2 pieces of bread like some of the other places. For dessert we had apple pie à la mode. So good! My kids also tried the wagyu Benedict, the chicken fried steak, and the brisket. I am assuming it was all good because they cleaned their plates. Love the art pieces on the wall...from local artists to the hilarious sarcastic sayings.Had to dock a star because the wait time for food is long even though they do their best with all the craziness. And one of the waitresses had a little attitude when we accidentally bumped into her because the place was crowded and despite giving her an apology.

Meal portions are very large here. Everything was just every basic so I can't say I highly recommend this place. Although it is very popular. The soups are flavorful and they give you plenty of that and salad. Staffs are wonderful as most places here in Idyllwild.. They offer all the traditional breakfast items and lunch items. A very basic American diner. I think a lot of people like this place because it is like having homemade breakfast. I think it was just alright for me and I would only come here if it is my only option. read more

Great service. Went here on a Saturday morning and was seated right away even though it was busy. Coffee was constantly being refilled and our server was super friendly and personable. Busy Saturday morning we were seated quickly out of sheer luck since we sat inside and most people waited for outside. I don't know if they were covid compliant because everyone sat together like sardines but at the same time everyone inside seemed to respect space between tables. Food was delicious but took a while to come out and then a longer while to pay. Plain coffee was good but the latte came from a machine and was too sweet. Overall good experience so will try again. read more

We came in on a busy Sunday around noon, servers seemed rude (more than one). I ordered a Malibu chicken sandwich with fries and my bf ordered a Ruben sandwich with coleslaw. My sandwich was good, a little bland but tasted good nonetheless. My bf enjoyed his Ruben although it was a bit dry for him so he had to ask for extra dressing. He really liked the coleslaw. All in all the food was decent but the service could use some work and the prices are a little high for the kind of service you're receiving. read more

Picture doesn't do it justice.. ate here a couple months back and ordered the French Dip, the meat was GREEN. Called and let them know, did I want a replacement? Hell no. No apology no anything. A friend of mine also ordered the corn beef and hash and the corn beef was pretty much raw and soggy! Gross! Gave it another try and this time, my three year old got really bad food poisoning, he ate the kid cheeseburgers. My stomach was off for the rest of the day. Will never try this place ever again!. 0 stars if I could! Might I add, their bathroom is right by the kitchen and I snuck a look in the kitchen and could have sworn I saw the guy in the back using a cutting board on a trash can. read more

We stopped in early in the morning for breakfast. We enjoyed the outside patio and the waitress was very nice. The food was disappointing though. I ordered a chili omelette and it was a literal bowl of Luke warm chili with a scrambled egg on the bottom. I asked for my hash browns crispy and they came burnt and tasted of burnt oil. My boyfriend ordered the ranch breakfast and the whole plate was covered in cheese sauce. Neither of us are our food. The 2 stars are for the service and atmosphere. read more

Food and service is excellent and worth the drive. The Bacon is off the charts delicious. I know it sounds odd but my son and I went there for breakfast as we do a couple times a year and the bacon was so good we ordered an extra order of it. read more

Red Kettle is a cute little dinner located in the city center of Idyllwild. You'll experience the normal breakfast rush if you are trying to enjoy breakfast on the weekend. We waited roughly 25 minutes before being seated on a Sunday morning. The inside isnt the biggest, so it gets a bit loud and cozy inside. The food is your basic breakfast dishes priced at a decent price. For the amount of people, our food came pretty quick. I had ordered the waffle breakfast, and my waffle came out nice and crunchy like I like it! The service was friendly, and we were in and out within an hour. For 7 of us, our bill was under $80. I'd recommend Red Kettle for breakfast if you're looking for a spot in Idyllwild! read more

My husband and I visited Idyllwild over the last couple days and picked the Red Kettle for their many breakfast options... we were not disappointed! Even though we didn't arrive until after the "griddle" options weren't being served anymore (11:00 a.m. on weekdays), we still got to enjoy a delicious breakfast. We each had a breakfast burrito and split a serving of the biscuits and gravy. It all tasted great, came quickly and came hot. Additionally, I had a separate experience with the staff member (unsure of her title or exact role with Red Kettle) named Annie... she went above and beyond for me when my 5 month old had a "blow out" while we were eating our breakfast. I had gotten up to take him to the bathroom to change his diaper and outfit to find out their restrooms were too small to be equipped with a changing station. Annie and I tackled the ultimate diaper and outfit change without any sort of table. Her extra hands made it a much easier task than if I would have had to change him out in the car. My wife and I stopped by to get lunch. We got the last two seats at the end of the bar. All the servers who we interacted with were beyond great. Also, our food was really good too! We ordered a patty melt and an order of onion rings. They were superb! We will definitely be back! read more

Amazing little gem in the heart of Idyllwild! I had the eggs Benedict and it was literally the best I've ever had. There is something about their hash browns that will blow your mind and although they don't serve hard alcohol, make sure you try their sake based Bloody Mary..it was incredible! Nice little place to have a hot breakfast, after spending a cold night at Idyllwild, gives a outdoorsy vibe. The restaurant was a bit too crowded, especially felt in such a cramp seating arrangement, with average service. The Grilled Potatoes Scramble was good and fairly cooked, but not as seasoned as other places. The coffee was just a little above room temperature; could have been warmer, the meal was warmer than the coffee. Like mentioned, nice little restaurant. read more

Old school breakfast and brunch place. Outside seating is dog friendly. Human friendly as well. Great place to bring the family for a meal that feels like you cooked it at home, only without the dishes to clean or time to cook. read more

I very much liked this cute little spot. They service is nice and the food is delicious. Our table & chairs were sanitized before we sit down, the meal came out fast, coffee was strong, the service was super kind to our two dogs (oh yea they have a patio, so you can bring maximum of 2 dogs with you). I got the egg Benedict with ham & Mayo. It came with a side of slices of cantaloupe, honeydew melon, watermelon and pineapple - I was super surprised how fresh they were! I can only recommend this place, I know I will be back there for sure. read more

The breakfast sausage links and mimosas are very good. The other food (potatoes, eggs, waffle) are bland had to add condiments. Service is NOT friendly they are to busy to be bothered. When customers walk in, they walk fast away and say sit anywhere. Overall, it's just ok. read more

My girlfriend and I came here for brunch and they don't have a lot of options. I understand you're only open for a limited time but there's no need to cut off regular breakfast items that have easy prep and cleanup. I got the corn beef hash even though it wasn't homemade and came straight from a can, It was still good. The whole vibe of the restaurant was comforting, and it smelled amazing. I would come back here for sure. read more

Long Wait For Food,Food Was Cold ! Arrived Sunday Morning for Breakfast. No Wait for our table which was good.Kathy our Chatty waitress was a bit overbearing With a Strong personality. Visited twice this past weekend for brunch. With a party of seven in a small spot in a small town we expected a wait. On our second visit we were seated immediately and the first time we only waited a short time. The folks running this place are quick and friendly. They use a handheld ordering system which made everything super efficient. Coffees and waters were constantly refilled. Food was also excellent. We decided to return on the second day bc the odds of not being disappointed by comparison were low. Beyond exceeded my expectations for the quality of the food, friendliness with out of towners, and efficiency. Definitely recommend! read more

My husband and I finally tried the chicken fried steak which I've been hearing is great. It came with 2 big pieces of sourdough, scrambled eggs, hashed browns, and a piece of chicken fried steak with gravy. First of all, it was delicious. The bread with strawberry jelly, the hash towns, the eggs, and the steak were great. We split the meal because we didn't want to stuff ourselves and want to try the other food places in town such as Atomic Cow Creamery Pastrami sandwich for lunch, but it was enough food for both of us for breakfast and tided us over till lunch. read more

A nice breakfast with attentive wait staff. We had breakfast here at 9:30 on a Saturday morning and were seated immediately. It was a hearty breakfast. I had chicken fried steak and eggs with cottage fries and my wife had the green Chile and Jack omelet. We both enjoyed the meal. The cottage fries are chunks of potato that seem to be fried. Both were filling. The cook initially messed up my wife's omelet but they quickly fixed it. Parking was not a problem even though the Red Kettle was in the heart of the shopping my district in Idyllwild. Pricing was very reasonable for the diner fare we had. I would return again. read more

I'm torn writing this review, because we had one incredible entree and one very, very average entree. We stopped in while visiting Idyllwild for my birthday. They were able to seat us quickly, although I did call to try and make a reservation as Yelp said they accept reservations, but alas, they do not. This place is small, and every table was full on a Sunday morning. So, service was definitely slow. We were only able to get someone to refill our coffee (and mimosa) once, after I flagged someone down like a crazy person. I care way more about the food, though. I ordered eggs benedict, my boyfriend ordered the chili cheese omelette. I knew as soon as they put the eggs benedict down in front of me, that I had made a mistake. The hollandaise was a very muted yellow and extremely runny - too much butter and not enough egg yolk. I cut into the poached egg and was so disappointed. They weren't poached long enough, while the yolk was runny, unfortunately the egg whites were still extremely runny too. Super busy day at the Red Kettle. Yes, I waited a bit for my food and yes my omelette was missing mushrooms and onions; however, it tasted amazing. Established in 1920.

The Red Kettle was started in 1920 as the Coffee Cup and later changed to Jans Red Kettle in 1979. When Jan retired it was again changed to the Red Kettle in January 2007. Sever famous people have made the Red Kettle a must stop over the years such as Clark Gable, Elvis, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Jan Michael Vincent, David Horowitz, Fritz Colman, Dolly Parton, Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston just to name a few.

Meet the Business Owner: Bruce R.

Bruce Ross has been a part-time resident of Idyllwild for over 40 years. His love of nature, rock climbing and the Red Kettle kept him coming back. When he heard that The Red Kettle was for sale, he jumped at the chance to own his favorite restaurant. His mascot, Perry, the Peregrine Falcon, is now keeping watch over Ernie, the world famous Red Kettle! Come and see us soon!

If you feel that strongly about the stickers that a group of Girl Scouts placed on about 30 Tapatio bottles along with about 10 ketchup bottles, then contact the Long Beach chapter that was here in the last few days. Yesterday, during a two day road trip my husband and I embarked on. There were two choices for breakfast that we pondered. Red Kettle won thanks to my gentlemanly partner who kindly gave up his choice. No matter how much I craved some bacon and eggs, there was some sort of obsessive desire for some chili and corn bread. I had to have it all so we ordered alot for a couple. My husband ordered one of the omelettes which was fresh, huge and delicious. I ordered the chili and cornbread and we shared....YUM!! 4 STARS as the wait...was worth the wait....a little slow but it was so good that we were willing to humble ourselves. Good food, terrible, terrible rude waitresses. I've been going there to eat since I was like 5, I'm 20 now that's 15 years. Every time I go in with my boyfriend or family all the younger blondes working there give me the most disgusting looks and give worst attitude, and I'm the wrong one to give attitude towards. Half the time I don't even eat my food because I always think they are going to spit in it. I'm a very nice person too, and a paying customer who always tips AT LEAST 20%. I would never go there ever again you can pay me $300, I'd rather cut my own tongue out. I can make my own damn breakfast without the bitchy attitudes and ugly faces made at me. read more

I had the best breakfast ever today on my birthday. The staff was the best. Those girls are so full of life and energy. Good job to the new young owners that inherited a mess form the old ones especially that mean Red Head and her stupid racist husband. waited 45 mins for our meal, watched several couples that came in after us be served first. Gave up and walk out after a party of 8 was served their meal after being there less the half the time we waited. First and last time going there. left them a message and never heard back. read more
